Clark's Hyde Park

I had a burger, fries and vanilla shake here. I cost $16 bucks. I ordered it to go. My bank statement said I spent $19 bucks. I'm guessing the girl added gratuity without telling me. I ain't trippin though.

The food was extremely mediocre though. Burger had little taste, barely tasted the bacon. I had to add 2 packets of mayo to get flavor. Steak fries were bland, I had to add season salt to them.

When they actually add nightlife to 53rd, I might hit this place up late night, but there are better options down the block for sober food.
Meh.

The food is okay for a diner and considering that it is the only 24 hour diner in the neighborhood, it is guaranteed business from UChicago students no matter their service, quality, or price. It should be noted that they are somewhat overpriced.
Their service is absolutely horrible. No restaurant in a major city center - like in the Loop - could survive with service like this.
As a part of a party of 5 I ordered a Caesar Salad as an app. 45 minutes later, after hunting down the waitress to ask where our food was, I got it. 1 hour and 10 minutes after we ordered, I received the chicken tenders I ordered. In most restaurants, they would comp you an appetizer or take 10% off. Instead we were assured that the service would be better next time and that the kitchen had just gotten backed up. As we were one of about 4 tables waiting for food, this seemed a little silly.
One thing which might be a plus for some is that they have about 8 TVs and always have a sports game on. It is a pretty good place to bring kids, as long as they aren't too impatient to get their food, because their menu is kid-friendly.
As for what to order:
Stick to the basics. It is a diner. They have good burgers and sandwiches. Their Caesar salad is actually pretty good. Their chicken tenders can actually make a filling meal. Don't bother with the mozzarella sticks - you get 5 slapped on a plate for $7.
While their food can be a refreshing change from going to the Med every night, be prepared for unapologetically lazy service.
