Well if you want solid roasted chicken this is the place to go.  Little freaky seeing all the chickens in different states of cooking.  Always consistent and solid chicken.  Moist, flavorful, cooked just right.  I enjoy hitting this place for a quick bit to bring home.  Skip the corn on the cob it's steamed and mushy.  Chicken is great and the mashed do the trick.

Set your expectations, this is a take out place and you do not want to sit in there unless you are chowing down quick or you will smell like the place.  Cash only and reasonably priced.  Full chicken, mashed, pita to go will be about $14.

Chicken Hut does it right! You can place a delivery order in 50 seconds and the food arrives 5 minutes later. Their chicken is always piping hot, moist and flavorful. This is my go-to place when I want something fast and healthy for dinner.

My boyfriend and I always order a full chicken with 2 Pitas and Barbeque Sauce & Salsa. They also offer sides like mashed potatoes, corn, and rice, but they chicken is so good and filling, you don't really need it.

My family came to visit on a really cold day in December. We walked into Chicken Hut not knowing what it was, just trying to get out of the cold for a second and look up which bus would be best to get downtown for our dinner reservation. The smell was incredible. We turned around and saw an entire grill stacked with chicken. I came back a week later with my roommate and we both got the half a chicken plate. Loved the mashed potatoes, bbq sauce was good (although I think it might have just been Open Pit). The 36 bus stop is right across the street so you can sit at the window, enjoy a great meal and not worry about standing in the cold, just wait for the bus to come into view and head outside. Love this place.

    Chicken Hut, Chicken Hut!
Back when I thought East Lakeview was a food desert, this place saved my sanity. Juicy, fresh chicken, extremely clean, fast, and open whenever I craved roast chicken and didn't feel like cooking it or scenting my entire floor with the effort.
I'm sure these chickens were raised in tight cages and plumped with hormones...yes...it is sad, but...Chicken Hut!

If you've got a hankering for chicken, and nothing else, this place is for you. The menu is straight-forward and pretty cheap: it's all grilled chicken. You just have to decide how much of it you want. I shared a whole bird with a friend of mine and it filled us both up nicely. Perfect after a workout. My only problem with the place is that it was just... chicken. And nothing more.

Walked into Chicken Hut at 8:30pm. The sign says hey close at 10. With my mom o had been bringing me here since I was 5, and cousin, who was visiting for the first time.  8:50: We sat down to eat and half way through the bus boy comes up and snatches the salt/pepper shakers and napkin holders of the table right over my moms plate of food! (Horrified!)

We said nothing and continued to eat, so then picks up the chairs and put them on he table right next to us and before he sweeps starts to mop with this stenchy old bleached infused ancient mop! My mom can barely breathe and my cousin stops eating. We then move to the high chairs by the window and he follows w/ hhis broom and sweeps the sediment under our chairs and feet! (Pissed the f**k off) I wait until my mom is done eating, as she goes to explain to the cashier the situation he laughs! (Lost it!)

I cut him off and tell him this shit is not acceptable or funny and a customer who had broth so many, gone there since I was 5, and spent ONLY CASH w/ Thea no brain idiots I was more than perturbed by this unfortunate night. They have not lost a customer they lost a relationship! No stars for service!

I've always been a fan of chicken planet downtown.  I moved up to Lakeview and gave Chicken Hut a shot a few years ago and thought it was ok.  But now, they're really getting good.  The pita was a little overcooked before but is perfect now.  I make sure to stop in at least once a week for the classic half with mash.

Do you love chicken?  Then you will love Chicken Hut.  The food here is very good, fast, and yummy.  It's a little pricey, but hey, all food is pricey in Chicago right now.  Chicken Hut is a win.

There is no vegetarian option here.

You can get quarter chicken.  Chicken with side.  Whole chicken.  Chicken dark meat.  Chicken white meat.  Chicken with big side.  Whole chicken.  Quarter chicken.
    Whatever you want.

All the chicken is on the grill.  In neat rows lightly flavored with a few spices.  But mostly the grill does the work.  And there are many rows.  I would say at least 100  chickens on the grill at any one time.  All the dead chickens are the same size and turn out exactly the same.

You see they've been at this for a long time.  So they've worked out all the kinks in their system to where everything is neat and efficient and couldn't be more neat and efficient in any way even if they tried.  All the good ideas have already been thought up and applied.  You can't make the rows more straight or cook more chickens at at time or cook it in a better way.  It'd be like trying to make a wheel more round. Pointless to even try.

The sides on the other hand, are very pedestrian and could use some tlc.  I was in sf the other week at a fest where a huge line formed for rotisserie chicken.  rotisserie is like a buick to chicken huts Ferrari.  Come on.  But with a little feta and fancy stuff and in a bowl..Hello..its a hit.

Just an idea there.  Chipotle across the street is doing pretty good with their bowls and what not.  And your chicken blows doors on theirs. Maybe time to spruce things up a bit.

Anyway...Chicken hut = good chicken that is chickeny and grilled good.

Although I might have given them 3 stars for the chicken, I give them nothing for anything else. Why?

It's 2012 but this place is CASH ONLY! I thought we now lived in a "paperless society?" If the credit or debit transactions cost merchants more $, THEN CHARGE ME THAT AMOUNT AND I WILL GLADLY PAY IT!  But don't make me walk across the street to pay an ATM that is not in my banking system $3.00 to withdraw a 20 dollar bill!

I was desperate and hungry, and there was nothing as healthy near this place other than Sushi, and I didn't want that.

    #2

The manager/ cashier had a real crappy attitude and just about threw the change in my hand without even a 'Thank You' of course.

The chicken was not bad, but I've had much better.

Chances of me ever returning is slim to none... Any storefront business that's legit, other than a hot dog cart or a drug dealer, taking CASH ONLY in 2012 needs a surprise visit from the IRS!

I wonder if they would sayTHANK YOU to the auditor after he leaves?

    Amazing juicy chicken.

If it wasn't for the troublesome parking in the area, then I would probably be 15lbs lighter. I would come to Chicken Hut daily instead of going to places like Kuma. Grill chicken with rice/mash, pita, and delicious salsa sauce. After eating at Chicken Hut, I don't feel unhealthy and it actually boost my mood upward.

Since it's an open kitchen, you will walk out of there smelling like grilled chicken. For me, I don't' mind that smell at all.

    The staffs there are friendly.

Very affordable and simple meal that make me more happy and excited to eat than going to fancy restaurant.

I love simplicity, and nothing yells simplicity like having less than ten things on the menu that all involve the word "chicken". If you want grilled chicken, go in and pick up a half chicken combo with coleslaw and baked beans. The combo comes with a drink, some salsa, and a slice of pita for around $9. It's enough to curb any chicken craving and is great for a down home comfort food fix.

    Note: Cash Only

Okay, I'm just going to say it.  This place is MARVY!

I am clueless as to the complaints, because I don't have one.

Even though we're right on the very edge of their delivery boundaries (we're in Lincoln Park, they're in Boystown), they get that food here so fast that they seriously rival Jimmy Johns.  On a bike, nonetheless.  Even in SNOW.  And still, the food is always hot and delicious - and not once has our order been wrong.

They always answer the phone quickly when I call, and the prices are completely down to earth.  If the worst thing they do is call me 'Micky' instead of 'Missy,' I'll live.  What's more, I'll keep on ordering.

If you haven't yet, try them!  Then message me and tell me how delish your food was.  :)

DELICIOUS!!!!  I was blown away at how yummy this chicken is.  The cole slaw wasn't anything fabulous but the chicken...  I guess that's why they call this place The Chicken Hut and not The Cole Slaw Hut.  :-)

1/4 chicken w/side, plus pita and salsa was under $6!!  Side choices included mashed and potato salad.

This place must do a great carryout business.  While we were there, several people came for carryout incuding a guy picking up 6 entire chickens.  I wanted to chat him up and see if I could get invited to his party but my BF stopped me.  :-)

Not 4-stars as in "how the F did Michelin miss this place?" Rather, 4-stars as in, great grub on the run.

Fresh-off-the-fire grilled chicken and freshly-made dipping salsa are the stars of the show.  Sides are passable.

This is the best deal on a chicken meal in Lakeview in my opinion. You can get a half Chicken dinner with a side an a pita bread with a drink for 7 bucks? You cant go wrong. The chicken is freshly grilled an the dinner I got was fresh and the chicken hot and juicy. In fact it was so much chicken I just couldn't finish it.
The service was friendly and fast.

If you want a hot hearty meal that doesn't give you that bloat feeling then Chicken Hut is your place. Bonus points for showing soccer on their TV.

I love Chicken Hut! Half a chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy with pita on the side = yummy! The seasoning on the chicken is delicious and the pita goes well with the chicken!

I've been here a couple times and have always been satisfied, except yesterday, the chicken was a little dry, but I got over it. Unfortunately, it is cash only, so come prepared.

I tried this place for the first time today! I really like their mushed potato and chicken. I had it delivered and it took less than 20 minutes! Half a chicken which was enough for two of us for under 10 buck! Keep the good work!

Oh I almost forgot the pita went well with the salsa and chicken.

This is my favorite take out chicken in Chicago.  Super healthy and always delicious.

Make sure to get your chicken "extra cook".  This involves having it cut up and put back on the grill for a bit of crispyness.

    The mashed potatoes are fantastic.

I used to love this place. I used to love it so bad that I would go here a few times a week, bring a friend or two for quick bite, until I encountered this.

As I was enjoying my chicken with the extra gravy on the mashed potatoes a few very flamboyant gay men walked in and order food. When they left, the entire staff, I am saying it again: THE ENTIRE STAFF started making fun of them with the cashier making homophobic comments! Me no more! You need to move your Chicken place to freaking Nigeria.

    Never went back ever since.

Fast, friendly, and cheap for what you get. The chicken is good but not outstanding, meaning if I'm in the area and want chicken this will be the place to go.

It's true, the coleslaw does taste like KFC and I'm a fan of that, and the mashed potatoes are much better than KFC, the sides are what made this go from a three to four star review.

The other thing that's a nice touch is that their soda machine has club soda, after all that should be easy enough to do. But place don't, I like to mix 75% club soda with 25% fruit punch or lemonade, it's a nice diversion from syrupy soda.

If you drive there find a legal spot and give the city its cut, because the ticket Nazi's are out in full force

Solid place to eat.  We were hungry and we just happened into this place by chance.  We made a great decision.  Very simple menu, but great food.  I loved the pita/salsa combo with the mashed potatoes and chicken.  It was like the Midwest meets Mexico in my mouth...and I liked it.  This place is definitely worth the stop.

This place serves simple roast chicken- that's it- and that's what makes it so great.  They do one thing, and they do it well. The food is good, the prices are really cheap and if the atmosphere was nicer they'd get another star.

You have three options: whole, half or a quarter chicken and a few sides.  What you see is exactly what you get, a simple, no-frills place (it's much better to get take-out, since the atmosphere is quite lacking) with simple no-frills food.  The sides are not going to blow your socks off, so don't expect them to!  And the chicken will not taste like like it's been marinating for hours and then craftfully prepared by a nationally acclaimed chef and artfully presented on a plate- so don't expect it to!

The chicken is seasoned and cooked to perfection- it's juicy, it's tender BUT if you are craving anything other than chicken it will not hit the spot.

    ABSOLUTE BEST CHICKEN OF LIFE!!!

Fresh grilled chicken, pita, salsa, mashed potatos and a icy orange pop. I get the half and it always makes me full. It's always served hot.

The guys that work here are kinda here nor there, they're like "meh..." could care less if they come off happy you're there or not they're just busy watching sports. But it's so quick you don't have to spend any time with them.

    Favorite chicken anywhere!

Who doesn't love walking down Belmont and being drawn in by the intoxicating smells and sights of a grill full of chickens at the Chicken Hut? There have been many times where I had intended on going elsewhere but this place always manages to draw me in.

1/4, 1/2 or Whole? It can't get any easier than that. After you pay (cash only), go get your drink, and when you've filled it up your chicken deliciousness will be ready.

The sides are OK- stick with the rice or potato salad. Do yourself a favor and splurge for the extra pita. They warm them up on the chickens and they get some of the chicken flavor on them. Awesome.

The sight of 30 chickens on a grill can be a little off putting to some of your more squeamish friends- but make them go in there anyways. They'll thank you.

Super fast: In and out in literally 2 minutes.  I hadn't even finished putting my money back in my wallet and my food was sitting in front of me on the counter!
Chicken was decent--I'd like to try the dark meat and see if it's juicier, but this stuff is pick-at-the-bones good.  Love the salsa that comes with it--reminds me of my fave fast food chain, El Pollo Loco.  Wish they gave a bigger piece of pita, but this is prob better for my waistline.
The guy at the counter told me to get the mashed potatoes or rice when I couldn't decide on a side, and the mashed potatoes are the bomb.  Seriously, drool.  Sometimes after hitting the gym, I am tempted to pop in for just the mashed potatoes.  I mean, why go to the gym if you can't have mashed potatoes afterward?  Yeah, I thought so.

This is literally some of the best grilled or roasted chicken I've ever had. Accompanied by flavorful rice, grilled pita, and extremely fresh salsa, you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal in Lakeview, much less the rest of Chicago. The chicken is spiced perfectly, is served instantaneously, and you'll devour it within minutes.

Don't let the lack of decor bother you. That's not the point. Go here for the food, enjoy it, and head out to your next stop. This is the way fast food should be: fresh, healthy, and with unfailingly friendly service.

I'd give this place five stars except for the fact that, during off-hours, the white meat parts of their chicken halves tend to be somewhat dry. This is never the case during the prime lunch and dinner times, so just be forewarned. Nonetheless, at any time of day, you'll get an amazing bargain.

The smell of this place is irresistable. The taste of their food is even better. The price makes it an amazing value. Three people can eat very well - whole chicken, pita, couple of sides and two sauces - for about $14. The counter guys are cute and polite and your food is ready to go in about five seconds, tops.

The taste of the skin on this chicken. Mmmmmmm. . . . yummy savory, mouth watering.

This is fast food, but not unhealthy food. I love this place 'cos they do one thing, and they do it perfectly. Just great! The only drawback is the space itself can get warm on a warm summer day, but who cares . . . get take out, and go back home and pig out!

I'm now officially a Chicken Hut slut.

Chicken Hut's tasty legs, breast and thighs are very good enough, they are very inexpensive enough, and you can get in and out quickly.

And, the place is very close enough to me that it will give Jimmy John's a run for his money when I'm in the mood.

Sometimes I've overly suspicious of places I eat - I worry about the cleanliness, how fresh the food is, that one write-up they had according to the restaurant inspection listing (message me for the link...I have it bookmarked)...but this place is clean, clean clean. For real.

The chickens look simultaneously amazing and weird, all sitting on the grill like that, but there is so much turn-over that they don't sit for long. The meat is juicy, tender, well-seasoned. Great sides, too. Get the carry out and make everyone around you smell the delicious food and feel jealous.

    Stop. Staring.

Didn't anyone ever tell you that it's rude to stare?

Well if naked chickens on a grill could talk, that's what they'd be saying.

So yeah. After many months of rubbernecking these 'hot chicks' through the window at Broadway and Belmont, I stopped in. The digs? Not glamorous. And smell like a salty mix of raw and cooked chicken. But for about $7, I took home two large chicken breasts, a side of BBQ sauce and some grilled pita bread. More than plenty for lunch and dinner. The chicken tastes like backyard grillin', simply seasoned with salt and pepper and very juicy beneath the layer of crispy skin.

    Bring your dinero-- cash only.

    The Chicken Hut is almighty.

Cash only, but whatever.  From the chicken to the potatoes (I always go for the potato salad) to that fantastic pita bread and the even more fantastic price?

    Win.

Chicken Hut is so full of win it hurts.  Do not be deceived!  It's one rocking meal.

Seriously stop in.  This is another place I was all "Oh HELL no!" before I was dragged in with such judgement.  And now?  You practically have to drag me OUT of there.

    Mmm.  Chicken.

Nothing about the outside of this place really draws me in to want to try it. It's called Chicken Hut, pretty generic. When I used to live in Lakeview, a friend of mine introduced this to me by saying
"Have you been to that Cuban chicken place?" Cuban chicken???
me: Huh? I didn't know there was Cuban chicken by my place.
friend: Yeah, it's called Chicken Hut.
uhhh...... yeah, I just don't get Cuban chicken from that name. Anyways, the chicken is phenomenal. It's cheap, it's fast, and probably pretty healthy.

They got this great system of cooking the chicken on this huge grill. I have even gotten over the time I saw them hull out this huge black garbage bag full of marinated chicken to put on the grill. Yeah, chicken from a giant garbage bag really doesn't look appetizing, but I guess when you are standing in line starving and the delicious fumes have taken over your brain, chicken from a garbage bag isn't so bad.

If you like things that taste like chicken then this is the place for you. Its the only thing they have on the menu but they have mastered the art of fast food.  And as fast food places go it actually tastes pretty good and isn't too bad for you. You will never have to wait as they have about 30 birds on the grill at all times. Something must be said for positive thinking because they aren't afraid of throwing too many on the grill but the place always seems to be steadily busy.

The have a few different side dishes like rice, pita bread, cole slaw and potato salad. You can have your choice of bbq or hot sauce and the chicken I believe is Perdue and its always good quality. So if you are around Broadway and Belmont, hungry and don't want to break the bank stop at this hut for some finger lickin' goodness.

I love this place and order from it as often as possible, a major factor on my decision of where to move was based on staying within the Chicken Hut delivery area.  Hands down the best grilled chicken I've had, and their mashed potatoes aren't too shabby either.  The thing that earned it that solid 5th star from me though, was the pita bread that comes along for the ride; the perfect compliment to an already fantastic meal.

As has already be mentioned they are about as cheap of a meal as you can find in the city, and their delivery is amazingly quick.  I think the most I have waited was about 20 minutes, 20 freaking minutes!

I love this place, if you haven't eaten here already, please go do yourself a favor and do so tomorrow (or today depending on what time you are reading this)!

Put your pre-conceived notions about this place aside - sure it's just chicken over a grill and you can see raw chicken through the window ---none of that matters. The chicken is divine. Falls right off the bone, and is so flavorful. Their salsa is a great touch. Pile the 2 on the supplied pita and you're in heaven. The store is always clean, staff is friendly, food is good and cheap and service is quick. What else could you ask for?

I'd give it 5 stars, but I find their sides to be lacking in flavor and selection, I'm ok with that, as I'd rather them focus on that yummy, yummy chicken. However, my boyfriend loves the rice and potato salad.
