To add to my last review... Not good!? They have great food but unlike other Asian places VERY cheap with there portions!! I brought it to their attention about my Mongolian Beef being ALL onion- which had happened before and you'd think I'd learn, but nooooooo!! So I order it again because it very good but what maybe 5 strips of meat and the rest all onion!?? I complained to our waitress and she said well that's the way we do it!? No more beef, nothing!? You should have enough to take home and enjoy it later not barely have enough to eat while there dining!! Don't think we'll be back! Now my search for my local Chinese place continues!!

It's hard to miss the sign, but up close I though the place was closed. It wasn't, walked in and pretty bare, But the dining was clean and pleasant. Got seated along wall and bench had pillows, most likely per request bc it def hurt my bumbum. Gyoza was good, cabbage in the egg rolls was kraut-ish. Sauces were sweet and fruity without much bite.

Service was great, apps came out fast as lightening. I even asked for two different fried rice options to be combo'd (shrimp and Veg). My boo ordered sushi and he said it was good, but it came out so fast that he pretty much finished before i got my dish so they probably could have timed that better.

Sooo I get my food and I asked for extra spicy (an option on the menu) and i think they thought i said no spice...bummer. Also shockingly, the shrimp was slightly uncooked. i don't play that game and since my boo already ate, i boxed it to go and went home and cooked the shrimp and added cayenne, no foolin'

Astonishingly terrible.
We stopped in here for a quick bite before a movie - we had over an hour before we needed to leave for the theater, so figured we'd have plenty of time for some good asian food.
Boy were we wrong, about the length of time and about the quality of the food ... and the service. All of them were so, so bad - and truly without ANY redeeming qualities!
We walked into what looked like a fast-food ordering counter, where we were ignored by two separate employees as they were on the phones, for several minutes, until someone finally came over and showed us to a table (in a nearly empty dining room). We ordered drinks initially (just green tea and an iced tea) - the waitress brought them back several minutes later and commented that most people don't like the iced green tea, b/c it tastes 'weird' (lol). We asked her to bring some edamame and we'd be ready to order soon.
15 minutes later, we get our edamame (which were the worst I've had in awhile, though I'm not sure how you mess up steamed soybean pods...) and she leaves AGAIN without taking our order. We finally flag her down and place our order (after more odd comments about how most people don't like dark meat in their sesame chicken, so she'll have them replace it with white meat). 15 minutes pass ... the appetize we'd ordered finally comes out. Another 15 minutes pass (we're down to only 15-20 left before we have to leave) with no sign of our waitress nor our food - we track her down and she tells us it will be right out.
5 minutes later, she brings one of our dishes (Sesame Chicken - which was about a cashew-size piece of chicken in a large-golf-ball-sized amount of breading) ... and still no sign of my dinner. Finally, 5 minutes before we need to walk out the door, she comes out with my dinner, sets it in front of me, and the only thing both of us can say is - slime. It was a big bowl of slime! I ordered the Basil Thai Eggplant with chicken - and what I received was mushy eggplant and mushy chicken, coated in some sort of sauce that looked and tasted primarily like SLIME.
We paid our WAY overpriced bill and left without eating much of the sesame chicken, and one bite of my slimy eggplant.
Suffice it to say - we will NOT be returning, and we recommend you save yourself the money and the disappointment.

Good sushi, especially for a combo plate, and a generous value. The deluxe combo included maguro, maguro bincho (white tuna), sake, smoked salmon, unagi, ebi and hamachi AND a spicy tuna roll (cut, not handroll). All good except for a very tired ebi and rice was a bit falling-aparty versus standard. Included -- miso soup (ok) and small salad (mango dressing will be a personal taste item - too one-dimensionally sweet and gooey for me, would have liked some sour or hot accent to alleviate it). I should mention the artistic presentation of the sushi... very nice.

Tried eggroll, bland, meh. If you have kids and they demand it, ok.

I will have some 'splainin' to do about this, my wife is a microbiologist... sushi is pretty much on the NO list... I even waited a full day to review to make sure I didn't get any obvious (but sadly not the worst, they take awhile to be known) after-gifts. Couldn't help it, I'm traveling in the land of suburbia americanus having a seizure known as "mall and chain"... thank goodness for yelp and yelpers finding the holes in stripmall walls that are worth trying!

The room and service are indistinct.

If sushi is on your OK list, Bok Choy is a good bet. I will probably go back and focus on cooked items, of which they offer a good selection.

We went for lunch and the portion sizes were tiny and don't get the Honey Walnut Shrimp, it doesn't have honey sauce but tasted and looked like the shrimps were covered with mayo and nuts and I didn't even finish it because it was so bad plus the fried rice was plasticky tasting which indicates cheap oil. The crab rangoons were full of cream cheese and had hardly any crab in them and the egg rolls were nothing special either. We will definetly not be going back. There was also an irritating customer who was allowed to go in and out of the dining room numerous times making noise and then he set up a laptop and didn't even order any food, but was just using his computer the whole time which made no sense because this place is supposed to have a nice serene atmosphere (just look at the picture). Horrible food and experience, skip it.

Not sure why everyone else thinks so highly of this place, because the sushi they serve is absolutely sub-par!

For example, the 9 piece sushi deluxe dinner comes with 4 nigiri topped with SMOKED SALMON, IMITATION CRAB, COOKED SHRIMP, and EEL... This isn't sushi, it's just filler!

To make matters worse, the cooked shrimp was actually fishy, and had to be spat out...

On the other hand, their Chinese is half-way decent, just not worth a long drive for, coupon or no coupon.

Verdict: Order the Chinese if you must, but stay away from their sushi.

LOVE love love this place!! It looks like an Industrial strip mall with the trucks parked in front , but it is a hidden diamond!!!! Fresh seafood, agedashi tofu--yummy!..the specialty rolls--great stuff!! I actually like the ambiance. ;o) Not for all people to be honest. My friends found it too quiet and hushed. I enjoyed it--very zen.

My experience at Bok Choy was a study in contrasts that can be broken down into a good/bad list. Let's get the bad out of the way first, shall we?

Bad:
1. When I walked in to pick up my takeout order, I was greeted by a grumpy employee. I told him I was there to pick up my order, and he nodded at the takeout counter and gruffly said "Give him a few minutes." Something along the lines of "He'll be right with you" would have been more appreciated since I was hardly pounding on the counter and screaming "WHERE'S MY FOOD?"

2. I ordered the chicken pad thai and asked that they make it spicy. It wasn't the best pad thai I've had (I confess to being a pad thai snob - my favorite is at Thai Happiness), but it was by no means the worst. The only thing that confused me was that I also had tofu in my pad thai. At least, I think it was tofu. It kind of looked like an egg cake, but there were also scrambled eggs in there, so that wouldn't really make sense either. But hey, it was solid pad thai.

The good:
1. The second employee I came in contact with was a stark contrast to the first person I met. The guy working the takeout was upbeat, enthusiastic and seemed genuinely happy to be there. He packaged my food quickly and handed it over with a smile. I wish some of his attitude would rub off on the other worker. :)

2. I ordered my meal online. I love being able to do that! The ordering system was fast and simple and offered the ability to customize my dish (I had them add spiciness). I think I also got a small discount for ordering online.

So, it's a draw. I'll definitely be giving them another chance based on the second employee's great service and the fact that it was so easy to order food from my phone. I look forward to providing an updated review!

This is my husband and my favorite place for sushi. The sushi is high quality and the sashimi is delicious. Prices are also reasonable. One note - skip the miso soup.

This Bok Choy restaurant used to be just a take out only. Now a small but cute place. The location isn't the best which may be the reason for so few patrons even on this Friday night. Sushi was very good as was the Pad Thai. Very attentive wait staff. Nice sushi bar seating.

We visited Bok Choy a few months ago on a http://restaurant.com certificate. Enjoyed the sushi very much!
Then last night we went back and tried a few entrees and were very happy with the food. It is fresh and very flavorful.
I had the chicken stri-fry and it was delicious. The veggies were very fresh and I liked that I could choose the 4 ingredients that went into the dish.
Try the firecracker shrimp appetizer- it's alot like crab rangoon, only better!
The plum wine is great, too. They have 3 varieties; we tried 2- and loved them both.

Our server was good. Maybe not the most social, but he was attentive.

The atmosphere is quiet and the decor is nice- nothing real fancy, but pleasing.. Location is just W of Promenade Mall (N side of street) in a non-descript strip-mall.
They have take-out, too.
We will definitely be going back...it's a hidden gem.

Bok Choy is hands down the best Chinese restaurant in Bolingbrook. At first I was a little weary because the restaurant is in a shady looking strip mall, but hey, nobody's perfect. I can't say enough about how much I love this place. First off, they don't use MSG, which is great because that stuff gives me horrible migraines. Also, everything I've ever eaten here has been fabulous. My favorite menu item is the Hawaiian fried rice (it tastes lighter than your standard fried rice). My husband loves the Singapore Rice Noodles. Their sushi is also phenomenal. As a tip, stop by on Tuesday nights for half price sushi. You may have a longer wait (there's only one guy making the sushi) but it's worth it. The sushi chef is always very personable and fun too. I've eaten at the restaurant (which is surprisingly small) and also had delivery and the food is always spot on.

First impression: The hidden, somewhat seedy strip mall and spartan decor of Bok Choy gave pause and fostered the initial desire to flee to a nearby Promenade restaurant. I am very glad I stayed.

In time, the initial impression of a plain, fast-food environment gave way to feeling the pleasing 'zen' of the place. But what really stood out was the food.

Since the place is small, I got a good look at everyone's meal and it all looked delicious! I was impressed with both the presentations and portions. On Yelper J.C.'s recommendation, I ordered the sushi sashimi combination. What was served were literally slabs of fish, not the usual skimpy slices. It was the best 'quality sushi' value I've ever had. And it was under $20!!! We also had two specialty rolls which were equally delicious and sizable. As per previous reviews, the salad dressing was pretty gross.

One big negative was the server. There was only one but, at most, he was working three tables at a time. His style was indifferent and notable for his long abcenses. Dinner took way too long and drinks went unfilled just because we couldn't get him to our table. Diners came and went as we awaited our entrees. I don't really fault the restaurant for this, but I certainly fault him.

This was a superior experience overall and I will certainly be back...maybe today!

I have had take out from Bok Choy and have been quite impressed each time. Tonight, I ordered the "Sushi Sashimi Dinner Combo" which came with 10pcs Sashimi, 6pcs Nigiri (which included Saba, Tako, Unagi, Ebi, Smoked Salmon. The only pc I did not like was the Krab Stick.) It also came with a large Miso soup and Salad. All for under $20, including tax. You cannot find a better deal anywhere.

In the past, I have also ordered their Thai, Chinese and Appetizer offerings and have been just as impressed!

The only negative is that I never liked their salad dressing.

I was also wondering if they were BYOB due to my specific taste in Sake.

My coworkers and I were having a little trouble finding an Asian restaurant in the area for lunch, and came across a pleasant surprise. I wasn't sure what to expect, but they have a lot of options for lunch specials for $6.95 or so which was awesome. I started out with the Mexican sushi roll which was pretty decently sized and quite tasty for $5. I also got the Yaki Udon special. You get a choice of an egg roll, crab rangoon, or a salad. Some other specials give you a salad and then an option between the other two fried items. The Yaki Udon was a very creative idea that I had not every had before. I love yakisoba noodles and udon noodle soup, and it was like they combined the two and it was pretty awesome. My coworkers meals all looked fabulous as well. The service was ok, and it's good to know a spot to come to if I'm every back in Bolingbrook.

I've ordered take out almost a dozen times, never dined in, and I would recommend Bok Choy as a good Asian restaurant in the area.

I've tried the tuna sashami with rice several times, where they give a pretty large portion of raw tuna. That is a nice deal and definitely worth it.

We've also ordered the beef noodles, several different appetizers, and shrimp with lobster sauce, which are all pretty good. A bit unhealthy with fried food and the salty sauce, but having it every once in a while is ok.

Another good thing is that they offer coupons to use, where you can get free extra food.

Bok Choy was a convenient stop for Pan-Asian dining on the way to the Promenade in Bolingbrook, so my boyfriend and I stopped in on Friday night for dinner.

We ordered the appetizer of firecracker shrimp (thanks to a suggestion from yelp!), which were an unusual take on the crab rangoon idea: cream cheese and jalapeno rolled with a shrimp in a wonton wrapper and deep fried. Original and tasty!

For entrees, I got the Mongolian beef (sometimes it's not spicy, here it is), with lots of onions and scallions. He got the pancit noodles (thin noodles with pork and shrimp). We both enjoyed.

Service was good, even fun (the waitress was young and professional, and the sushi chef over across the way was calling out to the loud table [who'd ordered sushi] in a playfully irascible manner).

Only two complaints:

- the rice that came on the side with my dish was pretty sticky, almost like sushi rice, and the gummy texture was just weird.

- the restaurant is small, only a handful of tables, lots of angles and flat surfaces, and noise glances off them all. If there are tables of LOUD people sitting next to you (as there were by us), the noise will echo all over the place. Argh!

I might brave the potential for noise to snag a taste of firecracker shrimp again.

I have been ordering delivery from Bok Choy since they first opened in Bolingbrook. The value is the best around. I normally get my large order delivered within 20-30 mins. Very Fast!

The prices are very good for the quaility of the food which is mostly fresh. The portions are good, not skimpy. I order house fired rice which is always cooked to my liking (dark and a bit salty, with plenty of egg, and meat). The egg rolls are second rate, but the firecracker shrimp is just marvelous and a rare treat.

The main courses (usually stir fry, or sechewan chicken), are fresh and flavorful. The menu is somewhat non-traditional (and lacking some of my favorite dishes), especially with online ordering, but I love to come home from work, hop on the PC and order, and within 30 mins I'm eating decent food! The delivery service is great!

I have noticed some recent changes in portions and flavor of some dishes and will update this review if needed.

There is better, more expensive chinese food in Bolingbrook but for a great value for a delivered hot family meal Bok Choy is tops!

As much as I would like to love this place because the prices are great, I absolutely hate their sushi. I have eaten there 3 times now hoping it would get better but it just doesn't.

The problem is the rice they use on their sushi is to sweet. The sweetness over powers everything else and plus they over cook it and put to much rice on the roll. Imagine sweet, mushiness in your mouth.

Another problem is they are not consistent when making the makis. For example the Sumi Godizilla Maki either has WAY to much wasabi in it or WAY WAY WAY to much wasabi. Plus they cook the shrimp tempura for the rolls ahead of time so it is cold and stale inside of the rolls.

The food entries are pretty decent and that's the only thing keeping me from giving Bok Choy 1 star.

Don't waste your time try Wild Tuna or Sushi Train instead.

My sis and I were in the mood for asian food, and of course after yelping this place, it seemed hopeful as the first review read "The Pad Thai is outstanding". I even asked the waitress and she said the Pad Thai is a popular dish (OK not to be a food snob but I KNOW what good Thai food tastes like... it happens to be my fave food and I've tasted the real thing in Thailand). Trust me... this was NOT good pad thai. It was not only soupy but it lacked the distinct tamarind flavor and everything else good about pad thai. Utter disappointment...

On the upside, we also ordered sushi which was quite palatable (although my sis said a little on the sweet side). Apparently they have tuesday sushi specials, too. My advice: go for the sushi, leave the thai for another restaurant.

So my quest for good asian/Thai food continues...

Well first impression was run. But had to give it a try. Good thing from the moment we sat down service was right on. We ordered an appetizer and very good. Then we went for the sushi, spicy salmon. shrimp tempura, bolingbrook roll and the best of all the Godzilla. Not only were the portions huge but very good. The Godzilla was seriously spicy, and the chef enjoy watching our expressions as we ate and felt the burn. If you have a cold this will clean you out. Good food, good service stop by.

I've been wanting to try Bok Choy for some time, but have to admit that the location was deterring me a little bit. I've had enough bad strip mall Chinese food without needing another to add another place to the list.

I stopped in lunch for today, and decided on the Thai Spicy Chicken lunch special. I was provided a very generous portion w/rice and an egg roll for $5.75 (great value, in my book!) Lots of veggies, and everything was fresh and delicious; the chicken was tender and moist, and the sauce was flavorful with a pleasant spice.

The service was prompt and friendly. Although I don't have any food aversions, I appreciated that my server advised their egg rolls contain shrimp and pork, and that a vegetarian roll was available if I preferred. Bok Choy's decor is simple and clean; much more appealing than the exterior might you lead to believe.

I'll definitely be back, and am looking forward to carrying-out for dinner and trying some of the other dishes (and sushi) other Yelpers have mentioned as favorites. Give it a try - don't let the strip mall location keep you away!

I ordered take out food from Bok Choy last week and found that a few things got a little lost in translation.

They've got a great website with all their menu items listed but no descriptions. I was interested in the 'Thai Spicy' dish but I needed to know what was in it, and if it had meat, would they be able to sub it for more veggies or tofu. They said they could on the phone but they were a little confused and unable to give me a description of the dish. The BF got some sushi and we decided to share a salad an soup since they were so nominally priced.

My BF's sushi was HUGE. Basically a meal and a half and a steal for the price to portion ratio. My "Thai Spicy" was not spicy... in fact, it wasn't even the Thai Spicy dish I had ordered. How do I know that? Because or receipt and the label on my food said so. Instead of getting a spicy Thai dish, I got a not spicy Chinese food dish called Hong Sue. It was okay but I had to load that shizz up with sriracha to make it taste better and I was basically just hoping that they hadn't put meat in it because we didn't get a take out menu with our order so I could check the descriptions.

I would defo skip the Miso soup and salad next time. The salad with ginger dressing was just plain bad. It's just iceberg pieces and really watery ginger dressing. The Miso soup was huge for the price but it was just too seaweed-y for me... like, it smelled more like the ocean than the actual ocean. I took 2 spoonfuls and couldn't bare any more.

In the end, I think I'd go back for sushi or to eat in and get some tea.

I seriously don't know what you guys were eating, because I don't think I was eating the same thing.
My husband walked in on a Friday night for a quick dinner. The girl by the door was on the phone and motioned us to go take a seat. We sat down and waiting a while for anyone to approach us. I ended up going to the sushi chef to get a server.

I ordered sushi and husband ordered empress chicken.
1. the server brought General Tso's chicken (and the receipt said General Tso's chicken)
2. husband said his chicken tasted extremely deep fried and heavy
3. my sushi was sweet. YES. Sweet. This was probably some of the worst I've had. No amount of soy sauce or wasabi helped.

My Mom lives down the street and she oftens order from here. I was visiting and we decided on sushi for dinner so we came here. I was not bothered that it was in an empty strip mall. The place is fairly small, a little quiet. My 10 year old brother is a loud talker and I had to keep telling him to keep his voice down.

We ordered 4 rolls and pot stickers. The rolls were all very good, everything tasted fresh. The spicy was just the right amount of spicy. My brother even ate the rolls and he's not the biggest sushi fan but he said it was really good. I actually wanted to order more rolls but that was before my brain caught up to my stomach. Our waitress forgot our pot stickers but when I reminded her she brought them out. No biggie.

Our bill was pretty reasonable, I think it was around $30. I would come here for again for good decent priced sushi next time I'm in the area.

Does anyone want to volunteer for a little project? I want a total number of strip mall Oriental style restaurants in the Chicago seven county area. I can't even begin to guess at the quantity. I am sure that the number is astronomical. I have had some very bad experiences at places like these so although this place came highly recommended, I still had my doubts. I was way off.

I guess I should get my one and only complaint out of the way right now. Our waitress had the personality of a rock. No wait a second. i have met rocks with better personalities. She took care of us but a smile or a laugh would have been nice. My Pad Thai was honestly OUTSTANDING! I am a Pad Thai amateur at best and i have really only had it at a handful of places and hands down this was some of the tastiest I have had.

It is really too bad that this place is so far away from me. I would like to stop here a bit more often.

I was leaning towards four stars when I saw the portion size come out, but once I realized that my eyes were just playing tricks with me I said this place is legit. The service and decor were both excellent. The lunch specials were well priced and absolutely delicious. The sushi pictures staring me in the face were very tempting, but I went with the Chinese and it was a good choice. Thanks to the yelpers who recommended this joint!

A group of us wanted to go out in Bolingbrook and I suggested Chinese. So after Yelping Chinese Restaurants in Bolingbrook, I found this place and I'm glad I did. Looks are deceiving, this place sits in a little strip mall off of Boughton Road, but when you walk in you're welcomed with a very nice atmosphere.

I give all the food an A+. We shared 4 plates and they were all had great flavor. They also have sushi if you're into that sort of thing. Our meal averages around $10 per person, not bad for a Friday night dinner.

The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because of the service, it was kind of blah.

Food is always hot and tasty. Staff is friendly and they were our go-to place for Chinese for a LONG time. Until....Panda Express opened up across the street and I can get Orange Chicken (double the amount) for half the price and it is just as yummy. Sorry Bok Choy, maybe we'll be back when the economy picks up.

I was visiting Bolingbrook from San Francisco when a friend suggested Bok Choy for some Chinese. When we were walking up to the restaurant, I was leery because of the location - dead strip mall next to a little Mexican market and other strange shops. Upon entering the restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised! Really nice decor and atmosphere.

The house fried noodles was good and so was the Mongolian beef. I think the prices were fair and they served the beer ice cold. That's 4 stars in my book!

The food is really quite good for your standard take-out, extremely affordable if you're ordering off of the lunch menu, very customizable and the ease of ordering (online ordering system so I don't even have to get off of my ass in shitty snowy weather = awesome) adds up.

I haven't actually been INSIDE of the establishment, I must admit, but I wouldn't be adverse to going at all judging by the delivery food.

They're also extremely friendly and willing to work with you on your orders.

Will be back. Will definitely be back.

The online ordering a great feature - you can customize any dish with any extra's you may want (or remove ingredients you don't want) - the portions are good and the ingredients and flavors are great.

I agree that good Chinese is hard to find in Bolingbrook, but this is good for any neighborhood.
