My friend and I came here for dinner about one week ago. I started out with a beet salad with a truffle dressing. It was nice, but could have used a little more of the truffle oil. The second dish I had was the scallops with mussels. Unfortunately, I bit into a large rock in my dish. The chef thought it was from a mussel. Thankfully, I didn't break a tooth or anything! Also, they took the dish off the bill. My friend got a hericot verts salad and gnocchi. She said they were both mediocre, and nothing special.
The service was not very good. The restaurant was not busy at all, and it took our server about 10-15 minutes to ask us what we wanted to drink! Also when our food came, our waitress never came and asked us how we liked our food.
I don't think I will go back, nor will I recommend the restaurant to friends.
We have eaten here frequently and, like many reviewers here, like the food and service very much. But Friday night, for the first time, we were seated in the dark, depressing room to the north of the glamorous, lively, very-well-lit main dining room. Worse, from our table we could see INTO the main room, so we were even more aware of how dreary a space we were eating in. Eating there was a total buzzkill - so if you see the host taking you there, stop them in their tracks. Â (And tip to the restaurant: at least close the curtain to that little storage room, I didn't pay $80 a person to look at your file cabinet all night.)
Review Source:Sometimes the cure to a slushy, gloomy day in Chicago is to have a nice, quiet dinner at a place like Bistronomic. Â The space is small so either make reservations or try out this place during non-peak hours so you don't feel rushed or overcrowded. Â
I've come here a few times and I'm surprised that I haven't reviewed it before?  Anyway, I've never been to France so I won't pretend to comment that it provides an authentic bistro experience.  Nonetheless, the menu is small but has a nice variety.  If you're a cheese lover, then this will be heaven for you!  The pate variety changes frequently.  I myself am a sucker for mussels and these ones were plump and were swimming in a perfectly seasoned broth full of wonderful spices.  For dessert, the creme brûlée is very distinct and is a must try. Â
The wine list is manageable and also offers a good variety; All in all a wonderful experience and worth a try when you're in the area.
