This place is fantastic! Our server, Ali (I think that's how it's spelled) was awesome. She's the red head girl, so ask for her when you go. Our orders were all correct, the food was absolutely amazing, the atmosphere is pleasant and comfortable. They have a yelp check in special, so go there and check in! Yum, you won't be disappointed! The portions are massive and the prices are pretty decent. GO!
Review Source:I can't believe I never reviewed my favorite basic gourmet burger! Looking through my burger list today, I realized I totally and completely spaced on this, or was it subliminally intentional because I wanted to save all that burger love for me? I'll never tell.
So my husband is a musician. Some of you have met him, some of you have heard him play, and my favorite thing about him playing at City Park Grill once a month was the giant gourmet burger he'd bring home for me after the gig. I don't eat a ton of red meat, though I like it, and each month this was my treat...and what a royal treat it was.
Near the end of the night they'd pop that burger on the grill for me, add some bacon, cheddar cheese, send it home with fresh tomato green lettuce, and a side of their homemade chips and coleslaw. Even though it was 11pm before it got to me, I waited up for it. Note: I didn't wait up for my husband (though I love him) ...it was all about that burger.
In my opinion, one of the true tests of a great burger is when you can take it to go, open it up at home, dive in and it's not disgusting. Here's my burger overview: Great gourmet quality beef, juicy and nicely portioned, bigger than most, cooked with just a tad of pink the way I like it, fresh grilled flavor, fresh cooked bacon, and hearty.
Thrilled to see they are featuring a burger special during the upcoming Highland Park Restaurant Week, you know where I'll be.
I love everything about Highland Park, so I was super excited when I found a Groupon for City Park Grill. Â I used to work nearby and I had never tried it out! Â It was so small that we nearly drove past it.
City Park Grill is a trendy little restaurant that I would define as very "Highland Park". Â What do I mean by that? Â It is small and quaint. Â Everyone is super friendly and seems to know one another. Â It is a very homey environment. Â Our waitress was super friendly and made us feel very welcome.
For an appetizer, we had the crispy green beans which I highly recommend.  For my dish, I had the fish special  with garlic mashed potatoes and a Caesar salad.  I wish I remembered the name because it was so good!  I did take a picture though, if that counts for anything!
Even though we had a Groupon, they allowed us to use the Yelp Check-in offer for a free celebration dessert, a warm brownie with vanilla ice cream... yum!
I was really pleased when we were in. The place has gotten a lot smaller and it's a lot less private-you feel like the other guests are sitting on top of you and it's mostly a much much older crowd. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, but the people are wonderful, the food is well priced, and delicious.
Review Source:I'm usually a hard sell, but I fell in love with this place on our first visit. Â Good food, good service, good value, especially with the Groupon. Â Yes, you probably need a reservation, and there's plenty of free parking in the garage across the street. Â No, it's not airport runway loud or freezing cold inside. Â We loved the mango salsa tilapia and sesame chicken with peanut sauce, both from the specials menu, the garlic green beans, and the apple crisp desert (half of which we took home). Â Hats off to Mathew who doubles as both bartender and server at the hightop. Â Can't wait to go back.
Review Source:I will wait to write another review when I have more information. For my first visit, which was over the summer, I thought it was just fine. I heard great things about this place, but we only had burgers and it looks like their other options are much more impressive. They were so busy on the evening we came at approximately 5 pm that we had to sit outside on a  not-so-temperate day. That was fine with us. We didn't like that we were kind of forgotten about though. Our food was delivered, but no one returned to give us napkins, water or silverware. We sat and sat, parched, with our hands dripping with grease, lol. Finally, I went to get assistance.
It's okay. I understand on busy nights, things get away from you a bit. We were one of only two tables sitting outside. I'll try again sometime. It might not sound like it, but I do recommend a visit to City Park Grill. It looks really cozy and comfy inside; the servers are sweet, the food is good, so why not?
There is a nice variety to their menu (agreeing with the review before me). I ordered the chicken pesto panini. It didn't disappoint. I had such a hard time deciding between the panini and crab cakes. If I come back, I'm getting crab cakes. Â The challah french toast also intrigued me since I've never had it before. I might bring my dad back to try that since he loves french toast. Â When we went, the host was the most adorable old man ever lol. I really liked this place and will come back if I'm in the area.
Review Source:Nice variety to their menu; favorite is the horseradish crusted salmon with string beans. Â Start with a comforting bowl of French onion soup and try not to fill up from the warm bread with whipped cinnamon butter. Â
But what makes this place spectacular is the service. Â The waiters are prompt, efficient and courteous- and believe me, this is a rare occurrence around the North Shore! Â While some places may claim thy they are kid- friendly, this place truly means it without turning the place into an Applebees. Â Kudos to the staff for winning the place a return visit! Thank you!!!
I really enjoyed my meal at City Park Grill. I had heard the meatloaf was good, and was craving comfort food, so that's what I had. It was excellent. It usually comes with garlic mashed potatoes, but I got garlic green beans instead. Everything was delicious. Our server was friendly and attentive, and the other members of my party also enjoyed their meals. With check-in on Yelp, you get a free fudge brownie ice cream sundae for dessert. It was supposedly a half serving, but it was enormous. We all shared it and it was delicious. I would definitely go back to this place next time I'm in Highland Park.
Review Source:Fabulous find! Â My husband, in-laws and I stumbled across City Park Grill last week while looking for a place that would appeal to our various tastes, and this place fit the bill. Â I had a blackened Tilapia on black bread sandwich that was divine, and everyone else raved about their food, too. Â Portions were great, service was fantastic, prices are fair. Â We'll go back.
Review Source:Found out about this place while talking to someone at Claim Company - one of my favorite places for a great burger. He told me I chould check this place out and gave me a $10 off incentive to try it - so off I went earlier this week.
Gotta say, it was pretty good. Had the burger and it was much like those at Claim Company - very satisfying as were the homemade chips that accompanied it. Also had a bowl of cream of tomato soup too - saw it as I walked in and that was quite good too. Service was attentive as well, I was there during off hours when service can be a real hit or miss - it was right on.
This place isn't exactly in my well traveled areas, but I do plan to make a point of coming here again. Looked like some other great items were on the menu that I'll be eager to try. Could be a fifth star forthcoming!
Highland Park is not on my well beaten path, as usually, the only time I get up this way is if I am heading to Ravinia as there is a great lot here to park my car and take the bus into the park.
So this Sunday night was no different except we decided to grab a bite to eat before the concert. A friend suggested City Park Grill given it is right across the street from the parking garage and the bus stop so we made a reservation for before the show.
We walked in to what looks like a neighborhood bar/restaurant. Very comfortable and cozy- this place is not putting on any airs of formality. We took a seat at the bar and were greeted by two very young, but very personable bartenders who were quick to tell us about their specials and their martini making prowess!
Well they can boast all they want as these martinis were good! So good that I think my friend had three of them! Time to get some food into us- that's for sure!
I ordered the ribs, and my friends had the brisket and the pulled pork sandwich. All of the entrees came with a salad and a side. The food was good, the prices were very reasonable and the food came up quickly.
Couple this with free parking for the concert (or anytime), and those fun bartenders and this place is a winner in my book! You can bet we'll be back the next time we have Ravinia tickets in hand!
Had the NY strip here. I've had it before and it was quite delicious, but slightly fatty. The cinnamon butter with the bread plate is a favorite of mine. It was a great meal, plentiful portions, very reasonable. I've been there 3 times now and it has been great every time. Service was very good and friendly.
Review Source:For old-time Highland Parkers it is gratifying to see a viable restaurant occupy this St. John Avenue address.
If you're looking for an upscale comfort-food menu then you've come to the right place when you arrive at City Park Grill. If you are old enough to remember the "Chicago Claim Company," the well-regarded burger and chophouse from the late 70's, then you'll remember why you miss that place so much. No surprises here, just good food (sandwiches, salads, steaks, fish, etc.) at reasonable prices. The ambiance neither offends, nor impresses. It's perfectly fine. Â
One note of caution: the management does not take kindly to suggestions (no matter how benign). Let me share you my tale.
During a recent meal, our waitress approached (I was dining with my parents) our table with the hot tea we ordered. As she leaned over the table, she precariously balanced a carafe of VERY hot water with one hand while offering a selection of teas with the other. Â The trouble is that she was leaning over my eighty year-old father while doing it. You get the picture. Not too safe. Right?
Well, when I mentioned the incident to the manager/owner at meal's end, he replied, "Did anyone get hurt? No? Well then. Doesn't seem like there is much of a problem does it? Â That's the way waitresses do that sort of thing."
Enough said.
I really like this place.  I have been there many times, always with my kids and in a large group.  Ribs, fish, Hamburgers and kids meals are the usual fare.  I have  always been very pleased with the service and the meal.  Finish with the home made brownie sundae and everyone is assured to leave with a smile.
They have a great bar but I have never been able to enjoy it.
I can say the Fat Tire Ale is a treat
City Park Grill was the perfect place for dinner on a snowy night. The restaurant is much bigger than I thought it would be, but still cozy, warm, and inviting. On one wall they have pictures of Highland Park landmarks such as Ravinia, very cute. Â Our waitress was nice, a little scatter brained, but got the job done. I ordered french onion soup and a chicken pesto panini. The french onion soup is perfect and comes with two large pieces of garlic bread. This seriously would be enough for dinner or lunch on its own. The chicken pesto panini was really good too, but did not top the soup. The chips they give you with the sandwich, were just eh. Not my favorite. My friend had the chicken pesto panini as well along with the house salad. They have drink specials throughout the week...I believe Wednesdays are $5 martinis and Thursdays are $3 glasses of wine (those would be the specials I'd remember). Anyway, they also have winter cocktails that sound AMAZING! I was really impressed and can't wait to go back.
Review Source:City Park Grill was originally 41 North. However, the City Park Grill Space was originally Metropolitan Cafe. Regardless, I think that City Park Grill is a fabulous little establishment.
The food is delicious. My favorite is the pretzel bread pulled BBQ chicken sandwich with fried onions. I have been eating this for years! I have been to a wedding shower here as well. They have a great private room with really nice decor. The service has always been great, and the owners are really friendly and aim to please.
The interior is very cosy and comfortable. It made us sort of ease into the meal. The wine list had good options and was really reasonable. I liked the variety on the menu...lots of good salad options, entrees, and sandwiches. We didn't order dessert, but the menu was tempting.
This place only gets 4 stars because the service was sort of MIA and they forgot to bring the "lemons on the side" for my salad. When we asked the server about it when he checked in with us, it didn't even register with him that he'd forgotten. Sigh.
I nearly cried when I drove down Skokie Blvd and saw an empty lot where Forty-One North used to be.
No, I know I haven't reviewed this particular place but I'm positive it'll be as good as Forty-One North-same owners, same staff, and a lot of favorites from the old menu! Â I can't wait to go! I want my Bourbon Pecan Chicken!!!
This restaurant opened up on 11/7 and it is fabulous! Â It's from the owners of 41 North with a slightly different menu. Â I heard that Friday and Saturday were very busy, so I would get a reservation.
I went on Sunday night and the place was still busy, but we had the best waiter. Â He was kind and courteous and offered great recommendations. Â Â Â I had a great steak and it was perfect.
Their desserts are mostly from the old place and FABULOUS - if you're not sure what to choose, definitely go with the sampler platter - 4 small-sized great desserts to share.
I'll definitely be going back!
