I was pleasantly surprised by my visit here. I had heard really great reviews, and then some not so great reviews, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I started off with a glass of Coppola Zinfandel, which was superb. When we were seated at our table (a group of 14 people, and service was still excellent, which is saying a lot), everyone ordered a shrimp cocktail. Holy moly, was this stuff addicting. It was so intense and full of horseradish heat, yet so so good, I couldn't stop punishing myself. I definitely cleared out my sinuses that night. I followed up with a filet and loaded baked potato, and chose the navy bean soup instead of the tomato juice. The navy bean soup was quite good, although quite filling. I was a bit sad when my juicy, delicious, melt in your mouth filet came and I was able to finish it all due to that darn soup. I would definitely order that filet again, medium rare, and enjoy every single bite. My side loaded baked potato was exactly what you want from an order like that, over the top and indulgent and so good. Everyone enjoyed their meals, and a lot of wine, and we had a very enjoyable meal. The service was excellent, and I would highly recommend this Indy landmark to anyone who has out of town company coming in.

Sweet juicy goodness popping in your mouth. You know those commercials on TV. Searing steak that pops in your mouth with a dash of salt and a little spice. Yes, absolutely. That is exactly what happens when you come to St. Elmos.

You know the waiter... the one that knows you but doesn't know you? The one that knows you have a pink sparkly VS thong on, BEFORE you put it on? Yep. That's the waiter we had. I came in and he knew what I wanted to order and how I wanted it. God, why can't you bless me with a man like this? Oh sweet Jesus!
Did he try and sell me with the Shrimp appetizer? Yes. But, I am one of those water wenches who doesn't eat seafood unless it's a hundred miles from the water. Capiche? When I want it good and right, this is the place in Indy to come.
Honestly, I didn't' think it was too pricey. Then again, it wasn't my dollar.

Traveling to Indy from Los Angeles, I have eaten here many times.  The bone in dry aged ribeye is maybe one of the best cuts of meat available.  Anywhere.  Even compared to Maestros in Beverly Hills (next to Spagos), this cut edges them out.  The reason is the dry aging.  Most aged steaks are wet aged, sealed in plastic.  Wet aging provides size (and profit).  Dry aging is like a port- a highly concentrated flavor.  You will not have a roast sized steak.  What you will have is a huge steak bursting with flavor.  I've had steaks from Buenos Aires (grass fed on the pampas) to Belgium and this particular steak at St Elmo's is in my top 3. You really can't get any better.

Service is exceptional.  Yes, if your by yourself at the bar your not getting the same attention as a table dropping a grand- big surprise.

Shrimp cocktail is very good but, IMHO, nothing truly remarkable.  I get it when I'm there - it's good - but don't understand the AMAZING comments from many.  It's fresh ground horseradish.

Wine selection is fantastic. If you're a first timer, ask for a tour of the cellar.

Cocktails are poured VERY generous.  You've been warned...

People who give this a one or two stars are, I assume, just deeply unhappy people.  One star is simply ridiculous.  If you complain about price, you should have looked at the menu posted outside before coming in; there is a Steak and Shake two blocks over.

Enjoy - get the dry aged bone in ribeye!
