It's Friday night. We ordered drinks. My husband spied the "fisherman's platter." It was around $18. Shrimp, cod, some other 'fish.' We both asked the waitress, Angelina, is this a big portion? He's starving. Is it a good amount of food? She lied. Flat out lied: "oh yes, it's large. And it comes with a a large bowl of cole slaw." No soup or salad? "No--but it's big."
It was about as big as an appetizer plate. Full of over-fried, leathery fish with miniature gumball sized pieces of shrimp that we about as chewy as rawhide. No cole slaw. "Oh yeah, let me get it." The 'bowl' of coleslaw was a sloppy mess my dog wouldn't eat. And it was no bigger than a large spoon full.
We asked Angelina, is this the seafood platter? It's so small. We asked if it was a good size. What is this?
You never asked if it was big. I never said you'd get a bowl of coleslaw. You can get another if you want but that's the platter.
Angelina disappeared after that. No other communication other than the check. What a terrible, terrible response to a paying customer. Rude treatment, disappointing food and we will NEVER be back. Save your money: go to Gale Street Inn, Graziano's or Suparosa. All nearby and much BETTER food, service and you won't be lied to or made to feel like it's your fault the dinner experience stunk.
I've attached photos too, in case you were wondering.
I just went to Coletti's for dinner, for the first time in about 10 years. We were seated in the bar area, which didn't exactly have the decor to match the menu prices, but eh, ambiance isn't everything I guess.
The bread was fantastic and our waitress was very friendly. The salads and soups we had were delicious and fresh tasting but I found my egg plant parm to be pretty bland. The noodles served on the side had almost no flavor, so I wouldn't get that dish again. Everything else looked good and the other 4 people in my party enjoyed their dinners. I guess egg plant parm just isn't their thing.
I'd definitely go back to try a different dish, but I'm in no hurry.
I have ordered for delivery and always been satisfied with the food. Â I especially love the chopped salad, Â But had a very bad experience recently when I dined in with my husband. I ordered something on the special menu, it was a while ago, so I don't quite remember what they called it, but it was beef served with mushrooms and a type of gravy, served with a veggie (cold and soggy by the way) l asked for my meat to be done MR it came sooooooooooo well done---which I can deal with, and l was hungry, so I ate it, and never complained! Â But the worse thing was----was that it was tough as shoe leather! Â After the fact---I wished I would've complained because it was a really bad meal-------not to mention the veggies served were cold and soggy! Â Whoops! Did I say that already???
Review Source:We went with Colletti's pizza for dinner. I have to say this was the best I have ever had from there this time around.
The pizza was perfect. The crust was crispy and just the right thickness. It had that perfect bread flavor. There was just the right amount of flavorful sauce. The spices were just right and the tomatoes were fresh. The sausage was also great. It had a great blend of spices.
There were only a couple of issues with the carry-out experience:
First, why are the delivery drivers parking in the "Carry-out ONLY" spaces?
Second, why does the sticker on the box call it a "Pie" in Chicago. No native Chicagoan calls a pizza a "Pie". Â It looks like some promotional material from Grande cheese company. Please localize the experience.
Aside from the carry-out issues, I will try them again. If they keep up the experience I had yesterday, they will move up on my list of thin-crust pizza.
Colletti's, Whoever you had making the pizza on 3/1/2012 evening, keep them. That was the best pizza I've had in a long time!
I've only ordered their thin crust pizzas, which were simply amazingly delicious! Delivery time was much faster than expected, with the delivery person being very polite/friendly. My only 2 cons are: 1. They could add more toppings on the pizza, kind of skim; 2. Despite the skim toppings, I find their pizza a few bucks expensive. Either way, I will still order again, and again, and again. :)
Review Source:After seeing the parking lot packed night-after-night, I decided to give this neighborhood "hot-spot" a try. Â Unfortunately, this turned out to be one of the worst service, food, and overall dining experience I've had. Â
Hearing so much about their "award-winning ribs", I just had to try. Â I will admit, I've been spoiled being in such close proximity to Gale St., but hey, awards don't lie right? My date had the lobster tail. Â Both were so overcooked they were barely edible. Â When I voiced my displeasure to our waitress she ran and brought over the owner and general mgr. Â I advised that our meals were unsatisfactory and for the price points I'd like it cooked properly. Â
Apparently I must have offended the owner because nothing over/under cooked could come out of his kitchen. Â I really didn't think our request was such a big deal, but he reached down to his inner tough guy and went on this rant about how his ribs were "award winning" and that Gale St. couldn't hold a candle to them - ridiculous. Â Now this is an assumption, but our waitress did pull the owner who was sitting and having a drink (I don't know what was in it), but I can't help but to dismiss his behavior with the possibility that he was intoxicated.
We laugh about the incident now, most notably how we were so speechless to even respond to this guy, but it's actually quite scary ugly he got.
Colletti's = 0 stars if it were an option.
I've been to Colletti's numerous times over the years. Â While writing this, I am really not sure what keeps bringing me back there. Â :)
The place is nice...the feel of the restaurant far outweights the quality of the food. Â I dont think I have ever left there after eating a GOOD meal, but then again, it has never been BAD. Â Just your average meals for average prices. Â
So yeah...nothing really stands out at all. Â the place looks nice and feels like it is going to be a better experience than it actually is. Â For that is is OK...and i got a feeling I will probably be back there again...sometime...just not sure why?!?
I have gone to Colleti's many times over the years, but it had been a while since our last visit, so we decided to stop for lunch while out Christmas shopping.
It was very pretty inside with the holiday decorations, but I have to say the quality of the food has gone downhill. It wasn't bad, but it sure wasn't good. I had the fried chicken which is their Thursday special. It was uninspired at best and might as well have been "shake n' bake". The French Onion Soup was nothing to write home about. Christoper had Angel - Hair pasta Florentine with chicken. It was seriously bland. I watched him dumping more and more Parmesan cheese on top to make it tastier. He did the same with the potato soup.
The service was ok, but the bill (with tip) came to over $40.00. It was so not worth it for the lunch we had. I doubt we will make another visit anytime soon.
Service with a bad attitude:
Been going here for years and also order for delivery but won't any more.
Place my usual order and the girl told me I could had soup or a side, not both.... wrong. It's soup or salad - plus potatoes or pasta. Â Argued about that before she put me on hold to ask someone. Â Ok, placed the order, then it took twice as long as they said to deliver it. Had to call them twice. First time the same girl said the delivery guy was out witht he food already but had no idea when the food would be delivered. Called again and asked for the manager. He was rude. Said the last time I called he told someome to "deliver the dam order" and that I was so far away (I'm only about 2 miles away and it's never been a problem before). Â When the delivery guy showed up, he handed me a bag that was torn and the sauce from the entree was dripping all over, and complains that he's not the delivery person (that's my fault??). Â After all that, none of the food was hot. Had to microwave it all, plus the meat was grisly. Â Not the first time I've had problems with delivery. Â
Note to the owner: you are in business because of your customers, so it shouldn't be an imposition to take good care of them, especially loyal customers like us.
Unless you want to eat grandma's 3 day leftovers don't bother dining at this place. My first experience was not exactly the best. I had a grilled fish with veggie platter, how hard is that? I felt like I was eating leftovers which is the worst feeling when dining out. The fact that I even had to pay for these "leftovers" made me feel even worse. I hear the pizza is great and that you can usually get a good cocktail at the bar-but I'm turned off now and have no reason to go back. Also-my bf informed me that their specialty is catering to funerals...wow!
Review Source:This place was in one word TERRIBLE.... DO NOT go here if you are looking for a good meal.
Stuffed mushroom- 3 small mushrooms luke warm and really gross
My wife ordered seafood gumbo it was so bad we were both convinced it was just the ministrone either way it sucked.
My salad awful creamy garlic at a italian place what a joke how are they being serious.
I got veal scallopini 3 extremely small little pieces with gross brown sauce that had a weird film on it like it had been sitting out. Not a good 19 dollars.
Wife got chicken cesar salad the chicken was burned the salad was decent.
Best part was the bread and diet cokes....don't go here we asked for the check and ran out of here...eat some spagettios if ur even considering goin here it really truly sucks....probably why it was empty.
Popeye's Chicken meal deal for $2.99 is much better compared with Colletti's Thursday fried chicken basket special that was burnt and dry for $12.99. The cole slaw tasted a few days old. The ravioli and spinach had so much melted cheap butter that it was just greasy. If chef is going to rely so much on butter for a pasta dish, then chef should buy a better quality butter. The fresh baked bread on the table was very good. Our server was told three times we were celebrating a birthday and he didn't put a candle on our guest's dessert, nor did he even wish her a "Happy Birthday." The bill was over $90.00 for three including appetizers, entrees and desserts, no liquor. We will never go back again because there are many better fine dining restaurants in that area.
Review Source:I've lived in Jefferson Park for about 5 yrs and drive by Colletti's all the time. Â I never once thought about dining at this place. Â I always assumed it was just for banquets. Â The parking lot is always full so I figured there was a private party in progress. Â The joke was on me!
I recently took my husband out to dinner for his birthday, and he chose Colletti's. Â I'm glad he did. Â We enjoyed it. Â He had the steak, mash potatoes and veggies. Â I hade the chicken Angelina. Â Parmesan crusted chicken breast, asparagus, wild rice in a light broth. Â It was delicious. Â The olive oil and bread were perfect. Â The garlic olive oil with bread was my favorite. Â
It's a great place for friends, family, and couples.
The first impression was not great, which should have been an indication for us to run out of there. The waitress took forever to bring us a menu and when she did she rushed us to place our order. The bussers were nice and accommodating, Â unfortunately that was not the same sentiment we had for our waitress.
The food was bland and overpriced. The only time we saw our waitress was when she rudely rushed us through our order. We finally saw her at the end to charge us.
My Mother in law paid for the food and left a tip of 12 for like $60-$70 worth of food.
The fastest we saw that waitress move was when she rushed over to us to rudely ask if we were dissatisfied with her service. I honestly wanted to say yes but when my mother in law said no the waitress rudely asked then why did we only top her 2 dollars.
First of all you don't question how much people tip you, second you learn how to count money before you accuse people of anything. Turns out the idiot miscounted and instead of recounting she confronted us.
I will never return to this overpriced, bland, rude place again! I'd rather keep giving my business to Supparossa's.
My girlfriend and I ate here tonight. Â We spent 60 bucks on a very average meal with 1 alcoholic beverage. Â It's Rib Night Wednesday so I had the burnt ribs with a teaspoon of BBQ sauce on them.
The lady had the tilapia and she stated" I could have made better at home, when I go to a restaurant, I want to taste something amazing." Â She also ordered the 10 dollar sandwich, but the 18 dollar meal came out.
It took almost 10 minutes to get served as well. Â On a bright side, the soups were very good and the bar was very nice. Â I'd go back for cocktails, but if I want ribs I'll go to Gale Street!
The bf took me here because he got a deal from Buyzooka. I did my homework and read the Yelp reviews on the way to dinner and I completely agree with everyone's underwhelmed sentiments.
Food tasted ok. Too expensive for its substandard quality, but again we got a decent portion off the tab thanks to that Buyzooka coupon so it worked out.
I thought the service at least was going to be stellar after reading people's reviews, but unfortunately we must've caught the one waitress that just wasn't having a good night (or maybe not having a good career, but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt). She didn't give attitude or anything like that, but she seemed a bit distracted and inattentive. She gave me the wrong soup, pretty much didn't visit our table after giving us our food until we were done. Â We were pretty much sitting there all thirsty because she didn't come by once to refill our glasses and it wasn't exactly a busy night with full tables. Â Lastly, she didn't know how to properly apply the coupon to our meal... Seriously?
All in all, a rather "eh" experience. Â As my bf and I discussed, unless you grew up eating here, you're probably not gonna be coming back. Yeah, food is decent, but for the same prices, I'm pretty sure your pasta and pizza could be sooo much better.
For some reason, my husband and his family like to plan events here. I'm not quite sure why. I have been here 5 times now for various gatherings. The last one was yesterday, for my surprise birthday party. It was definitely a surprise, since the planner, (the one who shall not be named), knows how much I dislike this place. The food is mediocre at best. We had the pizza package, and I was embarrassed when I ate it, because I did not think it was good, and thought others would think the same.
The service was good, and the waitress was accommodating.
I hope to be able to avoid future functions here. Some may like it, but, in my opinion, I don't.
Coletti's is deeply okay. Nice atmosphere, professional service, and the food? Well, the food is okay. Standard. Nothing terrible, but certainly nothing to write home about. It is okay on the level of Olive Garden okay. You could do worse, but in a city like Chicago, you can do oh-so-much better.
A club of which I'm a member had its annual monthly dinner at Coletti's last night. Eighteen people. A lot of food, a lot of variety. Everybody ate what they had. Nobody sent anything back. Lots of people took home doggie bags. The check was correct.
One example: the ministrone soup. I got soup with my entree. On a scale of 0 to 10, ten being outstanding, I'd give it a solid six. Not a lot of vegetables. Not a lot of beans/pasta/anything. A lot of tomato-like broth that tasted canned. I ate it. A day later, I'm not sick. But if that's the best you can say about food . . . well, you get the picture.
The man sitting across the table from me told me he rated the minestrone an 8 on the 0-10 scale. I must inform you, gentle reader, that he also informed me that he has never cooked a meal for himself in his life (he's 56), and he eats the same food every week without much change at all - sardines and broccoli six days a week, for example. Not exactly what I'd call an educated palate. If you, or your significant other, thinks Olive Garden is the height of sophisticated Italian dining, then Coletti's is the place for you.
Again, the service was professional, the place looks good, and there is a parking lot. That's something, I guess. Of course, I can say the same things about the Cat Hospital of Chicago, but I would never want to eat there.
Finally I went to Coletti's! I live around here and it's been open forever....I finally made it!
We walked in to your average middle-aged sausage fest. There was not one female in the place besides the bartender and our server. Â Just an observation and a warning/tip to those looking or not looking for this kind of crowd.
I came here after some slamming party at Rockit and we got pizza...thin crust veggie. We basically devoured the entire pizza, coming up for air once, maybe. Not bad thin crust I must say, then again I was blacked out and barely remember inhaling it, so who knows.
We were the only people in the place eating so the service was good. Â
I would definitely go back, maybe at a different time though. It's a plce for families; we were seated in the bar area since the dining room had closed.
I just really don't dig the middle-aged bar fly scene yet....give me about 40 years. Â Check with me then.
I've been a Colletti's customer for a long time, and I've never had a bad meal there. Â I won't say the food is spectacular, but at its best it's very good and pretty much worth what I pay for it. Â
This evening I went there with two friends who had never been before, mostly because we had a http://Restaurant.com certificate, and didn't want to drive very far. Â I have to say they were both impressed with the quality of the food and the service, and I felt it was up to the usual standards. Â You get a lot of bang for your buck there, and in fact I'd almost be happier with slightly lower prices for less food, but YMMV.
The only complaint I had tonight was that no one refilled our water. Â It's a small thing, but deserves mention. Â Oddly, the bus boy was on the spot for everything else. Â He just didn't think to give us more water.
Colletti's is a good, solid neighborhood place that's a little nicer and pricier than the average mom-and-pop spaghetti place, but as comfortable and friendly. Â You could do a lot worse.
I go to Colletti's on a semi-regular basis, and generally sit at the bar and order appetizers. Â The pizza is pretty good (when it's hot), the wings vary from good to laughable (last time they were tiny), service is good.
A friend had his 40th birthday in one of the banquet rooms recently. Â I thought the food was quite good, the service excellent, and the bar and bartender were both great, maybe even overly generous (my 'shots' were served in a 3/4 full rocks glass), lots of us were wasted by the end of the night. Â Alas, this tends to happen at open-bar affairs.
I haven't tried the majority of the menu, but what I've had has been good. Â It is a little old-school/traditional (the menu, the patrons and the ambience), so if you're looking for nouveau-whatever, this is not the place. Â It's not my favorite traditional Italian joint (that would be Sabatino's--their menu is a bit more adventurous and their portions are huge), but It's a solid family-type place, though maybe a little pricier than most. Â Bring mom, the kids and grandma.
Not sure I understand some of the bad reviews. Â I think this place is just fine. Â I've eaten here numberous times and never had a bad meal or bad service. Â While it may not be the showstopper of Italian Food, I think the food is done very well, reasonably priced and the service is good. Â
If you sit in the bar area you kind of get a feeling that some of the mob are in there planning their next gig with all the shifty eyes. Â But it's a fun place to people watch.
Fantastic thin crust pizza -- a hands-down favorite. Â
An old-fashioned neighborhood spot. Â Decor probably hasn't been updated since the 80s. Â Ample seating. Â Good service.
I haven't tried the bar yet, but I might now that the smoke is gone.
Insider tip: they run coupons in the local paper.
Parking: private lot
Bus: Central 85/85A, Pace 225/226
One of my closest girlfriends had her engagement party here. It's a bit out of the city, but the staff was very nice and the food was good-ish (typical banquet hall food).
Our bartender was fantastic. He was charming and poured very strong drinks. They skimp on lime wedges though... so make sure you ask for extra. I was tanked by the time we got through appetizers.
The calamari was a little rubbery, but the sausage/pepper kabobs were very good. Skip the dinner salad, unless you're into finely chopped iceberg lettuce. The roasted chicken was fantastic though. I had a bite of my friend's lasagna... it was deelicious! The steamed vegetables were buttery and good too.
the dessert tray was eh. The cream puffs were made with whipped cream, which was a disappointment. I didn't bother with the other dessert. My friend gobbled up the mini cannolis. He said they were fantastic.
I really liked their roasted chicken. And I don't eat chicken very often.
Went to Colletti's for Father's Day 2008. Â They first tried to seat us in the bar. Â Since we had kids with us, we really didn't need to watch all the drunks and losers so we asked for the dining room. Â The waiter and the fresh bread were the highlights of the evening. Â The food was barely passable. Â They should be embarrassed about their prices. Â Cobb salad anyone? Â If I wanted to eat iceberg lettuce for $10.50, I would have stayed home. Â The italian food was OK at best. Â We even got to listen to the waitresses loudly complain about the hostess. Â Nice touch. Â I'd rather eat at DUKEs across the street.
Review Source:Super nice people, well most of them anyway. Â I would give the five star big hello just because but there are a few bartenders that have been less than nice to me because of the company I keep. Â Hey, friends are there for friends, even if it interrupts your tete-a-tete with the used car salesman. Â The regular cast of characters added a star...trust me, they are fun.
I have a friend that lives nearby and often, this is the option. Â Its a great family run business but sometimes I feel like I'm in Peyton Place and all I want is some cocktails and bar food. Pizza is great and the sammies are delish. Â The kitchen staff is superb. Â If only some of the ladies behind the bar would get the chip off their shoulder, really. Â Don't be in the service industry if you don't want to serve. Â Enough said.
For a neighborhood Italian restaurant, it wasn't bad. Â I do have to agree with the general age of the patrons, even though my girlfriends and I are in our 30s, we were kind of on the young side last night.
Crusty bread was brought to the table, and was very tasty.
I ordered Chicken Parmesean... the chicken was a very good sized portion, and quite moist. Â It was served with a side of mostaccolli, which was aldente, and meat sauce. Â
One friend ordered the Chicken Angelina, both the chicken and the asparagus were perfect, and the baked potato, on the side, was not over or under cooked.
The other friend ordered the Cajun Salmon, in the beginning did say that it was a bit spicier than she'd expected, but said that the flavor wasn't too hot to eat, just a shock to her pallet.
All in all it was a nice experience at a moderately priced Italian restaurant, and I wouldn't mind trying it again.
My stepfather and I hosted my mom's retirement party in one of the banquet rooms here, and from beginning to end, everything was FABULOUS. Â The food is really good, the banquet rooms are nice (nothing at all like a senior citizen home's cafeteria), and the servers who were assigned to our party were extremely accomodating. Â Considering what you pay for versus what you receive in return, this place is an inredible value.
We decided to pay for an open bar for all of our guests, rather than just open a tab. Â A couple of my guests ordered things that weren't included with the package (like ultra top-shelf scotch), so the servers checked with me first to make sure that it was okay, but ultimately ended up not even charging me for it anyway. Â They also waived the cake-cutting fee (I brought in a cake from a local bakery).
We were truly treated like family here, and I would throw another party at Colletti's in a heartbeat.
This was a second choice dinner spot, snce the first was closed on Mondays. Â This place has a classic traditional type of feel to it. Â It seems like more middle age people like to dine here, but probaby because of the neighborhood. Â We started off with martinis and I had the bluberry cake and my friend had the Pomegranate. Â Both were delicious. Â The bread is really nice and warm here, and it's the type where you have to cut up yourself. Â We split the shrimp cocktail, and I find it strange that it would come in a serving of 5. Â It's such an odd number. Â It was very good though, and a tease since we were looking to eat seafood earlier. Â I had a pretty ordinary salad with ranch dressing, which tasted like Hidden Valley Ranch which I don't really care for. Â I had the Snapper Special which came with a choice of wild rice or a baked potato and veggies. Â This was pretty good, and I tried my friend's sausage and escarole which was very tasty. Â Our waitress was very professional and attentive. Â I think the food is very pricey for not being in a more happeing neighborhood and even then compared to other great Italian restaurants on the whole. Â I'd probably stick to some place closer to me for Italian.
Review Source:I held my daughter's baptism luncheon here. Â The place seemed nice enough and the manager was also quite nice throughout the planning process. Â We elected to serve a family style lunch. Â The food was okay, nothing spectacular but nobody got sick or complained.
My only complaint was the bartender and the bar tab itself. Â I opened a tab for all of the guests at the beginning of the event. Â The bartender completely ripped me off. Â He did not keep track of anyone paying for their own drinks, he just tacked it on to the tab and kept the money. Â To top is off he was sloooow and had quite an abrasive personality.
Would I ever go back... probably not. Â I know I won't be having a banquet there!
Colletti's has decent food, good service, and an atmosphere that is somewhat old-fashioned but not "musty". Â An excellent northwest-side choice if you need to treat a moderate-to-large size crowd to a reliable sit-down dinner. Â Seems to be often busy but never crowded, the patrons tend to be older and more blue-collar so it's a nice relief from the yuppie-laden crowds you find in more trendy italian places.
Review Source:I was surprised by how extensive their menu of authentic Italian cuisine is. Excellent steaks and ribs as well. This is a place I would recommend for a special occasion, they are slightly on the upscale side. Â The servers all work very hard and are attentive, but not so much so that they are stalkers, do you know what I mean. Some places that kind of attentiveness can make you uncomfortable. There is a parking lot which is always a plus for me.
