Here is a perfect example of the kind of wierd shit that happens to me when I go out.

So, I came down with a bad cold last week that left me with a case of laryngitis.  On friday, at work, I couldn't even speak.  Friday evening my voice started coming back and, on Saturday, I could speak again but was still really hoarse.

So, Saturday I'm looking forward to a chill night and just resting my voice when I remember that my buddy's band was playing for the first time in two years.  Obviously I had to go to this,  I committed myself to it a while back and knew it meant a lot to him.

Hours later I'm at this place trying to be social without speaking a whole hell of a lot - not really the most comfortable position to be in - trust me.  Suddenly, one of my other friends motions me to come over and say hello to this fine lady friend that he was talking to.

Wouldn't you know it, this fine lady ALSO has laryngitis!!  WTF?  Who goes out with laryngitis?  Oh, wait, nevermind that.  What are the odds?

The night proceeded to go much better after that :).

Being close to where I'm staying for the month and having walked by it several times I was anxious to try this restaurant/martini bar out.  Last week a friend and I had dinner here and it was just ok.

We shared spinach and artichoke dip which I would highly recommend (unlike one of the yelpers here, we were given extra pita bread... just show a little leg).  Then for dinner we both had 2 dollar hamburgers.  Which reminded me of when I had cheap burgers at McDonalds in London 5 years ago only moments before realizing they were so damn cheap because they were probably infested with Mad Cow.  Stay tuned the next 25 years and I'll let you know how that one turns out.

I thought the burgers were good for 2 bucks but my friend had a couple bites then pounced on the spinach artichoke dip instead.

The wait staff was very friendly but we had to often shoo mosquitoes and the bus boy away from taking our food before we were done.

Overall I might go back but this time just to have martinis... I didn't have one while I was there

I went back for dinner and had a key lime martini and chicken sandwich thing...  neither were anything to write home about.  But with a roommate who makes a dynamite key lime martini, I guess that's to be expected.  I was informed there's a place down the street that has half price martinis on tuesdays and thursdays that would have probably been a better idea.  Oh well!  It's only what... 40 dollars after interest from those student loans???!?!

I like this place a lot.  If the food was a little better it might even be worth five stars.  The first time I went there it was a Friday night and I was pleasantly surprised to find $3 Sam and Sam Seasonals on tap, $5 fat tires and $4 Ketel One Lemonades (which are not great tasting, but are quite strong).

Ever since then it has become a relatively regular spot for me.  It is rarely all that crowded so you can always get a decent seat.  The food specials during the week are very good and they have several different choices of fries which make it fun.  I recommend the sweet potato fries, they are very different from anything else I have found in the city.

One extra suggestion, avoid this spot when they have entertainment performing.  I have been generally unimpressed with the "bands" that they get here.  Go here for a quieter place to watch a midweek Cubs game and get some decent food and reasonably priced drinks.
