Blue Star Bistro & Wine Bar

BACON. WRAPPED. DATES.  Enough said.  Nice place, good atmosphere, good food.

A nice neighborhood "go-to" when you want to break up the monotony of cooking and eating in.  

Wine: A-
They have a huge wine selection!  (Ok - obvious point has been taken care of.)

Food: B/B+
Delicious garlic shrimp appetizer, and a pretty good grilled chicken/baby spinach salad.  The mushroom flatbread was OK.  The crust didn't taste super seasoned, and was sort of cardboard-y.  The mushrooms had great flavor, however.  Not a total write-off.

Service: A-
Our server was friendly and attentive.  

I'll definitely go back again.

Went to dinner with friends on a Tuesday evening, didn't know much about it before getting there, and for being a wine bar, upon entering you see the barrels of which apparently wine is poured from, interesting. The bar has several beers and drinks to select from but I was looking forward to the food.

I quickly yelped the place before going there and read about different things to try, but wound up getting the butternut squash salad with toasted almonds, manchego cheese, and cranberries with vinagerette dressing and the duck confit risotto with gouda and pickled pear. I enjoyed the salad much more than the risotto, and they had a special with lobster risotto that my friend tried which was much better than mine :(  

What I did take from yelp was to try to fried nutella balls and those were just addicting. We were so stuffed by the time we left, the desert was just the right amount of sweetness after a great meal. The restaurant slowly filled up after we got there and there's tables right by the fire place which is where we were seated. I did think it was much better than I thought it was going to be, and maybe next time I'll actually try the wine bar!
