We went to this restaurant on July 4th after trying to get into other nearby restaurants and couldn't because of the lengthy wait. When we arrived we were told by the hostess that we could be seated right away and served our meal before the fireworks. I guess because the place was empty we should have figured something was wrong but decided to give it a try.
We sat down and our waiter came over and greeted us. We noticed right away his hygiene needed attention badly. His hair was long and greasy, he was sweating and actually had an odor. We should have at that point got up and left but we didn't. Â
We ordered our drinks and waited about 15 minutes before seeing our drinks or the waiter to order. He dropped the drinks off and said he would be right back. I tasted my tea and it was flavored tea , which I don't like. I had to go hunting for our waiter to change it out and he basically ignored me so I asked the hostess to help me. She returned again with flavored tea. When he finally came back over to take our order (30 min now) I told him about the tea, he suggested one of their soft drinks instead. I took it because that was basically all they had other than beer. We ordered our dinner and waited and waited and waited. It was now becoming funny. One hour later we received our meal BUT, someone else brought it to the table as our waiter was now ignoring us completely. The food was NOT good. We order fried jalapenos , hamburger ( that came out without the bun !! ) BBQ sandwich and fries. The ketchup is tomato paste out of the can. The Jalapenos were soggy and greasy. The hamburger was 9 dollar peice of overcooked meat with lettuce and tomato on top of it. The only half way decent thing was the cole slaw. We didn't even eat half of it. The bill was 47.00 dollars.
While we were in this restaurant, we witnessed our waiter constantly palming his nose ( no joke ) , we also witnessed him constantly taking his hand and wiping the sweat off his head. AND never washed his hands. We wanted to leave after we saw this , but figured we would have to pay for food that we didn't get due to ordering already. We were hungry and figured due it being July 4th we wouldn't get to eat if we left.
My husband woke up this morning July 5th with food poisoning. I would never recommend this place to anyone! Matter of fact, it should be shut down due to health issues with that one waiter alone!
If you like gastropubs, this is the place for you. Fresh, unique, high quality appetizers (try the Brie sticks), beautifully prepared entrees, and over 50 beers on tap with even more in bottles (Including the good stuff, like Southern Tier Choklat and Creme Brûlée). This place is great for craft beer lovers and all varieties of beer geeks. To top it all off, they have a couple of the best dessert items I've had in a long time: Bacon & Maple Sweet Waffles and Vanilla Bread Pudding! They're both mouthwatering. I definitely recommend giving this place a try, if even it's just for a beer or cocktail.
Review Source:This is going to be a quick fast review. My friends brought me there for their Happy Hour, which appears to be everyday 3-7. Great selection of beers, they are definitely keeping up on the latest drinking trends. In regards to the beer, my only criticism is basically on glassware. You have to serve certain beers in certain glasses. You can't serve a stout in a goblet. The proper glass is a pint. There are many little standards like that. You wouldn't serve a glass of Pommard in a plastic cup, would you? Â
In terms of food, we ate some deep fried oysters and some truffle fries. The fries were the standard presentation for Truffle fries, and the oysters were excellent. Normally, it is hard to deep fry mollusks, they usually come out really tough. I can't recall how many times I've eaten calamari and deep fried clams that are like eating a bunch of rubber bands. Â However, their oysters were so tender, they fall apart in your mouth.
Please come out to Barrel and Grain and enjoy yourselves.
This place is a must if you're looking for lunch or dinner in West Palm Beach! Tucked away from the insanity of Clematis St, B&G offers everything the other places nearby don't... A farm to table style meal that's made by hand and delicious. During my second visit, a friend and I each got the sausage sliders with fries for lunch (a special item), and after we each took a bite, we looked at each other in amazement at how good they were. The chef came outside to greet us and ask us how the food was. He explained how everything was made, including the hand cut fries and ketchup. The devil is in the details, but it sure pays off. Great craft beer selection, so be sure to check that out too. Let's keep this gem around, people!
Note to the management: When I had dinner there right after the place opened, the lighting seemed "off" for so late in the evening. It was very bright. Maybe it's just a matter of dimming the lights a bit? Just a suggestion. See you soon!
Not  awesome.
Creative menu and space but service falls so short, unless there is a major change in staff or training here... B&G is not going to make it.
Portions were small for the prices...however a few items were organic/local/grassfed meat, which is nice to finally see in WPB and worth a bit more.
During our visit, we were the only customers, and our lunch took an hour to arrive, with lots of mishaps from a waiter who clearly has never worked in the biz before. For almost $100, I was kicking myself for not going to Hullabaloo instead.
Always try new places in the area, but this was a 2 1/2 star at best.
We used to go to Gratify and this is no Gratify. Specials are on a blackboard, which is so hard to see, we had to get off bar stool an walk over to read it.  The pork tacos were a special and they were very good.  Fried jalepinos  was enough for three people and a lot of grease.  Fried Brie sitix had great potential but more than 1/2 of them had just batter and no cheese ....bummer. Drinks were fine and I' m sure that beer drinkers would be very happy.
Decor was depressing to me. Â Looks like an unfinished space and we were one of 5 people there. Not a good sign for a new place.
If you were a fan of chef Fritz, go to Hulabaloo on Clematis where he is working his magic.
Went there for first time for brunch. Â We were attracted to the $9 bottomless mimosa special but all agreed that the mimosas barely had a taste of champagne in them - if any. Â The food was good but overpriced - $16 for a hamburger competing with Grease burger around the corner is not how to lure in customers, especially when its predecessor Gratify was known for such great hamburger specials.
Review Source:Welcome to West Palm, Barrel & Grain. Â
Although we went for the soft opening which had a limited menu, I still feel that we got a good sense of what this new restaurant will offer. Â Â The decor is simple but striking with brick flooring and an open kitchen. Â The tables and chairs are mismatched which I personally enjoy because it feels homey, down to earth, and fun. Â Â The menu offered at the Soft Opening included small plates of items like chicken wings, fried jalapenos, and tacos mixed in with large plates that included steak and pork chops. Â
The food was served quick, which is not usually the case during a soft open and the staff was friendly and eager to hear any tips or pointers. Â
The beer menu was full of great selections that could please any palate. Â By the end of the night we had drank Ballast Point Sculpin, Evil Twin's Femme Fatale, Green Flash Hop Head Red, Bell's Black Note, & a few sips of a North Coast Barrel Aged Old Rasputin. Â
This restaurant has potential to be the a great spot for all of us beer geek foodies in  Palm Beach.
Parking is not the greatest but we did go on the same day as the boat show. Â A parking lot next door helps but I do not know what the cost is on a regular day and parking garages nearby were showing $5.
Best of luck guys.
