Went on a weeknight, service was a little awkward - barely had an opportunity to take a SINGLE bite of our food and they were already back like methodically doing "rounds" - "Is everything good!?" ....... Well - not sure yet.... you just set it down.

They changed their salsa - it's better now, which is nice. Not crowded - got a booth immediately.

So it's been a little less than a year since my last review. I've been to this location about 3 times now and sadly, it's gone from good to what the heck?

Tonight was a real disappointment. I went with the husband and was sadly disappointed in the food and the service, and management was just..I don't know.

The waiter seemed eager, maybe a little eager to get our order. I was fine with the drink (cranberry lemonade was really tasteless though), but the food was just lacking. My enchilada was cold nearly all the way through except where it touched the tamale and the taco I got - I'm sorry, but carnitas should have SOME meat, not nearly half of it fat.

I tried twice to tell the waiter there was a problem but he was running around. Even when I left half of my meal on the plate, and someone I assume was part of management walked by to ask how the meal was, they directed the question to my husband, and completely ignored me. When I tried to say something, he just walked away. The waiter didn't even bother to find out how my food was, just whisked the half eaten plate away. Not even asking if I wanted a to-go box. Maybe it was my fault for not going with my default fajitas.

Something tells me that this place has suffered some serious problems over the last few months. It wasn't even busy for a Thursday night at peak dining hours (we were there around 6:30pm or so).

Guys, what's happened? You used to be my favorite place. I've been to some of the other locations (Ellisville, Hazlewood) and the service is awesome. I guess I'll have to drive a bit further to get some decent service there.

I was pleased with the number of vegetarian options on the menu. Our waiter was extra helpful and pleasant. We sat outside and had a house margarita with our food. This is pretty good as far as Tex-Mex goes.

I have always been a fan of Chevy's, they have some of the best salsa around, (love that fire roasted taste). for Americanized Mexican food, Chevy's IS the best place to go, their food is consistently good, and service for the most part is always on par and without problems or aggravations.

This is one of the best locations in the city limits,  the building resembles an old aircraft storage building. nice prices and a good selection on the menu make this a great place to have dinner/ lunch..   The cost is inexpensive, and the value is incredible, with nice sized portions, and each dish is tasty and full of flavor, you will most definitely leave there satisfied.. and like you got your money's worth.

Chevy's is always a go-to every couple of weeks for my family.  The place is huge, you never have to wait for a table, they bring homemade chips and salsa to your table, and the staff is always friendly.  The food is good and it comes in the blink of an eye.  No, it's not "real" Mexican food, but it gets the job done!

So with Casa going out of Business recently and having only some not so great Mex-food places around us we find our selves here allot.

I love the chips and Salsa so much that I really just need to avoid this place because I swear I gain 5 pounds every time we go just from Chips. The salsa is made Fresh every day (or at least that's what I have heard) I love the roasted flavor in the salsa and the heat.

I love the Mesquite grilled steak tacos, they are so good.
I actually like this place more than I ever liked Casa (RIP).

Wow. We came for dinner and had some of the worst fajitas we ever had.
My meal started with a weak margarita. There were hardly any liquor in it. However it wasn't very expensive so no big deal. My shrimp fajita was just terrible. It shouldn't have been called a fajita at all! None of the components (shrimp, peppers, and onions) had been grilled at all. It looked and tasted like they were all boiled and then hastily presented on a sizzling skillet. The corn muffin, which I always loved the few times I've eaten at other Chevy's, wasn't right either. It was way too moist, almost wet.

Very disappointing meal...this may be the last time I ever visit a Chevys.

My husband and I visited this Chevys location for lunch last Friday (before all the madness of Christmas weekend began). We got off work early for the holiday weekend so we stopped in Chevys for some drinks and lunch before finishing up our holiday shopping that afternoon. We waited a few minutes to be seated as there was no one at the host/hostess stand when we walked in, but once we were seated we received excellent service from our server, and our food came very quickly. Our server constantly checked back with us to make sure that we were doing alright. We were in and out in no time, but we did not feel rushed by any means. This is one of our favorite Chevys locations.

Chevy's. YUM!!! Great service, great food. I love the chips with salsa, with the perfect amount of "that's spicy". I ordered the shrimp fajita, and  from being beautifully prepared, to tasting like the best Mexican ever, I LOVE CHEVY'S!!!!!!!!!! My go-to Mexican, LOVE IT!!!

Met a friend last evening for drinks and apps. Specials in the "bar only" are pretty amazing. $2 margaritas. All quesadillas are $2 off, and there are various apps for $5, including nachos grande and chicken taquitos.

I got the nachos grande with both chicken and beef. Comes with sour cream and guac. It was a massive amount of food on a large platter, and I took more than 3/4 of it home.

Total bill with tip = $12.

This Chevy's is SO MUCH better than the one at the Mills.  I've never had to wait for a table, it's huge inside.  Great options for a happy hour too.

The salsa is pretty darn tasty and I'm absolutely addicted to the tableside guacamole.

I wouldn't go here if I'm in the mood for authentic mexican, but if I want something deliciously fried and covered in cheese, Chevy's hits the spot.

I once went to the Chevys in Manhattan near Times Square, but my experience was ruined by the fact that they print the number of calories that are in each entree.  Thankfully the laws that shatter the blissful ignorance of the masses have yet to make their way to Missouri, as the food here is high in calories, filling, and all-around satisfying.  Yes, this is no place to go if plan to stick to a diet.

My fiancée and I went to this Chevys at the early hour of 11:15 AM.  We skipped breakfast and were hungry, so the early hour didn't seem so strange.  Obviously, coming to Chevys so early was an easy way to get good service; there was literally no one else in the restaurant until we were about half way through our meal.

My fajita burrito and the sides (rice and beans) were great, and so were the chips and salsa served before the meal.  The service was excellent, and a full five stars would be given if their prices were a little more affordable (expect to pay about $15 a plate when all is said and done) and they had a lunch menu.  If situational stars could be awarded, I would give it five for being the best hangover food served by a popular chain family-dining restaurant.

It's Chevys. Do I really need to tell you about my dining experience, lol.
It's a chain restaurant so for what it's worth yes I do like thier food and it's perfect for kids. I don't like Casa Gallardo....down side there's only few Chevys.

This is a convenient location just off of Hwy 170 with a little outdoor area and a large indoor dining room.  They make fresh chips here and will even make your guacamole fresh table-side.  It's fun to do once but a little pricey to do often.  And I have to say I rarely see other tables getting it.

The combo platters are pretty good and a decent value, so I would definitely recommend them.  Chevy's tacos are a weird long thin shape, but it's handy because the shape keeps it from breaking too easily.

Sign up for their e-clubs.  You get a free entree on your birthday among other email deals.

This location is very open and clean. Typically the staff is friendly and service is good. I'm not a huge fan of the food...it reminds me of Chilli's with a few more spices. I had the veggie fajita last time and enjoyed it, however. A good spot to take a relative/aquaintance for a quick bite on your way up to the airport. Watch out for the margaritas! Ay caramba they're strong!

Now that I have some street cred on Yelp after undeservingly being ROTDed, I am finally writing the review I've always wanted to write.

I don't claim to be a foodie or an expert in fine dining. I'm just the girl-next-door, and I'm gonna be 100% honest with you: Chevy's is my favorite chain (or maybe even non chain) restaurant. Of all time. Of all places.

Fellas, not all at once. I'm sure this information is making you want to get with me right now.

Okay, for those of you turning up your snooty noses, let me break it down for you.

The food: Gooooooooooooooooooood. Fresh. Exciting. Big menu. Authentic? No. Who cares? Not me. And not you either. Let it go. Look yourself in the mirror and repeat after me: "I am not too awesome to eat at Chevy's. I live in f-ing St. Louis, I drive an f-ing _______, and nobody's going to take me off their Christmas card list if they find out I ate at a chain restaurant." It always baffles me how people are willing to eat hotdogs at Costco, but not go to a chain restaurant. Like, if more than one person has heard of it, it's not cool anymore??? That makes no sense. In fact, the exact opposite is true, IMO. This restaurant was so awesome, they decided to open them up all over the place. That screams "winner" to me.

The service: The same, if not better, than you would get anywhere else. Yes, it's the kind of place where the poor schmucks who work there have to clap and sing if it's your birthday. Pleasure derived from misery of waitstaff= Winning.

The layout: I am not kidding, this place would be great for a date. Am I weird for thinking that?????  LOVE the atmosphere, great for a family get together, date, or whatever. I've even been known to come here alone (yes, I'm THAT girl) and work on my laptop. Slightly loud, and pretty open. Love it. Those of you wrinkling up your faces, trying to imagine yourself going on a date at a chain "not-even-real-Mexican-food" restaurant, just shhhhhhhh. Take your meds and type 9119 Olive Blvd. into your GPS.

I think what I love most is the consistency. Consistently great service. Consistently great food with lots of great menu choices. Relaxed, casual, but exciting decor/atmosphere. What's not to love?

Thank you, Yelp, for not shunning a reviewer who gets her jollies at Chevy's. Someday you'll be lucky enough to date a girl like me and be exposed to the culinary wonders that await you on my side of the tracks. Now if you'll excuse me, there are five McDonald's  and an Arby's awaiting my review.

P.S. I've seen so many hot people with actual lives mingling at Happy Hour here as I get takeout for one to bring home to eat alone with my cat. If you have a life, this definitely seems like it has potential as a Happy Hour destination. If you have no life, don't worry, they have takeout.

Hehehe...so I recently went to Chevy's for the first time with my mom who is a self proclaimed hater of "Real" Mexican food.  I grew up eating home style authentic Mexican food from my dad's side of the family, all of whom are from Mexico City.  My mother on the other hand was born and raised in St. Louis and is very timid when it comes to ethnic foods.  I always have a giggle when I introduce her to something new and watch her face as I present the food to her :D

I accompanied her for dinner at Chevy's where she was meeting a group of co-workers for some sort of celebration...My mom said this was the "type of Mexican she likes" I cant remember what the celebration was for, but I definitely remember the food being...get this...one of the worst meals I've EVER had in my life.

When I was in Mexico I ate food that was cooked on a tin trashcan that had been caved in as sort of a giant wok, (one of the best meals I've ever had) while living in Beijing I'm sure I ate rat on a stick more than once when I went to unfamiliar food stands serving chuanr that seemed too chewy and artificially colored...although I really have no standards for things that gross me out, the rat on a stick mystery meat chuanr was definitely better than my meal at Chevy's...
I am not exaggerating when I say it is the first meal I've ever ordered at a restaurant and didn't attempt to eat it due to the taste.
I've had Tex-Mex and phony Mexican countless times before and even enjoyed it, but Chevy's took the cake as most disappointing "Mexican" meal of my life.

My first time at Chevy's will definitely be my last time at Chevy's.  Don't eat here.

Chevy's is A-OK in my book.

The service? Great. The waitress was just attentive enough and so were the bussers. The location is HUGE and was remodeled pretty recently.

The chips are light and the salsa has a little kick just like I like it.

Whenever I come to Chevy's, instead of ordering something really heavy, I like to order the house salad. It has this corn salsa on it that is really yummy and the ranch is delicious too. It also has little tortilla strips, which add a nice crunch to it. And the tamalito. YUMMMMM. It's this kind of corn bread pudding tasting thing that I always order a side of. I could eat it all day long.

I enjoyed my meal. The next time someone suggests going there for lunch, I'll probably start thinking about that tamalito and jump on it!

It's a chain and I was aware of it. I didn't go there for food, but for cheap price and good time w/ my friends.

We were 3 gals and stayed there for 5 hours, ordered 1 Appetizer, 2 main dishes, and countless drinks, then total was $87. Wow, good job Chevys!! The food wasn't bad either. Of course it tased like Chain and I'd never go there for a date w/ my B.F, but they gave us a huge plate full of Mix grill and bunch of shrimp! We were chatting, drinking and munching. It was perfect for girls' night out!

You can also sit outside! Always nice to have outside seatings!!

I'm normally a fan of Chevy's but this location was pretty crappy.  The service was pretty non existent. I didn't even get any chips and salsa.  The food was not the quality I expect at Chevy's either.  I'll go to other locations but probably not this one again.

Here is a direct email I sent to Chevy's in regards to my last visit at this location.  I can't believe they would rather close early because it was a "slow" evening rather than seat my best friend and I.  This is a serious lack of customer service.

On a side note, I got a very speedy reply from the Director of Ops and was told someone that represented the franchise of this particular location would contact me.  A week later nothing.  This isn't much of a surprise to me because good customer service seems to be unobtainable for this location.
    -------
I just traveled by train from Chicago to St. Louis to spend time with my best friend. In college we both lived together in Champaign, IL and always visited the location there.  Upon arriving in St. Louis we were both excited about eating at Chevys again. We arrived at 8:15pm to be asked when we entered the building "Are you with the party?" after we said no the guy said they closed early because it was slow and he didn't know how we were able to open the door. This was nearly two full hours before the posted closing time and there were at least twenty other vehicles in the parking lot. This is very frustrating as we drove an extra twenty minutes to eat at that particular location. Please pass along my disappointment to the management team of that location.

Chevy's is a satisfying Tex-Mex style restaurant, with options for non-meat eaters. There's plenty of flavor, and the service is usually pretty good.  We tend to go in mid-afternoon, so it's not too busy. When we've dined at peak hours it can take a little time for the kitchen to get the orders out.

I LOVE the tilapia, which is served fajita style.  Be sure to ask for the mango salsa with it, it is delicious.  I've also had the grilled veggie fajitas, which are pretty yummy.

The tortilla soup is very satisfying, full of chicken, rich broth and cooked vegetables.

The chips and salsa are amazing, the salsa is more of a smoky chipotle flavor than the standard salsa you find in Mexican restaurants.  it's addicting, and I've bought extra to take home on more than one occasion.

The guacamole is outstanding, made fresh and full of avocado, no fillers.

I like Chevy's. I really do. I used to come here pretty frequently when I lived in the Creve Coeur area.

The chips and salsa are very good. VERY good. The fish tacos are a little bland, but I like them a lot.

The service has always been fast and efficient. I'd go back if I was in the area.

I really don't like this place.  Frozen food reheated is the best description I can think of.  If you want Mexican food, do yourself a favor and go to one of the many delicious and local options (one of which is just a few blocks west of Chevy's).  I have never had a good dining experience here, and they have NO idea how to deal with special orders so if you have special dietary needs look elsewhere.

I like Chevy's. I like the salsa - so fresh tasting you can hardly taste the salmonella in the tomato at all. I also like that they offer vegetarian black beans - something Casa Gallardo does not. There are several dishes I get but the one I get most is the tostado salad, minus meat with extra black beans. Its quite delicious. I think the service is generally quite good and the Chevy's on Olive is so large that I don't think we have ever had a wait. I would say the only complaint I really have is this: how is it that the food tastes so good but you always leave the restaurant smelling like B.O.? It permeates the clothes and the hair...is this really something I should be eating?

i used to really love chevys.

i still prefer their salsa over any other place, but gosh, over the past few years the quality of the rest of the food, the service, and general "good experience"-ness of this place has really gone down hill. sometimes you can get decent, friendly service and your food fast. most times though, you feel neglected and like you're inconveniencing the staff.

it keeps the 3 stars just for the salsa and the few times we're not neglected or ignored.

    Average Mexican chain restaurant.

Order the Fajita burrito for lunch.  It comes out on a sizzling hot-plate (which adds some excitement to a bland workday) and it's freaking huge.   Also good options are anything not traditional-Mexican, such as the quesadillas.

California Chevy's this is not. I agree that Chevy's is a chain and unoriginal but yummy, and it's size is definitely meant to be filled with patrons. However, I had hope that Chevy's would be the same from state to state and it's not. We ordered the nachos grande and instead of being made with the chips they serve as you wait for your meals, they were served with thicker chips, which was not a bad switch, but definitely more crunchy. Instead of being made with fresh cheese, melted by being baked in an oven, it was served with cheese sauce. Now, I don't know if they still use this ad that promises no cans or whatever and everything is fresh, but I fail to see how cheese sauce is "fresh."  The mesquite chicken salad was however delicious and had real cheese. In addition, our waiter was amazing, completely attentive and accommodating. We were splitting the nachos and salad and he put our salad into two bowls, brought out two things of salsa and two sides of tomalito and no extra charges despite only ordering one of each of the items. I will probably go back.

It's a chain.  It's the American version of Mexican.  There is nothing authentic about the atmosphere or cuisine.  The place is cavernous and noisy, and has an aura of mass production.

But it's yummy, so that's all okay.
