I think this place is great for what it is. A cheap and easy way to grab food and drinks before a game. Went before the hawks game yesterday and got what I expected.
Food is basically what you'd get in the stadium, but cheaper. Beer is cheap too- we had $4 coors. We didn't have to wait in line to get in, like the other bars in the area (west end, etc.). It's not fancy... I actually think the bartender was wearing sweatpants... But hey, if could wear sweatpants to work I would too.
I'll be back before a game.
Sitting in my car on a rainy winter night prior to a Bulls game I pondered where to pig-out. Yelp to the quasi rescue. I wasn't too familiar with the area surrounding the United Center, so I relied on Yelp to tell me what was nearby. Once I saw I was close to the Billy Goat, the decision was easy to make.
The food isn't going to blow your mind, but the Tavern is more of a required Chicago experience. It's a burger joint. Get the double and just listen to the sounds of the goat. The food is reasonably priced and beats spending $20 for a hot dog and beer inside the stadium.
