Sort of a side stop in our brew tour. Quite unplanned, quite unexpected and a hell of a good time.

We were in town the same weekend as Brewfest but did not attend. I think the local joints brought out their best and brightest for said occasion and we reaped the benefits.

After trying a flight, we settled on Rustic Red, Car 21 and Cache de Porter. All winners. However, the best came for by brother when he tried Near the Beach (is that right??) We were lucky enough to have the last glass in the tap and the first glass in the new tap. The difference was amazing. As the spices settled, you could really taste the difference from glass one until the last. He claimed it to be the best all round beer he had on the trip.

Our bartender was friendly, fun and knowledgeable and everyone seemed to want to help the out of towners find local fun. Great place!

Pateros Creek gets another star in my book after my most recent visit to thier taproom and a brief conversation with their head-brewer, Steve.  This particular visit was a encouraging one in that it would seem that Steve has some good ideas about his beer and how they intend to continue in the future.

One of my criticisms has been that they lack real variety and options that appeal to every craft beer freak.  As I reflect on this, it occurs to me that the brewery is not required to brew what we think is good, but what they consider good and worthy of their brand.  I can't critique their stragic vision; that's not my place to judge.  However, will hope that they decide to continue to venture out into more dangerous waters by brewing big, flavorful and off-center beers that no one else is doing.  One example that shows me that they are willing to make that plunge is their recent Rauch-styler ale that used 70% smoked malt!  Clearly this flies in the face of the status quo and I applaud them for it!

One more shout-out for thier Collusion Ale as well.  This particular was a huge surprise which dramatically improved my opinion of their ale offerings!  If it's still on tap the next time you go in, you'll definitely want a pint of it and maybe more.  Take my word for it that it is Amazing!  It's the best beer they have on tap at this time (IMO).

    Cheers!
