This dive-bar lives up to the "dive-bar" mantra of having some of the cheapest and strongest drinks in the Valley with an easy going crowd.
There is only street parking, so watch for no-parking signs, especially on side streets.
The main bar is small, but spacious enough for maybe 20 or so around the bar and tables. Â There is also an outdoor patio that is covered and has a few more tables, plus a fire pit with benches. Â There's a smaller bar there, which may only be open when they're really busy. Â Many smokers use the patio, but it is so covered up that the smoke doesn't really have anywhere to escape. Â Not a big deal, unless smoke really bothers you.
I've only been here twice so far, but they seem to have an event almost every night. Â Drinks are always cheap, even when it's not a special or happy hour. Â The crowd is usually a friendly collection of regular and eccentric neighborhood guys and some gals. Â This is a good place to unwind, have a few drinks and maybe make a new friend.
A great little gay bar in the valley!
I stopped by one weekday afternoon and had a good time. Â The bartender, Randy, was friendly and fun, and the few regulars at the bar that day were welcoming. Â Not an ounce of pretension to be found. Â It's a great place to hang out, have a drink and make a new friend. Â The drinks are very cheap by the way.
While the crowd is mostly gay men in their 40s and 50s, there was still a lovely mix of ages and colors and sexual orientations. Â And everyone seems welcome.
I loved that one of the televisions at the bar was showing gay porn, while the other one was showing the Home and Garden Network. Â Perfect!
While I'm sure many patrons take home a new acquantance occasionally, this is more of a neighorhood bar than a cruise bar. Â There is no back room and I doubt any action takes place on the premises (perhaps late at night, who knows?) Â They have several themes throughout the week (karaoke, movie night, etc.) and a Sunday afternoon BBQ, which I hear is very popular.
Highly recommended!
Now, I love the Bullet, but I can see how it's not for everyone.
Its a gay dude's bar and plays hardcore gay porn on the TVs - which I LOVE! The drinks are cheap and well poured and the bartenders are helpful. Pitchers are sooo affordable - $8 for Fosters?! Woot!
They used to be cash only but now that they take credit - awesome.
They have karaoke I believe 2 nights a week... well Saturday day and Tuesday night I believe. Which is full of delightful gay men singing (showtunes usually) The crowd is nice as well.
I think on Sundays they do a "cook out" in the back where the cook up burgers and such... just a requested small donation.
Its a little small and the bathroom is always kind of dodgy, but otherwise good marks for this place!
ya know, for a divey alt gay bar in the valley, i totally dig this place. weekend beer busts are a great time, bartenders are always super cute and friendly and ya have a very neighborhood feel here. the best time to come is later in the evening, 11:30 - 1:00 ish thats when the crowd starts to thin and other subcultures come in for a nightcap to two, one night it may be a flock of wayword hipsters and another it could be a gaggle of voguing "glam goth" twinky princesses (no joke, i almost did a spit take i LOL'd so hard)
all in all, if youre bored in the valley, tired of driving to the Faultline or The Eagle or just wanna come to a great hangout bar with great people come visit this place.
While I'm not into the leather scene and the crowd isn't my crowd either, I do appreciate a good cheap drink. Â I'm not a talker, so I just come to hear some music and have a drink. Â Happy Hour prices are really good and the drinks are really strong.
There are a few bartender's here that can make a really good bloody mary. Â They seem friendly enough.
I have come here for Movie night which is great to watch a classic 80s or 90s film (with 2 cartoons to start). Â And the Sunday bbq is good for a free hamburger and homemade beans or chili. Â On Holidays they seem to serve food as well.
Porn plays on many of the tv screens, so if you are a prude - this isn't your place.
So, Bullet has really grown on me... Â it's a great neighborhood bar that has a leather feel to it... I often stop in during midday and enjoy my book on the back patio in the sun. Â I'm perfectly comfortable in short and flip-flops during the day... or chaps on an Saturday night... Â
Other reviewers are "on the money" that it's not a WeHo/twink crowd. Â Having said that, the bar is home to all sorts of people spanning ages, ethnicities, and interests. Â On a Friday during happy hour, you might see a guy in jeans and high-heels sitting next to a straight contractor at the bar, having a normal conversation over a beer...
Lots of different events - regular karaoke, movie nights, and clipper-cuts as well as parties for special events... Â One my favorite things about The Bullet, they think nothing about hosting a birthday party for one of the regulars!
Prices are more than reasonable, drinks are great. Â Bartenders are friendly and fun. Â
My point is - it's a great place to gather, meet guys from the area, and enjoy yourself. Â If you're looking to cruise or "hook up" you can find it there, but if you're just looking to sit by the fire and have a conversation - The Bullet is the place to be.
This place is super sketchy. Dive bars are usually fun and a good break from the WeHo crowd, but this goes over the line. In the four hours I was there, I saw pot smoking, meth smoking and someone offered me acid. A guy was getting a BJ in the corner and I had enough.
The drink pours seemed to vary on the bartender as did the level of B.O.
Seriously, I think I was the only person who showered that week.
Lastly was the cigarette smoke/ meth smoke / pot smoke. That back area was like a steam room of poison.
No thanks.
Update: Received this message from a bar patron and/or owner, ;'Bill C':
You':re definitely better off in WeHo. Your review is not accurate and I assure you that all of the customers of the Bullet would prefer you stay away.
Friendly. So much for a "neighborhood bar" or a place where "everybody knows your name."
Funny, he wrote an equally bad thing about a competing bar: http://www.yelp.com/user…
We were in North Hollywood recently and decided to check the Bullet out. I have to say this was one of the friendliest places I have ever been. People said hello and chatted with us. Â We had some really strong cheap drinks and a picture taken with Santa!
Defintely not a "West Hollywood" fag-chic bar. It was nice to be in a place where who you are and what you are wearing isn't important. Nothing could be further from the mind set of this bar.
The crowd is... inconsistent. Sometimes it can be *really* rough (drunk senior citizens in glittery outfits trying to hold each other up) or really fun (some of the karaoke nights).
My friends and I usually end our Sunday bar crawl here for the Arcade Bowling. We're kind of obsessed.
Bartenders pour really heavy for great prices - I'm never disappointed.
Stopped by this place on my way home today. I was nervous, I'd heard a lot of things about the crowd here, but I had a great time.
Everyone was really friendly, the drinks were both cheap and strong. I was a little caught off guard by all the gay porn being shown on the tv, and I couldn't stop laughing every time I looked. It was funnier because everyone else was so normal about it.
The yelp description says they accept card, but they don't. However, there is an ATM right by the entrance.
Also, I noticed the men's bathroom door doesn't lock. I dunno if it's supposed to, but... well, see for yourself.
The first time I went here was actually with Elizabeth T. (see reviewer before me). Since I'm used to the WeHo gay establishments, this was a definite switch...
Yelpers love their dives, which is why I'm guessing this place has such a high rating. Or maybe it's because, no matter how shady this place can seem it really is a relaxing place that you warm up to.
I enjoyed sipping my drink, observing the various personalities hanging around "The Cock Pit". I was here during daylight hours, so I have to come back to see if the The Cock Pit gets any more interesting at night.
The drinks are well-poured and reasonable in price. I wish they took card! Remember to bring cash.
They didn't seem to have tons of females and had an older crowd, but everyone was nice enough. Bartender is a sweetheart too. I'd go back, if someone made me, but it wouldn't be my first choice hangout.
The Bullet popped my gay bar cherry... and honestly it was a little overwhelming at first, I had no idea what to expect. Â
Minus the on-screen action and female-less crowd... it was a pretty typical dive. Â Save for the seedy appearances, everyone was very friendly. Â The bar tender Max was super cute, poured very generously, and even came out to light the fire for us. Â
How the hell did I end up at The Bullet? Â I'm still trying to figure that one out myself.
I've only been to this bar once. Last summer I took a vacation to L. A. and I just happened to get there on the night they were having their haircut night (I'm friends with Roger, the guy who does the cutting). I didn't get to see a whole lot of it on a busy night, but the crowd was pretty respectable. I'm definitely putting it on my short list of places to hit when I'm back in town for Bearquake this summer. I happen to like the aforementioned overweight men (though not creepy, but I suspect that that's a highly subjective judgment), and I have yet to find a better place to see them at.
Review Source:Not too bad for a hole in the wall. The staff is very friendly, the drinks are reasonably priced and the patio is very inviting with it's fire pit as the center piece. The inside is a bit dark and can get crowded and unless you're into creepy, overweight men groping you, stake your claim on a spot on the patio! I will say that the crowd is not very "female friendly" but then again it's still not a pretentious as the West Hollywood crowd. Overall it's a fun, relaxed place to have a few drinks with friends and I emphasize "with friends"; Because it's a local hang out, it tends to be a bit "cliquey".
Review Source:I can't believe I'm the first person to review this little gem.
I have so fallen in love with this place it hurts!
The staff and owner treat you like you are an old friend every time you walk in the door and the BBQ on the patio on Sundays is cool.
Drinks are strong and cheap.
They have various theme nights and events.
Even though there is only street parking it seems to never be in short supply no matter how crowded the inside is.
What I give props to most of all is that they cater to the deaf community (see their website).
