    We were invited as a special treat to the much touted Bobo's.  Naturally, we were excited and looking forward to the experience.  Imagine the let down when we pulled up to the entrance to the Travel Lodge and a dumpy looking building to the left.  Okay, you cannot judge a book by its cover. . . .

    We waited outside, along with two other parties, while the hostess got her act together.  We were led up a narrow, dirty carpeted staircase lined with appallingly ugly, dusty looking memorabilia. to our table with a view (a motel across the way)  and crammed into a claustrophobic booth (we did like the privacy).  The restaurant is badly in need of a thorough cleaning and an upgrade to the decor.

    The food:  We ordered onion rings (Mel's dinner better), petit filet mignon and the bone in  filet mignon, their signature dish.  Starting with presentation, if it means anything to you, well, the small portion of meat sat alone in the middle of the plate without any attempt to present it attractively.  There was no garnish whatsoever to break the austerity of the presentation.  I have to say the meat was cooked to perfection, medium rare, as requested, however, it was flavored by what I would describe as a mild stilton cheese which would be fine, but should have been offered as a side, if one prefers the actual flavor of the meat, which I do.   Even though they are famous for their steaks, we have had superb and much better steaks at Lark Creek, Ruth Chris and, of course,  Mastro's.   The side orders were extremely small and absolutely unremarkable.  The mac and cheese only rival would be Kraft's., we did not finish it.   The Brussel sprouts were okay.  Much too pricey for a mediocre meal.

    Our server, though competent, was cool, aloof and somewhat snobbish.  We had difficulty getting water when needed.

    Now, all this aside, we had a wonderful time because of the people we were with.  We will go out with them again and again, but not to Boboquivaris.

    Down on Lombard Street;
    Bone-in filet gets my vote;
    Sad it's a la carte

    Bobo's name isn't obvious since their electronic signage is in korean.

    it's been a while since i  ventured inside. the clientele is exclusively korean. patrons are addressed in korean. hostesses are korea immigres.  payment is accepted in u.s. dollars, not korean wons.

    as i recalled. drinks pricey. doubt they made many cocktails. the drink of choice in korean bars is usually beer, cognac, or  (johnny walker)  whiskey.
