I've been to this place a few times since it's only a few blocks from where I live and I'll attest that for all the bad rating it gets, but...they stay busy. Â 2 blocks away from CSU and in the heart of collegiate type housing, C.B. & Potts provides what most college age people want, which is bar food and beer. Â Not to diminish the taste savvy coeds in their choice of places to squander their parents money, but if you're going to eat cafeteria quality food you can easily go to Taco Johns for a fraction of the cost. Â It doesn't take a Economics major to figure that out. Â Then you'll have a few extra bucks to pay for good beer somewhere else. Â
As active participant in the Colorado beer culture, I have to relegate my opinion of their beer to "meh." Â There are several other places in town to get more for your money. Â However, if you've never been here, you should try it at least once. Â There's no sense in not thinking for yourself. Â I'll just say that you should not have high expectations.
They had great chemical burgers, oops I mean cheeseburgers. I really appreciated ordering it medium rare and having it served to a burnt crisp, perhaps it was Opposite Day. Oh we'll, it's not like it was $13 for this frozen delight that tasted similar to Carl's Jr or Burger King (actually it was.)
Good thing this horrible food did not kill me because the service was so slow I might have been late to my own funeral. Â
How is this place jam packed? How can the people here accept such dirt poor standards? I may never understand.
My wife and I went to watch the opening weekend Monday night college football game. They had the game on the big screen, however would not change the audio from their radio to the game broadcast because "it wasn't a major enough game" even though it was an ACC Â conference game as well as a top 25 game. It was the only game on television and it was during dinner according to them as to why thy didn't want the sound of the game. I wonder what happens during NFL Monday Night Football? Thankfully we left and saw our team's first TD of the season elsewhere.
Review Source:You've gotta know what you're getting before you come here. It's somewhat of a chain, and kinda feels that way. The beer is decent, maybe on par with CooperSmiths (better than average, not great). The food is decent, just your run of the mill bar food. This place would be great to come and watch a game though, as TVs are just everywhere and it has that college sports bar feel to it.
Review Source:I come here about once a week only to watch sports. Â The staff is pretty friendly. Â The beer is pretty good, but a little pricey. Â The food, how do I put this, the food sucks. Â I have decided the only thing I can eat here are the chicken fingers, only because it is really hard to screw this up. Â I've had a lot of items off of the menu, and it is disappointment after disappointment. Â There burgers are inconsistant and sloppily made. Â I ask for medium, it comes out charred. Â Â I wanted something not so greasy one day so I got what they call a club sandwich. Â It was disgusting. Â Greasy, soggy, dripping with sauce. Â I debate getting a salad just so I don't feel like crap when I leave, but I wouldn't trust a salad from that kitchen. Â I guess this can pass as college food, but if you like decent food, this is not a place I would ever recommend. Â Go for the beer and TV's.
Review Source:We arrived at C.B. & Potts on a Thursday night which was their trivia night. Â For a trivia-night-first-timer I had a good time, albeit the obscure Top 100 Billboard music of 1999 questions and random Colorado fish questions. Â Some teams were obviously cheating, but the MC was fun and the company you bring should be more fun. Â The place itself is pretty large with random animal decor strewn about - large ram in the corner; huge shark with a CSU jersey hanging above my table. Â They also claim to be the tallest bar in the state.
The server was nice and our drinks came quickly but the nachos we ordered took forever. Â Never did I know that nachos could take 45 minutes to make. Â In any case, I am now the owner of a new beer bottle opener keychain after winning one round of trivia. Â Nice.
This is a college bar. They have low standards and pretty much expect you to either be too drunk to remember or just passing through.
Those are the only excuses they have.
I don't know how they pass inspection from the health department.
I lived in the neighborhood for a while and remembered it being an okay place to get a burger when I was younger. Knowing the young crowd, and the relaxed nature of the place, it seemed like a great place to get a burger on a summer evening.
I ordered a glass of wine, having few expectations... the glass still had finger prints and red lipstick on it. The poor waitress was horrified. She came back with another glass of wine 15 minutes later in a slightly more clean glass.
My friend convinced me to order diner, with hopes that it would be better, it wasn't.
His steak was extremely well done, my burger was raw, and the fries were still cold inside. It was the most disgusting meal that I have ever had at any restaurant.
I would only recommend it to those who don't care about your glass being clean or your food prepared properly. Which makes sense why their biggest nights are beer pong nights.
A huge venue with a sports bar vibe. Service was poor (hello...I've asked for that glass of water twice and never received it) and slow and food was meh (uber dry turkey burger, salty fries, pretty decent waffle fries with buffalo sauce and gorgonzola). Beer was tasty, but we're in FTC so locations with tasty beer isn't in short supply.
Walking distance to the CSU campus. Able to accommodate large crowds.
The Potts in Fort Collins is a college, campus area, sports bar at its finest. Â Sports memorabilia, TV's burgers etc, everything you would expect and ask for. Â The food is decent and their homemade beer is awesome. Â The couple of times I have been there have been for lunch and beers (of course) and it was pretty quiet but I imagine the place gets pretty rocking on Friday nights and game days. Â I dig.
Review Source:I've been there for their trivia nights and they are OK once or twice. Â They have some decent 100 calorie drinks which is cool, and some creative desserts that must be extremely high in calories - so split them if you go for that. Â never had the food but it smells really greasy, not really any healthful options.
Review Source:With me being the only trace of estrogen in a testosterone-filled home, you'd think we'd have a constant run of sports talk, a TV permanently fixed on ESPN, and a refrigerator full of beer. However, the guy-folk in the house are outdoorsmen-types who are hardly interested in watching the game, and I'm the one of two adults in the family who loves beer. Â So, sports bars are not a regular part of our dining repertoire.
C.B. & Potts is a glorified sports bar in Fort Collins. Â I say "glorified" because at their core, they are one of the best places to watch the latest sports game, but as a full service restaurant with a craft brewery built in, it's more than just a place to catch the winning score.
C.B. & Potts is a family-owned and operated pub located on West Elizabeth right by campus, that has grown to six locations throughout Colorado and Wyoming. They also have 17 other locations through their sibling restaurant "Ram Restaurant and Brewery." For 40 years, they've been feeding college students and beer-lovers food that is above what you'd expect from typical "bar food." In 1995, they launched Big Horn Brewing Company, a local brewhouse that has earned national recognition and many awards from the Great American Beer Festival - the Olympics of Beer.
Of all the beers from Big Horn Brewing, my favorites are their Hefeweizen and the Red Ale. For me, the others are pretty average without too many distinctive characteristics that make them stand out (even their porter which won a Gold Medal at GABF). Â The Hefeweizen is a glass full of incredibly bright, sweet and spicy flavor. It's fantastic. The Red Ale is a nicely balanced IPA with a hefty hoppy bite. I really enjoy strong bitter hops, and this made my mouth perk up with each sip.
While nobody cares about football, baseball, or basketball in our home, there is at least one person who cares a great deal about beer. I might not be drawn to C. B. & Potts to camp out and watch the big screen, but I 'd totally go back for a delicious pint and some decent food to go with it.
Grew up in Cheyenne with the CB Potts up there, and I remember it being a whole lot better than this original in FTC.
Grabbed a seat on the patio and waited for about 15 minutes for anyone to come by, luckily the other party sitting outside had their food brought out. Â We were close to ordering a pizza after a while.
Food was the only thing giving this place any type of positive rating. Â They've done a upgrade to the menu as a whole, but unless you've been here more than once in the past six years you'd never have noticed.
Beer is ok, but pricey. Â Service is nice, but slacking. Â There's better places to spend your money.
I have gone to Potts for years to play trivia on Thursday nights. About 8 months ago I stopped going because of the amount of cheating thanks to smartphones. Anyways, on to the review.
For food I give Potts 3 stars. There are some things on the menu that are really good, but some of the items on the menu you need to steer clear of. Â I think that the burgers are really overpriced and overrated. Some of the sandwiches are decent, but most of the entrees are overpriced.
The beer is brewed onsite and offers plenty of interesting varieties. I personally like the Colorado Blonde and the Hefe. There are usually decent beer specials.
The atmosphere is very sports bar oriented. If there is a big game coming up make sure you get there early or make a reservation, because the best seats are in the bar area.
I'm not into mixed martial arts, but Potts usually pays for the pay per view fight.
Hmmmm.. Â This is one of those places where I just don't understand it's appeal. Â The menu is typical, nothing special -- burgers, sandwiches, and random acts of mexican food and pizza. Â
Service is ok at best. Â Our server on this occasion was nice enough, just forgot to bring out a diet coke, and brought out an extra salad. Â
Finally, I'm not sure if its nostalgia, laziness, or lack of investment, but I don't think the ambiance of that place has changed in the 18 years I've lived here.
On the positive end, it's the best bar in the Campus West area, which is in dire need of better and more interesting bars. Â Also, I like the fact they have a separate building with real pool tables (not coin-op) and decent microbrews brewed onsite. Â Finally, they are willing to substitute fries with all kinds of sides. Â
The place isn't bad. Â It's just not great..
As soon as I arrived in Ft. Collins I soon found out that almost everything is closed on Thanksgiving. At around noon I was looking for a place to eat lunch before the great feast, and this place was opened. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich which was very tasty and my dad had a hamburger which he said was also very good.
Review Source:Very tasty burgers and a wide variety. Â The waitstaff, mostly made up of cheerful CSU students, is friendly and helpful. Â The fries are not particularly flavorful or crispy, and come in a small quantiy on your plate. Â However, the burgers, fish and the desserts (Rocky Mountain Potato and Mud Pie) are amazing. Â A good place to watch the game, play trivia or just stuff your face with a juicy burger.
Review Source:I agree with Claire... when I came with some people for a work lunch (including two bosses), and the waitresses' boobs were nearly spilling out of her shirt, it was awkward.
The first time I came there was a beer pong tournament upstairs, which was totally gross with the balls rolling around on the floor. Eww.
But the beer is good and they sometimes have sweet potato fries, plus the growler deal helps redeem the place.
