I went there for my birthday. Service was friendly, atmosphere was good. It was rather small, we can count 30 or so seating for the whole place. I had Lamb Kebob and my wife ordered Lamb Shank. I asked for medium, and I got a medium (believe it or not, it's not that easy). I highly recommend it for dinner date anytime.

The spicy meat is good, but kafta is not. Great eggplant dip! Worth a try!

I have been wanting to check this place out because I love Turkish cuisine! This place is fairly small and simple inside. The servers were nice and helpful. I tried the adana, kafta and the iskander. I also tried two sides: eggplant salad and shepherd salad. The sides came out right away. They were both tasty but the shepherd salad was really good! I was not a fan of the adana or the kafta. The adana has a nice spice but after a few bites all I could taste was the char on the meat. The kafta was very dry and almost cold. The iskander was okay, probably my favorite of the three meats I had. Next time I'm in the mood for Turkish I will be going back to Bosphorus.

Not really much of a fan of this place. Came in during a Friday lunch, probably one the 2nd or 3rd table in the restaurant and it took an awful long time to receive lukewarm food.

I ordered a gyro platter with fries and added yogurt sauce. The yogurt sauce was a $1 extra and it was extremely THICK. I don't think you can really mess up a gyro platter, but they sure did. Its probably was the wrong dish to order. Although I did enjoy their pilaf, better if it was served hot.

Disappointing!

I went to Atilla's for a late lunch around 2:30 on a Thursday. My friend and I were hoping to have the lunch special that ended at 3pm. Our server was so slow to take our actual order that it was 3 on the dot when we finally ordered.

I was here one other time in the evening and had a completely different experience. On that evening, the server was fast, polite and knowledgeable. We apparently were lucky that night. We had lamb and keftas that were delicious. There was music playing and a nice energy in the place.

I suggested Attillas for lunch today based on my past experience. Apparently, I made a poor choice. There was a TV on over the bar that was very loud....blasting news. Our service was extremely slow. Our server was not personable...only said the minimum amount of words. A different man brought our appetizer (the man watching TV at the bar), slapped it down and said "its hot" and walked away.

I ordered the lamb as I remember it was so delicious the last time- cooked perfectly. This time, it was so well done it was hard to chew. The vegetables that accompanied the lamb were cold and not fully cooked. It took 25 minutes for our food to arrive after ordering. The person I was dining with had a Caesar salad. There were no croutons nor anchovies nor did the dressing seem to be very Caesar-like.

After my first visit, I told many people how wonderful the place was. Now, I refuse to go back.

Consistency is a definite issue.
Service is another issue.

There are other restaurants in Mills50 that have attentive service and quality products and good prices, so there is no need for me to return.

Had some really nice grilled meats, one style of meatball was spicy. The chicken and steak kebabs had a great grilled flavor. I had to order some tzatiki sauce to dip the meats in.

Appetizer was a Turkish egg roll which we dipped in a yogurt sauce.

The Turkish american idol was on the TV it was hilarious and made me very uncomfortable.

In the Mills50 district area, the Asian restaurants are great but what about other cuisines? Located on Mills Ave, Atilla's Steak & Salad features sandwiches, salads, steaks, pizza and Turkish cuisine. I have past it many times but it never stood out to me. Since it is located close to work, it was a good opportunity to try this restaurant out. Outdoor seating is available and the dining room itself isn't very big. What was big, was the friendly service. The servers were very pleasant, prompt and helpful with the menu.

The decor inside was very clean looking, a few decorations here and there on the wall but nothing exciting. The silence in the restaurant was very apparent, some background music would have been appreciated. As I had mentioned before, there was pizza listed on the menu but only cheese or Mediterranean. Not much options as far as that goes. That's ok, I didn't come here for the pizza instead I wanted to see how good this "Turkish cuisine" is. The Adana Kebab and the Kofte stuck out to me. The Adana Kebab is the spicy meatloaf. Spicy, they say? Let's see about that. Whichever dish shall I choose? The options, the options... Well, luckily they have a mix and match option which definitely works for me! The spicy meatloaf it is and the kofte (grilled meatballs). The Turkish entrees come with your choice of a side item (side salad, shepherd salad, eggplant dip salad, spinach dip salad, potato salad, black-eye bean salad, french fries, mashed potato). That's quite a bit of side items there.

The eggplant dip salad sounded good. I automatically thought it was going to be baba ganoush. Baba ganoush is a wonderful eggplant dip dish that had cooked eggplant mashed with olive oil and seasonings. It's very similar to hummus but made with eggplant instead. This eggplant dip salad (Patlican Ezme) was more yogurt based. It wasn't bad at all, just definitely not what I expected. They ought to call it a yogurt dip. The eggplant flavor didn't come through as much as I had hoped. The two little pitas were cute though. The spinach dip salad (Ispanak Ezme) was yogurt based as well. At least the spinach flavor was more prevalent. I definitely could have used more garlic as well. Both dishes are served cold and I recommend you save some of the dip for the actual entree.

It didn't take long before my meal arrived, it smelled amazing! I'm ready to chow down! The Kofte (grilled meatballs) typically have herbs and other various seasonings mixed in with the meat. It was bland for me. The texture wasn't overdone but the flavor was lacking. The spicy meatloaf was actually spicy. You could see the red pepper flakes in it, and it wasn't too spicy. The heat was a good amount that you could feel it but didn't have the sweating or the runny nose. I really should have just ordered the Adana Kebab. The grilled peppers and tomatoes were a tasty addiction. The red onions can be a bit strong for some but if you love onions then you'll definitely enjoy these. Raw onions with dill, parsley and some other spices added some more textures to the dish. The bulgur pilav is a pilaf dish similar to couscous/quinoa. It's got a little bit of a firm yet fluffy texture. And beneath all the meat is my pita bread. Oh yeah, about that...

All in all, I enjoyed my meal and left full. I didn't even get a chance to order any dessert. Aside from the bland meatballs, I'll be back here. Who knew this little spot would have been so good? Check this place out and remember to save your dip for the meat.

Can I give this place less than one star? Without a doubt, the most abysmal service I've ever experienced. The service staff outnumbered the patrons, and they still managed to screw up virtually every possible thing. Honestly, to list every thing they messed up, service wise, would be a four page review.

Part of the food for our party came out twenty minutes before the rest, and they informed one of our party that they were out of what he ordered...as they were delivering the rest of the table's dinners.

The food, once it all arrived, was mediocre at best, and the worst of it was terrible. Cold, under seasoned, and overcooked. We were starving by the time they actually managed to put dinner on the table, and not a single person was able to choke down their entire meal. We mostly tried to fill up on the pita.

The people we were dining with are all restaurant people, and if you give us a beer or two, we're more than happy to converse amongst ourselves and have a good time and not stress over service glitches. This was so bad that we were in a state of absolute disbelief. We laughed about it for weeks.

This shall forever more be the standard to which all terrible service is judged.

I love this place. I'm not from Florida and I couldn't find a great middle eastern / Mediterranean restaurant that I liked (I've been to the over priced one on Park Ave). This place is authentic, quaint and not touristy. I personally suggest trying the Iskander combo, the small is a Huge portion, especially for the modest price. You also get a side dish and I definitely recommend the Spanish dip salad. Also on Saturday they have a belly dancer now - personally I go for the awsome food - but it was good entertainment. Overall, check this place out, great food and value!

Tried to return to Steak & Salad for dinner last night, as I had not been there in quite a while. The place is small and they were fairly busy, but there were two open tables, so we took one. My husband and I sat there for 20 minutes with no drinks and no menus while the two servers brought out other people's meals, drank their drinks, watched TV behind the bar, and basically ignored us, even after I made eye contact with them several times. We walked out without ever receiving a menu or even water. I won't be returning.

Extremely disappointed.. Wish I had gone 6 months ago when the reviews were good! But everything tasted old and prepackaged. The Bacardi and red wine tasted like it has been sitting there for months with out a cover. My friend ordered a salmon, took two bites and wanted to throw up (when I looked, it looked like it had gone bad when it was frozen) and my Adana was not fully cooked and was raw in the middle. The server/bartender was all right, nothing special. But we asked to get rid of the salmon and they removed it off the check without question but no one ever asked how was it. Bizarre, was there a recent management change?!

Now named with the Addition Attila's, it's a quaint spot but not much to it. There are several tables and a small bar. The menu is good and also carries things for those picky folks you really do not want to join you but often do. There is NOT, however, a kid's menu. Those adults are pretty sneaky. We managed to hit it up on Saturday night and had the added bonus of belly dancers. It's not my style but my daughter was mesmerized. They dance twice a week, but I honestly couldn't remember what the next night was. So if you hit the right time you get a show and some Turkish music. Just add a hookah. There are a few outdoor seats as well in case the inside gets crowded. As for the food. I didn't catch the name of what I got because it was recommended by the server. It was a thin sliced meat covered in tomato sauce over pits. We also got a small appetizer of hummus, who doesn't like that? The pitas were very small (about the size of a ritz) from the menu I remembered seeing an additional order of pita being a few dollars so it wasn't that serious. My wife devoured a beef wrapped spicy meatball covered in a similar tomato sauce. I must admit, it had some kick but not much for the seasoned spicy veteran. The food was reasonable and authentic as one can get without a plane ticket and a 10 hour bus ride.

Overall, not overly expensive and good with live entertainment. There is not a kids menu but they do have chicken kabobs. So bring your kiddos with caution.

Underwhelming meal and service. Appetizers appeared to be made from canned foods and pita bread was clearly the pre-packaged kind. Lentil soup was bland. Kabob was tender and well seasoned and reason this place got two stars.

Let me start by saying my only real credential for judging this restaurant is that I adore Middle Eastern & Mediterranean food! My introduction to these cuisines began in the early 70s in Chicago's Greek town when I found myself working in close proximity to these restaurants whose food was so different from what I had been raised with. This is where I first heard the exclamation "Opa!" when the flaming Saganaki cheese appetizer was lit. Where I first discovered the delights of papery phyllo, learned to love lamb and eggplant; gyros and stuffed grape leaves; wonderful shrimp kebabs and fish grilled simply with olive oil, lemon, and oregano; Baklava and the delectable Galaktoboureko which, to this day, remains one of my favorite desserts! Since then, I've delved further into similar cuisines: Turkish, Lebanese, and Persian. And, when done well, their flavor profiles still excite my palate.

Having said that, what I found here at the recently renamed "Attila's" Steak & Salad failed to impress me. What we had: Borek (a type of pastry stuffed with feta cheese & parsley), Eggplant Salad (which was actually more yogurt than anything else), and Stuffed Grape Leaves for appetizers. Our entrees consisted of Kabob plates with lamb, chicken, beef, and some of the spicy meatloaf, accompanied by bulgur and a side of black-eyed-pea salad. The appetizers were all extremely acidic -- whoever is in the kitchen apparently has too heavy a hand with the vinegar. And the mini-pitas which accompanied the appetizers were straight out of a package. For the kabobs, the meat was not cut uniformly, so the larger pieces were fairly juicy while the smaller ones were dry & overcooked. Actually the adana might have fared the best because it was kind of a grilled spicy meatloaf. Nothing was terrible enough to be inedible, but neither was anything outstanding.

Ambiance: not much to speak of. The interior is basically generic. There are a few Turkish rugs on the wall, but no music or other cultural cues. We were a large group, seated inside. But as we left, I was a bit envious of the couples dining on the outdoor patio on such a lovely spring evening. There were colorful awnings overhead and photographs of Turkish landmarks hanging outdoors. We did notice a sign on the door advertising belly dancers who would be performing a couple of nights in early May. Perhaps with the addition of the dancers, one could possibly imagine oneself to be dining in some place more exotic than Mills Avenue in Orlando.

Service: Our group of about 16 or so was assigned two servers who did a nice job, considering the number of people.

Price range: relatively inexpensive. As we were eating, one of my Dad's favorite old saws, "You get what you pay for," kept ringing through my head. Even though prices are steeper, I think I'll stick with Anatolia & Bosphorus for Turkish, my dear friend Tolu's kitchen for Persian, and Cedar's, Greek Corner, and Greek Flame Taverna for the rest!

After reading such great review for this resto, I was happily counting the hours until i meet my friends to partake on such delicious Turkish meal.

Upon arriving I first notice the patio with a beautiful artistic cement flooring of swatch paints. Beautiful photographs of Istanbul and different monuments of turkey.

Unfortunately the patio decor is the only spot that really foretold you are entering a cultural establishment.

The dining room is no different than any other small eateries, as a matter of fact it lacks an identity. Example most Asian Resto are distinctive in their decor.

Another lack of cultural identity is the menu, I expected to see more Turkish dishes outside of the kbobs, and less of an American menu of Pizza etc...

The execution of the dishes was totally lacking. I am pretty sure the chef found a great deal on vinegar from walmart, thus had an incentive to use every bit of it.

We ordered Borek, Eggplant Salad, Stuffed Grape Leaves for appetizers
they were so acidic I had to have 3 other people try them to make sure it wasn't my palette that was off for the night.

My side dish was the spinach salad, I've yet to find the spinach, this dish should be rename as Tahini not a salad, again the bargain vinegar was use.

Next came the Eggplant salad. I have to tell you the little chunks of eggplants were trying to swim away from the vinegar bath and unfortunately I couldn't save them. I had to let them drown in the acidic bath poor eggplants :(

The only redeeming value for me was the sirloin kbob it was seasoned to perfection but unfortunately most of it was a bit dry.

The bulgur sides tasted like it was cooked days prior and a can of tomatoes was dump on them and stirred before serving.

Service was great 2 waitstaff for our table of 16, very nice and efficient.

Pros
Kbob are seasoned well
Spicy meatball perfect seasoning
Price are reasonable
Intimate spot

Cons
Vinegary appetizers
not enough Turkish offerings
Too much American fare

In other for me to return the menu will need to be adjusted and the cook should be banned from ever using vinegar again or better yet donate the darn gallons of vinegar away I know they are stashing.

Enjoy

We have been to Steak and Salad quite a few times. I am definitely a fan. I love Turkish food because it's flavorful and somewhat healthy without being too expensive.

Overall I give this place an A- for food and an F for the name.

Whoever named this restaurant didn't do such a great job. It scares people away!! Who wants to go to a place called Steak & Salad???

That being said, the person cooking the food really knows what they are doing. I've said before in other reviews. I would say the only thing that isn't quite as tasty is the shephards salad. it's not quite as refined as the salad I have had in other places. The Kabobs are great. we have had Iskender, Lamb, & Chicken, and all are quite flavorful.

It's a small spot that's quite intimate. The service has always been great.

If you like Turkish, check it out! It's a whole lot cheaper than Bosphorous, and the food is pretty authentic.

So if you just saw the name Steak and Salad you might be think eh...but don't let the name keep you away. The atmosphere is pretty cozy and nice. They have nice outdoor dining and the staff is pretty attentive.

This place is great for authentic Turkish food. My friend and I both got the kabobs and we loved them. I asked for some tzaiki sauce on the side since I'm obsessed with the stuff The fries were just okay (plain steak fries) but I won't discount them for that since it's not a fry place but other Mediterranean places have flavored fries so I was a little disappointed. My friend got an amazing appetizer of melted feta cheese with spinach in filo dough...REALLY good.

Overall, I would come here again especially since they always have coupons and are on http://restaurant.com...the discounts make this place worth it.

My mom and I like to try new places to eat. We have passed by this place several times but it never seemed busy (which is a bad sign in my opinion). We decided to take a chance and we are so glad we did! We have never had Turkish food before and WOW, it was goooood! I had the Gyro Pita and Mom had the Chicken Kebob. The potato salad was fantastic, hummus was good and the Baklava? HOLY MOLY! We were savoring it all the way home. It is a small place and lacks a little ambiance, but overall, we will be back!!

Steak and Salad is pretty close to what you get inside. The menu has a variety of different type meat shish kabobs and plates. I got the lamb shish kabob, and it was served with a rice, pita and a few tomato and onion chunks. The meat was tasty, but the rest was kind of plain.

My plate came with a choice of a side dish, and I ordered what was listed as "spinach salad." What I got was a boat of something that looked like tahini maybe with some chopped up spinach and two mini pita-like breads. I would hardly call this a salad - it was more like a dip and there definitely wasn't much spinach. If this is a traditional Turkish dish, then it needs more of an explanation on the menu or maybe a translation that more appropriately matches the description of the dish.

One big complaint I had was the TV over the bar where I ate (but the place is pretty small so you can consider it in the dining room as well) with Nickelodeon Teen channel or something, really? Unless you are a sports bar or something, can we get the TVs out of the restaurants! If I want to watch TV while I am eating, I'll do it at home where I control the remote.

Decided to try this place out this past Friday afternoon because of all the great reviews, and although I would actually give the food 3 stars, the apathetic/rude server earned Steak & Salad only 2. The miserable server we had made no effort to hide how much she obviously hated her job. Also, I didn't appreciate fighting to be heard over the obnoxiously loud outdoor stereo.

I order the shepherd salad, chix kabob, and my boyfriend ordered the gyro. Shepherd salad tasted like it had been in the fridge for days--fresh dill wilted and soggy--and it only came with one little piece of tomato. Chix kabob was very good and I believe it was appropriately priced. My boyfriend enjoyed his gyro.

Because of all the other positive reviews, I'll probably give this place another try during lunch (they have $5.00 lunch specials) just in case they were having an off day...

Bizarre name and building, for sure. But it's worth a try! Especially since it's cheaper than a certain other place in Winter Park. The lentil salad appetizer was delicious - tart and filling. The main courses are pretty large. However, their wine menu kinda lacks spark.

MMMM Grilled Meat
This is one of our favorite little restaurants to visit on a weekend afternoon. It is usually pretty empty and we get a lot of personal attention.
Yes, the name stinks, it took us a long time to visit based upon the name but once we did, we were happy.
Last visit I started with the red lentil soup. It was pureed and delicious. I have never tried their steaks because we always order their grilled meat. My favorite is the Kofte (grilled meatballs) but I have enjoyed almost all of the other meats.
Each of the meat dishes come with bulgur pilav, pita bread and your choice of a side. I like to order the eggplant salad as my side. It is a tangy yogurty goodness. The spinach salad is good as well. If you order those two, you will notice they come out before the food and you are only given two small pitas to eat it with. Don't fret, save the rest of the salad to dip your yummy meat in.
It is a cute little restauarant with a little outdoor dining,

So we were looking to try a new restaurant, and a friend suggested Turkish..hmm, why not! I did a search on Yelp, and low and behold, Steak and Salad came up.

But I was confused, how is this Turkish? I then started to read the awesome reviews and was very excited to try it. As i was reading I noticed a post about http://restaurant.com. Errrr.....Turned the car around, and headed back to print a $25 off $35 coupon!!! Woohoo! Now I was more excited.

When we arrived, we ordered just about every appetizer. There were only 3 of us. I have to say that they were all excellent! We then split the combination platter for a meal. So good! I would have to say my favorite was the spicy Kefta though.

Finally onto dessert. I asked if they had a Turkish dessert, and the answer was yes! I'm not sure how to describe it, but it sort of tasted like heavily sugared shredded wheat. i know, it does not sound appetizing, but it was very good and worth trying.

I totally agree with some of the other reviewers about the name change. "Steak and Salad" doesn't do a restaurant justice when it actually has a lot more to offer. They have gyros, kebabs, delicious eggplant dip, and all types of meat - lamb, beef, chicken, shrimp, pork...

The restaurant is small inside, so it gets full quickly. The service is great and it looks like they are renovating the exterior eating area, so it will be a great place to sip a tiny cup of Turkish coffee when the weather is nice.

I really hope the owners are reading these reviews. Please change the name!!
On our way to Will's Pub, we were looking for a place to grab dinner. Being Labor Day it became quite a task since almost all the places that I wanted to go were closed. When we drove past Steak and Salad. My initial reaction was, no thanks. Then i noticed Turkish cuisine written under it and it was tempting enough for me to pull a 180 in the middle of the road. Being Albanian, Turkish food hits close to the homemade cooking I was raised with, so I wasn't going to pass this opportunity.

I was not disappointed. I ordered form the Turkish menu (there's a generic menu available as well) the Kofte (spicy grilled meatballs) and the Shish Kebab. The pita and pilav (turkish blended pilaf) accompanied the dish along with a side choice. I got the Eggplant Salad. The salad alone was worth the trip. Smoky flavorful eggplant minced with garlic and roasted peppers, drizzled in olive oil. Purely incredible. that alone is worth driving to Orlando again. The Kofte and Kebab were just as flavorful.

Got some Baklava for dessert which i did not care for. I was a bit disappointed by the use of corn syrup versus honey. It always kills it for me. A place like this should have baklava that you want to peel your fingertips at the end.

Service was decent. Our server was from Khazakstan and was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu.

This was a nice find and i'm stoked that Orlando has such an eclectic variety of international cuisine available.

But please change that name. It does not do justice to what is offered.

This restaurant is ok. I agree that the name is misleading. They should say something about being Turkish but then again the menu is full of steaks, salads, ribs etc so there you go. I think they should concentrate on either Turkish or American. I would have liked to see more interesting things on the Turkish side other than kabobs, gyros and Adana and a few other classic Turkish selections.

We went there for lunch and I had the Adana. It was ok but kind of dry and not very hot. My boyfriend had the Gyro platter and it was the same...kind of dry and not very hot.

We had the fried cheese and that came out very hot and was good.
My boyfriend had the eggplant did which I think was the best thing we had so if you go try that.

The staff was nice and they are working on a larger outside seating renovation which looks like it will be nice.

Overall, I think it has potential and maybe we just were there on an off day but I think they could improve on the food.

This place is great. We ordered completely off of the Turkish menu, even though there looked to be some other delicious items on the other side... maybe next time.

The adana is amazing! It's a spicy meatloaf. Try it! Better yet, they have a combo plate where you can pick two items from a list. Try that with the adana and the shish kebab, with its delicious and flavorful skewered beef. Both are excellent.

I also truly enjoy the Iskender Doner, an open pita covered in gyro meat and tomato sauce with yogurt. It was maybe just a tad heavy on the tomato sauce, but so delicious! I got the large portion, which was huge, but it was so good I ate the whole thing and felt overstuffed the rest of the night.

We decided to stop at the Imperial for a drink or two before going home, and I remember sitting at the bar with my belly feeling huge and uncomfortable and my brain going, "I can't believe you ate all that food and now you're uncomfortably full." To which I replied to myself under my breath, "Worth it."

I've ordered take-out from this restaurant for almost two years now. Out of convenience. They would deliver all the way to OBT and Oakridge when I was bartending at a club out there. They had good food decently priced. However, the order was always wrong. They charge $1 for sour cream or butter and don't give you any even if you order mashed potatoes or a baked potato with your meal. Since it was either this, pizza or Chinese, my co-workers and I continued to order from here despite the problems. Even when I complained to the owner (an older Turkish woman), the orders seemed to get worse when delivered.

I recently just tried this place again and had delivery. My boyfriend loves the steak tips and mashed potatoes. I'm really into fitness now and wanted to get something lighter. I was pleasantly surprised at how much better this place has gotten. The older lady was replaced by a very nice man on the phone who answered all of our questions and OUR ODER WAS ACCURATE!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!! I had the chicken kabob and bean salad. Amazing! It came with a very tasty pilaf and pita bread. I absolutely will recommend this place now and visit more often, as long as they keep up the new changes!

This review is simply for take-out. I was surprised last week with a delivery for lunch from my sweet boyfriend and let me tell you... it was delightful.

The potato salad was refreshing and delicious with no mayo, WIN! It was like a tomato, cucumber and onion salad with some delicious potatoes added to it. The bread that accompanied it was fresh and light as well.

We had the steak kabobs and they were cooked perfectly with green bell peppers and onions scattered throughout. I didn't want lunch to be over. The Turkish Rice Pilaf was a great pair for the kabob, again, light and tasty.

I loved the flavors and the serving was perfect for lunch. I can't wait to dine in and get the full experience!

The name of this restaurant is not creative. We refused to eat here for months because of the name. Finally we went in and learned that you can't judge a book by its cover. Besides the dull name, everything else about this place is great. Eight reasons:

1. Steak and Salad is actually owned by a Turkish family and is an authentic Turkish restaurant.

2. The chef/owner comes out of the kitchen whenever I order to say hello. He can remember me by what I order without ever seeing me come in.

3. They sell giant draft beers and have a full liquor bar.

4. They play Turkish soap operas on a big flat screen TV. Turkish soap operas will really put you in the mood.

5. Adana (spicy meatloaf) with yogurt is one of the tastiest things I have ever put in my mouth.

6. It's in a very central location on Mills Ave; convenient to downtown, Thornton Park and College Park.

7. They deliver.

8. Did I mention the adana? I've been there at least 6 times and have never ordered anything else. Put yogurt on it. It's divine.

I am giving them 3 stars instead of 2 because of good experiences in the past, but today was just bad. I walked in the restaurant, which was basically an icebox because the owner had the air conditioner set to arctic temperatures. Then I opened the menu to see they recently significantly RAISED PRICES pretty much across the board. I also noticed my food portions were slightly smaller than normal. Double whammy. All of this was topped off with well, slightly odd service and totally wrong steak temperatures being brought out.

I have loved this place, and brought large groups of people with me in the past. I will no longer be doing that, as its no longer a really good value. If you want your middle eastern fill, check out Tony's Deli, which is literally right across the street.

I love that this place is called Steak and Salad but that it really has nothing to do with steak or salad--at least not traditional American steak or salad. I love that apparently the entire family is there helping out. And I love that the food is good and cheap.

Steak and Salad is on Mills near Virginia. You'll pass it every day and, if you are like me, never stop. The $5.99 lunch special seems to be their claim to fame.

We finally stopped tonight, and I am happy we did. The server was very helpful and friendly. I had the iskender doner (a gyro platter of beef and lamb with tomato sauce and yogurt over pita) and my partner had the lamb gyro. Both came with sides--the shepherd's salad and eggplant dip salad were our choices. The gyro meat had a nice texture and flavor. The tomato sauce on the iskender donor was lovely. The eggplant dip salad had a nice smoky flavor. The shepherd's salad was refreshing.

The portions were enormous (and we both ordered the "small" choices). With two drinks, our total was $25. We walked away stuffed and happy.

This place isn't going to change your life, but it is good.

This place is awesome. It was with much anticipation that I ordered my first meal. After I read about it on a local Orlando food blog, it took me a month to convince my boyfriend to look past their very plain storefront and moniker and order something. I've eaten here twice now, and both times I got the Chicken Kabob. The bulgar pilav is so yummy, and it's served on top of the pita bread so the bread soaks up all the flavor. The shepard salad I got with my first order was fresh and delicious. I had never tried it before and was pleasantly surprised. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, though I do wish there were just a little more onions and peppers on the skewer.

My boyfriend has tried the Kofte (good but not fantastic, needed more seasoning) Adana (very yummy) and Shish Kabob (very good). Those were his opinions.

I can't speak on the atmosphere as we got takeout both times, but when we went to pick up our food the person who helped us seemed very friendly and the dining room seemed cozy.

Great Turkish food at great prices. What the place lacks in atmosphere, it more than makes up in quality and taste!

We tried the plainly-named Steak and Salad today for lunch. They've finally added "Turkish" to the bottom of the sign. We ordered kebabs, one chicken, one beef, served with pita bread and what the owner/chef called "wheat rice." I don't know that is. We thought it was barley.

The kebabs came with a salad; I chose the bean salad which had black-eyed peas. This is a small, friendly spot on Mills near Virginia. Everything we tried was to our liking. You probably won't walk out of here saying things like "words cannot describe," but it's worth a visit.

We tried this place on a Saturday afternoon with another couple, and were really impressed by the food on the Turkish menu. However, the service was really slow and the cook himself seemed to be the only person working for most of our visit as he was the one that took our orders, and brought our food to the table. Had the wait not been so long this place would have definitely received a 5 star review.

I had the lamb kabob with the eggplant salad (more of a dip) and rice, while my husband and a friend ordered the gyro platter (which was great, but took a while to bring to the table).

I will give this place a second chance, but hopefully the wait won't be soooooooo long!

I went to Steak and Salad - Turkish Cuisine today for lunch with a group of 5 people. Have just returned for a week long visit to Istanbul I wanted to check this place out. It has had good reviews from both Scot Joseph and The Orlando Weekly.

The back page of the menu has there Turkish specialties. There was a good selection of Turkish dishes.

I had the Chicken Kebab - chicken breast, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, peppers, and special marinade. Which came with one side dish I chose the Ispanak Ezme (Spinach Dip Salad) - chopped spinach, garlic and yogurt .

Both were very good. Finished the meal off with Baklava and a Turkish coffee.

This is a place to add to your lunch list.
