We bought this unit about 1 month ago... We had nothing but problems! The system is very very unstable and would shut down frequently... They have an ipad App that you use to pick  songs, but the App SUCKS... its lagging, and shuts down and freezes... There seems to be a lot of bugs and errors with this software and they can't do anything about it either. I wish I bought a traditional Karaoke system. We are very disappointed with this product. (Also, some song's quality isn't good)
Review Source:I posted this review on Amazon but shortly after they took their product from Amazon. Â So here's my honest review in
I bought HDK BOX in the store in Rowland Hts, CA.
In terms of Pro, this unit is light, has very simple connection, you can connect internet through ethernet jack or through usb wifi card. It has HDMI, RCA jacks, two microphone jacks, a nice remote(with many functions), you can download a free app to iPad or iPhone and use that as a remote. The ipad version of the remote has a nice interface that allows you to see your playlist, and good layout for you to pick songs fast. You can literally pick 100 songs within 5 minutes with ipad app. The app also has a feature that allows you to request new songs if you don't see them already. So if the device work as it claims, it's actually a very good unit with great features.
However, here comes all the cons:
*Start with the unit, it frequently shutdown by itself, or resets itself at the middle of the song
*The processor seems to be very weak, remote often has a very long delay of over 10 seconds. Especially if you try to use it right after a new song is playing.
*The unit requires internet to use, you cannot download the songs first and play it later without internet connection to the unit
*The microphone input is almost unusable, this is understandable because most people who sings will have their own amplify, however, I am mentioning this because for people who think this is portable, think again because the microphone input has a lot of distortion. If you try to use the microphone inputs and hook up the speakers through the RCA or HDMI, no matter how good your stereo system is, it's got too much distortion and not enough watts to boost the microphone volume.
*The karaoke library consist of many songs that has the "Singing mode" and "Original Singer Mode" reversed, so you will need to switch back and forth often
*The Karaoke library consist of some songs that has "Tudou" watermark on there so I doubt if this is really copyrighted as it claims
*Some songs just stops at the half of the song
*Some songs has very bad resolution (Like bad vcd at 320 x 240 resolution)
So here comes the part that disappoint me the most. I bought the unit in store because I want to be able to return it when something is wrong with the unit(Without the shipping). When I purchased the unit, the clerk told me that if there's anything wrong with the unit, I can return or exchange within 15 days. So within a week, I try to return the unit, the clerk said I have to pay 20% restocking fee + every song I have downloaded. In my case, this 1 week period they claimed that I have downloaded 600 songs. So I have to pay a total of $120+ if I choose to return it. And there's some fine print on the service contract that I have signed. It says something like if you downloaded more than 15 songs, you have to pay for either 20% of the restocking fee or the downloaded songs, whichever is greater. I don't know how they can claim that I have to pay for both the 20% plus the 600 songs I have download.
I don't like to be lied to so I just told him to bill me and refund back my credit. Still, the guy refused to do so and was keep trying to convince me to keep the unit. And a few days later he denied that the machine resets itself or shut off itself. Just want people to be aware of this if you still decide to get this unit. I have submitted a dispute on my credit card and hopefully credit card company will take my side.
When I was in the store, the demo setup was hooked up to a amplifier and an ipad. Most songs played were already downloaded. So most likely the causing of resets/shutoffs are caused by downloading in combination with singing, and the use of the remote, etc...
If you go to their website, they have similar type of claim. On their product page they have this banner that says 100% guaranteed, 15 days trial+return guaranteed, and 0% risk, please click here. If you click to that fine print page, you are going to find that clause where if you download more than 15 songs, you will have to pay for those.
I end up buying a traditional Karaoke device that has 2gb+2gb of songs and is much happier now.
