The atmosphere is cozy and clean. The food is always fresh and good. Try their french onion soup!

This is a 3.5 star local restaurant. The service is young but they try. The food is lacking a little something but they tried. The intention here is good. With a little something extra added to the experience it could be a solid 4 star joint.
The atmosphere is pleasant: exposed brick, bistro tables, and a a few booths.
I had the mushroom arugula risotto with balsamic reduction. It was really quite good. The mushrooms were pleasant, the arugula was a great touch of peppery bitter, the rice was creamy al dente, and the balsamic was a perfect touch. Mom had a panini that looked just ok and she said it was as such. It was served with a small cafe salad.

I feel like the dishes are lacking some oomph here as well as the service, but it's a-okay in my book.

Service is average.  Their intention is good, but their attention is elsewhere a lot of the time.  I've had to flag down a server a few times, unfortunately.

The overall ambiance is nice, and I quite enjoy it.  Big glass windows, higher-than-average ceilings, and the French bistro appeal is definitely there.  Too bad their food isn't amazing.

Chocolate Croissant... Average/below average.  Granted, I had this in the late afternoon, so it might've not been as fresh if, say, I had gotten this in the morning.  Nonetheless, when I purchase a baked good, especially a croissant from a French place, I expect it to be fluffy and flaky.  This was more on the stiff side, and the chocolate inside was on the hard side as well.

Steak Frites... Total letdown.  The demi glace was NOT good.  Demi glace should enhance the flavor of meats, not ruin it.  This ruined it.  Although, the hanger steak itself was tough.  And the pommes frites were just okay.  I don't recommend this

Chicken Schnitzel... Average/good enough, but could have been better with more seasoning.  I added salt, and it was good enough.  Some of the asparagus was too charred for me, but the flavor was good.  Again, the pommes frites were just okay.

Half Roasted Chicken... Good.  Well seasoned, well cooked, perfect portion.  The mashed potatoes and veggies were okay, too.

Fried Mini Donuts... WINNER!  They are cooked fresh because everytime I've had them, they arrive so warm!  The presentation for this dessert is very nice, arriving in a coiled metal thing that spirals to shape like a cone, paper inside (to catch the oil), and it's filled to the very top.  This portion is huge and a very good value.  Also comes with two dipping sauces: chocolate and some berry sauce (possibly raspberry).

Although most of the food items I've tried are just okay, the Mini Donuts are enough to keep me coming back.  Hopefully, I'll eventually find a savory dish worth ordering again.

i read these reviews and its really sad how the service really brings down the rating. my brother suggested we go here for saturday brunch.. they were accommodating, esp considering we were a party of 8 adults and 2 kids.
the ambiance is cute, and there's a good amount of seating. suitable for tenafly.
the food is delish. i had the croque madame which was tasty. everyone was satisfied with their meals. definitely at least 4 stars for food.
now to the service. which i do agree the service is lacking. we order coffee with milk and sugar.. so they bring the coffee.. but no milk and sugar? so we have to ask for it. my niece ordered pancakes..brings out the pancakes but no syrup? so we have to ask for syrup. my friend ordered the french toast with fruit and nutella.. brings out the french toast with fruit only.. then we have to wait again for the nutella. they were apologetic so i feel bad saying that the service wasnt great but it felt like one big waiting game. oh and i had to constantly ask just for my water to be refilled - which is just a personal pet peeve of mine.
the thing is that if you're going to charge '$$$' then i kinda expect a better dining experience. the food is worth it but the service needs to up their game.

i'll probably give this place another shot in hopes that they can prove me wrong with their service because i really do like the food!

I like this place. Service is strong, food is solid, menu is diverse and creative. There's something for everyone when we go here and they rarely disappoint.

Solid place... go for the burger and sweet potato fries. AND you gotta get the green iced tea. The green iced tea dominates any competiton. Don't expect a fancy place with fine dining service... go there for a casual meal with good food and a comfortable atmosphere. They tend to hire hot israeli waitresses... another plus.

Yes, it's in the neighborhood, and my wife and sons have been before.  But why have they been hiding this gem from me when we all ask where to go to dinner???  In an area with a paltry few good restaurants (and where the good ones are usually very expensive), Brasserie shined on many counts.

We arrived at 7PM on a Saturday, and our server, Julian appeared to have too many tables.  Yet he moved from table to table quickly taking care of all of us pleasantly and efficiently.  I started with the French Onion Soup, which was both flavorful and HOT (can't say how many times I've had lukewarm soup these days), and I ended up sharing with my wife and son.  Between the three of us we ordered the Asian Chop, a burger and chicken quesadillas.  Each was excellently prepared, the burger juicy and tasty, and the other dishes basically done perfectly.

    The prices were very reasonable.

About the only bad thing I could say about the place is that the cushions in the booths are in need of replacement.  Other than that, a great meal.  We'll be back.

TERRIBLE SERVICE, AVOID THIS PLACE!!!  Stood at the door for five minutes until they realized we were waiting for a table.  We asked twice for our water and coffee that we ordered,  took twenty minutes to receive the coffee after we sat down... water never arrived.  Food was extremely average.  I had poached eggs that came with a salad and some herb cream cheese.  Poached eggs were not good, more like a sunny side up than poached, salad was bland, and the cream cheese tasted like it came from a Philadelphia plastic package.  Will never be back.  Go to Cafe Angelique at the Railroad station instead or Miller's Bakery across the street.

WORST...SERVICE...EVER. We walked in at 9 even though the sign specifically says that they close at 10pm (IT'S ON THE DOOR). We were greeted with an ambivalent "we're closing soon, but we'll seat you/serve you."  Are you SURE? Pick one. We should have left then and there. Just because you're all under 21 and want to rush home to play, doesn't mean you compromise an entire business. The Owners should be aware that leaving their restaurant to kids to run is just plain stupid, irresponsible and ultimately, a big dent in their financial intake.

So...We were rushed and rushed and rushed, and we are always respectful patrons as my brother works in the service industry. We are not types to sit around and drink water while the staff wants to go home.

The cherry on top was when we were told we had to order dessert "right now" (with our entrees) or no dessert at all. We opted for the latter. And it's too bad because we were looking forward to their crepes.

But perhaps the worst of all was when the young Asian American man (who must have been the assigned manager for the night - he was terrible), came over and asked us how we were paying!!! We were STILL eating!! Food in mouth and all!

Since the place is clearly run by amateurs, which left the whole restaurant in charge to two young men who even had their friends show up and HANG OUT on the restaurant floor while we were still "dining," I'm giving this place one star.

We were stressed and rushed the entire time and we certainly didn't feel welcome. It was a shame because it was a very small post-holiday dinner that was supposed to be fun and casual for my family.

Nice crepes but on the expensive side.  Decent place.

I really like this place.  It is a little pricey but what place isn't now a days.  The Cobb salad kicks some ass

This place is really pretty, tucked around the corner from the railroad in Tenafly. It definitely has a nice ambience, with booths by a brick wall and artsy posters opposite. There's a counter with jars of cookies and other treats, adding up to a pleasant, relaxing cafe feel.

The food however is just ok, a disappointment.

We had a roast pepper, chicken and mozzarella sandwich, a burger, and the chicken liver with caramelized onions. I asked for the burger medium however it came out well done, and it was bland. The sandwich was bland too. The chicken livers were just fried with onions, and oily.

We had a nutella crepe with bananas for dessert, and that was delicious. The cappucino was done really well too. This makes me feel that this is a dessert and coffee place, not so much a mains place.

I noticed some others having salads which looked somewhat appealing, but were $13.

I may go there again, but will try something else.

Pleasantly suprised! Got delivery the other night, and everything was very good. The ceasar salad w/ shrimp was quite tasty (little disappointing that you only received 3 small shrimp for $5, but hey, what are you gonna do). Other highlights: angel hair w/ pesto, steak sandwich, steak frites, and the fish in brown butter sauce...i would definitely order from here again. One recommendation - reheat the fries in the toaster oven until crispy...faaantastic

An interesting place.  Nice decor and fairly good food.  We started with the goat cheese tart which was good (not great), hubby had the steak sandwich which was fair, I had the mushroom and swiss crepes which were average.  We shared a dessert crepe which was pretty good and a nice size.  Overall I would say it was OK and I might go back again if I was in the area but I wouldn't crave it.

So it wasn't the best restaurant on earth, but it wasn't shabby either.  Our plans fell through going to the new Vietnamese place in Tenafly cause they said they didn't take reservations but then there was a 30-45 min wait, BIG BOO ON THEM. Anyway, our friend said there was this place ,and he missedprounced it "Bruhzeer" like, the long word for BRA.  And we laughed.  Then we went and had some food.  My friend had the quesadillas and she liked them, her hubs had the Israeli beef thing and liked it.  My husband had the steak frite- which fyi is hanger steak, and said it was deliciously spiced but over cooked, and I had the goat cheese and spinach with bechamel sauce crepe and it was yummm.  However, my Lentil soup was watery.  However however, hehehe, my husband's Butternut Squash soup was off the chain delish.  Seriously.  It's a cute place, a little casual but really nice.  The service was ok, the guy kind of forgot about our water and had a little tude.  But for a casual lunch or quick dinner this place has some good options.

Wow, no one has yelped about this restaurant yet?? Unbelievable!!!

Delicious crepe and steak salad!!  I'll definitely go back! I recently found this cute brasserie in Tenafly and I was impressed with the reasonably priced menu. Most of the entrees are around $12-16, consisting typical casual brasserie food like croque monsieur, onion soup, steak frites, etc. The ambiance is European, casual, and cozy. Around this neighborhood, this is probably one of the nicer restaurants with outdoor seating. However, I must warn you that this place tends to attract lots of Tenafly moms with loud kids.

I highly recommend their sweet crepes, so good!!! Unfortunately the coffee was a "meh". Overall this place is a great find, it's a kind of place you are very likely to become a regular because it's affordable, cute, and delicious. Check it out if you are in Tenafly!
