This is an awesome dive bar, I have to say it has FANTASTIC bartenders, great events, I had no idea about. This is not your mama's bar. I had an amazing time last night. I met some incredible men that can walk better in heels than I can, and I was born in heels. It was so fun. I met some of the nicest people I have met since I have been here. It reminded me of a flair of Palm Springs mixed with a little John Waters type filth. Why, I can't explain, I loved it there!
I was introduced to the Dirty Shirley, one of my new favorites! The bartender added a hibiscus cherry vodka! It ruled. I just recalled the Shirley Temple being my favorite drink before my big opening as a lounge singer when I was five, so A Dirty Shirley only makes sense! The DJ was awesome, the scene was fun, I got to play, and it has been a long time since I had the chance to play. It was great! I would highly recommend this place if you aren't homophobic, loud noise isn't an issue because you came to dance, so check the events for the evening, and if you enjoy a surprisingly delicious drink if you so desire, this is the place to be. I haven't enjoyed a business this much, since I left home. I will be back.
The only gay bar still open in Fort Collins at the current time.
For years I haven't gone in here because it seems like they never was really much going on. So I almost always moved on.
I also heard the stories that Choice City Shots was a lesbian bar and gay men that haphazardly walked in would get the boot by the lesbian customers. In hindsight I feel like a fool for even believing those stories in the first place.
The gay bars of yesteryear in town are either incapacitated or out of business so all the gay men that want to hit the clubs almost always go to Denver.
Just a week or so ago I decided to try Choice City Shots and how it actually was without making a preconceived judgment about by looking in the window.
As I thought. The place was dead. Just my partner and me. And the bartender. The bartender was actually very friendly and chatted up a storm with us that did not make us uncomfortable or annoyed.
The bartender explained to us that Choice City Shot's big night is on Thursdays where they do karaoke. That packs in quite a few from what he said. Weekends can be busy but that is not a given. Thursdays are a sheer bet.
In a way it is kind of refreshing to have such a mellow bar to go to. You can look at the signs and see what upcoming events are coming to the bar as well as with the LGBT community in town.
All in all not a bad experience at all. If you are looking for the heavy beats and throngs of people four or five days out of the week then you may be disappointed.
