This restaurant is fantastic. Located in the historical Scottish Rite Cathedral in downtown Indianapolis, it serves up both delicious food and a bit of history. Lets start off with the historical building itself.

The building is located along Meridian Street, which is one of the major thoroughfares leading into and out of downtown Indianapolis. Personally I believe that the building exemplifies masonry in a way that is unmatched by any other structure in Indy. From the moment you walk into the building, you will feel like you're in a museum. Beautiful paintings, perfected flooring, and the environment inside the building provides one of the most inviting atmosphere you'll find in the Midwest.

The restaurant itself is great. It's not a super fancy high end establishment. It's more of a cafeteria setting, in which customers carry their food to their tables on a tray. The country fried steak and mash potatoes make you feel like you're visiting grandma's house for an early dinner. The salad bar is as good as any, but you wouldn't know that giving the cost. It's much cheaper than a lot of lunch spots in the downtown area. The staff at this restaurant is a sweet as can be. I've never had a bad experience at this location and I typically eat here once a week. The only reason why I couldn't give this restaurant a five star rating is because they don't carry thousand island dressing in the salad bar area, however whenever I would ask the staff for thousand island dressing, they've always came through with it. When doing lunch on North Meridian Street, the Double Eagle Cafe, receives a very strong recommendation from me.

While I have been to the Double Eagle a few times in the past, this is the first time since I worked downtown and had access to yelp.

Located in the historic Scottish Rite Cathedral, the Double Eagle serves up, for a lack of a better term, yummy comfort food at lunchtime.   The price is right and you have the added benefit of eating in a beautiful building.

This would be a nice place to take folks from out of town, especially those with an interest in learning more about the history of Indianapolis.
