The smell of disgusting will hit you far before any one actually even acknowledges your presence. And that was after we stood at the bar for several moments while the three "bartenders" were right in front of us. I mean, i bartended for 3 years so i have room to gripe. We had to ask two different people if they were even open. They're cleaning their floors on a holiday in the middle of the day and the staff were clearly about as unenthusiastic as I've ever seen. Clean the stupid floors BEFORE you open you cheap ass management.
Review Source:No refills on soda, you have to buy another soda in order to get a refill! I already paid a ridiculous $3.50 for my soda and then you expect me to buy another soda for the same price ??? And what happened to the free ice water? They use to bring pitchers of ice water to you, now you have to pay for a bottled water ? I understand it's a movie theater, however, you have basically a restaurant within and it's a complete rip off. The food is bland, nothing very good and the prices are outrageous. Their fries use to be the menus only saving grace, however, they have changed those as well... They now taste completely different as if they came right out of Sam's Club frozen value pack. The theater itself is not, but eat before you go. Quality of the food is maybe at most fair.
Review Source:Treated very poorly when the theater was experiencing technical difficulties. Went yo La Mis Christmas Night and the theater lost power briefly. The fluctuation in power caused the sound to drop. The theater took over 15 minutes to restore the sound. The portion of the movie without sound is probably the most critical. Following the movie we approached the general mgr on duty Gabriel to see what the theater would do for those in attendance. She was not willing to listen to our dissatisfaction and unaware of exactly what the group of twenty attendees were explaining to her. This is totally unacceptable customer management.
Review Source:I like Cinebarre and it is hard to beat on Tuesdays when they offer $5 movies. Â Cinebarre is unique in Charleston in that they serve food, drinks, and even alcohol to their patrons during the movie. Â It's a cool concept and is a fun way to see a movie. Â They have a huge bar in their lobby with cool furniture and even a few pool tables. Â The only negative that i have about Cinebarre is that because the servers are coming in and out, they have to keep the lights on a bit more than in regular theaters. Â I understand this and don't have a big problem with it, but I like to watch movies in the pitch-black. Â Overall, I really like Cinebarre and frequent it often.
Review Source:What's better than going to the movies? Â Getting served dinner while watching the movie. Â What's better than that? Â Getting served booze as well! Â Cinebarre is a great concept and one that is becoming more and more popular across the country. Â I have been coming here for years now since they opened. Â One thing that's great is they don't overcharge for the ticket because they serve food and drinks (many of these types of theaters do). Â You could come here with no plan to eat or drink and still get the same movie experience and not spend extra cash
Because they aren't your typical chain theater, Cinebarre does cool "out of the box" stuff like Game of Thrones or Walking Dead showings. Â Tuesday's are only $5 too but, it sells out quick. Â I have enjoyed the food every time and it's all reasonably priced. Â I wouldn't call it cheap but, when you consider what a normal theater charges for popcorn and candy, you can get a whole meal. Â My favorite it the Buffalo Blue burger with an appetizer of fried pickles. Â You used to get more food for your money but, not a huge difference. Â
Now for the negative... service has been dropping off lately. Â I have noticed a decline of the last few months. Â I went a couple days ago and there were only 8 people in the theater at most. Â We didn't see the waiter until after the movie started (the whole point is to arrive early to place your order). Â They we finally did order, and we didn't see anyone for quite a while. Â Our appetizer finally came out before we even had our drinks. Â I quietly mentioned this to the girl running the food. Â She said I would have to speak to my waiter about that. Â Hello! I'm telling you we have no drinks so YOU can go tell the waiter to bring out the drinks. Â Our drinks came out with our dinner shortly behind. Â After dinner was dropped, we didn't see the waiter until after we all finished our meals (and yes we had a white paper up for a drink request). Â I am guessing they were understaffed, but that's not an excuse. Â With only 8 people in our theater, what would they have done if more people showed up?
That wasn't the first time I've had shoddy service recently. Â It really seems to be slipping. Â Hopefully someone will make some changes because I otherwise truly do like Cinebarre. Â I would be happy to increase my rating when they increase the level of service. Â Consider it a challenge Cinebarre and rise to occasion please!
First off there should be more Cinnebarres because I LOVE this place!!!! The food and drinks are delicious especially the chocolat which is a brownie sundae(it has the best brownie ever). The food is a little bit more expensive but it is worth it. Most of the servers are really good! Awesome place especially on tuesdays when the movies are only $5!
Review Source:Awful, would never return. We arrived early and sat at the bar, hoping to order a snack before the movie. The bartender refused to serve us food (though she repeatedly pressed us to buy drinks) because she said she couldn't guarantee the food would be out before our movie, which was in 2 hours. The theatre itself was in need of updating the screen was flawed, there was a funky smell, and it could have been cleaner. The power went out part way through the movie. It took the staff several minutes to get the film started again, and at least 10 minutes once the film was rolling to get the sound working. Â However they never reset the film, so I have no idea what happened during a key part in the movie. I witnessed another patron having a dispute with a waiter over the bill. Apparently the waiter had added charges that belonged to another patron.
Review Source:We use to love this movie theatre, but this time were surprised how dirty the place was. Â Maybe we made the mistake of arriving early to insure a good seat during the busy holiday season. Â For 30 minutes before the movie started, we sat through amateur shorts with damaged sound and filming. Â Food was ok and service was good....so all was not lost.
Review Source:This was my first experience with this format in movie going - the idea is good, the execution was so-so. The theater (#4) had a weird smell, not quite rotten socks, but close. The food was OK, but I thought VERY expensive for what you received. The actual presentation of the movie was very good, picture was sharp and I did not hear sound from the other screens like you do in some theaters. I would probably give this company another shot to see the show, but I would eat before I arrived!!
Review Source:We had a really horrible movie experience at Cinebarre on Christmas. Â For some reason the building momentarily lost power and the sound went out. Â The sound returned a few minutes later but unfortunately it was for a different movie. Â This went on for about twenty minutes while the film continued to run. Â When we went out to the lobby we were told the movie could not be restarted at the point where the sound went out because it was "digital" (?), but if we saw the manager after the show we would receive a pass to see the film later. Â So we saw the manager after the show. She declared the power outage was not her fault so she would not give out any passes. Â I guess the wrong soundtrack playing in the theater for twenty minutes was not her fault either. Â So if you actually want to see (and hear) an entire movie I would go somewhere else
Review Source:Went to see the movie Lincoln while on vacation in Charleston. Went on a Tuesday when to my surprise all day every Tuesday they offer 5$ admission. Stop there though went to the bar and bought a iced tea for to my surprise again $5.50.....what?? hit me in the back of the head with the change! Well all make there own judgement but I will likely return but will not get a iced tea or any other food! Theatre No 4 did not smell the cleanest. To Piggyback on one of the newer reviews they really need to get rid of all the boxes sitting underneath the the theater screen.....
Review Source:Honestly, I was very disappointed with Cinebarre. The theater itself looked like a storage container with cardboard boxes stacked all around the screen. The food and drinks took FOREVER to come out and the food was quite literally cold. It was a huge letdown overall. I would not recommend this theater to anyone
Review Source:The ticket price was fair but i thought the theater looked and smelled disgusting. It had this smell to it almost like how an alley would smell. Then when we got to our seats they were gross(They need to be burned). We moved around a couple of times to find some seats that were not as disgusting. As for the food. Surprisingly the food was good. I had the wings and some chicken strips and the were delish. The guy that waited on us was great too. If the theater didn't smell like SKID ROW I would give this place a much higher higher review. To the management of Cinebarre. You guys need to renovate this place ASAP. Its substandard to other movie cafes I have been too around the country. You guys are behind the power curve!
Review Source:This is such a great concept for a business, however the execution is usually sub-par. Sometimes we arrive 15 minutes prior to movie start and can't get waited on until the movie starts, other times we come up 25 mins early and have to seek out a server ourselves (even though the on screen directions say to come 30-45 minutes before the show). It might be helpful if the ticket salesperson had a way to notify the servers that a new customer has shown up, or somehow have the ticket purchase trigger an alert to the servers. Also, you shouldn't expect any extra requests to be accommodated- forget getting mustard until after your sandwich is long gone.
Review Source:What's better than sitting at home eating hot slice & bake cookies watching a movie on your couch? Doing it at Cinebarre. I can't get enough of this place. $5 movies on Tuesdays. Beer, popcorn, potato skins and chocolate chip cookies. Comfy seats and fun movies. Black and gold 1980s plumbing fixtures in the bathrooms. Movie night doesn't get any better than this. Skip the metroplex and hit this badass retroplex. P.S. I'm pretty sure they'd be cool if you wear your pajamas for the flick.
Review Source:I really wanted to give these guys a great review - because we LOVE the comparable experience of the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin & San Antonio, Texas.
However, the reality is that the Cinebarre may be great for SC, but it has a lot of room to grow for those of us used to the Alamo Drafthouse.
Their menu was fun to read, but the food was bleh. With several people eating on two appetizers - neither appetizer was finished. Never a good sign...
We went in a good sized group (parents night out!) and ordered two pictures of alcoholic drinks. The margarita tasted like a too tart piece of key lime pie - and I never found the alcohol. The other pitcher got similiar feedback (I did not try the other one) from our friends. At $19+ a pitcher - you want to taste something good!
And, to be honest, for a theater (again, memories of the Alamo Drafthouse flashing in my mind) that states so emphatically that they will kick you out for talking and such - one small kid certainly had a field day the entire last 30 minutes of the film we watched! If you say you are going to be patroling  - then patrol!
All in all - I can't recommend.
My husband and I were so excited to go to a dinner theater and were quite disappointed in this place. They do have good deals (Tuesday is $5 movie day) and is a cool concept but this theater in particular was really run down and kinda yucky. The floors were really sticky and I didn't really even want to sit in the seats, much less eat there. Also, there was some sort of problem with our theater. We had to wait until the movie started to go in, and we saw several employees, two managers, and an official looking man dart in and out for over 30 minutes. They wouldn't tell us what the problem was when we asked and we were a little concerned to watch a movie in there. When we entered the theater, it smelled like vomit- think we figured it out... Watched the movie but my stomach was turned from the smell so we chose not to eat. My advice: eat at a restaurant and go to a regular theater to watch a movie. FYI: you have to be 18 or older to enter unless with an adult do probably not a family place.
Review Source:Great concept but just not on the execution.
Waitresses come by to pick up your order but when they are slammed they will block your view when they come by when the movie has already started. It's happened on
numerous occasions it just seems they are understaffed when they have a full house.
Order the drinks, I glance at other peoples food when it comes by but I rarely hear someone say that its delicious or any orgasmic grunts about the good food.
They play quirky trailers before each movie. It's been the same ones for a few months now, but they are entertaining to watch.
Pros: $5 Tuesdays (Shh...I think the secret's been let out), boozy drinks.
Cons: Food looks lackluster.
I will say its pretty clean every time I have been there and the bathrooms are spotless.
I love the concept of this place. Â I think it's pretty cool that you can get real food and, ahem, "grown up" drinks in a movie theater. Â I also love that anyone under the age of 18 has to have a parent or guardian accompanying them (regardless of the rating of the movie), so no big groups of annoying teenagers.
For food, we got the "Big Lebowskis" (fried pickles) as an appetizer, and then I ordered the "Braveheart" personal pizza, and my husband got the "Blue Velvet" burger. Â The pickles were tasty. Â My pizza was not good ... it was completely flavorless, and whatever topping on there that was supposed to be goat cheese tasted more like wet sponge. Â I don't know how a pizza that is supposed to have so many flavorful toppings (roasted garlic, goat cheese, sun dried tomatoes, etc.) could be so bland, but they somehow managed it. Â I tried a bite of my husband's burger, and it tasted pretty good though, so my recommendation is to just stay far, far away from the pizzas.
The food prices are pretty expensive for what you're getting (our bill for one soda--no refills--one beer, and the pickles, burger, and pizza ended up being $53 after tip). Â I suppose outrageously expensive concessions at movie theaters are pretty par for the course nowadays, but it just seems to sting a bit more when I'm getting about the same food as I would expect from an Applebee's at twice the price.
What a cool concept!!!
I'm sure we have one of these back in Atlanta, but I wouldn't know because I've been boycotting the movies since the prices reached  north of $12. However, this theater offers $5 Tuesday's, so we decided to pay them a visit.
Love the idea of waiter service right from your seats. I've never seen that before and thought it was a brilliant concept. Lots of families ordering lots of food, ant the prices were reasonable (unlike most theater food). I didn't know a movie theater could smell so good. The decor was more along the lines of $1 theaters with concrete floors, dark paint on the walls and old posters for art.
Out in the lobby is a bar that serves beer, wine and a few signature mixed drinks. The kids enjoyed a slice of apple pie and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
I don't go anywhere else for my movie theater. Â It is an all in one date with dinner, drinks and a movie!
They have excellent service with hot food, I can't believe they didn't have one in Marin where I am from. Â
My husband and I have been on many dates here. Â It is owned by a fabulous local who I am happy to support.
We went to the movies when it started to rain like hell and didn't want to go hang out at the hotel. This is the closest theatre to the historical district.
I've been to places where you can eat "real" food while you watch a movie, but this one is the best yet. They actually come to your seat to take your order rather than ordering it at a counter like other places. The service was good and non obtrusive during the movie.
The selection of beers was great, but I didn't get anything to eat or get an adult beverage (chocolate milkshake FTW!).
Overall: Pretty good concept, a movie theater is a movie theater...adding the drinks and food into it are pretty cool but the quality of the food and the service need improvement. If they can upgrade it a little I'd go 3 stars.
Food: Below average at best but your in a movie theater, eating in the dark so you get what you would expect. Also, be careful what you order if you drip some sauce in the dark...kinda hard to find!
Drinks: In my group people ordered the frozen margarita and something else. The drinks where not great tasted like the went a little heavy on the mix and low on the liquor.
Cost: Pretty manageable what you would expect.
The concept for this theater is great. The layout of the bar and lobby is interesting. There are many old movie posters scattered throughout the theater. Most importantly, I love the idea of being able to order food and drink from the comfort of my theater seat.
Unfortunately, the food is not amazing. It's pretty typical bar food such as fries, burgers, cheese sticks, etc. However, Cinebarre is great when you want to get to the theater early to grab primo seating. Instead of waiting in a theater just killing time, you can also snack on some cheese fries and enjoy a frosty beer.
As far as facilities, Cinebarre is great. Comfy seats, counters for your food, a well-decorated lobby with a bar. The crowd is usually pretty attractive and well-dressed- lots of 20 somethings milling around. They are an adults-only theater, meaning no one under 18 is allowed without a parent of guardian. SO, if you're sick of young hooligans kicking the back of your seat and talking at Town Center, go here instead.
They also offer $5 movie night, which is a great bargain. My only complaints are the service, and the prices. The food (which is Restaurant quality fare) is predictably expensive. The cheapest items (chips and salsa, popcorn, fries) are around $7. Drinks are expensive too- the smallest soda is about $2.50, and you do not get refills. I was also annoyed last time I ordered this, as the waitress kept the change from my five dollar bil as a tip without asking. Not ok!
I've been to Cinebarre quite a few times now. My husband and I have actually come to prefer this place to regular movie theaters. The theaters are smaller, the food is great, and they have a full bar to boot. Contrary to what a couple of others have said, the ticket prices are actually the same as other theaters. The food is reasonably priced--you'd pay just as much for a popcorn and soda as you would for a meal at Cinebarre.
However, the last few times I've been here, the service has left something to be desired. The first bad experience I had was about a month and a half ago. My husband, sister, and arrived at the theater about twenty minutes before the movie started. We were the first ones there, and we ordered pretty quickly. When our food came out, it was apparently given to the group a few seats down, who realized it wasn't theirs and sent it back. The movie was almost over by the time we finally got our food.
We went again last night, and again were one of the first groups to arrive. Our order was taken in a timely manner, but again the service after this basically sucked. My husband got his food first. Sister got hers about ten minutes later. My food did not come until about 45 minutes later. I wouldn't mention it were it not the first time something like this happened. But it's really annoying--especially when the rest of your party has finished their food before yours has even been brought out.
We'll definitely go to Cinebarre again for the smaller theaters/audiences and comfortable seating. But I sincerely hope their service improves soon.
Nice! Â Reasonably priced food + movies = an experience greater than the sum of its parts. Â I stopped by to watch Star Trek with two others. Â I was surprised to find the theater only half-full -- we showed up at 7pm on opening night!
The seating is comfortable, but the bar/shelf for the food is a little bit too high for most patrons comfort. Â I found myself eating hunched over with my butt all the way at the end of my seat. Â Thankfully, the food was solid (I was served a thick burger and a plate of fries about the size of my head). Â We also ordered popcorn, but only got a couple of handfuls before the main courses came. Â The tap and bottle selection is enough to cure mild-to-medium cases of beer snobbery.
Prices are reasonable, especially for movie theaters. Â Burgers were $9, beers about $5. Â Service was prompt and friendly.
Cinebarre is a great experience if you don't mind paying a little bit more to watch a movie without someone kicking the back of your seat. Â This restaurant/movie theater is converted from a normal movie theater with every other row taken out so you have a place to eat your meal and for servers to take your food/drink orders. Â If there is someone unruly in your theater, you simply write a note on the same paper used to write your meal order and the management takes care of the problem. Â It is especially good for matinees or early shows as the ticket price is discounted. Â
The food was on par or a little bit better than Chili's with about the same price as Chili's. Â It is located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. Â I would definitely go back to Cinebarre.
