This is a pretty standard bar for the area - I would rate it 3.5 stars if given the choice. Â I went to Notre Dame which is generally the reason I end up here as they will have audio on for football and basketball games. Â Their beer selection is okay - they have some decent beers (a la Green Line, Magic Hat, Lagunitas) but not a great selection. Â Personally I do not like the food. Â I've had most things on the menu and the wings are the only thing I find passable.
I used to come here regularly on Thursday for the Ride the Rail deal (drink 50 pints and get free stuff - plus my name is on the wall woo woo!) but after I finished that I usually only come back for ND events. Â They are very often out of beers on the menu and the food is just not that great. Â Prices are average except on Thursday when they have really good deals on most pints (I forget the pricing). Â The service has always been attentive and friendly.
Overall, the service is solid, beer selection is average, food is poor, and the ND support is great! Â A better food menu would bump this up to 4 stars.
Seated right away on a Saturday night at about 7. Â The bouncer/doorman/greeter was really friendly and well-informed about the menu and made some recommendations. Â We were there for a quick bite, and service was fairly quick, until we got to dessert, for some reason that took forever. Â I ordered the burger with chorizo and it was heaven on a pretzel bun. Â The burger was juicy, the chorizo and salsa verde spicy, and overall every bite was a taste explosion. Â I'm salivating just remembering it. Â The menu is eclectic and (according to our doorman friend) changes with the season. Â In addition to the standard burgers and sandwiches, they have elk meatballs and frog legs, among other things.
We were intrigued by the dessert selection, in particular the deep fried Oreos, which I am happy to say I did NOT like. Â They tasted like they had been fried in the same oil as the fries, and on top of that they were mushy. Â Everyone knows Oreos should be crunchy, at least until you dunk them in your milk.
Weird dessert aside, the food was good and I would give it another try.
We used to go to Racine most Tuesday nights for their $0.25 wings, boneless and regular! I would pay a lot more than $0.25 for them, they are really, really good. And the rest of their food is equally tasty, I LOVE their burgers and their mac and cheese is perfect on a cold day.
As far as bar food goes, Racine is way better than most. And their set ups is really nice too, it's large without being overwhelming and the back room has some great wood details and a fireplace. We watched the Superbowl here a few years ago and it was perfect. I highly recommend giving it a try.
