To tell you the truth I'm surprised to see Bar Louie has such a low average. In fact, part of me wants to give them four stars to try and help bump it up, but do I think it's the bees knees as far as restaurants or bars go? No way, Jose. However, I would definitely go back here again for a pre-movie meal in the area for the following reasons:
+ A fairly large selection of beer, even a few local brews which is almost unheard of in places like this.
+ A decent selection of wine, including sparkling wine by the glass.
+ A menu that probably offers something for everyone. And while it isn't revolutionary, the food was fine.
+ Quick, friendly service.
+ A seriously large bar area and a seriously large dining area, but not overwhelmingly so.
+ Plenty of happy hour deals and nightly specials.
Sure, there were a group of bros ordering shots (Shots! Shots! Shots! Shots! Shots! E'erybdy!) and watching some sporting event, but I barely even noticed them thanks to the spacious quality of the place. And the guy next to me at the bar was flying solo and reading a book. So there was a balance. And I liked it.
The happy hour specials here are ok...nothing terribly exciting to rush over for, but I do happen to like their tickled pink and diva martinis, so I will lean towards the three star mark.
Went here the other night for dinner with a couple of friends and ordered food for the first time. We had a trio of queso/salsa/guac with chips to start off with. No bueno my friends. The queso was the only good part of this. The salsa tasted like marinara sauce and the guac...well...no taste.
I also ordered the mac and cheese (which I've heard so many people rave about) with broccoli and again, no taste. I even loaded it up with salt. Still. No taste.
it has a fun atmosphere, and I will probably return for the martinis, but no hankering for any of the food there.
The food is good, and it would be perfect for watching football, but they will only play audio for the home team games (so Broncos only). The rest of the time you are forced to listen to crappy music, even during Sunday night and Monday night games if the broncos aren't playing. I can't stand that and would rather watch it at home. Why go trough the trouble to offer happy hours and game time deals if you're going to ruin the experience with bad music? If customers want to hear the games, mgmt shouldn't be so inflexible.
Review Source:I have been here a couple times now. Initially I thought, "stereotypical chain mall bar - get something simple (ie wings) that they can't ruin".
This last time I went, my friend and I ordered HH drinks - had great dirty martini's from their $5 martini menu. Awesomeness!!
Then we ordered the turkey/ ham/ brie sandwich and an order of mac and cheese with bacon and jalapeno's. Well done Bar Louie.
The food was above average with good flavors. The drinks were well made and the bartenders were super cute and fun - like girl bartenders should be.
This is a great place for large groups as the space is expansive and there is a fireplace on the floor, and suits a comfortable group party.
Plenty of parking and TV's if you are there to watch a game. It occurred to me last week, I actually like this place...a lot.
I have been here a couple times but it has been a while and this time I have to review it. I should have looked at other reviews before letting my wife recommend we go here with the family. I parked and walked to the joint, wife had already ordered my drink. Took forever. And the place was not busy at all. Seemed like there was plenty of wait staff to be plenty attentive to all. I will give them 2 thumbs up on the appetizers, chicken nachos and the loaded tots. We ate off of them having a couple drinks then ordered entrees. Do not order the Drunken Beer Batter Fish and Chips. They were over cooked and all breading. It was tough to eat much of it at all. And the fries were luke warm at best.
Update: I forgot a couple of things my family just reminded me of. My wife drinks Mich Ultra, they were out. My daughter loves the Mac and Cheese, they were out. My Nephew wanted something small, sliders. Once again, they were out of. Really!?
The loaded tots were excellent but not enough to get me to ever come back again. And I agree with one of the other reviews, seems management could do a better job with the place.
Very unimpressed. After waiting 20 minutes to be greeted we finally ordered. Our app (loaded tots) came out 15 minutes later with some foreign object in it...our lunch came out immediately after the app (which the server didn't remove despite the random stuff in it.) our sandwiches were okay at best. They were out of togo cups...and sweetener. I didn't see one smile on a single staff face nor did a manager come by our table. All in all it was a bad experience, obviously poorly run. I won't be back.
Review Source:A solid happy hour hangout with more class than it can handle.
This place is great for informal meetings, stays pretty quiet, they have a wide arrange of good taps, martinis and appetizers that make your stay worth it.
The entrees has always been kinda of bland. Avoid anything fried right off the bat, they seem not be able to get the simplest dishes right. Including fries and burgers.
ProTip: If you can sit at the bar, changes the whole experience from ok to rather pleasant!
I dig Bar Louie, but I have decided I am just going to stick to beer when I come here. Â Paying $40 (2 martinis and 2 mojitos-$10 each) for post-movie cocktails the other night was not on my casual Friday evening agenda. Â Might I add that cocktail prices are not on the menu...well played, Louie. Â The mojitos were nothing to write home about (too minty and slightly bitter) and certainly not worth $10. Â When I see a martini garnished with bleu cheese olives on the menu, I automatically order it. Â The martini kind of hit the spot BUT it was overly dirty. Â I may have liked that much olive juice when I was first "learning" to drink vodka martinis, but holy sodium, Batman! Â And the olives still had the pimento in there with just a bit of bleu cheese hiding it...major garnish fail...remove the pimentos, people! Â And it was just Effen vodka...$10 for effing Effen and "masked" olives. Â OK, I'm over it.
Griping aside, Bar Louie has a pretty dang good selection of beer...and appropriately priced, at that. Â I find this is a good place to watch games, as they have many TVs throughout the bar and cocktail area. Â I prefer the ambiance here over any other chain restaurant. Â And for someone that loves a good mix of music, Bar Louie tickles my music fancy. Â One minute you're listening to classic rock, then some baby-making R & B and then some old-school hip-hop. Â The service has never been outstanding, but I have never had a bad experience here either.
I would describe the food as a step above and more creative than standard bar food. Â I really like the Hummus, Tabbouleh & Tzatziki plate. Â Although the Tzatziki is a bit too sour creamish and less yogurtish, I like the pita and big-ass cucumbers it is served with. Â The Calamari (traditional, please...the buffalo is overkill) is decent, as is the Bruschetta. Â I have tried the Sesame Tuna sandwich on more than one occasion. Â A tuna steak deliciously crusted in sesame seeds, romaine, tomato, avocado and ginger mayo...nice and light. Â It was perfect on all occasions except my last visit. Â My server asked how I wanted it cooked (they have never asked me that), so I said "the rarer the better, thanks!" Â It came out medium well...barely any pink...I was a sad panda, but ate it anyway. Â Oh well, their menu is large enough that I can find plenty of things I like...such as the Turkey, Ham & Brie sandwich. Â It is accompanied by dijon mustard, field greens, blackberry jam and parmesan french bread. Â Interesting flavors that seem to work well together.
The pricey cocktails won't keep me from coming to BL, it'll just keep me in my beer bubble.
I am really surprised at the bad reviews. I went here for lunch with some friends and everyone had a great meal. I had the pear and blue cheese salad and it was super delish. Everyone else had burgers and we all had beers. Everything was really good. The only drawback was it was hard to find the waitress when we needed something. Otherwise, it was a great meal and I would go back for sure.
Review Source:I was here to meet an old high school friend who was in town on business a couple of days ago; he chose the locale to meet up. Â Bar Louie is your typical sportsbar, average bar food and a number of taps for beer and OK cocktails served by generic chain bar servers.
We stayed quite a while catching up, maybe 4 hours on a slow night, leaving by 9:45 PM. Â I'd never normally hang out at a place this long, but, as I said, we were old friends who hadn't seen one another in years, and the place wasn't busy. Â There wasn't anything bad, nor memorably good about this visit. Â Just some beers, a martini, spinich dip, a chicken pasta dish and a sandwich. Â Food was unimaginative but fine, and the beers were cold. Â Our server was there when we needed him and he was pleasant and got everything ordered and delivered correctly.
If you're in Northfield/Stapleton and want to meet up for beer and conversation, or to watch the game, you could do worse elsewhere.
A nice local bar. It has a lot of TVs so you can watch multiple games. I've been with my husband three times and the staff is ok, but not very friendly. At times I felt like they resented the fact that we requested more items - including a refills on water. The appetizers were only OK and the happy hour selection is very limited. When we got the calamari it was cold and kind of soggy.
If you go for just a couple of beers, this bar is alright. But if you want something more, head down the street to La Sandia or Toby Keiths which have better selection and food.
They have $5 burgers on Tuesday nights and are always happy to seat a large group of sweaty derby girls right after we get out of practice.
Service can be slow (but with 1 server for 10 of us, that's not out of the ordinary) but always friendly.
Burgers are great, drinks are stupidly pricey and extraordinarily average.
Tuesday nights they also have live music, usually some sort of singer/songwriter/coverband thing. It's always loud and never that great.
Like many eating establishments in the Northfield Shopping area, Bar Louie was pretty dead right at the typical lunch rush. And also like many other places in this area, I don't know why that is. I had a chicken salad that was very good. My two lunch companions got sandwiches and burgers and were equally pleased.
I just moved to Denver from DC about a month ago, so maybe my idea of the "lunch rush" is a little off, here. But it's taking some getting used to. I'm constantly expecting to see mobs of people but I almost never do.
There is a very large wraparound bar here with TV screens playing sports, too.
If you want to catch a game or kill some time, come here. You won't have to wait for a table or struggle to find bar space. It's pretty open, the prices are right, and the staff is friendly.
I met my brother here at his suggestion to watch some Olympics and eat lunch. The place is pretty big. It may be a great spot to party, but the food is so-so bar food at best. The service was spotty - nice when it was there but not always around when we needed them - and the place wasn't very busy. Maybe this was just an off day. My bro seems to like it, so I'll give them another shot.
Review Source:In all fairness I would give Bar Louie a 1.5 star rating. This really sucks, because Bar Louie is in an ideal location and if they step there service up, they could be a great place for people who are looking for some additional fun after the movie, shopping, or the comedy club.
I was with a relatively large group and it took FOREVER to get our drinks! The wait staff has a lackluster attitude, and their sense of urgency was non existent. When we FINALLY got our food, about 25 minutes later, you could tell my fries were sitting for awhile, they were cold, chewy, and I would have felt bad feeding them to the rabbits that roam around Northfield. I brought it to their attention and they did bring out some fresh fries.
Needless to say, when you go to a place like Bar Louie, you expect a certain level of service. I know their employees get paid better than $1 store employees, so they should treat their clients as such.
I can't say that i will NEVER go back, however; I will take every bar in the area into consideration before I commit to going there!
Like most Friday nights, my friends and I decided to bar hop Northfield area, as a friend was in town and staying near the airport. Our night started here:
9pm = Set foot into Bar Louie.
9:04pm = spot a large table in the bar area. Snag it. it's ours!
9:10pm = the waitress spots us [despite the fact it wasn't busy], takes our order & proceeds to the bar.
9:18pm = Mingling & waiting for our drinks.
9:25pm = STILL waiting for our drinks.
9:37 = My friends and I leave the bar annoyed that after 30 minutes our drinks had no arrived, our waitress was busy chatting with the other bar servers and didn't have the courtesy to explain what was going on.
I'm sorry BL, you just don't do it for me anymore.
Hmmm, no thanks.
Maybe this place is tolerable during lunch time, but our 7:30 dinner visit left me feeling like I wandered into a dance club not a restaurant. Our experience with the food and the service was completely overshadowed by the insanely loud bump bump booty music playing. Lot's of college aged kids yelling and flexing their muscles. Surprised we didn't see a spontaneous game of beer pong break out. I definitely wouldn't call this a restaurant ~ it's a bar that offers food. I woke up this morning with a sore throat. I new immediately that it was from my attempt to make conversation with my husband two feet across the table.
The food was ok, nothing special. They don't offer anything on their menu that separates them from any other restaurant of their kind. Service was pretty good, took forever for her to actually acknowledge us when we arrived, but she checked in on us often enough after that. The space is nice. Plenty of seating for both table and bar. They have a patio area as well. Won't be returning.
I will start off saying YUCK on the food! Food is overpriced. I ordered a buffalo style chicken sandwich for $11, and it ended up being nothing but a bad cut of chicken breast that still had lots of fat on it, pounded thin with a meat mallet and fried with way too much breading batter. Â The blue cheese dressing left something to be desired for as well. Nothing but the cheapest ingredients used. Â My husband got a burger and said it was fried, not even grilled.
I ONLY give this 2 stars because of the nice open feel of the place, and the attentive waitress. Â Actually wait... no. It deserved a 1 for the food. Sorry attentive waitress... Â a restaurant is only as good as it's food.
Decent food, the Mac and cheese is AMAZING though! Typical bar fare food, although burgers are better than some of the others. Been here on a few Friday nights both for parties and just for dinner. Each time was decent. Some wait staff is rude but for the most part overall good experience. Always able to find a table and pretty decent table service.
Check your bill during happy hour however, you may find that you've been 'upsold' without even knowing it.
Perfect place for killing time before a movie or show. Grab a drink and an appetizer. No complaints, but a bit overpriced, and an unexciting menu. I do appreciate that there is plenty of space between tables, so it doesn't feel crowded. Lots of TVs all over the place, so it's easy to get distracted.
YES: "Let's meet up at Bar Louie before the show at Madcap Theater."
NO: "I'd like to take you out to eat at an enjoyable restaurant, potential girfriend."
Bar Louie is consistent, but not necessarily great.
The food is above average for bar food, but I don't find myself going out of the way to return for anything in particular.
What I DO return for is the beer selection. Â Very good diversity, and plenty of local taps.
For a bar- 4 stars. Â For a restaurant- 2 stars.
Nope, nope, nope. Â Don't bother patronizing this place. Â I've been to other Bar Louie locations, and actually like them quite a bit. Â I thought I would give this location (Northfield) a go, but I was bitterly disappointed.
The first problem: Â The place is populated with gang-bangers, wannabe gang-bangers, gang-banger girlfriends, and gang-banger hangers-on. Â The clientele is mostly lower class thugs and shady characters. Â These are not the types of people that I want to be around, so I found the initial presence of the place very unappealing.
The second problem: Â The bartender that I engaged to ask about happy hour, drink specials, etc., had very little time for me and made it abundantly clear that he was not interested in my questions.
I left as quickly as I entered, choosing not to spend my money in such a raunchy place. Â There are enough good Denver establishments in which to spend hard-earned dollars that there is no need to become a guest at the Northfield Bar Louie location. Â Skip this place and go somewhere else.
The atomsphere is decent..a very large space with lots on tap, tons-o-TV's, a fire place. Two pool tables unplayed for an obvious reason: BLACK FELT. Pool tables aren't designer items! GREEN ONLY! Its like Boise Sate's smurf turf. It ain't right.
But the one-star collar is given due to the amazingly slow and awful service. We were fun and festive group of five there to spend money, but the very cute, yet very inept waitress was on  a 30 minute per visit plan .
To be fair it was very busy, so maybe  we caught them on an off night. A REALLY off night.
I WAS UP ALL NIGHT LAST NIGHT RUNNING TO THE TOILET. Â OVER AND OVER.
From a burger! Â How is that possible in Denver in Winter? Â It's not like the food sits out in the heat and spoils...
I ordered the burger with swiss cheese, and it came with pepper jack (which I hate), but I seriously doubt it was the cheese that gave me the runs. Â Hint: Swiss is the one with holes in it. Â I worked in a restaurant once where the cooks were out of control and the manager was too weak to rein them in. Â They were ALWAYS stoned and actually tried to make the food unpleasant. Â Maybe something like that is happening here.
Bar Louie, you made me suffer. Â FU! Â I curse you. Â Please go out of business. Â
They won't go out of business, of course. Â Their location is primo. Â They could serve fecal matter on buns (God, I hope that's not actually what they fed me...) and still thrive there.
Do not eat here.
Like so many others my girlfriend and I Â decided to go to Bar Louie for a before movie snack and brew.
I sat at the bar where it took 18 minutes before we were even greeted. We ordered our drinks, when the bartender came back with them he was in a hurry to leave. When asked for a menu, he acted like we ruined his day.
We only had around 40 minutes left till the move started so we decided to just get some appetizers. I ordered the bruschetta, my date got the spinach dip. Food took almost 20 minutes for items that should be prepared already.
The worst thing was when a lady was bringing our food from the kitchen she decided to snack off of our plates before bringing them over to us.
When I got the bill I was not even surprised that this place charged me 5 bucks per beer for a domestic. Â
With so many other places around this establishment you would think they would want to be competitive. At least give good customer service. I guess not.
This place is bad in the actual essence of the word. Â I stopped in here for a pre-movie bevvy and snack. Â It wasn't busy at all, but my server had a bug up her butt from when I walked in. Â I guess I interrupted her nose picking or something. Â The service in this place pushed the limits of my patience and tested my temper.
Despite the fact that my drink splashed on the table when she slammed it down in front of me, I still said thanks.  Did I get a "you're welcome" which is common courtesy in most states?  No.  I got a surly  "yeah, yeah" and a "what else?".  At that point, I decided to skip the snack, pay my tab, and get the heck out of there.
Came in a few minutes before happy hour ended but were not served until a few minutes after and they didn't give us happy hour prices. Weak!
Ordered martinis, which we were told were $5 but turned out to be $7...she redeemed that in a roundabout way but we still ended up paying more than we should have.
I ordered a burger w no burger, but asked for the bun/cheese to be grilled. Came out cold and a fresh out the package piece of cheese.
Every stall in the bathroom was out of toilet paper and the door was broken on the one I went in.
The well vodka is McCormicks which was surprisingly delish in a martini (I think martinis were just SO dirty that the vodka was overpowered)
The tatertots were good but where do you get off chrging $3.50 for a basket??
They have good ranch. Fin.
Seriously~!? Why do you bring kids in to a place that has BAR in the title? sheesh...
I used to frequent this place...and one cool night in August I was competing in a SERIOUS pool match... a little munchkin ruined my pool shot, cost me the game and the title! I am reliving it in my head right now.... it was a sad day... I would say most of the time I have been to BL there are families eating with kids ..... I guess whatever. Not my favorite. Â I would stick to night time to avoid that!
I WILL have to agree on the Calamari... not too great... Never had AMAZING service here... just the basic with no character... Nothing remember-able. I like the layout and that seems to be for everyone. The bar is nice and big and perfect to grab a seat and watch a game. I have had and really liked the fish tacos...The chili... and the Texas Burger...(yummm Jalapenos!)
I will be back if I am around the neighborhood... probably will not be making a special trip though.
ooo ... I played darts and also lost that...(no kids to blame...just me)
I've been here a couple times. I like that it is really just a giant bar. No real restaurant seating, but tons of options. High tables, big tables, chairs around the fire, circular tables, and the giant bar. And you can order a little or a lot and not be bothered.
The first time I visited, it was prior to a show at Comedy Works. There was a taco type buffet. We did the sliders, and the wedge salad and the tater tots - I mean really, can you not order tater tots?
This time we started with the buffalo calamari - I'd say skip it - just franks red hot and butter over the calamari. For our meals I went with the shrimp po-boy - it said blackened shrimp - but it wasn't very blackened. The sauce was good though. Hubby went with the fried louie - reminiscent of Fat Burger with the fried egg on top. He really enjoyed it!
We were lucky to be there on Kahlua night! So I had a couple free drinks - yeah me!
The service was very good this time, the previous time they were a little over worked.
The bad thing with this time was the apparent lack of parental common sense. There were a number of families hanging around waiting for the light show. Definitely not a place to bring children, but one can't account for stupid people.
I like the location, good food, good service, and good beverage choices!
Corporate America Strikes again! Its a conspiracy I like Bar Louie! It must be the tater tots!
Its an above average sports bar with a trendy decor there are some booths in the back a fireplace and a couple of Pool Tables. There is a patio a nice big bar and a plethora of TVs they will even switch the channel to what you request! I know not a big deal because most bars wasting this much electricity on entertaining the drunk will do that!
Its in Northfield so its not overly busy as of yet but at a couple of happy hours it was filling up! They offer a huge selection of beers on tap and the usually expected alcohols and house drinks (yes the ones most bars charge 7-10 dollars for)! This bar is big enough that you can sit on the patio to be seen or find a corner for some privacy or cozy up the bar to watch subtitles on the latest Australian rules football game!
Food is run of the mill bar food they have some Cajun Dishes etc.. but its a bar that's like eating Seafood in North Dakota! So Ive basically stuck to the burgers wings etc nothing here stand outs. But I am a fan of the Tater Tots LOL maybe it the big kid in my but I love em!
Its a cool spot to drop in or hit the happy hour etc. located conveniently down the street from the Movies. The food wont knock your socks off but none the less worth a stop to hang or get away in the moments you have some time to kill!
Nina Storey was playing in Northfield and we had to eat. Â Incredible the number of people that eat. Â Anyway after 30 minutes wait, we were seated in the farther point possible which is just as fine. Â This place is not only huge and impersonal but also incredibly noisy. Â Had a burger, ok, well nothing great i did not finish it. Â A friend had a pizza with salad on top, great for the originality, not so great for the taste, he finished my burger...
i just won't go back.
When they say oversized sandwiches, they mean it! Â Never have lunch here or you'll pass out at your desk afterward. Â Well, I guess you can if it's alright with your boss to pass out at your desk. Â
I sure wish I could pass out at my desk.
They have outside seating if you're interested in an after work HH.
This is another Northfield Stapleton establishment. Right next to Harkins Theater, you'd expect it to be a great place to stop in for a pint before or after your movie.
When you enter, you can't tell if it's a sports bar or a martini lounge. In the end, it's neither, I guess. For one, it's HUGE, way too big to be a lounge. And there's dozens of big screen TVs hanging from the ceiling everywhere. If you can see them past the enormous lamps. I do mean enormous. But the fact that the TVs aren't actually turned to any recognizable sports and there's no sound, combined with the pseudo-loungy decor, means it's not really a sports bar, either.
Don't get too excited about the apparent wall of taps, or the list of draught beer on the menus: What they actually have on tap is on a board next to the bar. When I was there they had about 15 beers on tap, but the only ones worth drinking were Newcastle and Fat Tire.
The green booths we sat in were really dingy. This place is maybe a year old. I guess it's just the fabric they chose, it really shows the grime. And the cavernous feel means you feel a bit exposed, even in the booths.
There were tons of children there.
On the plus side, they have a couple of garage doors they can open to give it an airy outdoor feel.
In the end, it's an OK place to stop by for a beer on your way to something nearby, but there's absolutely no reason to go out of your way to visit this place.
