Like other reviewers said, Chevy's is a chain Tex-Mex restaurant, don't come here looking for authentic Mexican food. Â With that said, Chevy's has an awesome Happy Hour and is definitely the place to go for a drink and an app. Â The Happy Hour is in the Cantina, but is all night!
The service is always great and Juvenal (spelling may be off) is the best bartender! Â I always have a great time anytime I am at Chevy's!
I came for Happy Hour in the Cantina. Â They were located on San Ramon Valley Blvd/Bollinger Canyon Rd in San Ramon, CA.
I ordered the Cadillac Margarita which was on special for $6 for a limited time. Â It had 1800 Reposado Tequila, triple sec, sweet & sour, and a side shot of Grand Marnier. Â Yum!
The Fajita Steak Nachos were 12 individual tortilla chips topped with refried beans, steak and cheese. Â It came with a side of Pico de Gallo, Sour Cream, and Guacamole. Â They were just a little soggy.
I had a coupon for a free appetizer up to $10 for signing up for their email club, so I got the Fajita Steak Nachos for free and just paid $6 for my drink.
I'm disappointed that the San Leandro Chevy's was closed, which was closer for me.
This is a great spot for happy hour or having a few libations while catching a game. Service in the bar area is efficient and friendly.
If you are a fan of bland generic Tex Mex food then this is the place for you. Chips and salsa arrived quickly and sadly the salsa was Meh with little spice. Chicken Enchiladas entrée was served warm  almost room Temp. not hot. Again this dish was devoid of any spice just plain bland.
They do have a good selection of beer and tequila and the Margies seem to be a hit. I'm sure there are better Mexican food options in the area.
I've always dined here with co-workers and I never cared for it. However, I thought I'd give this a try by hitting happy hour. Surprisingly, it wasn't busy at all. I've always remembered Chevy's being packed. It's not a negative thing at all. I prefer a non chaotic environment while enjoying a few drinks.
As we were seated, chips and salsa immediately arrived. It's either beer or hards for me, but I thought of venturing out and try their margaritas. The Margaritas definitely gave me a buzz, but was on the sweet side which was expected. The guacamole we ordered was freshly prepared in front of us. Good stuff! Also, the wings and quesadilla were exceptionally good.
What really made the difference was the service. Our bar tender was cool as well as well as the servers. I never had to waive down any of them.
Meh, Overpriced. Food sucks, but Tex-Mex always sucked to me(Yes, TEX-MEX, NOT Mexican!). The best part are the chips and my cute bartender. :) But other than that. It sucks. You can go to Applebees and get the same drink order for about half the price. Met my boyfriend there... so that's also a plus.
Review Source:Got our order to go last night, so we can't speak on the service of the waiters or the strength of the drinks but the food was sooo good and the plate was huge. I had the combo plate with the chili reahno (no i couldn't spell that one) and a chicken inchilada, Matt ate the fajita burrito with chicken.
The hostess was very nice and gave us great information on the location and property. I like the outdoor seating arrangement with the fire place, it was very romantic.
Overall we were soo happy and full, we already love this place, while it may be a little pricy for some refried beans and tortillas it still hit the spot after a long day.
Ugggggh.
Not sure what's happened to this location, but they're terrible.
Why did Pleasant Hill have to clooooose?! :(
Anyway...
Came on a Sunday night and although the bar was busy, the dining side was not.
Here's the gist:
-Our server had zero personality.
-The food was bland.
-No one ever offered refills (but there were several people on the floor).
-I had to go ask for tortillas (which were undercooked and may have made me ill).
-It took for.ev.er to even find someone help us when we were finished (eventually I flagged down a manager).
The manager asked how everything was and I honestly told her everything I'm stating here...with the addition of "we won't be returning".
And I am -sadly- serious.
Though she was awesome for discounting our bill, it wasn't enough for the experience of such poor overall service/food/etc.
Oh, and my stomach wasn't stoked about it either.
(Odd, as I've never had a single problem before).
Sorry, Chevy's...
This edible love affair is over. :/
Chevy's--it is always consistent. It is neither great nor horrible. Food is usually a little salty but good and the margaritas are fantastic. Service is ok, food is ok, drinks are strong and good. I would go a million other places for mexican food. Or go with another cuisine if this is your only option.
Review Source:My wife and I visited this Chevys about two weeks ago and it was great. Food was good hot and still sizzling drinks tasted great chips were fresh and the staff was kind. The other day we came here and it had all changed. Staff was still kind and the chips were fresh but the food and drinks sucked.
Review Source:If you can see past the fact that it's Chevy's and the food isn't all that great, then you can thoroughly enjoy the kids' play area while you kick back and drink a margarita. Â Seriously, where else can you do that??? Â My kids played happily before and after our meal while I enjoyed an adult beverage. Â Pretty sure that deserves at least 3 stars by itself. Â An additional star for the server allowing me to order off the kids' menu since I didn't want to stuff myself. Â I'll be back.
Review Source:We just had the best time at Chevy's. Â
The food is pretty good. Â However, I just have to brag about our server. Â Her name was Krissi. Â She always smiled and got what we needed. Â She even anticipated what we were going to need and made sure we got it. Â Â
As long as we get her to wait on us again, we are going back.
I have eaten here several times and I feel like overall this place is going down hill and fast. Â If it wasn't for the Chicken Flautas and the jalepeno jelly that goes with it, I wouldn't even bother coming here. Â It's definitely not the best Mexican Food around, let alone service is always lacking, have to ask to get a refill, the manager was great, but was trying to catch up on everyone else lacking...
If you are in area and in the mood for Mexican, you can go here, just don't expect anything over the top.
The happy hour here is good stuff, it also runs all the way till 8pm.
I ordered the steak fajita meal and glass of the happy hour $3 wine. The wine tasted like grape juice, but for the price it is a pass. My favorite item tonight was the fresh tortillas! Tortillas and Steak Fajitas equals good stuff. Â Lots of steak, lots of onions, good portions of beans and rice. The food came out on a hot sizzling plate.
Also the entertainment book coupons make this place an even better deal too. I feel bad seeing all the bad reviews on here for this location but I guess we were some of the more lucky customers this time around.
Chevy's is Chevy's, it's a franchise. Each location can be defined by its service though.
Went there during happy hour. My friends had to go get the waitress to give us more chips and let us order drinks. Some of the people thought it took so long that they just went to get their drinks at the bar. They don't have heat lamps outside so you sit outside during HH because it's a beautiful day, but that doesn't mean we want to move the party when it gets cold.
The drinks were odd. I ordered a virgin daquiri and my friend orders a margarita, and hers was cheaper! They charge less if you choose the alcoholic drink during happy hour! The margarita wasn't strong through, so it almost tasted like my drink. I would come here again only because they have the space for a happy hour.
This past weekend I had a craving for fajitas. And for some reason, I recall Chevy's fajitas were really good. Well, I must be getting old because they were no where near as good as I remembered them.
I had the half chicken half steak order and it just wasn't that good. Maybe my memory had enhanced the flavor of the fajitas from years ago. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great either.
The service was quick but it was off on timing. The waiter asked us if we wanted something to drink at the same time he handed us the menus. I do read fast, but not that fast.
Overall, it will do in a pinch, but I'll gladly drive further for better food.
Will I be back? Maybe in another 10 years or so.
Avoid this Chevy's and go to the one in Pleasanton (quick hop onto the freeway and 2 exits down). Â We have had our last meal here. Â I wonder what kinda hygiene is practiced when there is a swarm of flies in the restroom. Â What do they eat??? There is no window in the restroom, so they fly thru the restaurant in search of the bathroom and all have a party? If they hatch there, then the larvae have enough time to develop to full fly.... YUCK.
Well, that aside, the food comes out within two minutes of ordering.... Wonder how that's done? Easy answer is this is NOT your "fresh mex" dining experience.  The rice, beans, and corn dessert all have a dried up crusted film covering.  They basically put the plates together sans the main entrée and slop that on to order. Appealing? Not to me.  Other than that, the chicken is overdone (probably because it's been sitting in a bin) and the salmon tasted days old. I've sent too many meals back at this location and will not return.
I've been here twice so far. The first time was on a Sunday night. We had a dud waiter, our food service was slow, and the food itself tasted mundane. It was decent enough, but I suppose even that is attributed to the fact that we were starving when they arrived.
The second time we came was Friday, October 30, 2009. Everyone was dressed up in Halloween costumes. As to WHY? I have no idea. Let's just suppose they are already "dress-up" crazy and were motivated to start the weekend celebrations early. There were busy, but they seated us fast and took our drink orders. We had our chips and salsa refilled three times. Sweet Mexican man who was cleaning off tables did it for us. (We gave him $2) for his dedication.
The bloody mary was awful here. No spice, watered down, NO KICK. Sad... Mojito was also mundane. Never coming here for drinks that have to be made. Such a waste of money.
Food was delicious though. Nothing wrong with it at all. Superb! Waiter service was on POINT that night.
Overall: Guessing this place is hit or miss. Try the shrimp and crab enchiladas though. mmmmmmmmmm so good. *drools*
This has to be the worst Mexican restaurant that I have ever gone to. Â Service was extremely slow despite the fact that the restaurant was not busy at all for dinner. Â It took multiple requests to get sugar for iced tea and our tableside guacamole orders. Â Food took forever to get delivered to the table and when it did arrived food hard hardened and dried onto the plate and the guac on one entree had browned, apparently from sitting forever. Â All food was extremely salty and at the same time rather flavorless. Â I can't blame our waitress for having to leave due to her son being in a car accident but the service issues started long before she even left.
Definitely avoid this place. Â I don't recall having this problem with another Chevy's that I visited quite some time ago.
I didn't know this Chevys every got busy until a couple weeks ago when it was slammed.
Chevys makes descent food. There really isn't anything over the top or so terrible i would never go.
My favs. Chicken or shrimp fajita salads its big its fresh and it taste awesome .
Grilled steak soft tacos.
Steak fajita burrito no sides just a big ass good burrito.
I don't even know how many times i have been to different Chevys but there all worth it. The emeryville Chevys has the best outdoor seating, its kind of a tucked aways location by all these office buildings however its right on the water and if you sit outside in the summer its the best with the ocean breeze and view of the bay.
I will say that seating outside at the San Ramon one sucks ass, service drops to zero and there are soo many flies and bees out there i feel like im at a ZOO in Africa. Im gonna guess its because they don't clean off tables promptly outside so bees n shit figured out a good place to feed, lazy fat bees.
It's typical of most Chevys restaurants.
They do have a Happy Hour from 3-7pm during the week with $3 drinks and appetizers. I got a margarita yesterday...there is a reason it's so cheap...barely a drop of alcohol. So don't be expecting superb food and drinks during Happy Hour.
Service is nice here though! Food is decent!
I use to be a big fan of Chevy's but over the past few years I've noticed a decline in portion and quality. Â Don't get Me wrong, the Chips and Salsa is still REALLY good but the food itself have gone down in my opinion. Â The only thing going for Chevy's now is their Happy Hour from 3 to 7pm where their appetizers are $3 and house margaritas are $3. Â
This particular Chevy's is old and needs to be updated. Â There are only 3 standard 19 inch TV's in the bar and are spread so far apart that you cant see the score on the screen. Â This certainly would not be my first choice to go watch the big game.
Chevy's food has never been great, it's always been merely reliable. Â I will admit, however, that I do dig their chips and salsa. Â This last time I went was awful!
My boyfriend ordered a beer, and was served a bottle with a chilled glass, with soap in the bottom. Â Needless to say the beer would've been nasty, had he actually poured his beer in there. Â YUCK!
We both ordered fajitas. Â What ever happened to sizzling fajitas? Â the plate were warm.. if that, and We each got tiny portions of EVERYTHING!
So, yeah, I've had better!
My friend and I always meet here to catch up.
I know, I know - - the food here is awful. Â So how could I, a self-declared foodie, go to Chevy's?
Well - Â have you tried their GUACAMOLE?
The first time I got dragged here by my friend, she couldn't stop raving about "the guacamole and pillows of heaven". Â It turns out the "pillows of heaven" are rather puffy, thick and quite delicious tortillas that they will serve upon request with the guacamole. Â The guacamole is 3 avocados that they bring to your table, mash on the spot with onions, tomatoes and whatever else you'd like put in, and served with tortilla chips. Â What I love is the freshness of it, and the fact that they bring out chopped jalapenos to add, if you wish. Â I always add a wee bit more salt, though... you know, for flavor!
My friend can't eat something that spicy, so I always just ask for the whole bowl of jalapenos (and request more, actually) for myself. Â I take a bit of guacamole, put it atop my piping hot "pillow of heaven" - pour on the jalapenos, and devour!
Wash it down with some beer - - and you're ready for a good, fattening time.
The food here is really quite awful, otherwise. Â I don't know who would eat here for dinner or lunch, or why. Â For the same cost, there has got to be other choices out there, but to each his/her own, I suppose.
Although I have never been to another Chevy's, I assume all of them offer the same, like most chain restaurants.
The guacamole - - while not exactly the BEST - - is worth a try.... and don't forget to ask for the "pillows of heaven". Â (You might want to refer to it as "warm tortillas", though!)
As a sidenote, they have shaded patio seating at this Chevy's.... rather cool.
HAVE YOU NOTICED THE PORTIONS THEY GIVE YOU NOW???
So my son likes to go to Chevy's but I hate it. Â I don't know if you have noticed how they have lowered the portions on the plates. Â It use to be when you received the plate, you couldn't see any white of the plate below. Â Last time I ordered Steak Fajitas and received like three pieces of meat and you could see more of the heated plate then there was food. Â I asked the waitress for some more meat that this was ridiculous for the cost.
So when my husband said our son wanted to go there I was like urghhhhhh because you don't get your moneys worth there. Â SO GET THIS, they delivered the chips in like the smallest basket ever. Â OMG, another low blow. Â This I thought was stupid because they are just going to make their staff work harder delivering more chips to the table. Â It was a joke. Â I HATE GOING THERE! Â I want to boycott it. Â Next time my son wants to go, I'm not going. Â He and his dad can go, but I refuse to pay any money for cheapness!
I was hoping this place would be a whole lot better than that awful Round Table! Well, it was better, just not a whole lot. I don't know what it is about Chervy's these past few years. I used to really enjoy eating at Chevy's and now, well, I don't know. I think they messed with the formula too much.
This Chevy's is not much different than any of the others. Our group was trying them out as a meeting place for the first time. They did give us a back room which was secluded we could use for our meeting. Our problem was is that it was freezing, and the employees kept using it as a pass-through to go outside and take their breaks.
Even though our secretary cleared things first with the manager when he made the reservation, our server was surprised and not thrilled about having to split all of the checks. Since that is one of the main criteria for our group; this was important. She did accommodate us (this time) but I have a feeling we won't be back.
Ok, so why is Chevy's not so good anymore? I'm not sure. I ordered the chicken fajitas. Fajitas used to be a Chevy's standby. They put them on such huge plates nowadays - I find that unnecessary. And they were just "ok." Between everyone in our group, all kinds of foods were ordered. Some took a long time to arrive at our table. Everyone seemed to have plenty to et, but no one seemed really excited about what they ate.
So, i have a feeling that because of this, their inability to split checks for our group, and the cold room we were given; we likely won't make this a regular stop. Oh, there was something funny about the floor too. It was very slippery! I had on new shoes, but I don't think that was why. So, my advice for going here - be careful and bring a jacket!
4 stars because I can come here with my 1 year old and tear the place up. Even better, we can tear this place up and I can order alcoholic drinks. Â Their chips are good, the food is what you expect from a chain in San Ramon. Â
This place is usually crawling with families. Â So be warned!
I met my best friend here for an early dinner and a margarita tonight. She lives in Dublin, I live in Danville, so San Ramon is perfect and Chevy's is a brainless, easy choice for us. We know the menu, basically know what to expect, and like my other Chevy's review (Emeryville), know when it is good and when it is bad.
This Chevy's is decent. Not great, not horrible. The service was fair (the waiter didn't like the fact we wanted to share a meal, nor did he understand what we ordered-even though it was right off the menu). I simply cannot understand why a restaurant has the desire to put aioli-(chipotle or otherwise) anywhere near a tortilla, taco, etc. It is just plain gross. I mean sour cream, salsa, guacamole, I can understand. MAYO WTF???and when I ordered the tacos w/ no aioli=mayo, the guy didn't know what I was talking about. I had to show him the menu and the description then he had to get the manager to help him type it in the order system(no big deal this one).
My friend and I were chatting up a storm. I had a soda, he only refilled in 1x, then must have figured I had enough, or it was his way of payback for the no mayo on the taco ordeal.
Chips and salsa as always are the winner here for sure. This is what keeps me coming back...Let us just hope I don't kill my daughter and man with the notorious Chevy burp backlash.
Considering there is no dedicated menu, the staff seemed very accommodating for my celiac issues. GF in SD maintains a list of Chevy's options here: <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kintera.org%2Fsite%2Fpp.aspx%3Fc%3DewK0LjP7E%26b%3D34768&s=f85ca30f5a1a114ddd622d917be3982097a2dfb5049f3dca49a79c5160b78e3a" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.kintera.org/s…</a>
Bonus points for our waitress checking on all the ingredients on my plate, even though I already had researched options.
I went for the chicken tamale which was quite spicy in a very good way, and a couple of tacos from the classics menu. Quite tasty all around.
Um. Chevys. Â Another reason why I hate chain restaurants. Â This one was particularly off in the middle of nowhere with a clientele of one type. Â Not a bad thing, but good lord the food was rediculously oily. Â
The carnitas was good but everything else was MEH. Â The only thing HUGE about this place was the portions. Â HOWEVER, they don't seem to be big on veggies...my plate had about this | | much veggies and this | Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â | much meat. Â Not that that's a bad thing because i AM a carnivore, but I tend to enjoy my fajitas a LOT more with lots of veggies, tomatoes and salsa....
too oily too oily too oily!
That and listening to whitebread old ladies complain about the fact they weren't getting their drink at happy hour price when happy hour ended at 7 and it was 730 was a bit annoying. Â That and if you live in San Ramon, you can afford the extra couple bucks for a drink...Jeez...give the waiter a break!!!
All in all, wouldn't come here again. Â After all, it IS chevys in the middle of nowhere....
I visited this Chevys soon after it opened, and I remember mounting a giant donkey pinata in the entry way. (Unfortunately there are pictures.)
The salsa was strangely different, but strangely different in a good way. It was also brown which is always a plus.
With regards to happy birthday enthusiasm and singing ability, the boyfriend described it as a "brigade of roboclappers," while a friend said it was "a conga line of 30 staffers who could not sing."
