This is some of the best barbecue I have ever had. The wings are enough of a reason to go - smoked and spicy, done just right. I had rib tips and a Carolina BBQ sandwich. EVERYTHING was delicious - the pickles, the slaw, the beans, the fries, the sandwich itself, and the bread it was served on. I could not finish it. The wait staff are pleasant and friendly. Ask them for their advice when picking something, they'll help you out and they won't lead you wrong.
Review Source:Great barbecue! Â Service is great and the food is spot on. Â The wings are the best I've had, Â don't order hot if you don't like hot...we do, and were thrilled! Â The ribs are delicious and the side dishes are made with the same care as the entrees. Â Clean, open decor, with an aroma that makes your mouth water when you walk in the door.
Review Source:I was there around a month ago. Â The restaurant is nice but I had the feeling the door man was annoyed I wanted take-out. The meat seems cheap. Â It was mostly fat. Â Had the Brisket and pulled pork. Â The cornbread was gritty and had no flavor and the mac and cheese was dry. Â Definitly not worth the 45 minute wait at take-out. Not going to visit again.
Review Source:The portions are more than you need but less than you expect for the price you pay. Â Service was good and the interior of the restaurant is nice. Â The corn bread is very sweet, which I like, and the brisket is excellent. Â The fries are a bit soggy and the sausage tastes like Shop Rite Italian sausage. Â The ribs are small but tasty and fall of the bone. The pulled pork is good but the cheapo buns turn to mush. Â Overall, good barbecue but some weak points.
Review Source:Brother's Barbecue is pretty awesome. I am a fan. I've only had the pulled pork platter and pulled pork sandwich yet. While I can't say it's the same as North Carolina BBQ I've had down there, it is quite delicious and in that Style. Â The helpings are quite generous. The fries are amazingly well cooked and delicious, the mac and cheese is extra cheesy. Unfortunately I can't recommend the cheesy garlic grits as they were grits, but little garlic or cheese
The inside of the new place is a little oddly laid out, but also a bit more like those open Texas style BBQ joints. I am not sure how the new Bar enclosure is going to work out either, it seems a little small and enclosed.
Service while sitting was nice and fast. Service at the pickup counter was also fast and convenient.
Can't wait till they get their liquor license and start bring in some live music!
I was a fan of Brother's BBQ before the fire and would eat there frequently. Their BBQ sauce is out of this world and I loved the pulled pork. I'm a big brisket fan and while I loved their brisket it tended to have a lot of fat included in the 1 lb price. I was excited to check out the new store opening. We ordered the 'eat like the brothers' platter. They were out of smoked chicken so subbed in pulled pork. I've got to say that I was really disappointed in the meal. The pulled port was extremely dry and the 'mound of brisket' was about 75% fat. Most of the meal was ribs. Not what I was expecting for a $97 meal. I used to be a fan before but not any longer. The prices are outrageous and the food wasn't as good. So long brothers....
Review Source:I first tried out Brothers BBQ a while back before the fire and remembered it being good. Â I had been watching the construction for a while and was axiously awaiting the opening of a local BBQ joint. Â So one day I called out of the blue to ask when they were opening and they had told me that they were having a soft opening. Â I immediatly turned the car towards Brothers and stopped in for dinner. Â Now mind you, Â I fully understand what goes into opening a restaurant and realize this is a time for both the kitchen and the service staff to iron out the kinks. Â (the purpose of a soft opening) Â Since I was dining alone I was sat immediatly and whished a pleasent meal. Â It took 15 minutes for my server to even acknowledge that I was there and take a drink order from me. Â I ordered my food at the same time so things could move along. Â My drink was brought to me quickly as well as some corn bread. Â The corn bread was burnt. Â My food arrived 25 minutes later, whith many appologies from the server (so much it was a bit anoying). Â I had ordered the 2 meat combo, ribs and brisket. Â The ribs were a little dry and the rub was off balanced, but with a decent smoke ring. Â Whom ever cooked the brisket must have known what they were doing because it was moist, not overcooked and had some great flavor.
Now, since this was a soft opening I could look past a lot of things so I decided to give them one more try. Â This time I brought my wife and daughter, 9 years old and can eat her wieght in BBQ. Â This time I wanted to try it all. Â We got the Uncle Max ( I think that was the name) It included pulled pork, brisket, ribs (3ea) Â and chicken (B/W) with 2 sides. Â I honestly could not eat the chicken it was so dry, even drowned in BBQ sauce. Â The pulled pork did not have any flavor and was dry as well. Â The ribs were the same as last time and my beloved brisket was so over cooked and dry it shreded. Â On the flip side the corn bread was delicious and my server was great. Â
So I really don't know what to think about brothers except they seem to have some consistancy issues to work out. Â Good luck guys!
We were big fans before their fire a few years ago. Now the place is rockin, redone completely, with a bar in the waiting. But there are serious problems. Now, it's a Friday night, and we want our bbq, right? So I'm going to call up and take a little 20 min. drive. Wrong. I call. No answer. Try again. No answer. FInally, call again, and after about 8 rings, someone answers. Quickly takes my order and then hangs up. Tells me forty minutes. Go up. EIght oclock on a Friday and the place is jam packed. There's a line waiting just for pick up. Finally get through line (including a jerk who butted in front of everybody, and another person who just up and left) and nothing's ready. We have people at this point who have been waiting for an hour from the time they called. I have a good picture of the kitchen from where I stand, and I can see why. The entire kitchen staff looks new and there's some dude who is just standing there for ten minutes hacking at a barbecued bone of something. This is not a well oiled machine, folks.
An hour after I phoned, I finally get my bbq. People around me? Orders are not complete, orders late, etc. Bad night, right?
Get to car, check bag. They charged me for three orders and gave me two. Back in. Pick up the order. I can tell you that if I got home twenty minutes later, i wouldn't have been a happy camper.
Get it together brothers, the food is superb, but service is half the struggle. No one is going to wait for an hour just to get your food. Takeout should be ready. The kitchen should look coordinated. Your workers should be straight, not high. It's not my fault you're busy. It's not my problem you can't answer your phone. It's not my problem you can't get your orders straight.
,I love this place. Their BBQ was good before the fire but it's off the charts now. It's the real deal holyfield that would make any southerner wanna smack his grandma. If you like your ribs swimming in nasty sweet fake sauce, go back to Minnesota because this is just pure awesome dry rub with the homemade sauce on the side.
They've been open about a month and I've already ordered takeout a half dozen times. It's a little bit pricey, but if you love authentic homemade BBQ lije me you'll pay the extra with a smile.
And the owners are some solid dudes who put their all into this place.
Eat here. Â Often. Â You'll be happy you did.
Went for lunch today. Had the brisket sandwich, good smoke ring, moist, tasty. Â That said, $13 for a brisket sandwich seems a bit pricey. Â $2.95 for an iced tea also is pretty steep. Â These are NYC prices for upstate bbq.
Sad to say, it was a better place before the fire... it seems like someone is going to pay for the new, large dining room and the wait staff, but it's not going to be me...
I'll be going elsewhere...
Welcome back to the brothers! Â
I love this place. Â It is a BBQ joint so don't expect a linen table cloth or white glove service. Â But the new dining room is big, well appointed in a hip-casual sort of way and nicely updated. It has just reopened at I'd say about 5 to 10 times the size of the old place so it does have a different "feel" from the old place. Music and lighting all very nice. Â The wait staff is still learning the ropes so give them a bit of leeway and you should be happy. Â On to the food.
Complimentary cornbread brought to the table was warm and very moist. Â Delicious. Â I had ribs and brisket combo and my wife had a burger. Â Both were excellent. Â Ribs are a dry rub that were fall off the bone and the brisket was very juicy. Â The have a bottle of BBQ sauce at the table that was sweetly smokey with a tiny piquant kick. Â Not vinegar based like the sauce at their old place. Â And it wasn't like the real thick ketchup based BBQ sauces from the supermarket. Â I had cole slaw side which did have a very nice sweet and slightly tart dressing. Also had southern style green beans which were delicious and very tender with pieces of bacon/ham in them. Â The burger was a good size flame broiled patty that was very good. Â Everything we had was hot, well prepared with nice sized portions. Â We were there a couple of nights before the official opening and were very pleased. I can't wait to go back.
A recent change in the on-line menu caused some confusion when I tried to order over the phone. There was not any degree of customer service provided. Just a sorry, that is no longer on the menu and we do not offer that deal. I was quite disappointed.
BUT, I decided to visit in person instead the following night.
The new place is nice. The brisket is good, but not super moist.
The ribs are good, however, they leave that thin layer of skin on, which gets kind of plasticy.
The sides, baked beans, good. Forget the cole slaw, does not seem home made.
Cheesy grits are nice and creamy. The tomato for the fried green tomato was awesome but the breading was a bit too thick.
The mac & cheese is OK, BUT it depends on which part of the pan you get it from. Ours came out dry. The table next to us was creamy and gooey.
The cornbread is AMAZING.
The only real issue here is the prices. Yes they are pretty big portions, but I would rather finish my plate there at half price, then bring home any leftover that I probably will not get to.
Two adults, three kids, ages 15, 12 and 11 and it was 106.00, without tip.
No appetizers, just meals and no dessert.
My son & I had wanted to try this spot SO badly before the tragic fire that left this placed closed down for over a year. Â Hearing about the buzz around town that they were back in business we made it our goal to visit, "hell or high water!"
I visited twice this weekend, that's how badly we wanted to go, and I have to say it's a really nice spot. Â I wasn't completely blown away to warrant a 5 star rating. Â I'll summarize my two visits in this one review. Â Half-rack of ribs was good and their secret BBQ sauce was on the money!
During my first visit I got a boat load of the complementary corn bread but on my second visit my initial basket looked like it was "used" with one half eaten so I sent that back for a fresh batch which was fresh. Â The burger I ate on day one was below average. Â It did seem like they used fresh ground meat but it lacked flavor big time!
On my second visit I ate the pulled pork sandwich and that was killer! Â Talk about Yummy! Â The food is above average but it's not your "fine" dining option and I did find it pricey, however the portions are massive. Â On my first visit there were a lot of doggy bags leaving with customers.
Overall, I was not disappointed and have to say customer service is TOP NOTCH!
I've got nothing good to say about this place. The pulled pork was dry and tasteless and the fries were burned. The BBQ sauce tastes like a supermarket brand. Surprisingly, the place burned down several months ago. Maybe they wanted to cash in on insurance since they couldn't profit from the food? Just my humble opinion of course..
Review Source:When you pull into the parking lot, you can smell the woodsmoke. That alone means they are doing something good.
When you walk into the cozy restaurant the decor is tastefull and appropriate for a BBQ joint. Â The space is small but friendly and it smells so GOOOD!
The food itself is a standout and if i closed my eyes and just ate, i could easily be in the southern us in any number of BBQ hotbed's, not in yankee territory in Orange County NY.
There are a few other choices for BBQ in orange county but you would be wasting your money if you spent it any where other than The Brothers BBQ.
My personal favorite is the brisket slathered with the home made sauce, a piece of cornbread and some mac and cheese. As far comfort food goes, this is one of my favorite stops whenever I go home.
love this place, it's small and gets packed so i usually take out when i head here. service is quick and friendly, mac and cheese, yams and cornbread are my favorite sides. you can't really go wrong picking a meat here, it's all good. brisket, chopped bbq, and pulled pork are my favorites. def try this if your in the area and looking for some good bbq.
Review Source:A sweet spot in the Hudson Valley. Â This probably one of the best BBQ places that orange county has to offer. Â As with many small, non-franchised restaurants, there are good days and there are better days. Â There are several variables that come into play when making tasty bbq. Â Sometimes the rub just isn't quite the same or maybe there were wood changes in the smoker. Â Either way, this place never disappoints. Â I've been here three times now and I must admit that not everything as been consistent. Â The first time I came I had the "eat like a king" meal. Â This is a sample of all the bbq meats they have to offer and your choice of a few sides. Â By far well worth the money for what you get. Â I had the mac and cheese each time I've gone there. Â The first time was amazing, the second time was good, and third time was okay. Â Lets be honest, if you work in restaurants, you will know that some food (especially side dishes) get prepped earlier. Â If people come to eat later they may end up with bread that doesn't taste quite as fresh, veggies that aren't quite as crisp, and mac and cheese that is a little drier than anyone would've liked. Â Overall, this place kills when it comes to making good bbq. Â One thing you may want to consider. Â They serve the bbq sauce on the side. Â This is debated tradition in the bbq game. Â Let the food do that talking though.
Review Source:We heard there was a BBQ place on new Windsor and went to check it out. This is a very small place - only a few tables.
The help behind the counter was clueless about the food and did the bear minimum to serve us. The prices were not cheap - but I always say you get what you pay for...
The pulled pork was dry and tastless. The ribs were dry as well. The mac and cheese tasted like it came out of a box. The cornbread was the only highlight - the sad part is it most likely came from a mix.
Stay away from this place
Who would have thought that in the middle of New Windsor, NY would be a really good, authentic barbeque restaurant. It's a tiny little place (about six tables) and it that fills up fast.
My friends and I wanted to try a little bit of everything so we did. We tried the chopped BBQ, ribs, brisket, pulled pork, smoked chicken, beans, cornbread, mac and cheese and cheese fries. Yes, I know it sounds like a lot, but like I said, we really wanted to sample everything.
My favorite was the cornbread. It was super moist and delicious. I almost ate the whole pieces myself! I also really liked the cheese fries. They were super crisp and loaded and I mean loaded with cheese!
The two things I think I would stay away from would be the beans - they kind of tasted like they are Campbell's - straight out of the can. Oh and the mac and cheese - Which I was highly disappointed in since mac and cheese is one of my favorite foods. It was very dry - which is surprising since the cheese fries were loaded with cheese. Maybe next time they should put a little less cheese on the fries and add it to the mac and cheese.
