Some of the better tacos in town; definitely one of the most generous in filling quantity. Â Seem to get enough business/turnover to ensure freshness of meats and tortillas. Â Not destination-worthy, or best of class for anything in particular (like El Taco Veloz for Al Pastor, or Tortas Guicho for Chorizo), but worth popping in if nearby.
Review Source:Came here because of a recommendation from a friend. The restaurant is tucked in a corner of the little grocery store. Legit Mexican food, portions are large and very cheap! Their carne asada burritos were amazing - only $4 and stuffed lettuce, tomato, cheese, avocado, and lots of steak! I was definitely impressed and will be coming back!
Review Source:I've been looking all over for tacos this good. Hard to say which is best. Carne asada, chorizo and pollo are all excellent. Get several of each. Although be warned: they're big tacos. You can get four for under $8! Terrific value AND delicious. I may never go anywhere else for tacos. And being in the store is a fun experience.
Review Source:I've only come here for a couple of times, both of which I was purchasing groceries, but I'm already a fan!! It's kinda dingy but it's clean and there's a lot to look at. My hubby and I first came here for the 15 limes for a $1 deal. Hey-oh! Margaritas for the next week!!!
But really, the prices are reasonable. I went here tonight and bought some queso fresco for $1.99 and of course had to grab a Jarritos because it's hot outside! The produce is good quality for a reasonable price. I will definitely keep coming when I'm in the mood of creating authentic Mexican food, which happens often.
I will update my review once I try the restaurant,...I'm dying to try their fried pork skins!
This is my favorite place in the city, if not all of America.
The burritos are to literally die for. Â Like I would want this to be my death row last meal I think. Â So amazing. Â And they have Squirt in glass bottles. Â I just... can't. Â And it's all nestled between the pastel cowboy boot section and the pinata aisle, inside of some giant Mexican castle of a supermarket, like a block from my place.
Try the tiny restaurant tucked into the back of this grocery store. Â Don't come at high traffic times unless you are prepared to eat in your car or take it home. Â There are only about 10 seats in this place. Â However, the food is phenomenal. Â If you're on your bike, get the food to go and zoom over to the zoo or canal (about 3 blocks away). Â
My fav thing is the tacos. Â A medium appetite woman can eat just one. Â A big man -- maybe two. Â Make sure to add some of their homemade red or green salsa. Â They also have pickled jalapenos on the counter. Â If you like heat, try the corn, which is covered in crema fresca (they call it mayo), crumbled queso cheese and chili powder. Â They also have a pineapple drink that reminds me of an Orange Julius. Â
As for the rest of the grocery store, the produce is extremely diverse and pretty cheap. Â You can get 15 limes for $1. Â They also have mangos, cactus, tomatillos, and other Mexican-type produce. Â
The only reason I can't give 5 stars is that the place is a bit dirty. Â That said, the tacos are so good, I'll probably eat them if they served them on the floor.
So I wasn't sure I wanted to let this hidden gem out, but it wouldn't be fair to keep something like this to myself.
Carniceria Guanajuato is one of those simple, very unassuming places nestled right off the grid. Â The place is a literally a Mexican grocery store. Â The don't speak much English, but that's really unnecessary because the menu consists of 4 choices. Â Tacos, tortas and burritos and this really great corn with cheese and pepper. Â Of course you have options on what meats you choose (chicken, steak or pork) and there it is. Â
The eating area is like a diner that you find on diners, dives and drive-ins. Â You can sit at the counter top tables and see the 3-4 workers chopping the meat, putting your order together and presenting what will be some of the most authentic tasty food you can get this side of the border. Â It's really fast and sooooo fresh. Â You'll probably never want to eat chain Mexican restaurant food again after this.
It's really close to Lucas Oil Field, so if you're going to a Colts game and want to grab something quick and filling. Â This is your spot!
