Catfish Deweys

I'm a "frequent flyer" here.  This place is probably older than I am and the decor is proof!  But, if you are in the mood for some catfish, this is definitely the place!   Upon being seated you are served a big bowl of coleslaw and a basket of hushpuppies.  I love the hushpuppies!  (Note: If you like spicy stuff, ask for a side of the cajun cocktail sauce for dipping your hushpuppies)  I always order the 2 piece fried catfish filets with a side of grits!  My husband opts for the two piece blackend filets.  No complaints.  This is my "go to" place for my catfish cravings!  Love, love, love it!

I ordered the grilled snapper and my buddy ordered the all you can eat catfish. My snapper was OK but not overcooked. I have had so much great seafood during my 2 week stay. Mine was the seafood combo and came with large scallops and shrimp which were pretty good and much better than the snapper. The catfish was just OK and was over cooked. Tried hush puppies for the first time as they were supposed to come with the meal but were forgotten until we asked for them at the end of the meal. No Tatar sauce or lemons came with our food but it did come to others with the same  order as us.

I really wanted stone crabs but a single order was about $40 & all you can eat was $84.  Too bad there wasn't a sampler as maybe an appetizer. I come from Dungeness crab area (SF) and find it hard to believe there is any better crab and now I will never know.

An annoying air fresher that sprays periodically was mounted above us which we did not immediately discover. It left a bad aftertaste that stayed with us through the next day and was probably all over our food too.

We really enjoyed this place.  Yes, it's loud, and yes, it's a little divey, so if you're looking for a quiet or romantic place, this clearly isn't it.  We had the fritters (conch I think?) and they were outstanding.  I had broiled scallops & they were pretty good, but not  phenomenal.  My BF had the fried catfish, which was terrific.  Entrees came with a salad and a side, which were good.  I would definitely return.
