Saw their sign for a blackbean burger and thought I'd check it out. Â For six bucks, a fast food veggie burger needs to be good. Â It was ok. Â It had very few blackbeans in it, which was surprising, and mostly consisted of unidentifiable filler. Â Nothing remarkable. Â Certainly not worth the price. Â Unquestionably not worth twice the price of a regular burger. Â Also tried the fries. Â Bland and not very salty. Â Won't be back.
Review Source:I just started working in the Metro Park Complex. Â Walk to this strip mall and the first thing I see was a big sign for Boardwalk Fries and Burgers. Â I had to try it. Â I was pleasantly surprised. Â
First the location. Â It is very clean and well organized.
Second Service. Â Service was good. Â I placed my order and it was completed in a fairly fast time, taking into account all the burgers and fries are made fresh. Â They screwed up my order and added lettuce to my burger, something I did not order but ok, i took it out and put it on the side, no big deal. Â You get unlimited refills with your soda. Â All the additional condiments (salt, pepper, vineyard, etc) are conviniently placed next to where you pick your order.
Taste. Â The most important part. Â The burger tasted good. Â The bun had been toasted (not like the competition that only warms it). Â The burger was very juice. Â The fries were crispy in the outside and soft in the inside, with a great taste. Â They serve a lot of fries. Â If you are not a big fires eater you can share a small order of fries.
Overall is a great place and I am looking for more visits. Â Specially when they give you a coupon for $2.00 of in your receipt.
I am definetely willing to pay the extra $ when the burgers are freshly hand formed and fries are freshly cut in the morning. Does it get any better than that???
Burgers are juicy with so many options for toppings and sauces. Not to mention the heaping of fries they serve you. They are perfectly cooked with the salty and crunchy outside. Then waiting for you on the inside is the soft warm potato-ey goodness. Ah, and Paired with a milkshake, it hurts so good!
Also, service is always fast and efficient there. Love it!!
O Snap! A boardwalk fries in this area??? AWW YEAHHHH
I come here once in awhile when I want a good burger and some fries.
The place is clean, and the service is really good. They also give coupons with your receipt to keep me coming back for more artery clogging goodness.
The burgers are good and made to order, similarly to Five Guys.
Fries are hot, fresh cut, and crispy as to not spoil the reputable name of "boardwalk fries".
For dessert, you can even order funnel cake fries! MMM
I guess a lot of the excitement came from seeing a "Boardwalk Fries" sign in this neighborhood shopping center, and was happy to know that this restaurant upholds the same quality!
so good! they are similar to 5guys, but with more options. I like their chicken tender sandwich and my boyfriend always gets the bbq bacon burger. we always get the fries and add old bay. We have gotten the funnel cake fries and they are AMAZING! Reasonably priced and many times coupons on the reciepts.
Review Source:I was so excited when my husband called to tell me he found a place that served boardwalk fries. So, today we went to visit and I'm sorry but I was very disappointed with the fries! They were cold and heavy, nothing like the boardwalk fries I have come to love. I must say the double cheese Burger i got was good, but my husband thought it was tasteless, but then again he enjoyed the fries. So there you have it, to each his own:)
Review Source:We had a coupon for buy one burger, get one free, so we decided to stop here on the way home from work one night.
The restaurant had some sticky floors, and wasn't that well-decorated, but then again, it was a burger joint.
I ordered a make-your-own burger with the fixings and a chipotle/ranch sauce mix, and my husband got the blue cheese burger. They had a lot of toppings - similar to Five Guys. But, one thing that did set them apart from Five Guys were the choices of sauces (mix the chipotle and ranch!) and the option for a wheat bun. The burgers were good - and reasonably priced - $4 for a one patty burger.
We also ordered fries and the funnel fries. The fries were okay, but they do offer Old Bay seasoning and salt/vinegar for them! The funnel fries are delicious! We ordered a regular size of 12, and much to our waistline's dismay, we devoured them.
All in all, Five Guys is probably still at the top of my list, but this is a decent alternative, and also, a good deal with a BOGO burger coupon. We paid $13 with the coupon for a drink, two burgers, a regular order of fries, and a regular order of funnel fries.
Another 5 guys clone, or alternative if you will.
On the pricy side, 4ish for a burger, fries are separate (split a small with your love one or friends) 2-4$, drinks are nearly 2$.
Stays true to it's Ocean City fame, and provides Old Bay seasoning to go with the fries, fresh grilled patties. The fries are pretty lacking in taste, which helps that there is plenty of Old Bay to go around.
Burgers were good, but the beef quality cannot match that of 5 guys leaving them behind the leader.
Solid 3.5 stars.
A great contrast to five guys...boardwalk burgers not quite as good as five guys but very close and the topping selection is outstanding!!!
But the reason you come is for the fries which are excellent!!! Best fries from a burger joint in the greater DC area
Reasonable prices and friendly efficient service
I wish I could 3.5 stars because nothing really stood out. Â What stood out was the great customer service! Â I've been here 4 times now. Â The first time my order was lost in the shuffle, and I was given a complimentary burger for my next visit. Â The staff are all so friendly. Â The burgers are OK and I think they need a lil bit of salt or something. Â It wasn't quite as tasty as 5 Guys but close. Â The fries in my opinion were too crispy. Â At first, I thought they were processed till I saw a poster on the wall saying they were freshly made. Â The fries were large but the crispiness reminded of Burger King fries. Â They are good though especially with the Old Bay. Â I would have preferred malt vinegar compared to some type of vinegar they had. Â Overall, this is a decent place to go.
Review Source:Great place to blow your diet! Â I literally could not stop eating the funnel cake fries...I had to force myself to toss them in the trash before I permanently imprinted a couple of dimple into my ass!
Burgers are good. Fries are better. Â Not quite as good as Five Guys, but a good contender for the neighborhood.
Solid as Sears, I eat here every weekend and they make a great chicken sandwich. Get the grilled version which is juicy and tender. The fries are awesome, I re-heat the left over fries in the toast oven later in the day and they are money. Oh and they have Coke on tap, and the fountain drinks are perfect.
Review Source:I wanted a burger and decided to stop here. Â I knew their fries were decent b/c of their stands in Ocean City, MD. Â The burger blew though, completely lacked taste. Â I'm not one to turn down food but I only ate about a quarter of it. Â If you're craving fries I'd say pop in but if you want burgers and fries keep on goin to Five Guys.
Review Source:Note: My review is for the Springfield VA location. I'm not sure why it's not listed in Yelp. Anyway, I feel a need to patronize my local restaurants, but when you do that, you take the bad with the good. In this case, the bad would be Boardwalk Fresh Burgers & Fries. They're not lying-the burgers are fresh. I didn't have any fries. 1400 calories from my double burger are enough for anyone. The place is clean too. That's about all I have to say on the positive side. Oh, my burger was cheap, really cheap, under $5 for a double burger. On the other hand, it was very well done, gray, and dry. The whole wheat bun was dry too, making for a dry dry combo that no condiments could save.
I'll pass next time. It's only 3 more miles to Five Guys, and I'd give them at least 1 more star. Their burgers are moister, and much tastier.
This place is great! I go here for lunch all the time and I love everything about it except their buns! Its very thick. Other than that their fries are amazing, and so are their burgers. You can customize your burger with a ton of free toppings and they also offer malt vinegar and old bay for fries.
To sum it up, boardwalk is like a healthier (still not healthy) version of five guys without the free peanuts.
Also, save your receipt because if you come back with it, fries are free with a burger purchase (not sure how long this promotion lasts but my receipt is good until 8/31/11)
Fyi...Burger + fries + drink = $7.50
I came here the other day with low expectations as I was dissapointed with the last burger I ate (Fuddruckers...which is normally my favorite burger).
When I entered the store, I noticed that the prices were very reasonable (cheaper than fuddruckers and comparable to five guys). Â
I went ahead and orderd the Mushroom Swiss Hamburger, with a side order of fries. Â After taking the first bite, I could tell the hamburger patty was of pretty good quality (not like McDonalds and Burger 7). Â The cheese was perfectly melted and the burger patty was cooked just right (well done, but moist, bursting with a smoked flavor). Â
Sizewise, the burger patty was noticeable bigger than the standard five guy's burger patty (hence making this a better value). Â The hamburger's here are definitely a must, while the fries are pretty good as well (the old bay seasoning and vinegar are a nice touch that make me feel like I'm at the beach).
After eating here my current burger rankings in the NOVA area are as follows:
1. Boardwalk Burgers and Fries
2. Fuddruckers
3. Five Guys
I still need to check out Ray's Hell Burgers, the Burger Joint, and the Burger Shack.
I'm not such a big fan. Â It felt like a rip off on Five Guys who can't be topped. Â The portions were way too large and the burger was dry. Â I also found it to be pricey. Â My two children split one kids meal because of the amount of fries they got. Â After looking around the place there seemed to only be one type of person there. Â Fat men. Â Maybe it was the time of day but it didn't seem to have all types of foodies who went out of their way to come eat a great burger. Â The price of food must have paid for their flashy store front.
Review Source:A pretty standard burger place. Nothing too spectacular to write home about though. I tried out their chicken platter which was more of a fry platter with a side of chicken. You got to choose two sauces and the chipotle was very good. I definitely recommend the funnel cake fries for dessert!
Review Source:They have good burgers. Â They definitely are on the greasy side but what good burger isn't. Â They have a greater variety of burgers to choose from like the mushroom swiss to the bleu cheese burger. Â They also have chicken tenders and toppings for their fries. Â The quality of their fries and burgers is comparable to Five Guys. Â I wouldn't go out of my way to eat a Boardwalk burger but would stop in if in the area again.
Review Source:Ok I think the effort to improve on 5 Guys is quite obvious... which is fine, I'm not a fan of 5 guys. Â
Now I've had the chipotle chicken sandwich the last two times i've had lunch there. Â Flavor is good and the service is always prompt. Â I'm a fan but its not the best place for a quick meal I've been...and as usual they are Boardwalk fries.. a staple in the mid atlantic if you've ever been to the beach!!
I arrived around 11:30AM on a weekday and had no trouble finding parking right outside the restaurant in the same strip mall it's located in. Â There was nobody in line so I walked right up to the register and the lady greeted me with a wonderful attitude.
I ordered the standard cheeseburger with ketchup, mustard, onions, mushrooms, pickles, and bbq sauce (yeah, I like sauces). Â The cooking timing was decent - took about 10 minutes. Â The burger was delicious, but unfortunately not as delicious as 5 guys. Â Not as greasy as 5 guys either, but I doubt there is much of a health difference between the two establishments' meals.
I did notice they loaded up on fries. Â I mean, I could barely get the burger out of the bag because there were so many fries spilling out of the cup they put them in. Â For a fry-lover like me, I was ecstatic. Â The fries were also fresh in the sense the make each individual order of fries, and they also use peanut oil, which in my opinion makes them taste so much better. Â I'll definitely be going back for more lunches when I have that burger craving.
One of the best burgers I have ever eaten. Â I would even go so far as to say that they are better than In 'n Out or Fatburger. The chicken tenders are also great. I still don't get why burger establishments around here need to put out peanuts for people to eat while they wait (e.g. Five Guys as well). But oh well, I'm here for the burgers and fries. Â I strongly recommend this place for a quick bite to eat. It's always clean inside the restaurant and I can place my order within minutes of arriving at the restaurant.
Review Source:This place is a prettier version of Five Guys Burgers without the good flavor of Five Guys.
Nice interior space and the food was ok but not stellar by any means. Â You are still investing around $11 for a burger/drink/fry.
Eerily appears to be the same business model of Five Guys down to the peanuts. Â Not bad but I won't be returning.
Count me as a fan. Went to get a haircut in manchester lakes last month, and saw a sign for Boardwalk Fries/Burgers, so decided to have lunch there. It's located on the corner of the shopping center, tons of parking. Inside, plenty of seating area, very clean and prompt.
I ordered the standard size cheeseburger with mushrooms, asked for light mayo and usual fixings, and of course some fries.
The order took about 5 minutes, and I noticed the fries were placed in the fryer for individual orders, meaning, i didn't get stale fries like typical fast food joints. Also, like 5 guys, Boardwalk offers free peanuts to munch on as u wait.
Now, the burger is ready, and I begin to eat. First thing i notice, portion of fries is massive. Secondly, they are not overly salted. Just right.
I unwrap the burger and it's piping hot. Â 8oz of beef (2 patties), perfectly cooked (medium well), with cheese perfectly melted. Â The bun was toasted slightly, which made it hold up pretty well w/ the weight of the burger. Â It tasted amazing. Â For the price, location, and excellent freshly made fries, i am definitely coming back . Â Glad to see a nice burger joint in kingstowne.
Boardwalk now has "fry burgers" where they toss french fries on top of the burger. Â I'm pretty much a fan of anything where you put extra carbs (bonus points for fries) on top of something. Â Bump up to three stars for this new offering. (it may have always been there, but I just found it).
Review Source:Yay! I'm a fan. Â Not being a huge fries fan (they're all right but even when thin and perfectly cooked --see Mike's American-- all I want are just a few). Â I've always really hated the malt vinegar thing...for me the worst part about fries at the beach and at Redskins games at RFK. Â But those days are long gone.
The previous week I had tried one of the new burgers at Jerry's in the same Manchester Lakes/Shopper's/Fiesta shopping center. Â I ordered a "little cheeseburger" Â with onions, jalapenos, lettuce, tomato, ketchup, mustard and mayo. Â It had two patties which tasted sort of gamey and a bun which was not up to the task. Â Not bad though and $4.49.
So last week I tried the Boardwalk Fries "little burger." Â Just under $3 without cheese, but you can pick whatever you want from the following toppings:
Â
  *  Lettuce
  * Tomatoes
  * Mayo
  * Onions
  * Fried Onions
  * Ketchup
  * Mustard
  * Pickles
  * Relish
  * Sauteed Mushrooms
  * Green Peppers
  * Jalapeno Peppers
  * Chipotle Sauce
  * Ranch
  * Honey Mustard
  * BBQ
  * A-1
  * Blue Cheese
  * Hot Sauce
  * Buffalo Sauce
  * Chili
Did the same toppings as at Jerry's for comparison. Â The patty was really good. Â They have a sign that says the beef is always fresh not frozen and I could tell. Â The jalapenos were actually hot!!! Â Amazing! Â And good! Â Lots of onions and the bun was tasty and substantial enough to hold up until the final bite.
I had some peanuts while I waited. Â I always like this little perk, and, hey, Five Guys does it too.
My conclusion is that if you want a good little burger for under $5 at Manchester Lakes, go for the Boardwalk Fries one. Â You'll even have enough money left over to buy something at the Dollar Store next to Shopper's.
I have always been a fan of Boardwalk fries. Â Back in the day, Landmark mall used to have the Boardwalk fries in their food court and people would go there just to get a big cup o' fries. Â Big cup o' fries + Pocket Change (the arcade at the time) = happy fat kid.
Now, I'd like to take the time to beg for forgiveness for cheating on Five Guys. Â I saw a more attractive younger burger and decided to give it a go. Â I should have known better than cheating on Five Guys. Â The burger at Boardwalk was smaller, less juicy, and didn't hold up as well in the sack. Â Not something I look for in my burgers (or women). Â Definitely not as satisfying as Five Guys, but basically the same price. Â I like the fries here better though. Â The fries are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Â They also have a hint of sweetness and flavor that doesn't have to be enhanced with "cajun" spices. Â I still have yet to try their funnel cake.
The place is relatively new and is still pretty clean. Â The perfect meal for me would include a couple of roast beef sandwiches from the Roy Rogers next door, a huge cup o' Boardwalk fries, and wash that down with a Boardwalk funnel cake. Â If you want shakes and/or ice cream, you can get it from the Roy Rogers. Â Now that I think of it, that sounds good... time to make a road trip.
I had a cheeseburger and fries. The burger was OK, but not very memorable. Their topping and sauce selection is better than most places, but their buns are ordinary, and mine was a bit stale. The fries were good, but a little greasy (which is common for boardwalk-style fries). Â The price was a little high for this stye of restaurant - almost $10 for a cheeseburger, small fries, and a soda. Â
If my choice was this place or a McDonalds/Wendy/Burger King, I'd choose Boardwalk. Â However, if you throw Five Guys into the mix, I wouldn't choose Boardwalk.
I visited this newly opened restaurant with my coworkers today. It's been under construction for a while and we've been looking forward to a new place to eat. We weren't disappointed. The restaurant is brand new so it looks great with the bright decor and wall graphics. They had a good amount of indoor seating as well as a few tables outside. The line was up to the door when we arrived but with only two registers, they managed to move the line pretty fast. Total wait-time in line was around five minutes. After you place your order, expect to wait another good five minutes. The food is cooked to order so you know it's freshly made and not sitting under hot lamps. We all ordered the 7 oz boardwalk burger with fries as well as some of their funnel cake fries. The burgers were perfect. Two large patties cooked to perfection. I added American cheese to mine for an extra .60 cents. Bacon is also available for the same price. All other toppings are free. The fries tasted just as great as the ones I've had in Ocean City. For an additional .75 cents each, they also have chili, cheese and gravy for your fries but I decided to stick with the Old Bay which they have containers on their tables. The funnel cake fries were excellent. Just like being at the beach. No combo meals are available, so your bill can add up pretty fast. Expect to easily pay at least $10 for a burger, fries and drink. If you add some extra toppings or get a larger size of fries, you can reach $15. They also have chicken, hot dogs and a couple salads to choose from. They have a kids menu with three meals to choose from, grilled cheese, hot dog and chicken tenders. Overall we were very pleased and will return in the future.
