I was looking for a place to go on a Friday night that was in Chicago but not too far from my home in the suburbs. I saw that this place had 4.5 stars so I wanted to check it out.
When I arrived, I have to say I was a little disappointed. First of all, the neighborhood looked kind of shady. There was only like one other place open on the entire street, so the whole town just seemed kind of dead. I think on a Friday night I expect a bar and the area around it to be bustling with people, but it felt like there was no one out here. Then again, I have never been to this neighborhood, so I can't really judge. Maybe it's just not what I'm used to.
Inside the bar though, there were plenty of people hanging out. They only have like four or so tables downstairs which were all full, so we headed upstairs which was pretty empty. There is less room up there, but we pretty much had the whole space to ourselves and one other group. Our server was really nice, but I think the service is slower upstairs since everyone is mostly downstairs.
The food, on the other hand, was something I did enjoy. I got the ramen salad for only $1.50, so it was a nice snack. The beer prices were decent too. We also ordered fried mushrooms and boneless wings which were both pretty good.
I guess I can see how it can be really popular bar in the summer because there's supposed to be bags and games on the outside patio upstairs. But it's winter now, and for me, I just didn't really get it. I would recommend this place based on the food and the prices, but I wasn't feeling the atmosphere - at least not during the winter. It kind of is like a dive bar, so I think it maybe just is not my personal preference.
