We were looking for someplace to hang out at after the local restaurants had closed. Â At the Boar's Head, they recommended Abe's. Â As we neared the place, we heard the sweet sound of live blues coming out of the door. Â We walked in to a wall of humidity (the a/c was "on the fritz") to a less than crowded bar. Â Girls dancing to the guitarist and the harmonica playing blues singer, an eclectic mix of people sprinkled about the small, dim bar...it was perfect. Â
The Blackhawks even won the Stanley Cup the night we were there...they were playing it on a flatscreen TV above the live music. Â Like I said: eclectic.
We just happened to walk in on "open jam" night (a Monday), but I wish I were local for this place alone. Â It would be my "go to" every night out.
The live blues, hot & humid bar, the small crowd ...I walked in there a stranger and walked out feeling like I belong. Â What else can I say? Â The place has that elusive magical property of awesomeness.
This place was great...friendly service, good drinks and reasonable prices. We were SO glad it was right across the street from our hotel! It became our home away from home bar...we started the night there and ended the night there. Oh and sweet little patio for the smokers, which we are.
