Although the decor was not quite as creepy as I would have expected for this themed eatery/bar, and it was a little bright inside to fit into the crypt category, that is the only downside we experienced.
The food was absolutely delicious! Everything was very high-end, from the large, square white plates to the local meats and cheeses, very carefully prepared. The four people in our party each thoroughly enjoyed their meals, from the spinach salad to the steak quesadilla to the gourmet grilled cheese (with bacon added for only $1, because everything tastes better with bacon!) However, the prices were anything BUT high end! Everything was VERY reasonably priced, and the portion sizes were perfect.
The service was attentive and answered all of our questions about the food and the restaurant very thoroughly. We were made to feel like friends, not customers. Very nice selection of beverages on tap!
We were there during the time period that straddled the end of the dinner hours and the beginning of the club portion of the show, and we were treated to a little light show and some dance music with our amazing desserts! The fried oreos and grimdrops are not to be missed!
We'll definitely be back - and I plan on bringing more friends next time!
I love love loved this bar. Â It involves my two favorite things: bad pop music and halloween decorations. Â It's especially fun because if you're a tourist interested in the "ghostly" aspects of Savannah and you want to go out, this is definitely the bar for you. Â The only downside was that it got a bit crowded. Â If you're a female though you can just get on stage and dance, and it isn't as crowded. Â I went to a few other dance clubs while on vacation in Savannah and the crypt was by far my favorite.
Review Source:Not the place to go for dinner. Â Turn around and come back later to party in the ghoulishly cool nightclub. Â The waitress was not concerned with us as dinner guests--candles were unlit, and when we asked her if she could turn down the freezing a/c, she refused citing that they want to keep the place cool for the late night activities. Â Despite us being dining afterthoughts, the food was OK, minus a football chicken sandwich that landed on my plate. Â Decent truffle fries and a relatively nice black bean burger.
Review Source:I wandered in here thinking I would just have a beer after an afternoon of shopping, and before dinner. The bartender was so friendly and let me sample several beers, while recommending things on the menu.
The menu - all the items are named with "horror" themes, but are surprisingly un-scary. Not the usual pub grub, that's for sure. I had an appetizer of sustainable salmon over an apple slaw with fennel. Wowza. And all the dishes were like that - organic, sustainable, local ingredients. Very cool.
It was a Sunday afternoon, so the place was not very busy, but the people who were in there were all friendly and I ended up staying awhile and imbibing a bit more.
Very cool, creepy place that is full of delightful surprises.
I went into The Crypt Pub for the first time on Sunday evening. I sat at the bar and one of the bar tenders handed me a food menu and a drink menu. After that it was if I didn't exist, and the bar was not crowded. One bartender continued talking to one patron that he obviously knew. The other one was chatting on the phone. So I left. Not a very good impression.
Review Source:To address one complaint I saw in many of the negative reviews: they *do* now have a drink menu. Â My girlfriend and I shared the "dead head" which was strong enough that neither of us felt any need to have another drink for the remainder of the evening. Â It was also pretty cool to be drinking from a ominously smoking and bubbling glass skull.
The food was quite good- we had the voodoo chicken (which had tasty sweet potato chips on top) and the chocolate drop for desert (which my girlfriend succinctly described as "orgasmic"). Â We will definitely be back to sample more of the menu, which looked quite interesting.
The service was very good and the theming was great (although the place would have seemed a bit creepier if the lights were dimmer).
I can't really review the food from the place, because I never got served. Â The bar staff was aloof and unfriendly. Â When I was there, it was hardly crowded and nobody said a word. Â Not even a "hello, will be with you in a minute". Â We walked out and I don't think anyone noticed. Â If the service gets better, maybe I'll give it a chance.
Review Source:I was happy to try out a new Savannah bar-- especially one with a name like "The Crypt". Yes, I know it's really "the crypt pub".. but doesn't just "Crypt" sound cooler?
Moving on.. got here around 11 on a Wednesday and the place was pretty, ahem, dead.. granted it has been open only a few weeks and SCAD isn't in session yet. They had a few cheap drink specials going on which I appreciated, but thought it was odd that they were out of Ketel 1, Stoli, and regular Belvedere. Â The had a decent assortment of draft beers, but since there was no drink menu, I'm not sure what the bottles were like.. which brings me to the big question of "WHERE IS THE DRINK MENU??" Definitely not practical to have the bartenders rattle off options if the place gets crowded.
A note on the decor: I think the Crypt is having an identity crisis. With a name like "the crypt" I really expected the place to be either in the style of a campy B-horror movie, or super elegant like a real life "Fangtasia" a la "True Blood". What I found was a little bit of both which made feeling out the vibe of the place a little confusing.
The center of The Crypt is a really beautiful horse shoe shaped bar. Definitely liked that-- seems like it will make getting drinks easier during busy nights. The lights around the liquors also added some elegance. But then there were the disco lights.. and that awful, typical, "Chiller" font that crowded the food menu...
Overall, I would like to try the place again after it has been a little more established.. I definitely won't write it off completely but it might be a while until I check it out again.
So if you ever wanted to Eat/Drink in a horror movie, well here is your chance. Â The Horror Themed eatery is a very fun place to go for a meal, a drink or as I also experienced a great night spot. Â The food is good, try the mummy wraps or the Chicken sandwich with the habenjero sauce. Â Drink specials are nice during happy hour and they have a strong selection of craft beers too. Â
I liked he small details that are found here, such as, the overhead lighting is made to look old and classic, the art work that changes on the wall is a lot of fun too. Â Def. worth checking out.
well, i was, as most people who live in savannah are, Â excited about a new bar opening up... but, i have to say, i don't know WHO would want to drink here...??? i have been to worse places, but as far as bars go, this one is no good. Â i assumed that by the name and drippy blood letters of their address that this place would be campy in the best way... but on their grand opening night (the night everything should be the best ever....) i was turned off. Â the staff was wearing black and red "sexy" tops, so when they were mixing drinks you could tell who has and hasn't paid for their shirt filler... the music was terrible... they were listening to the radio, and it was pretty loud, so, i could here other places being advertised... sorry if i was expecting the cure, or even joy division... but really, i would have been happy with anything that wasn't the radio. Â in these days of "internet" surely something else could have been done... but it doesn't stop there... we asked for a drink menu... they didn't have one. Â we got a print out of beers, with no prices, so my partner and i some how picked the most expensive beers on the menu... no big deal, cause we only had one drink, but it would have been nice to know... i was planning on a cocktail, because again, i assumed a place that's really going for a "dark halloween" feel would have a great cocktail list... spooky drinks, black drinks, drinks with glow sticks, dry ice, and eye balls... but instead, i was told, NO, no cocktail list. Â HOW SAD!!! i would have overlooked EVERYTHING else i thought was wrong if they had cool drinks... we may have even stayed for dinner, but nope... we left. Â it took us a long time to get our checks, and even longer to get our change... i don't know if they assumed they needed a $20 tip, but the service was not worthy. Â the bartender wasn't bad, but the gal that was working with him was a bit rude... so, over all, i would say... NOPE, not was i was hoping for, and no, i wouldn't go back, or even send someone once just to see it. Â find somewhere else to spend your money.
Review Source:this is a weird spooky themed bar, quite gimicky with skulls all over the place and weird digital pictures that are like that zombie pride and prejudice book. if you like hot topic, you will love the atmosphere. otherwise, you will probably hate it. the staff looks like the cast from rock of love, only wearing matching red and black frederick's of hollywood attire. our bartender was kind of a bitch after she forgot to give me a pen to sign my credit card statement. the drinks were kind of expensive. the food menu actually looked good, however i doubt we will ever go back. im not too crazy about ordering food with stupid names instead of just saying what it really is. also, i just cant bear the thought of going back in there.
Review Source:What a awesome pub. Â Great food and ambiance.
The Crypt is full of plenty of surprises. Â With dancing skeletons singing and dancing. Ghosts in some locations you don't expect.
Hair raising drinks, like the dead head... Yum.
Things you won't expect like great food, drinks, but some spooky decor of surprises. Â The witchy women here are pretty hot as well.
