Alright, I don't want to be so negative but I just have to for my review on Chart House. Â I haven't been here before and this past Wednesday was my first time and it was a memorable one. Â Yes, remembering the not-so-great food. Â We went for happy hour so of course, we were there for some drinks and some pupus. Â We ordered ahi wontons, teri bites, spinach salad, and calamari. Â The teri bites were tough and the teriyaki sauce just didn't sit well with me. Â The calamari was not crispy and it was soggy. Â The biggest disappointment was the spinach salad. Â We liked it but we realized that it tasted really like the Costco spinach salad. Â :( Â The only good tasting item was the ahi won tons. Â Crispy won ton covered with ahi and onions. Â Yum! Â I wish I had a better experience at Chart House.
Review Source:Good service, good food. Â They were a little slow to serve, but nothing unusual based on the number of guests they had. Â They forgot to serve me my second glass of wine and apologized profusely for it, giving it to me for free. Â The prices are a little on the expensive side for what you get otherwise this review would be five stars.
Review Source:The Chart House was amazing! Â Went here for my husbands birthday after discovering its location when we parked our car in the garage adjacent to Hawaii Prince Hotel. Â The sign lured me in because it looked like the perfect place to take my family to dinner, and it was! Â My husband ordered one of their dinner specials and I absolutely loved their arugula salad and pork chops. Â Our kids loved their Mac n cheese dinners and the desserts were fabulous. Â The perfect way to end our stay in Waikiki. Â If we're ever back on Oahu we are going to dine there! Â Amazing service, great harbor view even saw the sunset.
Review Source:Chart House Waikiki is one of my favorite places for happy hour/pupus. Â Just a quick note here - Chart House has a bar, a lounge near the bar, and a regular seating area. Â I think that you can only get pupus from the bar/lounge area. Â Not that that's a bad thing. Â The lounge has plenty of tables, a few booths, a view over the harbor. Â I say pupus, but with the serving sizes here, what you get is more like a meal. Â Some recommendations:
Pork Chops - I get these every time I visit. Â They're seasoned and cooked perfectly - juicy, and plenty of flavor
Garlic Chicken - A part sweet, part shoyu, part garlic-y, and all delicious take on chicken
Fresh Ahi Wontons - Fresh tuna diced and served on fried wontons. Â Great contrast between the fresh fish and crisp wontons
Firecracker Unroll - A firecracker roll deconstructed. Â Which gets you something pretty similar to a poke bowl. Â I have only tried this once, but the fish was fresh and I enjoyed the mayo-based sauce
Fried Rice - nothing spectacular, but a good fried rice and very generous portion. Â Great to pair with the chicken or pork chops
Happy hour is 5-7 or after 10, and parking is $5-6 if you valet or park nearby, or free if you're willing to find street parking and walk a bit. Â With great food, good service, and fair prices, Chart House is definitely worth checking out.
After a long day of island activities we headed next door to the Chart House for some dinner. Â Made last minute reservations and was able to talk the host into a table with a beautiful ocean view. Â I had the Opah fish and it was delicious! Â The service was good, the food was good, the ambiance was good. Â Left full and satisfied. Â Perfect end to a perfect day.
Review Source:I recently went here on a date and it was a very romantic spot...too bad my date was a bore! Lol. But the view of the harbor was lovely and the food was great! I had the stuffed shrimp and he had the stuffed ahi. Both were super ono, and had the same crab stuffing. The house salad was fresh and the dressing was homemade (very important to me.) It was served with asparagus with a little butter and lemon which is a fav of mine. The only thing that wasn't awesome were the mashed potatoes...just ok. (I make the best!) The service was friendly and funny. I will definitely...hopefully with a new date. :-)
Review Source:One of our favorite places for happy hour, with a broad variety of choices. Â We tend to order many small dishes to share. Â We like the poke, sweet garlic chicken, and onion soup. Â We used to always get escargot a lot too, just kind of got sick of snails, but they were good! Â Recommend it. Â It's fun, casual, with music, and beautiful sunset behind marina views. Â Depending on where you sit, you can catch a glimpse of Friday night fireworks too.
Review Source:If you love a great yacht harbor view, outstanding service, candlelight atmosphere and awesome Hawaiian music, this is where you want to be. I especially like the live music with Tito. The bartenders Guy and Jerry have been there forever, and always make you feel at home. I prefer the lounge area, and usually go there for salad and pu pu's (appetizers). I'm not a big fan of their food, but it depends what you order.
Review Source:Went to chart house for dinner last night to celebrate our anniversary. When we first walk in, there was no greeting, no acknowledgement whatsoever so we assume that it's open seating.
We end up sitting next to a bickering couple which wasn't so bad.(at least they kept is entertained while being ignored). So after sharing a menu to look over for 10 minutes, my boyfriend( who is a server at a high end restaurant) decided to fetch us a server.
We finally get our drink orders taken & the white Zinfandel was so flat, it tasted like watered down fruit punch or something. We came mainly to try their take on dry aged steak so we weren't entirely disappointed, yet. So we ordered the french onion soup & oyster shooters to start. Both were actually great. For the entree I ordered the prime rib sandwich. May I add that although there was live music & that usually attracts people to eat there, they were exactly slammed so their lack of attentiveness was really sad & I blame that for the reason my food was already cold. It was a pretzel bun &dried up cheese & cold prime rib for $28. The bf got their dried aged steak ( pupu style) , he asked for it medium rare; it was over cooked & needed seasoning! Trust me, we're not hard to please and because he worked in the restaurant business, hes a lot more empathetic for servers but even he was like shocked by the lack of service & quality of the food.
Definitely a first & last for us. Mind you, we still tipped over 20% but they really need to up their game especially since its a touristy spot. If they're going to overcharge, AT LEAST provide real service, after all that is the main reason people go back.
Apparently this is a local & tourist hangout that I just found.  While we just went for drinks (I had water, boring but that's me), we ended up splitting a teri ahi burger which really delicious!  It was very loud & hard to hear the person next to you but the music was enjoyable.  I wouldn't go here if you're looking for a quiet dinner...but I would  recommend it for a fun time!
Review Source:3 stars for happy hour only!!! Stick with beer as the pours are very weak! I actually think the bartender may have forgotten to put any booze in my drink....but you can't beat 6 dollars for the oyster shooters(3)...3 stars for happy hour only...i can't comment on the rest of the place...
Review Source:We came to the chart house on my husbands quest for oysters (you would be surprise at how hard it is to find a place that offers oysters in Hawaii)...he ordered oysters which basically ended up being 4 small oysters in tiny ketchup dishes with cocktail sauce on top. He said they were disappointing.
Lets get to the heart of my review: service And prices. I've eaten at chart house in two California locations and I've never, ever experienced such poor service in my life, not even at the bar. Our bartender at the waikiki location was rude, disgruntled and clearly hated his job. We ordered a blue Hawaiian that was WAY overpriced at $11 and which was saturated with juice and absolutely NO alcohol.
I've never been so disappointed and completely annoyed with a bar in my life. Just a tip: we have been in waikiki for a week Nd a half and let me tell ya, you'll be hard pressed to find friendlies at most dining establishments...where the f is the aloha, y'all???
Food was yummy, but in my opinion it was not nearly worth the price ($167 for 2 people- 1 small appetizer, 2 cocktails, & 2 entrees). The ambiance was quaint and traditional. It felt like "old world" Hawaii with an upscale touch. Staff was extreamly helpfull and pleasant. They also had a live band-somewhere in the distance...
Review Source:Not worth the price.
I feel bad I dragged everyone here. The menu sounded good and the photos of the food looked good. The calamari was salty and chewy, stuffed mushrooms where "meh", as were the stuffed shrimp. The clam chowder was too salty, and while there were big clam chunks they didn't taste that fresh. Judging from their pricing they are obviously very proud of their food, but I was unable to figure out why. Highlight of the meal was the mango margarita and the chocolate lava cake - both very good.
Overall verdict - Pass.
My wife, daughter and I had an amazing dinner at the Chart House tonight and we will definitely be coming back.
After our valet and snorkeling tour guide both commented that the Chart House is one of their favorite places to eat in Waikiki, we made reservations and arrived just before sunset.
We were given a table with a beautiful view of the harbor and all three of us were able to watch the sunset as we dined. Â The atmosphere is cozy, nostalgic and very island casual. Â Live music began at 6:30 and really added to the ambiance. Â I always admire a restaurant that gets the volume of their live acts just right so you can hear the music and still converse comfortably with those at your table. Â In short, the Chart House nailed the atmosphere from all angles.
The food did not disappoint either. Â The menu has an excellent variety of appetizers, steaks and seafood selections. Â They run several daily specials and also run a Special Menu of the Month, a fixed price affair ($52 in March) that features an appetizer, soup or salad, an entree and dessert. Â While we didn't go this direction, between the three of us we had at least one item from each course so I can definitively state that this is an excellent value.
Dinner started with bottomless bread, a delicious, soft pumpernickel that I had to stop myself from eating to keep from getting full before my meal arrived.
For appetizers, we enjoyed the Ahi Poke and the Black and Blue Ahi. Â Both were excellent. Â My daughter is somewhat of an aficionado when it comes to seared Ahi and she rated it very highly. Â I am just starting to experience Poke, but found the Chart House's to be top notch. Â
For Entrees we had Macadamia Crusted Mahimahi, Grilled Shrimp and the Filet Mignon. Â The steaks were cooked exactly to order (rare and medium rare) and were as good as a cut from any top steak house. Â The shrimp were huge, flavorful and firm and the Mahi was tender, juicy and perfectly crusted. Â Each entree came with a Caesar Salad or Creamy Clam Chowder and both were delicious as well. Â Lastly, each dish was accompanied by a choice of rice, mashed potatoes or fries and asparagus. Â We had both potato choices and didn't regret either.
Our server was extremely friendly and attentive and was also nice enough to warn us well ahead of time that their signature lava cake was a 15-minute preparation, allowing us to order it well enough in advance that arrived soon after we finished eating. Â It was a perfect signature to an excellent meal, warm and firm on the outside and perfectly hot and gooey inside. Â Be warned: Â this lava cake is twice the size of most, and is definitely enough for two, especially after the generous entree portions and bread.
I really can't think of a single negative. Â With gratuity, we spent just over $200 with very little alcohol (a couple of beers). Â I consider it money well-spent and can't wait to go back, maybe even this trip.
Chart House was wonderful and looking forward to visit here on our next visit. Â Great atmosphere and live entertainment. Â Beautiful views of the harbor and sunset during dinner. Â
First, we started of with Fried Calamari $8.95 and Half of dozen of oysters $19.00. Â Our entrees Dry-Aged Bone-In Strip Loin $69.00 and Shutome (Broadbill Swordfish) $27.50 which included either soup or salad and all the bread you can eat.
We didn't get the Lava Cake or Mudd Pie instead we ended up with Haagen Dazs Macadamia Nut Ice Cream.
Everything was well prepared and worth every penny. Â Make reservations before coming in for dinner otherwise, you will have to wait.
I went here for the first time last night and I LOVE IT!!
Their website gives you all the info you need from Open Hours to Menus and Prices.
We ordered from the "Special Menu of the Month"
For $52 a person you get to choose an appetizer, soup or salad, entree, and dessert.
They have a "Sunset Menu" that is similar for $30, it's just minus the appetizer and the dessert options are a little different.
Everything was amazing!!! Very very well worth it just for $52 a person.
We only waited 40 minutes for a table for 2 on a Saturday night around 7pm. The wait went by like nothing while we were sipping delicious happy hour drinks in the lounge. The staff was very professional and friendly. I loved that we got to sit right on the little balcony facing the boats in the harbor.
Anyways here's what he ordered:
Oysters Rockerfeller: Delicious! You only get 2, but if you order 4 from the regular menu its about $10
Crab & Shrimp Stuffed Mushrooms: This was awesome! Again you only get 2 but they're well sized and extremely stuffed with crab. Its served over mashed potatoes.
Clam Chowder: I'm not sure why, but I didn't care for the clam chowder. My husband loved it though.
Hawaiian Ranchers NY Steak (12oz): Holy SH*T this steak was amazing! I'm not much of a steak fan, I would be if all steaks tasted like this one.
Filet Mignon & Grilled Shrimp: C'mon it's filet mignon and shrimp, who doesn't love this?
Chocolate Lava Cake: Ladies this will satisfy your chocolate craving for about a week. That's all I have to say because words cannot describe the greatness of this dessert.
New York Cheesecake: I LOVE THIS CHEESECAKE! In fact, Cheesecake Factory needs to buy their cheesecakes from here.
I took my friend from japan for dinner last night.
The beginning the waiter explained about menu very well. So I said give us few minute for chose drink. He said okay. Suddenly the waitress who can speak Japanese came to our table. She start talking in japanese how busy today, explained menu again. She said order drink now because today is busy, we couldn't see any drink menu.
We order meal what we want. We did want to shire few plate. she said its not enough you should order more. How about this? or this? .... I said its okay she never stop.
Food was good, and it's was enough for us. When we got bill we were so superized!!!
She put it on how much is total and exactiry how much is tip....It's more than normal.
Just because Japanese doesn't know how to pay tip?! That's way ?!
So disappointed. I don't recommend for Japanese tourist.
Out of an old Hawaii Five O episode.. thought I saw Zula at the bar but he must be dead by now.. nice happy hour.. one of few places in Waikiki where you can hear Hawaiian music and have open air feel.. see sunset over the harbor.. wish there were more restaurants that were on the water...
Review Source:This place has been bookmarked for @ least 2 years & I finally used the holidays as an excuse to dine their with friends. The upstairs bar is very laid back and appeared to host a lot of 'regulars/locals' despite its proximity to a few major hotels & Ala Moana. After a few cocktails, we were seated for dinner and enjoyed the ambiance of open windows that overlooked the marina. I opted for the Maine lobster which was brought in all its glory. The silver platter intimidated the table, consuming more space than any other dish and I set out to harvest the insides so they could be bathed in the melted garlic butter provided. The mashed potatoes were smooth and the asparagus was prepared al dente. While I enjoyed it, I couldn't help compare it to amazing lobster I had during a neighbor island trip.
The wait staff was attentive and pleasant and while I'd return, I'd like to try other dishes.
Went here to celebrate a birthday. It was yummy...the steak was good, stuffed shrimp is definitely something to try. My sister in law ate the ribs and that looked good too! Â Our server was great too and they're good about filling up your water cup :) hehe!
Desserts are good here. The Creme brûlée was so good but wish it was warm and not so cold.
For the 4 adults and 2 kids out bill came out to $212...
NOTE: This is not part of the Landry's Chart House chain! We were told by our server that this was one of the original locations and was not sold to Landry's when they purchased the chain.
With that said, it's just as good as any of the other Chart Houses we have visited. They have a very nice wine menu that is fairly priced. They offer several menu deals that are really a screaming good deal for the price. You can also find coupons in local purist guide books offering a discount on your meal.
We ended up eating here twice during our stay on Oahu as it was quite convenient to our lodging and was really very good. As other reviewers have noted, the decor seems like something out of a 80's seafood chain restaurant but the food more than makes up for it! Filet and shrimp one night and crab stuffed Ahi on the next visit. Both were quite good.
Our servers were very gracious and attentive.Time your visit and seating accordingly and you can watch the sun set over the yacht marina.
Happy hour, 5-7pm, and again after 10pm. Â This location is independently owned, and like a time machine from the 80's! Â They have cork board ceilings in the bar, which is where I ate. Â The general decor is DATED.
The food was all OK, nothing special. Â The bar does have a nice view of the boats and the harbor. Â But the overall experience was just OK.
Another great Saturday at the Chart House. Â Jazzmane was wonderful as ever in the lounge area as our waitress.
I had the Ox Tail Soup and a friend had a order of Crème brûlée as we listened to Tito and Billy B play. Â
Both dishes were outstanding and would highly recoomend the Soup. Â The bowl was HUGE and had lots of meaty goodness in it.
This used to be a favorite hangout of ours back in the 80's. Â Food is always good.
It could definitely use a little updating with the decor and ESPECIALLY the restrooms. Â Even some of the staff has been there since the 80's. Â (which is a good thing because they are all efficient)
The only thing I wish was still "80's" are the prices.....whew kinda high. Â But that is expected for Waikiki I guess. Â
Our server was Rick...he was great. Â He explained the layout of the menu, and the different options. Â Food came out in pretty quickly considering how busy they were with the Aloha Festival patrons and all. Â Â They all kept our water glasses full and our drinks coming. Rick came to check on us several times during the meal, which is always a good thing!
I had the opah (fish) off of the regular menu and it was a very generous piece w/ lemon butter and caper sauce. Â YUM! Â Others in our party had the crab stuffed ahi, and prime rib....all the food was very nicely done!
for dessert we had their famous lava cake and mud pie to share....OMG Â if I wasn't so full, I coulda ate that whole mud pie by myself!! Â Note to self: Â next time eat at home and just go for the desserts.....on second thought, Nah, can't pass up the great food!
Parking was easy, just park in the structure and with validation it's only $5 for up to 4 hours. Â
Make reservations just to be on the safe side. Ours was for 8:30 on a Friday night, and it was very crowded. Â But because we had reservations, we had no problem.
So, in short I recommend Chart House Waikiki still a favorite after all these years!
I've been coming to the Chart house since the late 90's(really telling my age). Â I've always had great service. Â But last night my boyfriend and I took his cousin and his wife, daughter, and sister in-law to someplace other than an overpriced Waikiki dinner. Â So we get there and surprisingly we find a table. Â So we sit and at first our server was great. Â She got our drinks and it came in a timely matter considering how busy it was. Â But towards the middle of our dinner/pupu's she became stand offish and a little rude. Â
She (our server) was a "mainlander". Â Before I even go there, let me explain. Â I worked in the restaurant industry for over 10 years in Waikiki, and the stereotype of asians is that they don't tip well. Â I don't know if this server thought we weren't going to tip her well or what, but she didn't give us the service that she got tipped for. Â This is why i'm rating the Charthouse at only 2 stars.
The food was just like always...onolicious. Â We had the poke, soybeans, fish and chips, garlic chicken, fried calamari and some steak fries. Â And to top it off the orgasmic LAVA CAKE. Â After all these years, it's still great.
The live music was great as always, and because we went on a friday night we got to see the Hilton Fireworks.
Chart House Waikiki is such an unexpected gem. We keep coming back here and it is always a good choice.
We always go straight to the bar seating, which looks right over the harbor and has a late night menu, nightly dining specials, and a lot less fuss than the full dining room. In addition to the nightly specials, the standard pub grub --fish and chips, fish tacos, shrimp cocktail--is made at a higher standard. The fish and chips are actually pretty amazing when you factor in the view and the fact that they are $10.00.
I've been here five or six times in the last three or four months. My boyfriend loves it and its within walking distance. Its worth warning, though, that the atmosphere of the bar seating compared to the full dining is almost like two different restaurants. Really different attitudes, price points, and service standards.
For our 2 year anniversary, my BF & I agreed (or did he just let me choose?) to celebrate at Chart House. It was probably over 5 years since both of us had dined there, so I was looking forward to it!
We had 8 o'clock reservations and I requested for a table with a view...which is what we got! Unfortunately, we missed the Hilton fireworks (it was Friday) & our view also included all the tour buses driving by, it was still a romantic night!
We both decided to each get their set menu which includes choice of appetizer, soup or salad, main course, and dessert - yes; we were stuffed at the end of dinner!
I chose: stuffed mushrooms, French onion soup, filet mignon w/shrimp, and their chocolate lava cake. My BF got the firecracker unroll, clam chowder, some kind of steak (sorry, I can't remember!), and their cheesecake. Everything was so delicious - my filet was cooked to medium rare perfection! Top it off with a bottle of cabernet souvignon and I was in heaven :) I couldn't finish my steak, but I think if we didn't have all the other apps, I would've been able to!
Service was very attentive - it was pretty busy, but we were seated right away, our waiter was nice and helpful and our water glasses never went empty!
Classic place to get pupus, drinks, and even some dessert (LAVA CAKE). Place has an old touristy feel, as it's in Waikiki, but it's nice to cruise the bar area from time to time.
The firecracker unroll is a must-get, as are the steamed clams. Oyster Rockefeller are equally delish. If you see something that looks good on the menu, it probably is. ORDER SOME!
The drinks can be, surprise surprise, kinda pricey compared to other bars, but chart house just has a fun vibe to it.
The live entertainment spruces up the atmosphere. Way better than the techno-thumping that most places have these days. Don't get me wrong, bass is good, but not when I wanna just cruise around with friends and have a drink or two.
BEST PART = dessert. Get the lava cake. It takes about 15 minutes to get this thing cooked up - chocolate cake with hot fudge inside, served with ice cream, nuts, and berries. Breaks my mouth every time. Do yourself a favor and just order it!
In sum - mellow vibe, especially with a nice sunset. Good company, good food, how can you go wrong?
Chart House is an interesting place. I'd classify it more a pupus place than a restaurant. Some of their food is great, and some of it not so great. Drinks are nice and alcoholic and they always have live music around sunset. If you sit on the patio you have a nice view but the back of the restaurant is dark and dingy.
Great fried zucchini served with creamy cheese sauce instead of the normal mariniara. Chop steak is tangy with onions and peppers. French onion soup could be better. Everytime I order loco moco I ask for my meat well and it comes out blue rare-disappointing. Desserts are pretty yummy. But hands down best thing on their menu is their caesar salad. Mmmmmm, now I kinda want one!
Chart House, I never did you justice, you were like the person I always saw and said Hi to but never struck up a conversation and I failed to see your depth. I used to go to this place all the time three or four years ago because my friend used to bartend there. It was usually later in the evening as I didn't get off of work until at least 10. Chart house as a pau hana is definitely a good call. They've got really good pupu style food, Oyster rockafellas are a must, spinach and hollandaise blended and baked perfectly....how can you go wrong?? Poke and sashimi is really fresh and I am a huge fan of the spicy ahi unroll which is pretty much a spicy poke bowl.
I recently dined here twice within the two months and actually ordered off the menu. I must say that Chart house has some really good sea food and I was more than surprised at the quality. I ordered stuffed shrimp which also had hollandaise sauce on it, the first time, although it was very good, it can be a little rich and the prime rib the second time which is really hard to mess up in my opinion. But it came out cooked perfectly. The surprise dish which literally blew me away was my friend's fish dish, I think it was chilean sea bass, but holy hell was it extremely moist and flavorful.....and I usually never get fish as my entree but I'd come back just for this dish. Seriously it was that good, probably one of the best fish dishes I've ever had period.
Another good thing about chart house is although the parking can be a little tricky at least its on the corner and edge of Waikiki so you're not in the middle of all that commotion.
Very different than I had pictured it. Then again, we did sit in the lounge, as opposed to the restaurant proper. And it was happy hour, so we just ordered off that fairly extensive menu, which made it decidedly less pricey than other reviewers described. Speaking of which, we didn't have the same service experience as many others. There were clearly too few servers working for the amount of tables filled. Our waitress didn't visit very often, though she was nice enough when she did.
We had the Ahi Tuna Wontons, Ahi poke, escargot, fried calamari, caesar salad, and lava cake. All were really good, especially the ahi dishes. The lava cake is worth it and quite huge, so definitely one to share. It was about the size of a grapefruit with two huge scoops of vanilla ice cream (would have been nice if it was vanilla BEAN).
It was my first time at Chart House Waikiki last night with a couple friends after work. I'm very glad to have finally went because I was very happy with the service, food, and ambiance. Definitely one of the best restaurants I've been to in a long time with everything being just right for me!
I believe our servers name was jaz. She informed us of the evening happy hour which is daily after 10 pm. Â She was very attentive and made sure that we were well taken care of. Beers came out quickly which is very important when it comes to enjoying happy hour. Food on weekends is served till 12:30am and she did a great job making sure everything was of satisfaction. She was very friendly and portrayed an enjoyment for working there.
We didn't order too much food, actually just one thing, but we had 3 orders of it! Fresh salmon sashimi with wasabi and soy sauce! I understand that it is a very simple dish, but the grade of salmon was awesome! Very fresh! Hopefully we decide to try something else next time if we can some how get away from the salmon! If you're gonna be paying for something, quality is just so important!
Did I mention the ambiance was just perfect? They had a live band playing some local music for easy listening and dining. Jaz had sat us in the very back corner of the restaurant on the lanai, which I think may have been the best seats in the restaurant. We could see some of the pedestrian traffic walking around beneath us, could hear the music of the band, but could still converse without raising voices. Dimly lit with a nice breeze, it was very relaxing.
I definitely see us coming back! Great job to Jaz and Chart House Waikiki! Wish I checked you guys out sooner!
Tasty steak, and a swanky-cool atmosphere that makes you feel like you have a boat, whether you really do or not...
I tried Chart House for the first time last night. I'm definitely a fan. Inside is dim and cozy, and you're surrounded by all these rough-hewn, dark-stained wooden railings reminiscent of the gunwales of the Black Pearl. In fact, I expect this is the place Capt. Jack Sparrow would take a date when he really wanted to crank up the intimacy. There's a huge fish tank and a bar to keep you occupied until your table's ready, and it wasn't 30 seconds before the folks sitting at the bar (I figured they must be regulars) were making room for me to sit among them, and then chatting me up.
Eventually the table was ready: Window (sans glass) table overlooking the marina. Gorgeous. If you go, make a reservation ahead of time and ask for a window table--it's worth the wait. The sun was setting, the water in the marina was calm as glass, and this combined to make for some really cool scenery as I'd stare at the boats, their reflections, and the disappearing auburn sun all at once. Alan was our server, and he appeared promptly with bread and an offer for drink orders. Can't say enough great things about Alan. I expect he alone is reason many folks return.
I was being treated to a belated birthday dinner, so I was allowed to "order up." I had a 16-oz ribeye with garlic mashed potatoes and a cup of clam chowder. All was fabulous. Steak was cooked to my liking (medium rare), although I typically don't go for the charring on the outside that many upscale places do. (This isn't a knock on the Chart House, though. Maybe I just don't know how to properly appreciate top-shelf cuts of beef.) All that said, it was tasty, and it was served with a side of au jus and some horseradish sauce.
After dinner, Alan talked us into splitting their signature dessert: the chocolate lava cake. Wow. I've had chocolate lava cakes at other places, but Chart House's leaves them in the dust. Each is made to order, so you have to wait about 10-15 minutes for yours to arrive. But every precious second is worth it. It arrives hot, cooked perfectly, and it's served with two scoops of vanilla ice cream. The "lava" inside isn't at all runny, and the cake holds its shape really well as you eat into the thing. Do what you must to save room for this delicacy--it'll make your night!
Service was fantastic. I've already talked about Alan, but several other staffers were buzzing about our table from time to time to refill water glasses, take drink orders, bring bread, clear plates, etc. Everyone was attentive without being overbearing. I really felt like I could sit back, relax, and enjoy my meal, view, conversation, and company without being interrupted.
Do save your money, though. This place ain't cheap. You might not expect prices so high given the casual atmosphere, fun island live music, and laid-back feel. Just to put it into perspective: My steak alone was $47. Granted, we were splurging for a night, so we knew what we were getting into. But if you head this way, do plan to shell out some clams. So long as you're in that mindset, I don't think you'll have a bad time. Chart House is an easy recommendation for anyone looking for an occasional romantic evening. Â
I'm going to start putting aside some more money, but I'll be back!!! Â :)
It falls around 3.5-ish, really.
A friend stood me up the other night, at the last minute...i just got home from work he says, can't go out (insert sad little emoticon here). Â Arg. Â Sometimes I'd like to murder the inventor of the emoticon. Â So I took off on foot to the Chart House. Â I'd been there a number of times, and I agree with the comments on the decor: tired, tattered, seen better days. Â And it does cater to the casual marina crowd. Â But the food is quite good and economical. Â Specials abound. Â And you can even find the occasional gem on the wine list.
So, there I was at the bar. Â Guy, the bartender, Â was working...he's a fixture, been there for nearly 3 decades. Â Prosecco was my drink of choice. Â A few bubbles to chase away my frustration, and it worked. Â The steamed clams were on special so I was in. Â I usually have the escargot...I believe that Chart House has the best escargot in town. Â If you like those little mollusks, give them a try. Â Tender, well seasoned, lots of butter and goodness. Â Plenty of bread to seal the deal. Â Yum. Â The clams were noteworthy too. Â 20-30 clams in a nice wine butter jus, cooked to perfection. Â The sauce was so good that I used the soup spoon he left for me..very good and definitely gluttonous, oy. Â
I've also had the fish, poke, sashimi and seared, and it's top notch. Â Fresh, well prepared, inexpensive.
Would I recommend it? Â Yes. Â Good value. Â Great sunsets. Â Local color. Â It's not fancy but it caters to the "Wedding Singer" in all of us. Â Cheers!
Came to Chart house on a whim. There is road work around this area so expect a lot of traffic. You can park on the street or in the building but I suggest parking on the street because it's only $1 an hour after a certain time I think 7PM but don't quote me on it. The restaurant was pretty empty when we arrived and it was open seating. There was also a live band playing. It was really chill ocean view (there is a lot of boats covering the full ocean) seating and very dim lighting. Â
We ordered from the happy hour menu and their daily special priced items. I got the merlot, while my other friends ordered the long island ice tea (which is actually a tiny cup, so we called it a short island ice tea), and  the lava flow. The lava flow was really expensive 10 bucks for a glass. It tasted really good though like strawberry slush. For food we just got the Nachos and the pork chops. The porkchop was really tasty I think it's better than side street inns. The nachos were whatever I'm not a big fan of them. Â
Minus stars for a very expensive happy hour. It cost 52 bucks for two pupus and three drinks. It was very hot as well. I don't suggest going on a hot day as there is no AC. Also everything is very old including decor and furniture. Probably would not come here again .
