Came here for a friend's birthday on a weekday night.
It was pretty crowded, and I didn't really enjoy the music that they were blasting. It made me want to get out of there ASAP. We ordered the shark bucket. It was reasonably priced. The drink had A LOT of ice in it. It doesn't really do much, but if you drink towards the bottom .. you'll probably start feeling the alcohol.
Extra star because a server randomly handed us a sample platter, because he couldn't find the table that ordered it. :) Thank you!
I'm not honestly a huge fan of Sharkeez. The atmosphere is alright and it gets packed on Friday and Saturday nights, but the service is terrible. It always takes a long time to get drinks and they always pester you to put your phone number and email on their list so they can cold call you with deals.
The last two times I've been there it's smelled like vomit.
My girls decided to throw me a surprise bachelorette party here. Not only was the staff awesome and super accommodating but they made me feel like it was my last night on earth. The bartender, aka mustache Marky, was the best! Made me  want to come back this weekend. Drinks were great, that fish bowl of awesomeness was even better. :)
Review Source:I was ranging around 2.5/3 stars, but one of the "bouncers/waiting" staff was kind enough to give us a free appetizer sampler plate when he couldn't find the table that had ordered it.
Drinks are at a somewhat moderately reasonable price, the place can get a little crowded almost every day. Â There is normally music playing and a reasonable amount of people dancing in a crowded small "dance floor" if you want to call it that.
Food: so-so. Â Drinks: the fishbowl has a LOOT of ice in it, but still gets 3 or so people hammered.
I have only been here at night when Sharkeez becomes the hottest place to be at on the Peninsula.
I have been coming here for over a year consistently at least a few times a month.
The vibe is great. The service is great. The music is great. And I love a bar that keeps sports broadcasting on the Tv's.
I would recommend this place to anybody and frequently have brought out of town friends here for a night on the town.
The only downside is the place can get very crowded...obviously because everyone wants to be here.
Most importantly the staff is Amazing. I have never had a bad experience; everyone is laid back, friendly, and overall taking care of their business.
In particular, Antoine has to be one of the best of security I have ever interacted with. He keeps everything in line while still creating an inviting, fun atmosphere. Everybody (including myself) loves him because he treats everyone with respect. If Sharkeez ever lost him they would lose a chunk of their business.
It was my first time here and I was disappointed. Came here on a Monday afternoon and it was pretty crowded. I was confused because i had to order food and drinks from the bar? No servers to take your order at your table.
Original Baja fish tacos a la carte, $3.99 per taco- large portions, they double up on the flour tortilla
Pop Rockin Watermelon Margarita- ordered the supersize for $13. this drink was WAY too sweet. It was painful to finish.
Boyfriend ordered a beer and it was warm because of the plastic cup that they serve it in.
Don't know if I'd be back as there many other places to try around the area.
3 stars for service. one gentleman was friendly and attentive towards us and greeted us right when we got in.
Horrible service! I went there today with friends and was yelled at by the bartender to "wait!" and "hold on a sec!" when I was trying to order 4 drinks for me and my friends. Â Needless to say we all left. Â They missed out on money and future service. Â Of course people will continue to go there but we won't. I hope this place closes down. Â Bad service is never acceptable.
Review Source:Giant cockroach. I'm a first time customer and came in for the towers. Once I poured my beer I saw some 'remnants' floating in my glass. I then saw a large cockroach lodged in the tap of the beer tower. Our server acted like it was nothing, told us to 'think of it as extra protein' and got us another tower. The tower he brought back was the exact same tower with the roach still lodged inside. He laughed it off, no apologies and acted like he threw the tower away in the trash next to our table. Minutes later we noticed the tower was not in the trash. Management never showed at our table and we were treated as an annoyance.
Review Source:2 stars for the food, 3rd & 4th stars go to Eric the amazing bartender! Stiff drinks, generous shots, fun crowd, bloody mary bar and unlimited free mimosas with the purchase of a breakfast entree, sign me and my liver up!
Sidebar: I went on a Sunday morning, I probably should have been at church but I will ask for forgiveness this coming Sunday.
First let me stress that I try not to be one of those people who complains about minor little issues.
With that said, my immediate and extended family was visiting S. California from the easy coast. Â Some of my relatives had been to Baja Sharkeez for lunch, and suggested it to my parents and I for a casual dinner.
The second we walked in, we were met by very loud music (so loud that I couldn't hear myself think, let alone talk to my parents). After a few minutes of sitting down, we agreed that this was not the place for us. Â As I was trying to get up, an employee tried to stop me by sitting down right next to me (really unnecessarily close), and then starting shaking his a** in my face.
Ownership should be very upset and embarrassed at how their employees behave.
So it was a hot summer day so my husband and I decided to go to this Baja Sharkeez everyone talks about. Big mistake. So after looking for parking for 15min we finally go a spot and went on in. I was excited to have a nice lunch but instead found myself suffocated. It is really annoying that you have to get up to order. Especially when there are drunk people cutting and just crowding around the line. We just ended up leaving and eating across the street.
Review Source:I made a Yelp account just to write this review.
Tonight was my friend's birthday. We had a racist bartender. Specifically towards Asians. Had a Chinese friend and he completely ignored her to serve a white girl. We both had to speak up to get his attention. I'm Filipino. I paid in cash and deliberately had my change placed on some wet area on the bar countertop. Idk what his problem was, but one thing for sure, no tip for him and his neon orange tank was tacky lol. Music was good though. A star for the DJ.
I'm not sure what I can say about Sharkeez that other reviewers haven't already said, but here goes.  This was my first bar ever.  Way back in 2001, I was in town on a family vacation, I was 18 and my brother and his friend helped me sneak in using my brother's  ID.  It was a memorable night to say the least(although my memory of it is a bit hazy). Â
Anyways, fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, I rented a beach house in Newport for my 30th birthday, and my friends and I went here for some Sunday Funday drinking. Â The place is pretty much exactly how I remember it. Â Filled with the kind of people that you expect in Newport Beach. Â I overhead someone saying, "wow, this is pretty much bro epicenter". Â Not a bad way to describe it. Â I don't consider myself to be in that category, but I don't mind it either.
Drinks are pretty standard prices and quality. Â Shark Attacks are always fun if you're with a big group. Â Bartenders were overall friendly and attentive.
Overall, it's not a bad place to check out although I think there are some better options in the area. Â The people watching is pretty great though.
Ive only come here for breakfast twice. My bf lives near by so we take a morning run and ended up here.
Banana nut pancake - I ordered that both times I was there. haha. Maybe next time Ill try something different but this is pretty darn good. Dusted with powedered sugar, slices of banana and syrup on the side.
Mexican omelette is what I think its called? But Ive tried a few bites of 2 different omlettes. I think its their salsa that kicks it up a notch.
endless mimoas's for the first hour. Why not!! Â
If its a nice sunny day ,sit in the patio area. I love that section, unless theirs smokers. which I wish they could ban that... I mean... if you need a smoke break, step outside of the restaurant. I want to enjoy my breakfast without having to deal with second hand smoke also.
Been here tons of times and always have a blast!
Most recently I went with some friends and we took a cab to get there. As I was exiting the cab and walking to the door, my clumsy ass in high heels ate it right in front of the bouncers. Of course, they thought I was wasted, but after some talking they realized I was okay. One of the bouncers in particular was amazing! As I went inside with my friends, we carried on like normal, ordering drinks, etc. One of the bouncers, Eric had come inside and brought me an ice pack for my knee from my embarrassing fall! Not sure why he did it, but it was super sweet of him and seriously... What bouncers take care of people like that? I was so grateful. He totally went out of his way. If I didn't know better I would say he was the CEO of Sharkeez because I've never seen an employee at a bar treat a customer like that (and I work at a bar myself!)
Thanks Eric! :)
Ok.. So maybe Sharkeez isn't the most authentic taco shop... but that isn't what it's all about. Â Sharkeez has a great menu, with a twist on popular mexican food. Definitely more exciting than the run of the mill bean and cheese burrito.
You should go for the great atmosphere, the cheap drinks, friendly staff, and the great food. I highly recommend checking out the different fajita options - the Fajita Combo is by far my favorite. If you're not in the mood for Mex, I would go with the Roadhouse Tri-Tip sandwich - marinated to perfection, topped with onion straws, bbq suce and blue cheese... absolutely one of my favorite items on the menu.
If you make it in on a weekend morning.. make sure to check out the The build-your-own Bloody Mary bar - awesome assortment of mixers and garnishes, and a great selection of house-made bloody mixes.  Not to mention, bottomless mimosas  for an hour with your breakfast purchase!!
Staff is super friendly and fast, food comes out quickly and tastes great! Â Oh and if you have a hangover, no better cure than the breakfast burrito.
Came here for a quick and easy down and dirty hangover eats.
Since it was noon by the time we got going, I ordered a salad somehow hoping this would make up for my midnight drunken food fest. Sombrero caesar salad served on a cheese crisp tortilla with your choice of chicken or shrimp. I had shrimp which tasted like they were frozen and the salad had WAY too much dressing but over all tasty
The mimosas while free for 1 hour with breakfast are less than mediocre but hey they're free! So it's an OK deal if you're in need of a morning hair of the dog. Plus free chips and salsa.
A nice convenient walk down the peninsula otherwise parking can be a challenge especially on a nice sunny day. It's convienient if you're still in no shape to drive so it's OK by me
I would have to say that it is hard to say that there is one good thing about this particular place. The food is amazing , the staff are really fun to be around, and the atmosphere is exactly what you would expect from a beach bar.
The tvs all over the place make it a great place to watch a game, and the fact that everything is decently priced makes it even better.
They get a 5 star from me for sure.
I've heard many great things about this place, especially their sunday mimosa brunch, and I finally had the chance to try it last weekend. No, not for their mimosa brunch... not even for their happy hour. Would I go back in the future? DEFINITELY!
A few friends wanted to watch the sunday football game at a bar in Newport. After checking out a few places, we decided the overall atmosphere at Sharkeez was best. It was really crowded for a sunday afternoon - the place will completely filled with football fans. We couldn't even get a seat inside, so we had to sit in their patio for a little bit. Thankfully a group left, so we were able to score a booth pretty quick.
We first ordered a few drinks, which weren't too expensive, but definitely could have been cheaper. The donkey punch was sweet and tangy and the pina colada was yummy! The guys took turns buying rounds of tequila shots for the table. They have several draft beers too, which is always good!
The food here was surprisingly pretty good! My boyfriend and I split the appetizer sampler (or whatever it's called), which came taquitos, quesadillas, mexican pizza, boneless chicken, sour cream and guacamole. Everything was really good and at $16, it wasn't too pricey for two meals - we were both completely stuffed! The self-serve chips and salsa were pretty good too!
I think my favorite things about this place, though, is the atmosphere. It has a very chill, laid back feel to it. I had soooo much fun cheering and yelling, and I'm not even a football fan! I'll definitely be back for happy hour and sunday brunch!
Do yaself a favah. Don't eat here.
Well, eat some chips from the help yourself chip and salsa buffet. They're salsas are yummy. Really yummy.
I'd totally come here with a group of friends if I actually lived in the area. We had super big beers for super cheap. Oh, did I mention we came on Christmas Day? We did.
The staff was super cool and it was pleasing to see they had upbeat attitudes about working on Christmas.
Sharkeez is my local watering hole! I love the staff & have over the years gotten to know most of them over the years. I always have a great time there, its a great place to gather with friends for happy hour, games, birthday parties or Sunday Funday. They always seem to be having some sort of fun nights, with different dress up nights and interactive games & prizes. Its always good fun & high energy.
Their food is good too, much much better than most bar's food. I love to get the app sampler when we have a big group to watch the games or bday parties. This is also a great go to for breakfast/ brunch on sundays to start off football Sunday. They have great breakfast & they also have a great deal of an hour of mimosas with some breakfast combos for like $5 dollars! There really isnt any better place for food, drinks, games, & fun!
The atmosphere is AWESOME here! No matter what time of day you go, you're going to have a great time! The Weekend breakfast and bloody mary bar is SO cheap, and really good too. You can enjoy breakfast there for less than 5 bucks! I love the fact that they also give you a lot of options for your bloody marys and oh yeah, all you can drink mimosaaaaas !!!!
Fajitas are great, and so is the staff. Don't go and act a fool, and you'll have a great time! The drinks are good too, anything I ask for they do it up quick! If you're looking for a place to watch the game and have a few beers, don't bother going anywhere else but here. The have an insane amount of tvs which will pretty much guarantee your game of choice will be on. I definitely recommend giving this place a shot if you're looking for a fun time in Newport!
Lame...
Haven't been in a while, probably been about a year or so, and for good reason. The last time I was here, I got kicked out for no reason. Drank a lot, was pretty tore up, but certainly not incoherent. I went to the bathroom, and when I came out, a bouncer was there to tell me that I was being kicked out. When I asked why, he responded with a 'I don't know, they just told me to kick you out.'
Well I unhappily complied, and as I was brought outside, two of my friends came out to find out what happened. I told them that I got kicked out for no reason, and that the bounce couldn't tell me why. When they tried to go back in to round up the troops, the bouncer at the door told them they had to wait in line, even though he just saw them leave less than 2 minutes prior.
The next morning, still puzzled as to why I was kicked out, I realized why...and it is a very smart business tactic, except that they lost a customer for life. Here's their strategy: I was visibly drunk; not out of control, not obnoxious, but it was clear that I had ordered and consumed several drinks. Meanwhile, there is a line of potential patrons waiting to get to the bar and drop a lot of cash on overpriced drinks. Because the place gets so crowded (another reason why I'm not a Sharkeez fan), they can only let a certain amount of people in. Now me and my crew who have been there for a couple hours are less likely to buy as many drinks as the groups waiting impatiently at the door. Therefore, if they kick one person out, that person's group will usually follow, opening room to allow more customers in, who will hopefully order more drinks than the party that just exited.
I have seen this same scenario in some other reviews...Great business strategy for maximizing revenue, but bad for customer service. But then again, who goes to the bars in Newport for their service...
You win Sharkeez, but I will never spend a dime in your small, damp, uncomfortable establishment.
3.5 stars. I had the food here for the first time the other day, and it was actually pretty good! I had the shrimp tacos, which came with two and a small side of white rice. They were really good and it threw me by surprise. I use to always go to the one in hermosa beach when I lived out that way, so it was nice to go to a different one. The staff was all very friendly. There was a charger game on two, so it was great to see all the flat screens playing the game!
I will be back!
Haha, apparently I'm a regular here because I checked in both times I've been here.
Baja Sharkeez is not really my first choice in bars out here, but I haven't been able to check much of the other bars though. It's located right next to the pier at the end of Newport and there's always tons of free parking. Pretty easy to find.
It seems to have the same drink specials that the HB Sharkeez has. A pretty diverse crowd. First time I went it was mostly folks from NLA/WAKA groups I'm associated with because of kickball. To be honest, I don't remember my first time here. It was that kind of night. Must have been fun though! The last time I went here, it was on a random Friday night with some girls from my kickball league. Girls' night out. It wasn't crowded when we got there, but trust, after 30 minutes or so, it started to get packed. A tip - if you get there too late, expect to wait in a reallyyyy long line.
The thing I like about this location is that it's so much bigger than the HB one. A completely different layout and a lot more room to walk around and even dance. There's a pretty big bar that wraps around and it's not that hard to get a bartender to get you a drink. Well, I take it back, it's easier for me because I'm a girl. Must be harder if it's packed and you're a guy. Sucks sometimes doesn't it? Anyways, they have a lot of drink specials and the bartenders are pretty good when it comes to making drinks. No complaints there. Like I said before, the crowd is pretty diverse and they're generally nice and just looking to have a good time out.
If you're bar hopping in the Newport area, I recommend you hit this place first because it'll get super crowded later and you might not even be able to get in. Overall, I'd get it 3.5 stars. I'll probably be back here sooner or later, but I guess it's worth checking out.
I'm starting to understand this place less and less the more I go, in addition, to disliking it even more.
Okay so I guess I understand if you're a bar I shouldn't expect there to be dancing, but good company. Nope. YET, for some stupid reason you have DJ's and light shows going on as if to promote dancing. But for some reason you lack significant dance floor space and your DJ's suck... balls.
Now this is directed to the incompetent DJ you had the Thursday night I went. Really? Really? You're going to tell me that you're (and I quote, verbatim) "not allowed to play black music." Really? So for some reason hip-hop, r&b, and rap just became illegal overnight? (To clarify I just feel as though house, electro, dubstep are fine in moderation; however, they are played ad nauseum and I am sick of it. I need something with some bass and an actual beat to dance to.)
But for some reason as you are continuing to "dj" using your house music you don't even know who Kaskade is?! I'm not kidding folks the DJ claimed to not know who Kaskade was. We're pretty much sure at this point that he was probably playing someone else's set off youtube.
Came here to have some fun before heading out to the beach!
It's always packed so try to find a spot anywhere you can! AAnyways they have a huge selection of drinks from fishbowls to sirenge shots to good old piña coladas! I would say there drinks here for an overcrowded bar are good considering the people & atmosphere. Obviously people come here to have a good time it's right by the beach don't expect high end drinks or food...
So for what it is I am a fan because you can have fun & their bar food in my opinion isn't bad it may not be the best but you get it.
Burrito wasn't bad
Nachos here come with a lot of toppings so that's always good!
Fish tacos were yummy!
I think it's great They have special events every night if I lived closer this would def be a hangout spot of mine before or after the beach!
Fun sput and was a great spot to stop at for a beach break! Â Breakdown below:
Location- Â Fantastic! Â Although parking is a hassle anywhere near the beach, you can walk from the beach so it's a great spot for a quick sun break or to get your drink on! Â They also have outdoor seating for some prime people watching!
Food:  Big win is the happy hour Tuesdays!  Got the $6 fajita and it came with SOOO much food including the chip bar that is irresistible-  went with my fiancé and we were able to share for our lunch!  Also got a huge Mexican beer with everything coming to $10...it was a steal!  We didn't try the mixed drinks but they looked delish!
Service: Â You order at the bar and they give you this number stand to put at your table and they bring you the food. Â We got our food right away and they checked on us a couple times.
All in all - 5 stars!
Sharkeez... and my countless drunk college nights.... lol
I've been to the Sharkeez in HB but I prefer the crowd at the Newport one better.
Drinks are decent and you don't wait that long for a bartender since there's a few of them. The fish bowl is huge but its like juice - hangover waiting to happen... I'm not a fan of girly drinks much :/
The crowd here on Thursday nights is diverse ranging from college students to professionals but still on the younger side. Occassionally you see a super old person hitting on a girl that barely looks of age but heyyy fun nights!? Haven't really come here other nights so can't say how it is other than Thursdays.
A lot of parking.. and walking distance to other bars and seaside :D
