I came here for a college alum mixer during happy hour on a Thursday. It's located in a nice area of Santa Monica. I tried the Pisco Sour and it was really good, though I wasn't sure what to expect of the "pasteurized egg" ingredient! Definitely come for happy hour since drinks are $5. Plus they use fresh fruits from an organic farmer's market in their drinks. The employees working there were a bit (excessively) snippy about us gravitating too close to the bar and blocking the entrance to the bathrooms. But all in all, I definitely would come back and hang out here.
Review Source:Way packed. Super packed.
Tons of bros. Like... way too many bros. Like... bro heaven.
To be fair, I can understand why: no cover charge, very stiff pours, friendly-ish bartenders. Just wish they'd limit the crowds just a little bit. If I need to elbow my way through a crowd of bros just to go potty, that's too many people.
Came here on a Saturday night with a group of girlfriends, and we had a ton of fun! The music was way loud for a bar/lounge, it was almost like a club with no cover charge. The variety of cocktails were fun to try! The bartenders were super busy... felt kind of bad for them. I think they should get one more bartender back there on their busy nights, they were swamped. It took them a while to get everyone's drinks.
However, despite that, I had a great time. The bartender made us a yummy pineapple, vanilla, vodka shot! I don't know what it's called, but it sure was yummy. The Asian Pear Martini was pretty good. Not as sweet as I would have liked it, but it was strong. And my Cosmo was made to perfection!
Thanks Copa d'Oro!
Are you kidding me? What a happy hour!
The last and best spot on our happy hour hop. Apparently they have happy hour all day on Monday which basically means their cocktails (which they have a large selection) are half price ($5)!
I've been in a whisky mood as of late so ordered a couple of Manhattans while my friend ordered some Pisco Sours.
Each were very good and for that price? it's a no-brainer. I also liked the dark speak-easy type vibe and the service was just fine. It'd be very difficult to find a happy hour like this in the Bay Area.
The drinks are good. I like that u can name ingredients and they will make up something on the spot. Unlike most mixology spots the guys that work here are not snobs should you decide to order a beer. Also unlike most mixology spot these drinks are strong, not to pricey, and get you very very drunk. The music gets better the more you drink. Lot of guilty pleasure songs mixed in with popular song and rap jams from back in the day. If you stay there long enough you will find yourself drunkenly singing along. I went with my gf, but my friends who went solo were approached by attractive chicks the entire time we were there (something I've never seen). I remember having fun and early the next day has a splitting headache to prove it.
Review Source:I really enjoy their specialty cocktails, which are made with interesting fresh ingredients like bell pepper, jalapeno, and herbs. They're also good with classics like the Old Fashioned, my go-to drink. I haven't tried the food in a long time, so I can't say much about that. The bathroom situation is pretty good which I always appreciate.
I don't like how crowded it gets on Friday/Saturday evenings, because it gets pretty difficult to walk around, and 3rd St Promenade area parking is never great.
What I have found with Yelp, that if you search "hipster bars" you tend to find some cool spots. Thats how I found Copa d'Oro. I came here around 8pm on a Tuesday night with my husband. I immediately loved the ambiance and we sat at the bar. I ordered a pisco sour. I had never had one, but I had heard of them on Mad Men. Its now my favorite drink ever! I think I had 3 there that night. Also a major plus was that our bartender looked liked Ryan Gosling, thats reason alone to visit. We didn't try any food, but everything that passed us looked like worth trying. Copa d'Oro is a must try when in Santa Monica.
Review Source:This place is right by the ocean, so I was blown away by how inexpensive the cocktails and bar food here were during happy hour. I'm talking $5-$6 cocktails. The atmosphere of this place was nice, too. Dark, spacious, and the perfect volume so that you could hear someone talking to you without straining your ears. Granted we came in Wednesday after work, so there was probably less bustle than a Friday or Saturday night. Our waitress was attentive without hovering around us. We ordered the cheese board and the doctor's orders and primavera paninis. They were all delicious. I also got a daiquiri with blackberries and would definitely recommend that for those who like sweet, fruity drinks.
Review Source:I immediately liked the feel of this place when I walked in for drinks on a Thursday night. An artist was painting to the left, and it was far from crowded - perfect for a nice finish to a chill evening.
I only had a couple drinks, and they ranged from okay to pretty good. Each drink was carefully crafted as I watched, but the result wasn't always what I thought it might be. I started with the Asian pear, an undeniably fruity drink served in a martini glass, and I liked that. But not wanting to stick to the traditional, I asked for  the King De Bahia, which I was told was a popular spicy drink. Finished with a jalapeno slice, I knew this one meant business. I like spicy drinks, but other than the kick there just wasn't very much there for me.
I think Happy Hour is definitely the move here. The crowd may be more dense, but the value for the money would sit just right with me!
I came here with for a couple drinks. Great cocktail list and price point.
The place is dark and very romantic for a date. Maybe not the first date because it so hard to heard with loud music and everyone shouting. Apparently every first Friday of the month, if the men dress up like Nucky Thompson you get a free cocktail. I got to remember that for next time.
I ordered Affinity and Mint Julep. Affinity is a real man's drink. I ordered Mint Julep because it was advertised as the oldest American cocktail; with all the mint in there it tasted like a Mojito.
I enjoy coming here just to watch the mixologists do their thing. And these are truly mixologists, not crappy wannabes. The drinks are creative and fabulous, and I actually get a buzz, unlike at most of the other establishments where they put almost no liquor in the drinks. Somehow I always manage to squeeze in and get a seat at the bar, even when the place is packed. I can't really find anything bad to say about this place other than the fact that it gets too crowded, but that's good for their business and they definitely deserve it.
When you want a classy and creative drink, this is definitely the place to be.
This place had a great list of house specialty drinks. We sampled a couple which were both delicious.
The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. In fact, this evening our party consisted of just two girls. At first we sat at the bar, but after about 10 minutes of unwanted attention from the man seated next to us we moved to a table. After a few more minutes the same man approached us, completely unsolicited. Immediately, not one, but two, bouncers swept in to guide him away and check if we were OK. We didn't even have to hint we were in distress. We were in the back end of the bar, and these employees swept in to our rescue out of nowhere. I really felt appreciated and looked after as one of their own on my first visit here. I will definitely return for the drinks and the level of service.
Loved the vibe. Â Loved the music. Â Loved the whisky drinks. Â The music that was playing leads me to believe that they cater to the 30 something crowd. Â I came about a month ago so I don't remember the exact songs they were playing but I do recall liking the songs they played because they were old school and took me back - back in the days when I was young...but I'm not a kid anymore...but then some days I wish I was a kid again...If you're thirty something or just wanna hang out with 30 somethings, then check it out!
Review Source:Awesome happy hour deals and a nice selection of cocktails that will please anyone.
I would recommend going around opening (if you're planning on taking advantage of their happy hour deals) since they get crowded really quickly.
I'm a huge pisco sour fan, but there's was a bit watered down for my taste. The mint julip is VERY minty so I would steer clear of that if you're not a mint fan.
Their food options are decent as well. The cheese and meat platter was yummy and pretty hefty. Their basil pesto dip was yummy as well. Very filling.
Parking is convenient at any of the lots for the Promenade.
I love a place that offers happy hour all day (Monday) and every other day of the week in the evening. The only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars is that the drinks are tasty and interesting and the place is classy enough without being pretentious and heinously overpriced. Â I've been here several times, because well, let's face it, Santa Monica does not have a lot of options. Â Do not go here on a date or if you want to have a conversation, unless you have superhero hearing ability. Â The acoustics are awful!! Â I always leave with no voice and ringing ears. Â The food is ok. Â The service is ok. Â The clientele is a good mix of good looking people. Â You can reserve tables. Â Some guy was about to have a 20's themed birthday party when I was here last, and that looked like a lot of fun. Â Seating is limited but not impossible like some other places in Santa Monica.
Review Source:I thought it was a 5 star on Thursday night we were there but it was so crowded on a Sat, I would give the Sat a 3 star. So on average it's a 4 star.
I liked it better on Thurs because it was quiet, romantic, great drinks and good service. It was so packed on Sat we couldn't even move. But I guess if that's what you are after, this place is for you.
Went there last Thur around 7pm and the place was quite full. They've expanded the happy hr menu to include their own cocktail creations and unfortunately, my staple Tommy's margarita has gone up from $5 to $6. Also got one of their bourbon drinks which was good- also at $6. Must say that miss the "old" happy hour where you cld even get panini toasts+nutella ones for $5-$7. Still-the Tommy margarita is done oh so well that it deserves an extra star just for that fact alone!
Review Source:I avoid this place on Fridays and Saturdays but any other day of the week I'm a fan. I hate being in super crowded, super loud areas and that's exactly what happens on the weekend.
Drinks are cheap. Nice atmosphere. HH is all night on monday. Lemon and artichoke dip is a must. If you sit at the bar and talk to the bartenders they'll most likely make you a drink that's not on the happy hour menu for happy hour price.
Enjoy!
Great place! I've been here a few times. But the first time it was so crowded that I feel like I didn't get a good enough experience to write about. However, I went last week and it was a blast. The drinks were great, the staff was friendly and we got a table in a little cove that was perfection for our larger group. The music was also really great, lots of mixture and very fun.
I had a moscow mule and while they don't serve it in a copper mug, like you should, it was very good! SO many places don't make it with ginger beer and that's just a sad moscow mule. But they use a good ginger beer here so that's a bonus!
I would definitely go back - loads of fun.
I've only been here once during their five dollar happy hour (!!!) but I'm a huge fan. This is a great little place to come grab a drink that manages to feel classy without being pretentious. The bartenders know their stuff and make stiff drinks. That's the most important aspect of bars and pubs. Everything else comes second.
The space isn't huge and it gets busy pretty quickly. You can sit at the bar, on the cool couches or at the little tables. Or you can be really awkward and stand right in the middle where people are walking and cause a human traffic jam. (I'm looking at you 20 something suits)
My second place in Santa Monica to get a good cocktail right behind Misfit. Drinks are range from across the spectrum. From your classic cocktails to new age concoctions Copa d'Oro does it well. It is expensive but you are in Santa Monica so what else do you expect.
The atmosphere is chill and relaxed but it can get packed at which times I try to avoid it like the plague. Very good place to take a date or have a relaxed time with a friend. Their happy hour is also amazing and well worth it. They do have somewhat of a dress code so don't expect to get in with your beach attire FYI.
I love the vibe, I love the drinks, it's only the best bar in the Third Street Promenade area!
Happy Hour is amazing! $5 drinks!
I was denied Bar Chloe two times in a row, and each time I "ended up" at Copa. After finally getting inside Bar Chloe tonight, I realized I hadn't missed out on anything. Copa is just superior. Their drink menu is so much more diverse and plentiful.
If only this place was closer to Westwood... or Pasadena.
They use a lot of ginger beer in their cocktails!
i was excited to try a place right off of Third St, that wasn't a sports bar or a pub. I'm a fan of good cocktails, not the ones that are not named AMF or require red bull. But actually good and strong
Drink List:
Manhattan - made correctly, balanced perfectly, it wasn't too busy, but not too sweet.
Next up
The Doctor - made with Sazerac Rye Whiskey, this drink was so smooth, but scary smooth. The drink was strong, but goes down smooth. I love the way it just hits your lips
No dress code, but have a little class, just a little lol
The place is dim and after 10:30 this place gets crowded and loud. But the crowd wasn't rowdy and was a cool hangout
I will be back over and over again. Can't wait to try there $5 happy hour
Stop #3 on the SM bar crawl. Glad we ended up here.. although I don't remember much.
Crowd is pretty young and mixed. Thank you for diversity! Quick check of the ID, no wait, and you're in. It's a relaxed atmosphere with decent music. I wish there were more of a dance floor, but at least they have the room for one. The bar wasn't incredibly crowded so it was easy to grab a drink. The bartender suggested a different tequila because they didn't have Avion, and it was a great pick.
Nothing too fancy, but it's a great last stop.
I've been here twice now, so I believe that qualifies me to be an expert on the subject of Copa d'Oro. The first time I went was for happy hour where I had amazing drinks for only $5 a pop. I don't even think I need a follow up sentence to that. However, I will follow that up by warning you that it gets really loud in there during happy hour so it's hard to have a conversation with the people sitting right next to you.
The second time, I went on a Saturday night when it was much busier (much louder) but still an enjoyable experience. The DJ spins great music (mostly hip hop) but since the crowd is just a tad bit older, you're not constantly bumping into young girls trying to be slutty on the dance floor. In fact, there isn't a dance floor, just people dancing by their seats or by the bar. The night I went there was only one waitress but she was working super hard to make sure everyone was happy. It was also easy to get a drink from the bar. Â No lines, no cover, no BS. Just a cool spot to go to if you're trying to lay low for the evening.
$5 cocktails, 5:30-8pm. I don't see how there can be any other Happy Hour option in Santa Monica, especially in comparison to all the nondescript places all up and down 3rd Street. (Border Grill, on 4th, has the other best HH.)
Awesome 'Depression Era' drink list with lots of classic bourbon and gin cocktails. I know a couple vodka people are not as crazy about the sole vodka on the list, a Moscow Mule, but as a whiskier type, I'd be here, I dunno, hourly, if it were close by.
Five. Dollar. Cocktails. People.
I give this place 4 stars for their happy hour, however if I had paid full price it would quickly drop to 2.
We came here over the weekend because my friend was raving about their happy hour drinks. $5 for a cocktail is unheard of in LA, so I was very excited.
The place was not crowded, the drink menu was interesting, and the service was fairly helpful (a bit ditzy though. Our waitress kept forgetting our drinks.). I had three of their cocktails: the ward eight (twice, yummy), the gold rush, and a mojito.
The ward eight: Perfect blend of fruit, tart, bourbon, and sweet. By far my favorite cocktail.
Mojito: A joke. I'm sorry, but this was not a mojito. This was rum with soda water. There was no lime, mint, or sweetness to this drink. I love mojitos, and as people who read my reviews know, I am on the quest to find the perfect mojito place (my ultimate mojito sadly is at a Jamaican restaurant in Barcelona, where the restaurant was opened just for us). I've had better mojitos at chain restaurants then here. Â Â
Gold rush: Big burbon flavors. If you like bourbon (I do) then you will like this.
I tasted the Diablo as well, but that was just straight up tequila.
The drinks here are a little strong (but that is how I like it), and the layout is terribly awkward, but for $5 I couldn't complain. None of the drinks are worth $15 they normally charge, but well worth the $5 happy hour.
This dim, classy little place is hidden right in the heart of Third Street Promenade, across the street from Nordstrom and around the corner from the Nike store. They've got a great menu of strong happy hour cocktails - only $5 a pop from 5 to 8 p.m., and all night on Mondays! The Buck Fizz packs a bubbly punch, the mojito is perfectly refreshing, and I'll probably end up trying everything on the menu at some point. Like, within the year.
This is my absolute favorite happy hour joint - perfect for a few drinks after a day of window shopping, or a quick and inexpensive round before dinner out on the town. Â (Recessionistas have to strategize.)
While this may be a five star review, I do feel the need to point out a few things about this place. It's extremely loud and seems more suited for the 25-to-40 crowd. If you're looking for a place to have a soulful conversation over a glass of wine, this isn't it. I am also extremely turned off by the screaming groups of girls that seem to think this place is a club. I realize this isn't Copa d'Oro's fault, but that of those girls' parents. Also, their bouncers are very unfriendly, verging on downright unpleasant - but you'll forget all about them after a few drinks. The pros here definitely outweigh the cons, and I'll be back soon!
