We visited Crown and Anchor during our annual Thanksgiving trip to Provincetown. It's always fun to throw in a drag show! This time of year in Provincetown is really chill and relaxing. Stores are open but it's not super crowded and you can really relax and take your time. We saw the drag show "Illusions" here. It was OK. I've been to much better drag shows (better costumes, voices, songs). I expected them to use their own voices, but soon realized they were just lip-synching. Most of the performers were keen on getting tips and didn't really pay any attention to anyone else. I've heard the food at the restaurant is great, so I will definitely check that out next time. Overall, it's decent  entertainment during the down season.
Review Source:The @#$% that manages the restaurant/bar should only be allowed to work with dead people. Â He's got the charm of a rat. Â I was staying at their most expensive room. Â In the morning I was attending a function in one of the function rooms and it was raining outside. Â There is a door that takes you from the hotel through the restaurant/bar and into the back function rooms. Â There's no sign saying to NOT use this door so I used it. Â Little miss !@#$ pants gave me the worst attitude. Â If you don't want people to use the !@$#ing door that put a sign up. Â !@#$ me, I would respond to crayon on paper if you took the time to tape it up. Â OTHER than him the place is pretty good. Â The food is good, sometimes amazing. Â The drinks are good and kind of cheap for a resort town. Â All of the other staff have been great. Â I will be avoiding this place because of !@#$ for brains. Â I will say that my room was way over priced but I did really like it... that's what you get for a resort town. Â I am surprised by the contrast in customer service in Ptown in general. Â Some people act like tourists are a pain in the !@#$ and some people are so friendly it blows me away. Â If you don't like tourists don't !@#$ing work here wtf?????!?!
Review Source:This was our first night out during our stay in Truro. It rained the whole way up so we were still damp and the sight of heaters in the restaurant did catch my eye. The waitress was friendly and helpful and even let us move tables when the heaters became too toasty. We split a half dozen oysters that came with a champagne marinade. I was sold on the short ribs and garlic mashed potatoes with grilled root veggies. I figured I'd skip the veggies but they were so tasty and the ribs were tender and delicious. My partner got the lobster platter which was also fantastic. Overall a great start to our vacation.
Review Source:We love to eat at the Central House Restaurant at the Crown and Anchor especially since it is so close to Gabriel's (one block).
The outdoor patio is very comfortable even in November with the help of overhead gas heaters and drop down curtains. Some of our favorites are lobster Mac n Cheese, crispy brussels sprouts, beet salad, and their wild mushroom spaghetti.
This is also a great place to frequent for drinks and the cabaret. The staff is aways friendly. Tell them Elizabeth from Gabriel's sent you.
So, we had to cancel our over night stay in P-town at the Crown & Anchor due to a family matter, My wife and I are caregivers. Â When I called to cancel, the very rude person by the name of Little Ricky told us that we missed our 3 week window to cancel and we would have to pay for the room. Let me ask you.
We made the reservations on Thursday of last week. Today is Monday, two business days later. How does our situation fit into this cancellation policy????
We have in the past on our day trips, made this our last stop before heading to the ferry. This was a great stop for us at the end of the day.
But with the phone conversation I had with this very cold and un-caring person on the phone, The Crown & Anchor will be the LAST place we ever stop in P-town.
God forbid you ever have to be a caregiver with limits on your traveling and a family issue comes up that you have to cancel what little traveling you can do.
So, one call to Amex and we are off and running..
Crown and Anchor, Bad call on your part.
WOW, The power of suggestion. A refund statement just appeared in my Email..
Delicious needs a new definition, after dining at The Crown & Anchor. The Roast Pork Chop was perfectly cooked, as were the brussel sprouts... they were crisp and flavorful! I hate soggy brussel sprouts, Â and these were the best I ever ate. Â Fireplace was life and soft music. Nice to see so many Provincetown locals here
Review Source:We went to the Crown and Anchor the first week of November. We just happened to stumble in on a 2 for 1 entree Tuesday night. We were seated out in the covered patio area with awesome heaters above us. Candle light, a super nice waiter named Noah and amazing food. I had Wild Salmon with rice and wilted spinich. My husband had stuffed Mahi Mahi. Great wine as well...which they corked and placed in a sealed bag for us. This is in the fun, quaint part of Provincetown. Not too much to do post dinner in Provincetown on a November night - but we thoroughly enjoyed dinner.
Review Source:Other bars in P-Town are fantastic fun. This bar, however, was not. The drinks are weak and overpriced, but it's a touristy town so I could have gotten over that. What I could not get over was the bartender shushing my friends and I! We're in a bar for goodness sake. Then she kept telling us to move away from the bar, but there was barely anyone else there so it's not like we were blocking anyone from getting a drink. When we finally decided to leave the owner was unbelievably rude to us. I will never return to this place and strongly encourage others to deny them your business as well.
Review Source:The Crown & Anchor was the venue for our wedding reception/dinner last weekend. What a blast! The food was scrumptious from the delicate crab cake appetizers to the presentation of the traditional steamed lobsters which brought about a chorus of oohs and aahs from all our guests. Even the hardcore Chicago carnivores raved about the NY strip steaks. We could not have been more pleased with the food, the top-notch service, and the elegant yet laid-back atmosphere. I wouldn't have changed a thing.
Review Source:The Crown & Anchor is a bit of a mix. It is a hotel but it also has a couple of separate bars and a restaurant so keep that in mind when reading some of these reviews. Obviously Provincetown is a huge gay destination so that is the crowd they cater to and that is most of what you will find here which is why some people come to sleep and play and others just come to play. Now on to the review...
The hotel is really nice. It's not a chain and I wouldn't call it a boutique but our room was clean and comfortable. We had a nice little fireplace, wet bar, comfy bed and an awesome balcony overlooking the pool and harbor. The service was really friendly and I felt like I was staying with friends. The price was a bit spendy but we did go during high season on a busy weekend.
The bar was great but I felt the drink prices were a bit high. The crowd was really fun and I didn't run out of different people to talk to all night.
The location is probably the best. You are by the water. You have multiple places onsite to eat and drink and you really are in the middle of it all. Pretty much most of what you would want to see and do in Ptown proper is no more than a 10 minute walk away.
PROTIP: If you are going on a party weekend and plan on drinking there is a little liquor store across the way. Get your own bottles and mixers and you'll save a lot of cash. They close early though (I think 11) so plan ahead.
A friend and I were intrigued by the dinner deal "Buy One Entree Get One Free" in front of this seemingly high class restaurant/hotel. The soup was delicious, but to our surprise...BOTH ENTREES WERE COLD! I wondered how this could possibly be if mine were "hot" stuffed lobster tails, and his were steak tips -- They obviously don't cook from scratch, nor do they use fresh ingredients. And although we got one free entree, it certainly wasn't worth the experience. Friendly service, but awful food and unjustifiably over-priced entrees! I highly suggest avoiding this restaurant.
Review Source:I love the terrace seating, the outdoor bar, the pool.
The main reason I'm giving these guys a high rating (i've never been there clubbing) is because they really stepped it up a few years ago when the GMDVP's Birdman festival was in peril due to insurance issues.
Pretty much, every year people would make flying contraptions and then jump off the pier while other people would collect donations for the Gay Men's Domestic Violence Project (i was one of the donation collectors). Long story short, they couldn't get the event insured so the Crown and Anchor stepped up and let everyone jump in their pool instead. Obviously not as dramatic as jumping off the pier, but still, good on them for trying to help save some of the spirit of the event.
Oh the famous Crown & Anchor, how I spent many a crazy night here dancing my way to gay star heaven.
A HOT sweaty club to bump and grind your way to some of the best dance music around. On special events and holidays, they fly in big named DJ's to spin. I LOVE the outside terrace which provides a respite from the intense heat and crowds.
Before the big night, they also have a small video/ poor bar "Wave" which is attached to the big club.
Yes there is an stiff cover on the big weekends and certain holidays, but its a happening place and you want to be where the big boys are.
I was sucked in by the allure of the romantic terrace seating (felt like I was in New Orleans). Â Very good service, ice cold beer - but, alas, horrible food! Â I had a steak and brie sandwhich which was served on stale multi-grain bread - dry and flavorless... no thanks. Â My friends both ordered the lobster mac and cheese (the waitress said it was her favortie dish) - dry, no flavor at all and the (obviously) frozen lobster (err, hello, this is Cape Cod) was water logged, soggy and bland... well, a little "fishy" but not succulent and buttery as lobster should be. Â Even the bloody mary's weren't very good. Â We sadly paid our $100 lunch check and walked to the deli for a slice of pizza.
