So, it's very blue inside. In terms of the coloring. ha The atmosphere is very "cool lounge" and suave. The room itself isn't huge, but it's a great spot for social drinking and listening to top hits. There's a small area for dancing situated between the DJ and bar. The one thing I was highly entertained by was that with every song the DJ chose, it's music video would be shown on all of the tvs. Let me tell you, I had hardly seen any of these music videos so that was somewhat enjoyable. ha
Don't expect drinks to be super cheap. They're middle of the road priced. They do have a great selection, though.
Looks are definitely deceiving with the size of this place.
Imagine having a bar in an average sized fast food restaurant b/c that's about how big it is if not smaller. The décor is nice just about everything is white w/ blue lighting. The drinks are average bar drinks nothing to write home about. If you were a person that easily becomes claustrophobic I would suggest you to stay away from here.
This place is just OK to me. I've been here a few times, mainly for drinks and dinner with friends and then once for a launch party. I really like the decor and feel of the place. It has kind of that South Beach lounge vibe to it, which you'd never guess because it's in the middle of a strip mall. On Thursdays, they have half price martinis. My personal faves are the appletini (I think that's what they call it), the cosmo, and the banana creme pie. The sushi isn't bad as well. I had a California roll and crab sashimi the last time I was there. The crowd is eh...it's Indy, people. Lots of wannabe socialites, cougars, and Ed Hardy wearing douchebags can be found here on a Friday night, not really any different from any of the other bars/clubs in the city. I hate that they allow smoking in this place, it really makes it difficult to enjoy your time there. Blu Martini is a pretty cool place to have a social event as well. A friend of mine had her launch party for her clothing line there back in September, and it drew a pretty good crowd. There was a fashion show, and the owner was very gracious and genuinely appreciates your business, and he will always let you know it. I'd recommend Blu Martini (or its sister 45 Degrees) for a nice dinner or drinks before going out. As the night goes on, it gets crowded and smoky and the music is way too loud, and therefore no longer fun.
Review Source:This place for the atmosphere was horrible. Â I was in there for about 30 seconds and had nothing but overdressed jersey shore..... You know and the techno music could be heard from a mile away so inside...was a no go for conversation wise and I just wasn't interested in the food or drinks at that point. Â White couches white tables white everything like being in a computer sensitive clean room. Â I'd rather go to hot box and buy box wine from the liquor store right next to it and have my own adventure at home... Blllaaaaahhh
Review Source:For our monthly "girls night out" we headed north to Blu Martini. We were especially excited for half price sushi (before 7pm).
I ordered a pomegranate martini (okay, 3 of them) and two different rolls: Fire Dragon and I think Dynamite. The Dynamite roll was REALLY spicy, which was pretty fantastic and surprising! The Fire Dragon roll was unfortunately overshadowed by the Dynamite roll and was somewhat flavorless. I also got two orders of nigiri, yellowtail and eel.
I guess I'm just spoiled by big city (Dallas, LA, San Diego) sushi, but I wasn't impressed. What I ordered should have been a ridiculous amount of food, but the rolls were very small. Maybe half price = half portion?
I was also a little surprised at the price of the drinks, but I guess maybe I shouldn't have been.
Overall - fair to middlin', although I probably won't be back.
So this was an interesting bar to go to....its a little north of the city. Much more chill than broadripple or downtown so that was cool. The crowd was a bit on the older side, seemed to be mostly suburbanites...and alot of  attractive housewives (cougars, milfs, whatever) haha... not surprising since Carmel is nearby.
The drinks are pretty good, along with the service. I wish indy had a smoking ban like other cities do, that was a bit annoying.
I like Blu Martini. Â The bouncer always welcomes me with a smile, the drinks are good, and the folks are entertaining. Â What else can you ask for. Â I have never eaten here but I have heard that they have pretty decent sushi. Â I know that they have very good martinis. Â The crowd is diverse, male, female, pumas, cougars..lol. Â
Good times to be had by all!
I loved this place! The decor is cool blues and white. Very "sex & the city" trendy spot. Went tonight with some coworkers and really enjoyed myself. Now I will have to admit I am not a Sushi connoisseur , but I really enjoyed the platter we ordered. We had about 50 pieces between 3 of us and, alas, sent the platter back empty outside of some extra wasabi & ginger slices. The plum wine sauce is TO DIE FOR!!! The Blue Martini rolls were my favorite,
This is one of the few smoking establishments left in Indy that offers food and it never felt heavy with smoke, the high ceilings and open floor plan really does keep the air moving, so don't be worried about the smoke, it really never even got to our table, which was right next to the bar.
The gauzy curtains around the "booths" gave you full view of people watching but left you with a great sense of intimacy. I really enjoyed this place,
The loss of a star really has nothing to do with the establishment, I just felt giving it five without a huge base of sushi knowledge could be a little misleading to someone that REALLY know what they're talking about.
I am addicted to downtown and the nightlife/restaurants, yet wanted to expand up north. I heard of Blu Martini and went one night about 8 pm on a Wednesday night. Not too busy but could see the private seating sections were already full. This is where I agree with Mia and Stephanie. It seemed to be made into a permanent 'hang out' for certain groups. The sushi was alright, must say though that the Blu Martini rolls are the best. I am definitely into the environment (lighting, bar, curtains, etc.), but I was hoping to find a difference from downtown and up north. I feel like the Blu Martini is lost from downtown and vice versa.
Review Source:I agree with Mia. This place seems to sort of have people who kind of stick together, look a certain way, and pose a bit. The bartenders though, seem nice. The environment is well done and beautiful, but it is the people that seem kind of fakey. Snob? I hate to use that word but like Mia's review it comes to mind in this place. There are some places that looked like this in Los Angeles, but there the people were more eccletic and unusual, really interesting people to talk to, and diverse.
I am not talking sexually diverse here, I mean just people from all kinds of cultures etc. of course that can be a hard draw in mid western Indianapolis, but there are places that have that here. The diverse part gets important in creating a cool bar/restaurant type place in my opinion. Is it the north side Carmel kind of thing going on? Not sure. I hear there will be one downtown soon, it might be great since this one has all the right parts and pieces with decent food/drinks, environment just not the unique quality that it needs to be really interesting and compelling.
Ecletic crowd - socialites to strippers, rednecks to rich snobs. It seems to be somewhat of a hangout for other people in the bar industry... everyone seems to know each other.
Without the blue lights, this place would look stark - all white walls and gauzy curtains draped randomly. The lights give it an ethereal quality. I love the art on the walls, too. It'd be cool if the servers/bartenders dressed in white rather than black - it's too much of a contrast, but that's just my nitpickiness moreso than an actual complaint.
The sushi is decent. Order it with soy paper - it's better than the seaweed they normally use.
The New York Strip with the new potatoes and asparagus has been great every time I've gotten it.
Can't complain about the martinis a bit... or the Voga Pinot Grigio.
The music is irritatingly loud too early in the evening - the DJ starts around 10:00 and goes from 0 to 60 with a bunch of oontz-oontz-oontz thumpy bass crap. It's not large or crowded enough to absorb the sound.
