This is a pretty standard bar for the area - I would rate it 3.5 stars if given the choice. Â I went to Notre Dame which is generally the reason I end up here as they will have audio on for football and basketball games. Â Their beer selection is okay - they have some decent beers (a la Green Line, Magic Hat, Lagunitas) but not a great selection. Â Personally I do not like the food. Â I've had most things on the menu and the wings are the only thing I find passable.
I used to come here regularly on Thursday for the Ride the Rail deal (drink 50 pints and get free stuff - plus my name is on the wall woo woo!) but after I finished that I usually only come back for ND events. Â They are very often out of beers on the menu and the food is just not that great. Â Prices are average except on Thursday when they have really good deals on most pints (I forget the pricing). Â The service has always been attentive and friendly.
Overall, the service is solid, beer selection is average, food is poor, and the ND support is great! Â A better food menu would bump this up to 4 stars.
Seated right away on a Saturday night at about 7. Â The bouncer/doorman/greeter was really friendly and well-informed about the menu and made some recommendations. Â We were there for a quick bite, and service was fairly quick, until we got to dessert, for some reason that took forever. Â I ordered the burger with chorizo and it was heaven on a pretzel bun. Â The burger was juicy, the chorizo and salsa verde spicy, and overall every bite was a taste explosion. Â I'm salivating just remembering it. Â The menu is eclectic and (according to our doorman friend) changes with the season. Â In addition to the standard burgers and sandwiches, they have elk meatballs and frog legs, among other things.
We were intrigued by the dessert selection, in particular the deep fried Oreos, which I am happy to say I did NOT like. Â They tasted like they had been fried in the same oil as the fries, and on top of that they were mushy. Â Everyone knows Oreos should be crunchy, at least until you dunk them in your milk.
Weird dessert aside, the food was good and I would give it another try.
We used to go to Racine most Tuesday nights for their $0.25 wings, boneless and regular! I would pay a lot more than $0.25 for them, they are really, really good. And the rest of their food is equally tasty, I LOVE their burgers and their mac and cheese is perfect on a cold day.
As far as bar food goes, Racine is way better than most. And their set ups is really nice too, it's large without being overwhelming and the back room has some great wood details and a fireplace. We watched the Superbowl here a few years ago and it was perfect. I highly recommend giving it a try.
Stopped in here before seeing a show at the Apollo theater. Just a block away and a great place in which to duck before or after the show. Nice place. Quiet on a Thursday night. Good happy hour deals and good wings. Great beer selection and friendly servers! Nice neighborhood place...I'd go back!
Review Source:We went last night for the GB/MIN playoff game and had a lot of fun. Â The crowd was all into the game and lots of folks were wearing the jerseys of their favorite teams.
We had the both the chorizo and pork belly tacos and they were very tasty. Â The bartender was great too. Â She made sure we always had a drink in front of us ;)
I'll go back again on gameday.
If you love sports, lots of flat screens and plenty of space, get yourself here!
If you love cheap drinks, Irish car bombs, and plastic indestructible pitchers, what are you waiting for?!
The bartenders and waitresses are friendly, fast and totally willing to join in on the fun. I can't think of any place more fitting for a good time.
We came here on a Saturday afternoon to have lunch and watch the SEC championship game. The bar was not too crowded, the place was clean and the service friendly. I ordered the all American burger and a side of waffle fries for 11 bucks. It's a burger with simple toppings of lettuce, onion, pickles and cheese on a pretzel roll. Â The burger was fresh and juicy (a little greasy) and had a good beef flavor. This was a definite top notch burger. The waffle fries were crispy and also very good. We got the nachos with the additional pork belly and it was very good. Â They have a smallish selection of beers and the prices seemed average for the area and quality of food. I have also had the wings in the past, they were good but not great. They also have daily food and drink specials. There were only 2 negatives. We ordered the mac and cheese, the noodles were overcooked and they melt the cheeses on top of the noodles, so it comes out with a bottom layer of plain noodles with a lump of melted cheese on top, it's not mixed together. Â I thought it was bad. Second issue was that the bartender kept switching the game audio back to music at every commercial, he was often too busy to put the sound back on in a timely fashion. Yes, this is a small complaint. Overall this was a great bar to get a burger and watch a game.
Review Source:This place get's 2 stars for a couple of reasons. Â We chose to come here on a Monday for their burger special. Â All the reviews were really good and claim the burgers are amazing. Â When we got there we saw the sign say "$4 all american burger and fries". Â So we asked the waitress and she said it was ONLY for the all american burger and no subsititions or additions could be made to the special. Â We all were pretty bummed and even thought about leaving but figured since we were there with beer in hand it might as well be worth it to stay.
Two people of the group decided to stick with the special - the all american burger. Â but the rest of us were really intrigued by the Cock Sauce Burger. Â It included Roasted red pepper, panko breaded fresh mozzarella, grilled pineapple & sriracha sauce. Â Sounds amazing. Â But it was also priced at a whopping $9 NOT included french fries. Â To me, a total rip off. Â But we all went for it anyways.... Â We ordered 2 sides of fries to split with the group. Â When the food was served the 2 guys who went with the plain burgers were very happy with their choice and as for the rest of us... not so much. Â I barely tasted the sriracha sauce, there was a small bit of pineapple and i dont remember any red pepper. Â The beef was very good and figured I should have just went with the darn special. Â Totally not worth all the extra money for the crummy toppings and fries we had to pay for.
My advice to Racine Plumbing Company is not to false advertise and if you are going to charge $9 for a burger it better be damn good and include a side. Â What do you think you are Mastro's Steakhouse or something? Â A la carte is so not for you!
Oh and we were charged for a side of ranch dressing... not home made ranch but more like a Aldi or Wal Mart brand of ranch dressing that well we didnt even eat.
I really had a craving for some wings one night and did some extensive research. My roommate and I were at a disagreement over what constituted a quality wing place. We both agreed it had to be cheap, but he said the wings had to be big. I said there had to be a large variety of flavors. We also didn't feel like straying to far from the apartment. Well luckily The Plumbing Bar has 25 cent wings on Tuesdays. They had a decent flavor list so we decided to go. The place was pretty quiet on a Tuesday but had a few people. There was bartender manning the small bar so it was probably better it was a bit slow. Even still, it's a small place in the front so I'm not sure how busy it could really be. The bartender was great and came over frequently to see what we needed. The wings were fine. Nothing mind blowing by my hankering was satisfied and it was cheap. The beer list isn't anything to write home about, but the bartender made some fun shots so that was great. There was also a pretty cool crowd and we go to chat with some nice people. I can certainly see myself going back here.
Review Source:A great, great place for NY and NJ transplants to watch Giants football and Yankees baseball, if you're into the Evil empire. (i'm not, I'm a Mets fan). Â Good food, solid service, and lots of really outgoing NY Metro area people to chat with. Â You need to get there early on Giants game day if you want a seat, because the place fills up very quickly to standing room only.
Review Source:If you're a NY giants fan then THIS IS THE PLACE for you. My bf is a fan and we've been coming here for the games. Â They have special every day which is great.
The food was good...some better than others.
Have had:
-Spicy wings....I've had better.
-I do love the Pork Belly Tacos which is unique but one or two is enough
-Fried oysters taco was okay
-Chorizo tacos are super salty.
-Turkey cock sauce burger was dry the time my bf tried it
-Turkey Chi Town burger was my fave - juicy turkey meat with roasted red peppers, giardiniera, caramelized onions & sharp cheddar with the usual burger toppings.
-Deep fried oreos was okay
-Cookie monster balls wasn't my fave
Overall - love the camaraderie amongst Giants fan. Great specials on drinks.
If you're a single gal, lots of cute men here (at least when I went - I'm sure my bf will disagree).
I have never understood why anyone would want to drink at a place where you have to literally shout just to converse. And when you're shouting over poorly mixed, DJ-spun, tinny, shitty music, well that just makes it even worse.
Racine Plumbing had a very modern look to it--concrete floor, walls of wood, green lights, flat screen TVs acting as art (because they turned them off for no reason at midnight); and a very douchey clientele. Maybe the food is good and/or the prices fair, maybe it is a pleasant place if you go earlier in the night, but if you're going after 11... just don't go.
I threw a birthday party here for my boyfriend. The space is big enough for a huge crowd but the back of the bar ( the main party space) looks like a dungeon. The decor just seems odd and boring. Aside from the space which isn't the biggest factor, Â Racine Plumbing serves one of the best cocktails in the city, I've tried them all:) Also, save a lot of room for their deep fried Oreos and Twinkies. They're so GOOD!
Review Source:I've been back, and trivia is still good even though we suffered a soul crushing defeat. Â This time I went with some of their typical bar food and I am happy to report the burger was really good, mine had salsa verde, chorizo, and egg. Â I really appreciate they care about serving good and interesting food. Â I look forward to many more trivia nights or just stopping in whenever.
Review Source:Folks, if you are a New York sports fan, Racine Plumbing is the #1 place for us transplants living in Chicago. It is the home for our Super Bowl Champion New York Giants! Also, they have been host to Yankees playoff games, along with the Rangers and the Knicks. The staff makes us feel welcome in addition to the great dining and specials. When the place is packed and you hear the accents, the atmosphere is just like we are back East. You can't beat it. It is a home away from home.
Review Source:They have to get five stars because of the awesome burger I had lastnight. Get the cock sauce burger!!! Cant say I remember what all was on there, besides fried mozzarella yumm but I do know it was one of the best burgers I've ever had.
They also have deep fried oreos..my favorite thing! The little nuggets of deliciousness came with icecream. Heaven. I'll be back for the fried twinkie and for that cock sauce :0
As many of you know, I bleed Boston Bruins, Black and Gold. So when I saw a New York Rangers flag flying outside the door, my first reaction was to turn around and go elsewhere or light a match and burn the place to the ground. I'm glad I decided to put aside my hatred for all things NYR and enter. Â
Our evening at Racine plumbing is everything a Friday night out should be. On Friday's nights I ignore my diet, Acid reflux condition and High Cholesterol and eat what ever the hell I want. My wife set the tone by taking on their Ghost pepper challenge and taking it down with ease. The owner, chef and bartenders were in awe of her ability to kick the Ghost peppers ass. She whipped it with ease.
As for me, I went with the Pipe cleaner burger. It was a delicious cut of meat that was covered with Jalapenos and jabenaro sauce. Hot, spicy and delicious. After watching my wife devour those plump, and tasty looking wings, I decided to get a small order of my own. The Wings were awesome. The sauce was yummy and the wings themselves were huge.
Here's the bottom line: If you looking for some good old fashioned, American bar Grub that won't put a dent in your wallet. Head on down and see the good people at Racine plumbing. The staff is wonderful, the food is delicious and the vibe is comfortable and fun. Warning: If the Rangers meet the Bruins in the playoffs this year I'm coming back to munch on Wings while wearing my Cam Neely jersey and Boston Bruins Zubaz. Be Warned!!!!
Racine plumbing is legit. Great burgers and atmosphere. Trivia on Wednesday nights is also awesome. My friends and I are also big fans of the hangover burger- pretzel bun, egg, and bacon! Also there tacos are good but pretty pricey. Maybe a half price taco night could be in the future!
I really dig the music selection. No bad pop music that makes you wanna bang your head against the wall. Probably, my favorite bar in Lincoln Park, you should probably go check it out.
I've come to this bar twice now - both after failed attempts to go to Barrelhouse Flat. Â I keep lucking out - Racine Plumbing is a gem. Â The walls are covered in wood planking and re-prints of old pictures. Â It makes a rustic theme, yet the bar feels homey.
They have a full bar and even have Malort - $3 Malort shots on Saturdays... who would've thunk? Â I enjoy the selection of $5 Martinis on Fridays. Â They range from the Dirty to the Dude (Mountain Dew vodka) to cake supreme (Pineapple Upside-down, Chocolate Cake, Chocolate Covered Pretzel)
We were lucky enough to grab the best table in the house - in the front half of the bar, but the furthest one back... tucked in the corner facing a BIG tv (perfect for watching the X-Games) and with room for extra chairs to be pulled up! Â It is out of the way, out of the cold wind but perfect for good service!
This is a review for the bar only...didn't order food.
If i lived in this neighborhood, I'd be here a lot... The decor was perfect, clean and simple yet not too college-bar-ish. Â Plus it was very clean. Â Major bonus points for the cleanliness! Â Beer was as expected, same with the prices. Â This was a great place to catch a game. Â And the bouncer was very friendly!
Came here on a Saturday afternoon to meet with my college girlfriends for some early dinner and cocktails. There was plenty of meter parking around but there some free parking but its rare to find.
My friends liked their beer selections but as for me I don't like beer so I got the Chocolate Martini and it was good yet strong for me because I'm not much of a drinker.
One of my friends had their mac and cheese and the other had their tacos and they both loved it. I had the sweet potato fries which was so good especially their with maple aioli sauce.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars because the music was kinda bleh and it played while good games were on so I would prefer to have the game sound on instead of the horrible music.
But I recommend this place and I would come back :)
The food is great, the beer selection is nice too, but their pay 5 dollars PER PERSON for terrible trivia is not.
First of all, really, pay for for Trivia? And if you're going to make me pay, at least make me answer real trivia questions, not :
- What does your bar tender do in her spare time?
- Please translate these five random animals from Italian into English (questions for half an entire round!) Â
- Please take 40 minutes to draw us a picture of a new logo for the bar. It must be funny, artistic, and obnoxious.
I will give them some credit that the movie quote section and photo trivia was really fun, but that was the only good part.
I will gladly come for beer specials and for a quite bite to eat or to cheer on the Irish if i can fit into the overcrowded bar on an away game night, but I will not be returning to Wednesday night Trivia here. There are plenty of other bars with real trivia for free. I say hit up one of those.
Racine Plumbing is a great bar with great food. Â Enough said about that. Â My major rant is their "Trivia" night.
I had this GREAT idea that my friends and I should fire up the old trivia engines and get back into it at Racine Plumbing. Â I had seen a little poster for it when I went there for afternoon drinks the previous Sunday, not like that matters. Â I was so excited to eat their food, try their half-priced whiskey drinks, and exercise my brain. Â Well the food was great, the drinks were completely watered down, as special drinks tend to be, and, well, I'll just list my issues with trivia below:
1. There's a $5 buy-in that was NOT advertised.
2. "What does the bartender do in her spare time?" is not a trivia question.
3. One who round was devoted to drawing a crude Racine Plumbing logo. Â Don't make us do your marketing work for you.
4. Half of an entire round required that you know Italian. Â Again, not necessarily trivia.
5. There were many questions where it was literally impossible to know the actual answer (How many Americans eat grilled cheese sandwiches in a year?).
6. It took 3 hours. Â 3 HOURS, PEOPLE. Â By the end, none of us even cared. Â We just wanted our checks.
I like the bar and the food is great, but I will not be doing trivia there again.
I've been to Racine about 3 times. Once at night for a drink, and twice for their .25 wing special on Tuesdays. Their bar is pretty nice, but in the back, you feel like you're in a dungeon. TVs and lights are the only thing that can guide you on your way out of the place.
Everyone on Yelp knows I love wings, so I find this review ONLY about their wings to be fair.
First, on Tuesdays, they sell boneless wings (10) and bone-in (8). You can mix them up however you like, but you must get them in these no. counts. Fair enough, not many complaints.
Overview of flavas
Their wings comes in several flavors which is a plus: Jerk, Blazin, Classic, BBQ, Spicy Garlic, and Teriyaki. They also have a GHOST PEPPER CHALLENGE- but I have not tried it...yet. Your dips are ranch and blue cheese per usual.
-Their classic is good, Blazin' is legit, but not too hot.
-Their garlic tastes identical to classic. There was almost no differentiation between the two, not even in color.
-The jerk chicken was way way too sweet and tasted almost like potpourri. I won't be ordering that one again!
Are you bonin?
-Their boneless wings are tiny, and sometimes come out cold. Their bone-in are pretty small, nothing compared to other establishments I've been to that have wing specials. Then again, they don't advertise them as 'Jumbo'
Case in point: I've had better, but it's hard to beat .25 wings on Tuesdays with the option of boneless and regular!
This place has a comfy atmosphere, and the area in the back is well-lit on a sunny day with natural light.
They have decent weekly specials, and I really like the tiny tacos that you can order individually. I had the cod and the chorizo, and both were enjoyable in their own way. The portions are a good size.
We came in a Friday night and we were seated immediately. The place was quiet with some people watching the games. We ordered
flank steak bruschetta - ok, the steak could be more tender
short rib hoagie - very good, loved the contrast between the meat and the bread.
chorizo burger - ok, slightly salty due to the chorizo
fried oreos - good, really interesting concept
The burgers/sandwiches were huge and yummy, and the appetizer and dessert good. I definitely recommend this place.
Went in for brunch. Â The food is very good--nothing like you'd expect from a bar. Â Tried the bloody mary and the mimosa; both were very good. Â Ordered the creme brule french toast, breakfast burrito and mac n' cheese to share around. Â French toast was rich and sweet but well balanced with fresh berries. Â The burrito was good but not outstanding. Â The mac n' cheese was really good (I think the caramelized onion adding some sweetness that really worked).
The bartender was great; very nice and helpful. Â A destination spot with a good neighborhood vibe.
My roommate's diets consist of chicken wings, potatoes and corns. So luckily Racine Plumbing has 25 cents chicken wings on Tuesday night to keep her alive - also hence why they're on my list of cheap eats.
But I must say Racine has more than just the cheap chicken wings - the inside is super cool. We often go on weeknights, so it's not too crowded. They have very friendly and helpful staffs. The bartenders at one point remembered my roommate. They have much more space than you'd think looking from the outside.
The owner, Chris (if that's actually him), was really nice as well. He put up with our drunk attempt to buy the posters on the wall, and e-mailed me the photos later and told me where to get them printed.
I've been here many times and I never had a bad experience. Weekend can be crowded. But I will always come back for the chicken wings, or just for a drink.
We had a Poggled deal for brews and appetizers so we stopped in to watch the Bulls game.
It is a classy place without being pretentious. The bartender was patient with us and let us just order our drinks and appetizers without feeling pressured to order something else. The people seemed really nice too. Food was great!
I say stop in, you won't be sorry!
I really liked this place. I think it would have been even better, had the place not been completely packed for the NCAA Championship game.
I like the look, I like the feel. It's waaay bigger than it look from the outside. It goes back forever. I always thought it was some place that actually had to do with plumbing or the sale of plumbing supplies. I think it actually was, back in 19 ought 6 (see, we had to say ought back then, cus the Krauts had stolen our word for 20).
I kinda wish this place was a little closer to where I live. I'll still be back... I didn't get a chance to try the deep fried Oreos, so that's something that will have to be rectified.
The standard-issue sportsbar decor is misleading. This is a great spot for brunch.
The bloody marys were spicy as hell (the way they should be), and the breakfast burrito was all eggs and chorizo...no beans and rice filler.
I wanted to try my wife's crab cake benedict, but she was cleaning the plate before I had a chance.
I don't know the pedigree of this place, but they're clearly shooting for something special. If only they'd turn a few of the TVs off...
As an adventurous eater, I would say that I have ordered some strange meals in the past. My dinner at Racine Plumbing ranks amongst one of the most bizarre. Since I had a burger the night before, I decided to go with a couple of their taco choices. The pork belly with remoulade and rare ahi with saracha cream were both absolutely delicious. Not strange so far but I was still hungry.
One menu item jumped out at me as extremely curious. The Grilled Charlie was created from an episode of Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Are you ready? Its grilled bread with, "peanut butter outside, chocolate inside, butter inside, cheese outside." There's not much more to say except sweet and salty deliciousness. At this point I am just trying to be different so I choose their baked mac n cheese with caramelized onions and bacon as my side dish. That was probably too much.
Ryan the bartender was really friendly and helpful with the menu. Overall, a great experience but next time, I'll try to walk away a little less ashamed of myself.
