Walked in here yesterday at around 1 in the afternoon for a few drinks with a friend of mine. We sat down at the bar and ordered. The bar itself is very clean and the servers will all friendly. I had a vodka soda and my friend had a jack daniels with gingerale.
Although we weren't planning on eating, we kept seeing all this delicious food coming out from the kitchen so we ordered a cup of soup each. I had the french onion (which was more of a bowl) and my friend ordered the crab claw chowder. He enjoyed it so much he didn't even offer me a taste. Typical.
Anyway, our bartender was attentive, but not overbearing. It seems like people had poor experiences, but I enjoyed my time there and would return to try the grilled cheese and drink some more.
Drinks were cheap when I went. Also, it looks as though it should be by the water.
I have been to Bokampers dozens of times - and love the place overall. I went for lunch on 3/22 and was dismayed by what took place. I ordered grilled boneless wings. When the food came my order was regular wings - ok, no big deal. The waitress then comes up to me and says we don't have your order on the menu anymore - keep in mind she is saying this AFTER the food arrived, not not when I placed the order. I then ordered a small order of grilled wings, and she brought me a good sized order. The check came, and there was a $22 charge for a large wing order. All sorts of issues with ordering and getting things correctly on this day.
I chalked it up to 1 bad experience and will probably return to the place, but I will be sure to double check that what I order is indeed what is brought to my table.
I just gotta laugh. I can't believe I'm seeing folks write that this is the best sports bar in so fla. Obviously, they have never been to a premier sports bar. Ok, so I've been to this place about 7 times already. 3 times for a work lunch and 4 times on a Saturday night for boxing/UFC. The lunches were "fine". I think their location is convenient for the people of Plantation but lets be real, if you take the sunny weather away this place wouldn't survive outside of Florida.
Let me tell you about last night because I'm really p*ssed off now. I keep going back to this place hoping its going to get to it's potential but it simply doesn't. Me and my wife went to American Social and had a pretty damn good time. We decided to go to Bokampers around 9 pm to finish the night with the Mayweather fight since its literally 1 mile from our house. There was literally 50 people waiting outside. At the door stood a big guy keeping folks from walking in. Along with the door guy was the manager, short bald guy. If you've been there then you know who I'm talking about. Let me tell ya something... This guy walks around with the absolute wrong persona. And if he's reading this I want him to know something.."dude, your not a bouncer. Get over it and get a grip.  Your a manager. Manage". Bokampers has been completely incapable of having any organization on a pay-per-view fight night. The manager said to the restless crowd of 50 and I quote,"people remain patient. There's nothing I can do right now. We're at capacity and there's alot of people just standing around waiting for the fight and not spending money". Ummmm, WOW. Really dude? That's a problem then, Isn't it?! I would have probably spent around 200 dollars on my bar tab alone and this guy is telling us that we can't come in because the place is packed with people free loading the fight and not spending money. LAUGH OUT LOUD. Hey Bokampers, let me give you some advice. On fight night, make customers buy Bokampers dollars. Each customer who comes through must pay 25$ and In return, you give them 25 Bolamper dollars to spend in their. That'll accomplish quite a few things. It'll keep the garbage free loader trash out of your establishment. It'll also guarantee 25 dollars per patron in revenue. Oh and another thing... How about a simple dress code? No backward hats or pants sagging. I thought I was in Compton last night. In closing, place has a ton of potential with the right leadership but I can't stomach to give even 1 star after last night. This place disappoints time and time again on any fight night.
One of the best sports bars in the area. This place has tons of TV's to watch your favorite game. Great menu with plenty of selection. Place is clean and staff is friendly. Food is excellent and priced reasonably. My personal favorites are the Cuban Sandwich and boneless wings. WIFI is always a bonus. Highly recommend if you are in the area!
Review Source:I watched a recent UFC match at Bokamper's - and I was pretty unimpressed. Â All of the food was really standard - mozzarella sticks, smothered tater tots, chili... nothing was particularly delicious. Â Actually, I heard the chili described as tasting like "Chef Boyardee". Â
I mean, they at least showed the fights, which I guess counts for something. Â This is definitely a last ditch place for when everywhere else is packed. Â They did have outdoor seating with the fight, which I've never seen anywhere else, so kudos for that.
Ate here a few times while vacationing in Ft. Lauderdale last year. I really enjoyed sitting outside getting a nice breeze while enjoying my meal. The food was good, nothing to write home about. And the waitresses were always super nice, especially because i was dining with a local who goes there almost every day. Really big restaurant too.
Review Source:Me and my friends have been to Bokamper 3 times - always hoping that the next visit will be better. Â They usually have a good DJ on hand who keeps the place energetic and fun. Plus, they have lots of TVs and two bars - Â inside and out. But this last visit was a real disappointment and not even a good atmosphere can redeem this place.
On this last visit we ordered the fish tacos and buffalo sandwich. After a long wait on a relatively slow night, we got our food ice cold.
The buffalo chicken was a thin processed chicken patty and the fish in the tacos was overcooked and tasteless. We told the waiter and he took the food back to the kitchen with no apology. After an excruciating 20 minute wait we got our food and it was COLD AGAIN! Â and I don't mean warm - I mean COLD. We could not get refills on our drinks and could never seem to find our waiter.
I understand you may not go to a place like Bokampers for great food - it is mostly about the sports bar vibe. Unfortunately, the food and service is so sub-par. There are certainly better sports bars with MUCH better food in the area.
This place is alright if you're a big sports fan (I'm not). Football Sundays are jampacked with plenty of TVs showing every game and then some, so if that's your draw, you want to be here.
The food is standard for any sports bar. I think it's a little pricey. Each time I've been here, the service has been slow. The first time was a Sunday, so it was understandable, but the second time there really should have been no excuse.
This place is best enjoyed as a major sports fan, or with a group of friends. Or both.
There's a certain greasiness that defines a quality sports bar chicken fajita. You know what I mean, it's especially noticeable in the onions and the veggies..a kind of sweet greasiness that if it's not noticeable, the place is not a real sports bar. On that note, Bokampers' is legit! I wish that the spicy marinade would have carried over to the chicken since the chicken was lean. No matter, I boosted it up with the pico de gallo. The corn tortillas were warm and appropriately rough (if you want soft, go for flour.) Â Their rainbow chips were a very generous portion - of which a bunch remained - and I ended up using the the Pico de Gallo sauce to boost up the seasoning on the chicken.
Service was pleasant and fast, and I was able to get back on the road for work promptly. My waitress was attentive with the soda refils, and told me about some of their weekend promotions. Â All of the TV's around showing the MLB playoffs made for a pleasant lunch break.
This place is pretty okay. The food is overall decent, and nothing is particularly bad. The prices aren't too shabby, and the drink selection is good. The kids menu is actually pretty good, since they offer a variety of items to choose from aside from the typical kids menu items you find at most restaurants.
The burgers are pretty tasty. They're not the best burgers, but I'm also a huge burger fan, so I could be a tad biased (it's possible ;). They do have one with a fried egg and bacon, so that's a plus in my book. There's also the Bokamper's Beast, which I haven't tried (yet!), but it's huge so if you're a big eater, that's probably for you.
It's a great environment for a sports bar, and there are plenty of TVs and sports paraphernalia around to satisfy any sports nut.
Whenever I'm around the "just North of 595 but South of Sawgrass Mall and East of Ikea" area, I typically come here. Especially if I'm going to the weekly Friday night car show at the Tower Shops, this is a pretty close-by spot to eat at before heading there.
It's fine to go here to watch a sporting event that way you're distracted while you wait to get service.
I like the wings and the drink specials are eh.
Last time I ate here I felt like the waitress kept ignoring us and it took a while to get her attention. Â
All-in-all, this place has great energy during a big sporting event and it's fun to go to during that time.. otherwise, I wouldn't go out of my way to go here because the service has never really been that great and the food is just ok.
I normally don't write a third update to any business, but this last experience was so bad, I am finally done with Bokamper's. I have put up with their inconsistent food and service because of their nice atmosphere and their outdoor patio. Enough is enough this time, though.
My husband, son, and I stopped by early on a Saturday evening for a nice meal before we went home and crashed after a long day at the beach. We sat outside at a table on the nearly empty outdoor patio. The waitress stopped by our table quickly, took our drink order, and put in the order for my son's food. My husband asked for a few minutes, (meaning 3 to 5), to decide on what he wanted.
Five minutes passed. Then ten. Then fifteen. Meanwhile, almost the entire time, the waitress stood at the bar about eight feet away with her back turned to us, talking to other waitresses, the bartender, and one other person. Â In the meantime, my son's meal had showed up, thank goodness. At one point she disappeared, and finally showed up after 20 minutes to take our order. By this time, we were really annoyed. My husband asked for the manager.
I can't stand getting a manager involved. I never like to appear to be someone trying to score a free meal, we are not those people. But I was so annoyed that I supported him. The manager stopped by, my husband explained the problem, and the manager took the waitress aside.
The manager came back to our table, and told us that the waitress said she had made eye contact with him. That was an outright lie. And if she did, why didn't she just come to the table? Â Our menus had been closed at least fifteen minutes. And look, we all make mistakes. If she had admitted she was wrong, I would have been ok with it.
The same waitress came back to the table, and at this point, I had no desire to eat there. We told her never mind, we weren't eating. We were going to wait until our son was finished, and then leave, whether we were done with our beer or not. The manager returned again, asked if we were going to eat, we said no, and then asked if we wanted another waitress, we said no. She comped the meal, which was a child sized chicken fingers, and a bucket of beer.
I appreciate that she comped the meal, but this experience left such a bad taste in my mouth. I realize being frequent visitors does not entitle us to anything, but come on now. I was so annoyed that she lied. And really, I don't know what else the manager could have done to make it right at that point.
We left as soon as my son finished, leaving two full beers on the table, something we never do. I hope they can straighten out their inconsistencies, but I am done. If we want a sports bar, we will go to Duffy's.
Edit: We returned a week or so ago, my husband wanted to stop by, and we had a good experience. Also, the manager reached out to me here, which I thought was nice, so I am raising them up to 3. I think we really had an off night.
More TV's than People.
Prison food, that was a good comparrison.
I have been there with 2 groups of 20 people combined, 99% said the food was 'average'  and expensive.  Both times there, not impressed with the food. Only the Dolphin was noted as ok. That still bothers me, 'Dolphin'...  Can't they call it  Mahi-Mahi, it ijust seems odd  to link it to the 'Dolphin' Anyone remember 'Flipper' or 'The Dolphin Tale' movie out now.
My Ribeye, the 2nd most expensive item on the menu, so tough, I took it home and fed it to my dog. Yes, my Dog.
Ok, the space is cool, if you want 300 TV's. The outside seating area is well done.
So lets be honest, if you want to get drunk, stare at 19 year old waitresses, eat prison food and keep up on 50 sports games, guys, it is all there for you.
Not impressed, Not going back, neither are 20 people in my company.
Let's get this straight, right off: this is a sports bar/eatery, and I sit at the bar. Thus, my experience of Bokamper's is centered around that particular scenario, and filtered through the warm chocolate haze of a Guinness pint.
I travel to the area quite a bit, and I continually find myself here. In fact, I make a point of it. See, I like beer, and I like sports, and this place has both readily available. What's not to love? Yes, it's a bit loud when there are games on, but - see above - it's a sports bar. You expect the soft titillations of a baby grand? Get out. Just... get out.
The bartenders and waitstaff are always friendly and personable, and since I drink Guinness almost exclusively (though I occasionally cheat on Guinness with some Belgian girls I know) I am pleased to report they pour a very good one. No shamrocks or anything, but I never was a fan of that anyway. As a regular here, I often find my next one poured as I reach the bottom of the last. That's love. Unlike many sports bars, this place is also very clean and bright, inside and out.
Okay, okay - food. I have to start with the wings, because they... are... awesome. You have a host of options, including all flats or all drums, dry, wet, or anywhere in between. The hot sauce is not I-dare-you hot, but packs some nice heat, which is perfect. No skinny chickens here, either. Plenty of meat on the bone. I've been going x-hot, x-wet, all-flats recently and it's keeping me pretty happy, as well as whoever sells them napkins.
For lighter fare, I've had the flatbread pizzas, which area also good for a quick, late-night snack. The newly-introduced brisket sandwich rules, with a soft, sweet roll and choice of sweet potato fries if you want them... which you do.
In the always relative range of sports bars, I love this one. A great place to go with friends, grab a little food and a few drinks, and watch a game.
Having just left there, no the music wasn't loud, had the cheese burger, it was simple and basic. My friends has a Cuban Sandwich and the Tuna Wonton's, they liked them very much!
I agree with Erik L. nothing is worse then an uncontrolled volume, at the luncheon crowd, we didn't experience that. Having been to several prisons, the food is no comparison. I agree with Erik, I like hot wings too!
There was a waitress there, that looked like she could light anything on fire, Erik I would have just asked to redo my order!
I like Bokamper, as a person and a restaurant, he's got a good story!
Bokamper's is a favorite of mine, primarily because I can walk there by cutting through a few parking lots.
Delicious beer (harp on tap) and solid bar food. This place treats you like a regular after a few visits. They have special events during major drinking holidays (st. Patty's, Cinco de mayo etc.) and it is nice to be able to sit on the patio.
My favorite are the tuna wontons and the delicious key lime mints on the hostess stand. Prices are little higher than Ale house though.
It is what it is. A bar: Greasy food and mediocre service.
The nice thing about it is the location and it has a ton of tv's of different sizes everywhere which is nice for game watching. They were piping in the Heat game while we were there.
Just drink a lot of beer, watch the games and forget what you are eating.
The food is good, nothing spectacular. I come here because I love Kim and I love South FL sports. When I'm in Philly, everyone and their mothers are about whoever is playing up there. There's electricity in the air everywhere you go. When our teams down here play...it's a regular day. I like to feel the excitement and electricity from drunk South Floridians at Bokamper's.
Review Source:Basically an ok Sports bar, has lots of room going for it. Â A few things are a bit amiss. 1. That is the largest menu i have ever seen (not a good thing). 2. Bo's "Classic" or "Signature" or whatever burger, was one you built your self (that makes no sense) and 3. Perhaps it was just the staff on the night i went, but the music they were blasting was absolute garbage. Millenium ButtRock from the start to finish.
Giraffe Friendly.
Named after the Dolphin's former linebacker Kim Bokamper - this is  the best sports bar I've set foot in South Florida. Which leads to the question -what makes a great sports bar? For me it's a great selection of draft beer, tasty bar food, attractive and attentive female bartenders, HDTV's everywhere showing relevant sports - all at a moderate price. If you don't like any of the above, then go somewhere else.
I've come out here several times to catch Dolphins games and UFC fights and have always had a positive experience. It does get crowded during the NFL Sunday games but if you're determined you'll get a spot at the bar. There are two large bar areas indoors and a patio seating area. They have NFL ticket and each TV is tuned to a different game. If you're a Dol-fan such as myself you get to watch on the huge screen. After every Dolphin TD, they play the Dolphins' fight song just like they do at  the stadium. It's a great game-day environment.
My favorite dish here is the spicy tuna wrap with a side of seasoned fries. One wouldn't think the dish would be good at a sports bar but it's great. It has a spicy sauce that is delicious. When I've sat the bar, the bartenders greet quickly and take your order right away. They smile and make me feel at home. Â Bokamper's is the place to go to - hands down - to watch any major sporting event on TV.
Was visiting from out of town and coming back from a Dolphin game. Our friend recommended this place to grab some food and watch the rest of the NFL games. Â
I really liked all the tv's all over the place outside where we sat. I ended up getting the wings which were normal tasting, nothing spectacular. Good service and decent prices. Next time I am in town, I'll try something else.
I'm taking a star away because of the cigarette smoke. I am from California where smoking is literally banned everywhere, especially restaurants. We were seated next to the bar where this girl was smoking and hold her cigarette in her hand literally over my shoulder. We couldn't move anywhere else since it was so crowded.
Utterly unremarkable. This is your basic American restaurant/sports bar. Apparently, it gets crazy during UF and Dolphins games. We had lunch there around noon one Saturday when neither of those teams were playing. Seemed like the crowd was a mix of families, college football fans, and loner dudes tapping into the free wi-fi.
Overall, it was just okay. The service was friendly but slow, particularly when it came to bringing drinks. The staff attire may be a draw/turn-off depending on what you're looking for. Hostesses were wearing referee-esque outfits that showed alot of cleavage and servers were about half-and-half between short skirts and hot pants. Â Somewhere between a normal restaurant and a Hooters.
I liked the open feel to the indoor seating. The tables were well spaced and there were plenty of TVs without it being ridiculous like some places in town. The open vaulted ceilings made for a nice atmosphere. However, they seemed to be streaming the FSU game off the ESPN3 website and had tons of problems. If I had been there to watch that particular game, I would have been really upset. It was probably out or on "please stand by" for a maybe half the time we were there - and intermittently. Seemed like that effected about a third of the screens in the place. Pretty shoddy for a sports bar.
The food was fine, but nothing special. I had the pulled pork sandwich, which was good, the fries were average, and the coleslaw was like eating shards of plastic. The draft list was sadly small and boring.
It was more generic than a sports bar but had more character than its restaurant competitors like Applebee's. I'd go here again if it was where the group wanted to go, but I probably wouldn't suggest it.
The food is very much on par with Applebee's or Fridays (on their bad days). Â the service during my one visit was awful. Â
It was a production to have our checks split, they forgot two diners orders, and rarely checked on us throughout the meal. Â The atmosphere was nice and there were plenty of TVs for the sports watchers. Â It is likely a good place for a beer but not so much for a meal.
This place was a little too crazy. Granted, there was a Gator game on that night so there was like 200 gator fans in full face paint and regalia to deal with. The bar was crowded and the people were a little on the drunken loud side, but whatever. I've seen worse. Problem is though, its a restaurant! Not a college bar, so I expected better. especially considering the location.
Slow service. So-so food on both visits.
Although it has potential for a sports bar. Its too much of a neighborhood crowded watering hole!
Ok... I've been to this place 3 times now. Twice for Gator Games... And it's awesome. (and i'm not a gator... from california, and not a true college football fan, but I think i'm getting there...)
During commercials... They play the Gator Fight Song, and just have a lot of spirit.
Sitting Indoors is ALRIGHT... The best place for watching games is out back on the patio. There's fans blowing, and like 15 tv, with high tops... and not enough chairs, but come game time, most people are just standing around anyway. :) Get there early to claim a good spot!
The wings are great!
The beers are on special... buckets of beer... and tap is usually a decent price.
The burgers are good! Juicy, and comes out to order. not overdone.
The sweet potato fries - I think they are the bestest here for SoFlo! :)
And then there's the BEAST. 3 lbs of ground beef, 4 fried eggs, 8 slices of bacon, and a patty and fries? And an hour to finish it. Last night, apparently someone was attempting the challenge. but was never mentioned again...
THat being said... :) Can't wait for the next gator game!
I frequented this place a lot when I first moved down here from Michigan as it was the only sports bar that I became familiar with since I had no cable, but the need to watch my hometown sports. It's a sports enthusiast wet dream with loads of 50in plasmas hung all around the bar areas and dining sections, playing just about every sporting event available, inside and out and a large projector next to the inside main bar.
I found that they had a respectable selection of beers and some of their food was good, but much of it was mediocre at best. I really enjoyed their blackened swordfish sandwich, which is what I chose most often. Beyond that, I haven't ventured too far out on their menu.
Went one time for lunch...will never be back. Â Food is unbelievably horrid! Â The veggies are frozen with garlic thrown on them to make you thing they made them....yuk! Â This place was good when it was first Kavenaughs, but even that one went down over time with the food quality. Â I am glad to see they are always busy, I hope they do well, I just will not be spending my hard earned dollars here.
Review Source:Nice location, plenty of big screen tv's and pleasant outdoor patio seating for the lunch crowd. Â Came here with a group of coworkers, this review is judging strictly based on atmosphere and food (no liquid lunch)....
Appetizers:
Conch Fritters, Bo's Sweet Potato Fries which came with a melted marshmallow dipping sauce (available as an appetizer only!?) and Calamari. Â Not the worst I've had, but certainly far from the greatest. Â Conch Fritters were fried practically black. Â Sweet Potato Fries were decent, points for creative dipping sauces (melted marshmallow), unfortunately it looked better in print on the menu than it tasted.
For lunch I had "Bo's Big Hit Chopped Steak and Egg Burger." A half-pound of angus beef, topped with cheddar cheese, bacon and a fried egg. Â A decent burger, I'd probably try it again if I return.
As the other reviewers said, this is probably a great place to watch the game and have some drinks, but not a place that can hold its own on food alone.
After passing by several times and finding the place packed, I assumed this place was a great eat. Â
Boy, was I disappointed. Â
We ordered take out first and found the food just so-so. Â Chicken philly sandwich had some sort of fake processed American type cheese on it, very little chicken and the bun was bland and cold. Â Â Fries were ho-hum.
We decided we would try eating in. Â
First we had potato skins. Â Hard to screw these up. Â They were covered in fake nacho cheese sauce and then topped with real cheddar. Â What a surprise. Â Quite disgusting. Â
We also ordered the shepard's pie. Â It tasted like it was made with seasoned taco meat and canned gravy. Â I am not sure how my husband ate it. Â Â
I am not sure why this restaurant is always crowded, it must be the giant flat screens and the alcohol and the draw of the big name, former sports star. Â
Don't think we will be back. Â Lefty's is close by and a much better option.
ummm...yikes! Â First of all, when this location was 'Kananaugh & Morrisey' Â tihngs were better....*tear
I had high hopes for such a great location...and the idea of an expanded bar...but alas my dreams were crushed.
This place sucks! Â I mean seriously sucks. Â I guess if you are just going for drinks and to watch a game, then go for it....but for the love of god, please don't go for the food.
Oh, and don't be fooled by the delicious sounding 'deep fried twinkie', because these people have apparently not gotten the memo that you don't fry the sweet sweet twinkie in the same oil as the fries, mozz sticks, fish..etc.....YUCK! Took just one bite, and nearly vommed.
Be prepared for lots of tvs, and lots of loud. Â Service is meh
Typical sports bar, but with terrible food.
Not vegetarian friendly (expect for a gross frozen veggie burger)
