Korean fried chicken is like CRACK! BeWArE!!!! It is sooooo good.
I'm very picky when it comes to eating wings... I only like certain types of wings, and these are so good...

Parking can be a little tricky. Last time i came i called ahead and just picked up so i didnt have to waste time looking for parking.

    Gotta try it!

Wow the wings were the best I've had. The chicken breast in the soy ginger sauce is outstanding. Worth the drive.

Best fried chicken chain! We have been to the one on 5th ave in NYC and the one in Leonia, NJ.
Pickled radish is a must with these delicious little chickens lol. I prefer wings over legs.

Surprisingly great re-heated in an oven the next day. Bon Chon on 5th ave has fried mac and cheese which is pretty tasty.

The one in Leonia, NJ is a dive.

Korean Fried Chicken! Used to be secret but now its all over the place.  This location is 10 minutes away from my job and is my top spot for Korean Fried Chicken.

Ambiance: street parking is always few so you just have to get lucky.  This location is really just pick up and go.  I hardly ever see people dine in and I personally have only dined in once or twice.  Clean looking place with several tables and a large tv thats always on Korean channels.

Service:  Call ahead if you are ordering out.  A good 30 minutes ahead.  Always accurate with my order and very friendly.

Food: Crunchy and very tasty soy garlic chicken wings! yummmm its a very unique taste if you're not familiar with asian food.  I tried the hot wings once and after 5 wings  or so my nose was sweating. just to give you an idea.

All in all: the crunch on the wings is just amazing.  I kinda wish there was more variety though.  But HEY its a chicken place.  Definitely go here... but just to pick up the food.

Since it has enough reviews, I'll make it short  and sweet.

    1. Food is 3.5.  I ordered wings and it didn't taste good as other BonChons.  I ordered both flavors and it felt like there wasn't enough flavors.  Wings were crispy as usual (+) but meat was ... small.  what happened?

    2. Restaurant itself gets a 2.5.  It's flouracent lighting, TV from 1990, and lack of character makes this place a bit too boring to eat.   I say just take it togo.

Order before you get there.  I had to wait a while to get my food (which means a good thing since they were made to order).

Would I go back? probably not... I think there are few other places nearby to meet your Korean Fried Chicken needs.  This location isn't like the other Bonchons.

I'm surprised that in the west coast, Korean chicken hasn't really caught on yet except where Koreans are in LA and OC. Many of the clienteles aren't Korean at many of these places over in the east. Bonchon is pretty good, I like their non spicy soy garlic flavor. They taste really great eaten on the spot because they don't start cooking until you order; then supposedly brush the sauce on each wings, for real?!
It generally takes 30 minutes so best to call ahead. This particular one is basically at the outskirt of pal park Ktown. Apparently the owner changed recently but she was pretty friendly. It was slow when I went to pick up some wings and she started venting to me how the worst customers are younger fobby Korean moms... funny but true :)

In mood for some grease.Drove down to Leonia to try the famous Korean Wings Heaven.Place was empty on a Sunday evening.Little hesitant to go in.Finally decided to give it a try.The guy at the cashier asked me if I had placed order already. When I said no..he said please be aware wait time can be anywhere from 30-40 minutes..Ouuch..Thats the time one would take if you are going out to source your chickens, butcher and clean them, prepare your sauces and then fry them.I decided to stay.We placed our order.Their minimum portion quantities are huge and one might not want a portion size of 12 wings. They should have the half portion option.Got the half  spicy and half soy and garlic. We got spicy drums too alongwith zucchini sticks.Hubby liked the wings but the drums had this cornflour peeling off crispie that he didnt fancy too much and they were completely bland on the inside. The zucchini sticks were great.Even sized, nice and crisp and the batter outside was nicely seasoned too.
But the wait time is ridiculously long and I saw quite a few customers who walked in refused to wait that long and couple customers who walked away because they couldnt get smaller portions.

Wings is considered to be fast food..Unless you plan ahead and call or order online there is no way this food is coming out fast.

Order ahead of time! That's what my family learned as we eagerly waited for our chicken. We saw many other customers come in after us, approach the cashier area and were almost promptly given their order of chicken. If you place your order when you get there, be prepared to wait. We waited nearly twenty minutes for a large combo and a large side order of pickled radish. The cashier also double checked and asked whether a large combo (14 wings + 5 drum sticks) with two sides of rice and radish would be enough. It was definitely a good start, and we were looking forward to trying some pastries next door for dessert.

About twenty minutes after we had placed our order, the cashier came over to tell me that our order was improperly prepared. Instead of having all soy garlic, they had prepared half soy garlic and half hot sauce. Since my family was starving, we said it was fine to bring out the half and half order. The cashier said we could have two free sodas as an apology for them mixing up the order.

Some of the drumsticks were huge; others tiny, but all (drumsticks and wings) had a decent amount of meat. The chicken had a kick, but the radish and rice are nice cool substitutes.

I'm just bummed that the time between placing an order and receiving it is so long. The BonChon in Allston, MA has a menu many times bigger, and it doesn't take nearly as long to get your food so order ahead and enjoy your food almost right away!

Wings are better: you get more skin and sauce!

I was expecting the Hot & Spicy one to be better, but actually I enjoyed their Soy Garlic better.  The skin is very crispy and not drenched in oil or batter like other fried chickens. I guess that is because it is doubled-fried.

If you sprinkle some sesame seeds on top of the wings, they would look more Asian and delicious!

I was pleasantly surprised with how filling the food is for the price. We ordered the chicken strips (14) for $12.95. We also ordered some sweet potato fries, which had some brown sugar coating on them. We were stuffed after the meal. I look forward to trying the wing-drumstick combo next time and the pickled radish.

I would have liked some sauce to dip my fries in, but they were fine alone. I also would have liked more sauce on my chicken. Peck Peck in Teaneck is a little more generous with their sauce.

    I'll be back.

After having the pleasure of trying BonChon a couple of times now, I officially categorize my life into two distinct halves: one before BonChon and the other after.  It's making me question what else I've missed in my life thus far.  I can't believe fried chicken wings could make me do this!  BonChon Chicken lives up to, nay, it far exceeds all the hype surrounding it.  My Yelp brother Kar and I drove half an hour away so he could get his BonChon cherry popped.  And boy did he pop it alright.  What more can be said about this place that many others have not said.  The wings are crispy, flavorful, and addicting!  Apparently many people share those same sentiments cause from the short time we were there a bunch of customers had come in and out eating in or picking up their orders.  Soy Garlic is what I prefer but the hot flavor is right up there.  Perhaps if they fuse the flavor *wink, wink BonChon* and make it one of the options, my head would probably explode from Armawingdon!  Anyways getting back to my point the wings are extraordinary and worth the extra expense.  At 14 pieces for $12.85, it's on the pricier side but trust me you won't be disappointed.  Now let me go help Kar out before BonChon gets him pregnant...

When people ask me what is good fried chicken in this area, Bon Chon is the first place I mention to them.  I have tried many different kinds and flavors of different  fried chicken, and Bon Chon is a place I always go back to.  I have brought many out-of-staters and people who were oblivious to the "Korean-style" of fried chicken, and they were all very impressed.

First thing you need to know is that unless you want to sit and catch up with your friends for 30-45 minutes at this place, I recommend you call ahead with your order for either take-out or dine-in.  Why does it take 30-45 minutes?  Because they cook this chicken in a Korean style that includes a "double-frying" technique.

The types of orders you can get are the following:

Wings - Small pieces of chicken (wings and small drums)
Drumsticks - Large pieces of drumsticks
Combo - combination of the Wings and Drumsticks order
    Breast Meat - boneless

All these orders come in either a medium or large size, with the medium size costing around $13, and the large order costing around $22.  It is not cheap by any means, as for comparison, the medium Wings order has 14 pieces, while the large order has 24 pieces.  Honestly though, I have to say that you will not be disappointed.

There are only two flavors here, Soy Garlic and Spicy.  Soy Garlic is a traditional Korean flavor for fried chicken, and Spicy, is well, as the word says, spicy!  I personally trained myself throughout the years to handle spicy food and I have to say that the first time I had a Spicy Bon Chon wing, my mouth was going crazy.  However, I am now able to eat many of them at once.  If you want to try to some and you are SURE to handle spicy (Koreans generally love spicy food), then order 1/2 Soy Garlic and 1/2 Spicy, so you can get a feel how both taste.  Don't waste that chicken though if it's too spicy though!  Train yourself!  I've seen some of my friends sweating when they eat it, and some just able to eat one.

Now for the chicken itself, when I first got this chicken, I noticed that the chicken is NOT greasy at all.  I suppose their "double-frying" technique is the reason for this.  I used to get the order of Drumsticks since I love drumsticks, but I have since started ordering the Wings, since they are smaller, and I can eat more skin, since there is so much flavor!  The chicken is breaded just right, crispy, and flavorful; all the things you can ask for in a piece of fried chicken!

As for the sides, they have a few which includes rice, steak-cut french fries, sweet potato fries, zucchini fries, pickled radishes, and dumplings.  I have not tried the dumplings, but all the other sides are a great accompaniment for your meal to nibble on.

In regards to the place itself, it's decent sized with a bunch of tables and one TV.  Don't expect great service, as there just a person behind the counter.

As a reminder again, CALL AHEAD (around 30 minutes ahead) with your order so once you get there, you will not need to wait long to feast on your deliciously made chicken!  If you will try the chicken because of this review.  Thank me later :)

I personally like this location because there is a Baskin-Robbins across the street, so there is easy access to desert!

Note:  Bon Chon is a chain and I'm sure the style of chicken is similar for each establishment.  I know that other locations, especially the Bon Chons in NYC have an extended menu with more selection of other Korean food and alcohol.  I have not seen alcohol on the menu for the Bon Chons in New Jersey, only in New York.  If you want to double check the menu for the Bon Chon closest to your area, just check out their website.

My 4-year old loves Bonchon that's why this has become one of our comfort food.
We always order half spicy and half soy garlic wings.
Regardless if you are eating-in or out i suggest that you call 20minutes before coming so that you won't have to wait.

Came here based on a recommendation from a co -worker who happens to be Korean.. I have never had Korean fried chicken before, so I was curious about how it would compare to the American style.

The menu has just a few items: Soy Garlic chicken, Spicy chicken, and French fries. From there, you can decide either wings, legs, boneless, or mixed. After placing your order, be prepared to wait for about 20 minutes for your food to come.

The skin on the fried chicken is very crispy and not too bready, which I like. In addition, the chicken itself does not feel oily and greasy like KFC or Popeyes can be. The soy Garlic chicken is my personal favorite.. very flavorful! And spicy food lovers will love the spicy chicken; it's actually spicy throughout the chicken. And I'm always a big fan of the steak style fries.

This particular location is very clean, and well maintained. Most of the people that order from here usually take out, so you would have no problems finding seating. i took my in-laws here during my second time here, and we all sat with no issues. I have yet to try other Bon Chons in the area, since I know that each one is individually managed. but this place has left me a good impression. My only lament is that this is the closest Bon Chon to me, but it's over a 40-45 minute drive.. Otherwise, I would come by much more frequently!

Amazing chicken wings known to man!! Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Soy garlic is awesome but always always mix it up with the spicy. Although, spicy is really spicy. You can order all wings or a mix of wings and drumsticks. Get the large because the medium is never enough.

Call before going, because it takes awhile for them to get it ready. You can order fries and rice too.

This is the biggest Bon Chon I've seen. Good for sitting down and eating as well as take out.

Holy mother of God these are good chicken wings!!!

These are hands down the best chicken wings I've ever had.  Had both the soy garlic and spicy combos.  Both were insanely good.  Crispy outside, moist inside, delicious flavor, no greasy taste.

Took the advice of other Yelpers and called in order 30 mins prior.  Showed up, paid, left and almost had to pull over on the ride home......the aroma permeating my car was making me drool......

Yea, it was on the expensive side for wings, but certainly worth the rare indulgence.

I think this BonChon is the best BonChon in Jersey. They take a long time to cook the chicken, but it is SO worth it because all that time makes it more delicious. I suggest calling your order in about 30 minutes ahead of time even if you are going to dine in.

I just wish this one had more side orders. There's only the usual raddish, french fries, or bowl of rice to choose from. The owners are friendly and would prefer if you paid in cash especially for small orders [might be because of the credit card fees they have to take account of].

As everyone else said service sucks. No smile, no have a nice day, pay wait for your food and leave. Long wait, for me averages about 35 minutes for a small order. With all that being said the food is yummy. If you're in the mood for fried chicken this is your place. Its crispy on the outside juicy on the inside marinated in a really delicious sauce. Not much on the menu at this location only chicken wings & drums or chicken strips, fries are the only side. Oh and rather expensive $12 for a smaller order of chicken (serves about 2 people)

    Bottom line: Service- 2 stars
                       Food- 5 stars

It's a Korean fast-food restaurant, so don't expect GREAT service. You sit down, order your food, wait, and eat. You get your own drinks. No one will come to your table.

The food is typical BonChon. If you know what bonchon is, then there ya go. If not, then you should try it because it's doubly-fried, deliciously marinaded chicken. I like bonchon, but I don't love it. Apparently, this is the place to go for bonchon though. Their fries are great because I suspect they are doubly fried as well. So crispy and greasy. Mmm.

Nothing more to say about this place. If you want bonchon, go.

Oh... their spiciness level seems inconsistent. The first time I went, it was SOOOO spicy. The second time, decently spicy. That's not really a complaint. Just a side note. Either way, doubly-fried chicken. What's not good about that.

Darn it - having password issues tonight and it just wiped out my witty review and now I'm just frustrated. Here's the Cliff notes:
    above average chicken
    excellent french fries
    lousy service
    be very very patient
don't expect any acknowledgement of your lengthy wait or any apology.

We got the box of mixed pieces in Soy Garlic. I was surprised how jumbo the big pieces were. Usually I'm a bigger fan of wings than drumsticks but the drumsticks here were great. The flavor of the chicken was not overpowering but a good amount of tangy garlic. The real delight was that the fried skin was perfectly crunchy without being overly greasy, thick, or burnt thanks to clean oil.

I admit, I didn't experience a chicken high like I hoped though. Still, I would find myself strangely craving BonChon on multiple latter occasions.

The free daikon pieces were ample and awesome too.

    A worthwhile splurge ($1/piece)

Once in awhile our family likes to splurge on these wings. They use really clean oil so the chicken gets perfectly fried. You should call in your order about 15 to 20 minutes ahead of time since they fry the chicken to order.
You probably get more meat if you order the larger chicken pieces instead of the wings but the wings are tastier in my opinion.
Your order will come with daikon squares that are a great sour counterpoint to the sweet wings.
If you're a fan of chicken and haven't tried these wings it's definitely worth a try!

BonChon Chicken is so good, that last year my family decided to forgo our traditional Christmas dinner and subsequently ordered 5 boxes of chicken.

It was the best Christmas dinner I've ever had.

In fact, it's so good, it's not only guaranteed that you'll be munching away on the drive home (unable to resist its crunchy spicy/soy juiciness), but you will also be inappropriately licking your fingers after each bite.

No shame, only guilty pleasure. Mmmmmmm you know you want some

    Review Source:

Ok well the menu is very limited.  Chicken drum sticks, chicken wings, combo drum stick and wings, boneless wings (hot and spicy or soy garlic.) and fries.
That being said its very easy to decide what you want.  Drum stick its where its at.  easy to manage and more meaty.  and hot and spicy yes please.
The fries are very good  double fired = extra crispy but not burned.  YUM however a little disappointed that they didn't have the delicious honey mustard sauce ive had at other bon chons.
The wings themselves cooked to perfection but the sauce more sweet then spicy.  Yea there was maybe a hint of spiciness to them but nothing to make my mouth say yikes i need to eat some of that pickled radish or holy crap i need to slosh down some beer.  Not even an after tingle of spiciness lingering in my mouth which is Wat i was looking for, i wanted my taste buds to sweat...
If you want spicy Korean chicken that will set your mouth on fire i suggest going to chicken and beer in cliff side park.
But i cant actually complain because the chicken and fries were both delicious, and although this place is always empty when I pass bye, the food is good.  I will be  going back again to see if they can turn the heat up for me.

I'd actually give this place perhaps a 3.5 for the experience but a 4 for the food. My friend and I came here after reading all the good reviews on Yelp. We walked in and instantly, my nose was assaulted with the harsh smells of chlorine - the place smelled like a swimming pool! There was no one at the counter and we had to wait around awkwardly before someone came out from the back. He informed us that an order of chicken would take 30 minutes! Sooo, my friend and I ended up sitting in the nearly-empty restaurant for half an hour. It was alright on that specific day because we were just hanging out, but if I had had somewhere else to go, I probably would have liked to call in the order in advance.

When the food actually came out, though, it was well worth the wait. My friend and I shared an order of the soy garlic chicken. This fried chicken was unlike any other fried chicken I had had - the skin was crispy and fried, but without the thickness of breaded fried chicken. It was an interesting experience because my brain was experiencing both the guilty pleasure of having fried chicken but was also thinking that this was supposed to be "healthy" as well. I'd definitely come back if I were in the area again.

If you like fried chicken you'll like bonchon.  Korean style double fried chicken.

I came here with a friend, mistakenly, right before going to play some volleyball for the night which was right around the corner.  we both agreed that the chicken tasted soooooooooooooooo good.... but when we stepped onto the volleyball court we both were regretting the decision.  Will definitely be back.... hard to go back to KFC when you can have BonChon.

Bonchon is the BEST fried chicken joint in the area. The real KFC(Korean Fried Chicken), Haha

You can choose from wings, boneless chicken, legs or you can mix/match. There are two flavors: Soy Garlic and Spicy. I prefer all wings. I love how crunchy and moist the chickens are. They finally added a few new things on their menu(dumplings, sweet potato fries, dumplings etc etc).

Make sure you call 20-30min ahead if you are going to dine-in or take out. It takes 20-30minutes to make them. Also, for big sport events like the NBA finals, Superbowl, Playoff. Make sure you call an HOUR ahead. It gets hella crazy in there.

This is easily the best Bon Chon of all the ones in NNJ & NYC.  You can taste the freshness of the oil in the chicken. Having spoken to the owner on many occasions, he knows this is more expensive but he feels it's the way to go for quality of food. If you had a wing from here and nearby Fort Lee Bon Chon, you would easily taste the stale oil of the Fort Lee counterpart. We all know what old oil tastes like.. don't settle for it!

On top of that main selling point, the owner is a great guy and very friendly. Eating in or taking out, you are always met with a smile on the guy's face. If this stuff weren't so damn expensive, I'd be there a few times a week!

I'll be the first one to say that I love this chicken, which I'm sure that I wouldn't be the first one either.  That being said, let's move on to why they don't get 5 stars.  Chicken wings to begin with has jumped so high in price in just the past decade, but not to the extent as these Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) joints.  That probably explains why I can't see myself patronizing the Korean Chicken places on a regular.  I have to really crave for it in order for me to shell out ridiculous bills for what we in America believe is fast food.

Each Bon Chon is different.  Most of the ones I've been to in Manhattan don't sell rice, only Staten Island sells brown rice.  Their menu and promotions vary in each store.  But what isn't different is the chicken.  Always good, always tasty.  This location has french fries.  They are twice fried like their chicken.  And like their chicken they are GREAT!! and expensive.  An order will cost you $5.  A single order is $5.  Nuts.  Until I find a cheaper KFC, Korean that is, I can only suggest this place if you crave it.  There cannot be casual visits knowing I have to shell out $15 for lunch, when I can go to Hooters and get the same amount for half the price.  Although I'd give it another 1/2 star if it had FroYo.

Haha, what's this? another Bon Chon review?! yeahhh, ok forget that this is my 3rd or 4th, err I forget how many review on bon chon, but let's get on with it, shall we? This is the second location I've tried in NJ and this is definitely my favorite.

The place is more spacious than the one in Fort Lee and the wings are much bigger! Oh yes, that sold me.  Just as cripsy and scrumpdillyumptious.   Also there is alloted parking area for the place which is another plus and I heard couple stores down there's a boba place for afterwards which I completely passed by.  will definitely have to stop in next time I'm there.  Beats going into mitsuwa if I'm craving for Boba.

The only thing I have problems going into either Fort Lee/Leonia from my sister's place is that the gps takes you into the main roads where you have to merge 3-4 lanes right when you get off the exit which is almost impossible in heavy traffic.  so yeah, definitely take the back roads if you're coming from Nutley... otherwise you're forced to go into NYC and backtrack which is not all the fun O_o

This is a mostly pick-up joint, though eat-in is available. It has the best Korean style wings and drumsticks for miles. Very courteous staff, stayed open late by half an hour when I was late because of traffic.  Superior quality compared to UFC which is a few miles up the road.

Only thing I would improve is adding more sides, they just have fries and pickled radish.

Go for the wings, they offer the best batter coverage. They've recently added boneless, but that's not nearly as tasty.

Delicious spicy wings! So crispy, savory, juicy, and just the right spiciness!!  And it's not so greasy either! We ordered a $20 large (20 pcs) combo of spicy wings and soy garlic wings which comes with a side dish of radish pickles. The large was more than enough for 2 people. Both flavors are good, but personally I prefer the spicy version!! Hands down! The menu is super streamlined and as straight-forward as you can get.... you get the choice of either medium or large size drumsticks/wings/boneless strips with 2 choices of flavor (spicy or soy garlic), and the only other thing they sell is $5 french fries, that's it. Apparently this place only specializes in none other than chicken so I recommend take out, and make sure you call them before you pick up (or dine in) 20 minutes prior!!! Thanks Jeff for the recommendation!!

Just ate the best wings ever!  I guess I got them on a good night, because the chicken was not dry and the spicy wings were REALLY spicy.

The soy garlic is great, but you have to really like'em spicy to order the spicy ones.  I had some siracha on hand just in case it wasn't spicy enough, but I didn't need it.  It's a slow burn.  The kind that keeps you eating more even though your whole mouth is numb.

Next time I get the craving for wings I know where I'm headed.  Taking exit 70A on the turnpike for some BonChon Chicken!!

I love me some Bonchon Chicken :D I could eat this everyday!

I only give it a 4 stars because of the price ($10 for small box and $20 large), but as soon as I got the box in my hands (ordered half/half mixed), the aroma that came out of it was soooo good my mouth was watering already =P I like the soy/garlic flavor better, but honestly, if I don't really pay attention which flavor I'm eating, I really can't tell the difference, hahaha, 'cause the "spicy" fllavor ain't that spicy to me!

Taste: 5 stars, hands down. It is your choice, wings or drumsticks or mix of both, in either soy garlic or spicy or mixed. A large order of the chicken costs $20 and is roughly $1 a pc. Most of the pieces are no giant KFC pieces and thankfully it ain't like the greasy and bland like most chicken chains. Unlike normal fried chicken, the double frying process makes the meat underneath the skin taste just as flavorful as the outside. And I love the big cup of pickled turnips that comes with every order. Call in and order to go.

    The chicken is delicious!
Its a bit pricey and the flavor gets to be too much after a few but the first couple bites are awesome.
The $20 dollar special will almost be enough to fill 2 big eaters. I recommend getting the $5 fries if both want to be completely full.
Also make sure you order ahead because it takes a while to make.
But if you never had korean style fried chicken before its time to try this place out.

This place is good, but not as good as Boom Boom in Fort Lee.  And it's definitely subpar when compared to UFC in Flushing, but it would be unfair to compare chicken to that haven.  Faint.

So I'll stick with a comparison to Boom Boom, since it's so close to BonChon.  The crust and flavoring is great, but the chicken is definitely tougher than Boom Boom's.  AND they don't offer a free soda with purchase anymore (though Boom Boom may not either, I'm not sure).  One plus is a LOT of seating area and a bathroom.

This is seriously fried chicken crack.

The BonChon Chicken franchise is a great idea - fast food fried chicken, that is a healthier alternative (and tastier!) than its KFC cousin.

Not to mention far less greasy and much better at being reheated (would recommend the oven over the microwave, though)...

I've only ever had the ginger soy variety, and it's ridiculously finger-licking good. Seriously, I could eat a 20 pack by myself if left to my own devices...
