From the outside this place looks like a low rent Red Lobster.

However, while this is a fast food place, it is actually a lot better than I expected. They do have cheaper meals, but I got one of the "premium" plates.  I got the ultimate sampler, which was two fried fish, two chicken strips, two hushpuppies, four shrimp, and two crab cakes. With Fries and cole slaw and a drink it came to a little under $11 total (Large drink is about $2). These prices are comparable to Long John Silvers. It was a good deal of food for $9. Thats what you'd pay for a foot long meal at Subway.

But the food is better than Long John Silvers. The chicken strips were surprisingly good, as was the fish. The food in general is not as greasy as Long John Silvers or Red Lobster's. The chicken and fish were done well. The Crab cakes are baked inside Dungeoness crab shells (about 4 inches or so), and were very good. Probably the best part of the meal. I like the shrimp better than Long John Silver's (again, not as greasy). They were breaded instead of tempura'd or whatever LJS does.  The fries and cole slaw were forgettable, but not awful.

The place was surprisingly clean, and the staff was polite. The dining room had lots of booths and was spotless. Bathrooms were clean and well kept up as well. This isnt the best seafood I've had in Denver, but it is definitely best seafood that is *fast food*. Frankly, in a lot of ways the food was better than Red Lobster too, and far cheaper.

Straight piss.  If I could give zero stars I would.  Don't go here, save yourself the pain and go to long john silvers if you have to get fast-food seafood.

I can't believe I'm the best rating for the place, it really is not that bad.  It's fried fish in Colorado, what are you expecting?  I grew up on the gulf coast and expecting fish here in Colorado to be that fresh is just silly.  The hush puppies are good, and the fries are some of the best in Denver.  I absolutely love the fries here, but you've got to eat them pretty soon after getting them.  It's fried, you know that going into it, so I don't really understand the complaints.

This isn't the best place in Denver, not even the best seafood, but it's good and fast and reasonably priced.

Captain D's.... the D stands for deuce because that is what you will be taking after eating some of the oil fried not-so-goodness. After years of making fun of the place as I drove past, I finally decided to venture in. Kind of run down and in a weird location but not too dirty. Everything about the food is slightly below average, even the hush puppies aren't as good as Long John Silvers. And it's all so damn oily. The only upside is sometimes the food is cheap as hell. The other day I saw it was 10 shrimp for 99c.

So long story short, I wouldn't go back and I was right for poking fun at it all this time.

not bad. its a captain d's. the only one around i believe. staff's friendly. food cooked well. no complaints.

they did have fried green tomatoes at one point. i went back like twice a day and even made my wife go and get me some because i was too embarrassed. i think they knew as soon as i walked in i was gonna ask for it. they havent had it in a while though. and i havent had LJS in a looong time so i cant compare.

outside is a little old and run down. inside is nothing special: like a ship deck. not dirty though from what i can see.

but if im in the mood for some fried fish and hushpuppies soaking in a gallon of malt vinegar, you know im there.

The guy who reviewed this place before me must have been here BEFORE the renovation because I've been to this restaurant a few times and never had such a bad experience. This place is not Long John Silver's. You know this right away when you're driving by and the sign clearly says Captain D's. They are who they are and if you're expecting something else, then go somewhere else. First of all, this place LOOKS like a friggin ship deck. The food is fried seafood with a side of coleslaw, french fries, hush puppies, and a drink. You're going to spend about $10 for a meal because as I've said before, this is the middle of the country and all fish needs to be transported a long way, so give it a break if it's not the best. IT'S NOT. So you order your $10 combo and they carry your empty tray to your table. They fill your cup for you, and get any condiments that you request. I know that it's weird, and I'm sure they would agree with you, after all how many fastfood joints go through this trouble? I'm sure they fired the person who helped the Yelper before me, because believe me, they don't request a tip and even when they return with your food, they don't ask for a tip. The fish is ok, the fries are ok, and the best thing on your plate will be the hush puppies, but this place is not as bad as the reviewer before me wrote. Give it a shot, it's not amazing, but it's not bad either.

I remember this Long John Silver's-eque fast food joint from my days in Seattle.  I'm not a snob about it - I like the occasional visit to LJS for a plate of fried badness.  And when I was in the Pacific Northwest, this was a viable regional substitute for the chain I frequented in the midwest, when I wasn't enjoying actual, good seafood.

This place?  Not so much.  It seems like each food item is like LJS, but with something slightly wrong.  Fried shrimp were breaded too much and were soggy; the coleslaw wasn't that creamy; the fish looked like they were fried in decades-old oil.  They were stingy with the fries and the quantities in general, and the pricing was so-so.

The most disturbing part of this visit was that the staff were being way too nice: offering to get condiments, refill drinks, carry your tray for you.  Then I saw why: they were grifting for tips.  And one of my main, all-time, all-star pet peeves is when a fast food place either puts out a tip jar or begs for gratuity.  The reason to go to a national chain restaurant is because it is self-service, and doesn't require you to pay for service.  Maybe this makes me a huge piece of shit, but if I want to pay someone a tip, I will go to a nice, full-service restaurant and pay a very nice tip for good service.  When I want to buy a hamburger and be left the fuck alone, leave me the fuck alone.

The quality of the food gives this place a borderline low three, but the confusion over the service puts it at maybe a 1.5.  I know I can't expect much from a place that has a 99 cent fish plate on Tuesdays, but I'd at least like to not be hit up for money when I'm done eating.
