Tired of that big sports bar in Cromwell, so we looked for a new one and came here for the first time on Wednesday. Really excited about the $3 Stoli drinks on Wednesdays, especially that they were talls. We had a group of 4 at the bar and the food was really reasonably priced so we tried a few things. The wings were huge compared to ones I've had elsewhere; the Parmesan wings were fantastic if you like dry-rub. We also tried BBQ and the original hot wings and liked those as well. Our friend ordered the potstickers and you could clearly tell the food was fresh and not frozen. They also have a really cute pizza oven and a big selection of pizzas. We watched the Bruins game and it was nice to be able to hear the game and ourselves talking, because bigger bars can be pretty noisy in that respect. There was one female bartender working, I don't know her name, but she was so friendly and made great drinks. We'll definitely be back here to watch sporting events.
Review Source:I was here recently for a comedy show which is held in the back area that seems like it's typically a private dining room. Our group arrived early for drinks and dinner. Drinks were fine and so was the service. We moved into the back room for our dinner reservation, only to be greeted with "oh, you're really early but I guess we'll just seat you anyway." Kind of rude. We were seated and presented with a limited menu; we ordered an assortment of wings, calamari, and pizza as our entree. The wings were ok - crispy, but not much flavor, the calamari was cooked well, but had zero flavor, and the pizza was good. Our table also ordered several fish bowls (fruity drink in an actual fish bowl), which were surprisingly pretty good.
The comedy show was pretty decent considering a. you're in Cromwell, CT, and b. the tickets were under $20 each. There were two openers and the main performer, and I thought all three were not bad. After the show was over, we stuck around and went back into the bar area because the comedy room closed at the conclusion of the show. Turns out all of the people the comedians singled out in their shows (who sat throughout the room, but mainly in the front row) were planted there because every single one of those audience members were hanging out with the comedians after the show - they were all best buds. I thought that was disingenuous and fake, but certainly not the fault of the venue. All in all, the drinks were good, the food was below average, and the show was good.
I was recently at Billy Tee's & The Hideaway to see the band Locomotion. I had never been before, and arrived around 9pm to a fairly empty sports bar with a few people having dinner. I then headed to the back where The Hideaway is located. It's pretty much a small banquet room with a stage and its own bar.
The bartender really knew how to make delicious drinks. I asked him to make me his drink of choice each time I went up, and each drink was better than the last!
The band started a bit late, but the dance floor was packed and full of energy! It was a great evening of dancing and hanging out. The band is a local wedding band and knew exactly how to keep the crowd moving.
Some of the group got wings, which they swore were the best wings they've ever had. Definitely give them a whirl.
The tab at the end of the night was extremely reasonable. This is a great venue for people of all ages!
We ordered the Cyrina pizza which is an all seafood, white pizza. I was expecting something special since they have the wood-fire stove prominently displayed in the back corner. My first impression was, whoa garlic. I like garlic but this was bitter-garlic. The pizza was also a little soggy in the middle. Soggy mostly from olive & cheese oil. I will say that the outside crust was nice and soft.
I put parmesan shake cheese on my next 2 slices so counteract the oil and the crazy bitter garlic situation that was going on.
Usually if you give me cheese and bread in any form I'm happy as a clam, but I was disappointed by this pizza.
Our waitress was nice and attentive though, and even though its pretty much a beer and sports kinda restaurant , she knew what red wines to recommend. Their wine selection wasn't bad. They even carry a Malbec.
Disclaimer: Â i actually worked at billy tee's for, like, a minute, about 4 years ago. Â That experience has had 0 impact on this review. Â That said...
Best wings I've ever had- moist, crisp, and meaty. Â I always ask for extra sauce, but that's just me. Â In addition to mild and hot buffalo, the soyaki (kinda like teriyaki- which they also have- but more savory than sweet) and house-made bbq are delicious. Â Other apps include a monster quesadilla, pan-fried dumplings, nachos (eh), mussells (good), and calamari (good). Â Sandwiches are mostly classic (Reuben, turkey club, chicken blt) but well-crafted and generous in portion. Â Sweet and regular fries are on point. Â (Regular are seasoned and so so good...)
Pizza is a good portion of the menu, and they do have a wood-fired oven. Â The char is perfect- not too much- and the menu is interesting without being weird. Â Calzones are also made in the oven (calzone special on mondays: calzone for two is $12... a steal!) and are toothsome and yummy.
Happy hour (4-6 mon thru fri) consists of some draft specials and $2 off apps. Â For the area, a little disappointing, but the atmosphere and food will make it worth your time. Â There's a good amount of TVs, and the bar is composed of dark wood. Â This is definitely where you want to be for the upcoming season of football. Â Service is occasionally spotty, but you can't go wrong with Nicole. Â If she's working, consider yourself taken care of. Â Full bar with a good selection of drafts and bottles.
Stopped in here after a round of golf with some friends. Ordered a burger and fries. Nice size burger and good flavor! All 3 tap beers were cold! Lots of TVs with various games/sports on.
Cool seats on one side of the bar...all low riders, got to like that. I felt like I was in my living room!
Have been 3 times to Billy Tee's and the first 2 were great! Â However the past visit was horrific. Â
Busy Sunday crowd for football, however TV's were not tuned into the games. Â Tables were being occupied by staff computers, when people were looking for seats. Â Waitress never took a drink order, so we figured that is how the rest of the afternoon is going to go, so we left. Â On Sunday you need football on the TV and beers being served.
It was super crowded when we went in so we decided to sit outside. There were quite a few people smoking outside and it was gross. We ordered italian wedding soup- which I'm pretty sure came right out of a can and a pizza with proscutto and arrugala. Â It was very salty and drenched with olive oil. Meh. We haven't been back.
Review Source:Wow still great food although dead on the weekend when we go for an early lunch. Â The food is great but with just us 2 there, do the tv's need to be blasting? Â Dont think so. Â Will continue to go back and try different things. Â This time Tom had a sausage sandwhich which was great in an above average roll, and I had the steak sandwich which I wouldn't get again, was kind of chewey but the brushetta is still killa.
Review Source:Came with some friends to watch the US v. Ghana match. Â Had spme Sam's Summer Ale and the James pizza (shrimp, arugala and pancetta on white pizza). Â Delicious! Â The calamari appetizers were great and came out freshly breaded and piping hot, and the pizza was amazing. Â Service was fast and friendly.
I would probably come back, except I don't live in CT. Â Maybe I'm visiting the area.
My husband and I went last night and were very surprised. The atmosphere was cozy. The kitchen was tiny, yet very clean. The brick oven is beautiful and front row and center. We ordered the Noni pizza and were pleasantly surprised. The pizza was amazing. Pretty much the best I ever had. The service wasn't that great which was surprising considering we sat @ the bar. I definately recommend checking this place out  for the pizza alone!!!
