There isn't much to say because there isn't anything of substance to note.  The place is large, which make the emptiness that much more evident.  Rarely packed, outdated in appearance, lacking in atmosphere and energy, this place makes one feel like they fell into the countryside and found the only establishment for miles.

Like the bar itself, the food is nothing to speak of.  Other than substantial portions per cost, the food holds no notable distinctions.  You could get the same meal at a slew of other places in the surrounding area and never know the difference.

Music wise, you'd be lucky to get excited about what you hear.  I have been here three times, bobbed my head, watched some people sway on the floor and observed generic cover bands butcher many good songs.  The cost ranges from $5-$10 when I have gone, which isn't horrible depending how much you enjoy the sound.

Sadly, there is nothing left to report on this establishment. As the modified quotes goes, "When you can't go to the place you want, go to the one that is near."

Well I am giving to stars for a couple of reasons.   One a little pricey for bar food type of establishment.  The second reason is I ordered a PBR and the Chicago Hotdog.  My bill came out to $10.00. I have never been to a bar that charged $3.00 a can for PBR.  Also the Chicago hotdog was small I ate it in 2 bites.  The atmosphere has a lot of potential to be a very happening place just a little over price for how much you get

The golden days of Cubby Bear North are over. The food is disgusting, drinks are pricey and mostly ice and the atmosphere is nothing like it used to be in years past. Watch out for the rude Asian girl working behind the bar. She gave my friend his drink in a glass with a jagged, cracked top edge. If I hadn't noticed he would have split his lip wide open. She then proceeded to pour the drink into another glass not knowing if broken glass may have fallen into the first drink and been swallowed when he took a sip. Needless to say her reaction to being asked for a new drink was less than professional. Won't be going back.

For a veggie "side" they gave me carrots and celery sticks! Our calamari was cold, chewy and mushy breading. This place is disgusting. Used to love it. Don't think I'll go back.

I have been here quite a few times, but mostly late nights for drinks and live music. The food I have had here was average except for the cookie dessert which is excellent.

The cover they charge is usually a little steep for the band that is actually playing, but with limited options in the 'burbs, you're kind of stuck. Most bands that play here are just generic cover bands. With how good the sound and stage are, I wish they would get better or more diverse bands. It is usually a good time.

There is a good sized dance floor that is usually full of care free people making fools of themselves (always entertaining). The drinks are pretty expensive unless you get a draft beer. In my experience their liqours taste watered down.

I would only recommend this place if you are looking for a cheesy cover band on a Saturday night.

Holy cow what a food poisoning, listeria, ecoli, salmonella waiting to happen outbreak this place is.

    1. the waiters were really nice so this isnt' a reflection on them.

    2. we were all set to order when we were told nearly 1/2 the things on the menu no longer existed. Um...print a new menu even if it's on a piece of printer paper.

    3. ordered chili--totally, totally unedible. We're talking 100% grease. Taco Bell meat has more realistic look than this stuff. Ground beef for pasta? Ditto. I mean, we're talking orange meat. Why/how is something orange? Cheese steak? Week old bread. I kid you not. Croutons are fresher. Cesar salad? Friend said it was tasteless. Was that really cesar dressing???? Ribs? My other friend was asked how do you want them cooked. Um..it's a question you don't ask for ribs. The meat was pink inside, cardboard, and this weird texture with no sauce.

We got so angry at the quality of food we asked management to foot the bill and they did so class act for management. But supposedly the cook got canned that day. Good, that food was a biohazard. I hate to see what the kitchen/fridge looked like.

I went there 6 years ago after work and it was bar food but nothing like this. I have NEVER experienced this in my life. So. So. SO bad.

Large space, divvy feel, decent specials.

Went here for some sunday night football and was very surprised how dead it was. Somewhere around 2nd quarter we find out its mexican karaoke night. not sure why you would do that shit on football sunday but ok. We had 4 more friends meet up and they call us to say they cant get in with out paying the all of a sudden $10 cover. pissed me off but whatever.

They had some good wings and decent nachos, their ribs looked bomb too. I will give this place another shot but not anytime soon.

Just left this place.  Gave it one star for the great bartender.  Otherwise the food was lousy.  Ordered the Brisquet and Rib Tips and they came out cold and over cooked and looked like they sat in the fridge open to the air cause they were dry and grey, tough and chewy.  I sent them back as they were inedible.  No wonder they were having a two for one BBQ special.  Had to get rid of the stuff.  I then ordered the greek burger and it was passable.  No real seasoning on it but was served hot but not Medium as I ordered it.  Was well done.  Won't be going back.

Overpriced Cubby Bear  in the burbs.  There's honestly 's no excuse for messing up a burger, especially if they charge $11 for it.

We went the other night to get our fix of 80's music played by a band called the "Breakfast Club" and if only it had been breakfast they might have had a shot a making decent food. Maybe.

Its a bar and you shouldn't expect more than bar food but these days you can expect bar food to actually be good. There are tons of bars with phenomenal food and that may specialize in a type of food like burgers or bbq.

So when the Cubby Bear north featured bbq on a whole page of the menu with all the usual types such as pulled pork, beef brisket and ribs I thought i would give it a try. I seek out bbq all over the country and love it when its good but...

This place's is not a bbq place. I don't believe they smoke anything, the food is old, the sauce is lousy, the beans were watery and flavorless, the cornbread was dry and tasteless.

I did eat the coleslaw and it was ok but probably pre-made and shipped in in a bag. To top it off the service was lousy when it was empty wow. How do you stay open...

Overpriced for the burbs. I get that it's the "Cubby Bear" but it's NORTH - we're not in the friggn city. Don't charge me $10 for a dime size vodka and redbull. Issue 1.

Issue 2:  I know I got here early - but why the hell were there Stevenson (aka - HIGH SCHOOL) kids in a dang bar!!! They didn't even card me and I look young (or at least I'd like to think I do). One would think think this would be bad for liabilities. Granted they left/were kicked out around 9...but still.

Issue 3: The waitress seemed to avoid my table (was with a larger group). Loved watching her go to other tables and then wait another 15+ mins before hesitating to come back to ask if we needed anything...then wait another 10+ mins for our drinks. Eventually just gave up and walked to the bar.

In the past, Cubby Bear North has seemed to have charged cover for no apparent reason when I've been there too. Or at least the band wouldn't be there yet...hmm weird.

Don't even bother asking - I won't ever be back.

Ok, first and foremost, this place is a bar, so it has bar food. Now, if you come here you gotta get the root beer (it is amazing, plus you can get it in a bucket of bottles which is cool and fun) and a CUBBY COOKIE. If you get anything out of this review, understand that the cubby cookie is the king of all deserts. This thing set the bar for all other cookie-based deserts I've eaten since my first cubby cookie. Also it is good to share, but if you're like me, you'll want one for yourself.
On another note, the food is acceptable. Honestly, I only come for the cubby cookie.

My family and I used to visit the Cubby several years ago and enjoyed the experience.  We recently went back and the service was terrible and so was the food.  When I expressed my dislike of the food, no one seemed to care and did not offer to bring me something different or take it off the bill.  As others have said, the place is also dirty and needs an overhaul of the interior. Needless to say, we will not be back.

This place is great.  Some of their drinks are a little on the pricey side, but the service and staff makes up for it!

P.S. their pasta is always a good choice!

This place is NASTY with a capital N. Their menus smelled like dirty dishes and feet and their water tasted like metal.  I took one look at the place and knew it wasn't going to be a good experience and wanted to leave but I was with a big group of out-of-towners and they wanted to do something "Chicagoish".  I thought I was being smart and just ordered the mozarella sticks (how can you mess up mozarella sticks??) but they were horrible.  Everyone else said their food was bad too.  Needless to say...we won't be back.

So far, friend had to move table just to get service before I arrived. Then it took 10 min to get my drink, had to beg someone to get the server back min later we finally got to order and drink our drinks, and it was not even crowded for an excuse.

This is usually an after work venue or when the budget was tight a company sponsored venue with finger foods.

The food is passable but you don't come here primarily for the food. There's pool tables, darts, bags and other things to keep large groups entertained and that's just upstairs.

Funniest thing though was when one of the managers was leaving and somehow (it was dark and raining outside) managed to drive through the field out the back and get totally bogged down. Literally they were in the middle of the field and WTF doesn't even come close to the barrage of comments that followed. She did get pulled out but not before everyone was rofl and lmao!

Customer service is obviously a foreign concept in this building. It starts with the management and proceeds down to the staff. Thanks for the food, how about some silverware. Care to stop back by and ask me how it was? Bet you didn't because you know it sucked.

Here is the only thing that will help this place.....a match.

If you can go anywhere else...go. I will never return nor recommend to any friends. Actually if you do go, then you won't be a friend of mine any longer as you show horrible taste and judgement.

This place is a disgrace to the bar industry. The cubs are better at baseball then this place is at being a bar. IE.. AWFUL!

Oh and to the Asian Bartender, you are the slowest most inconsiderate and incompetent bartender on the planet. You need to remember TIPS are not mandatory if your service sucks. If you waited on people you might actually make some tips.

Seriously.. if you go here, you deserve what you get. Read all these previous reviews! Nuff said. I only wish I could give NEGATIVE STARS!!!

NOTE TO SELF - never think that your experience MIGHT be slightly better than someone who previously yelped a place

NOTE TO OTHERS - if you need a place to eat or drink before/after a movie... there are better places to go to. Go to champs or red robin which is in the same plaza as the movie theater or across the street on Aptakisic to Kona Grill or Cheesecake

    On with the review -

I thought this place would be perfect to have some fun and drink after dinner at buca which is right down the street. Here is my journey...

(Called on a night when the Bulls were playing)
Phone rang about 10 times before someone answered. I told her I wanted to reserve some tables for a birthday and she told me to call back after the game was over because they're extremely busy. OK... fine... semi understandable since its a sports bar. Called about 45 minutes after the game was over and once again it took about 10+ rings before someone finally answered the phone. I tell the person that I would like to reserve some table for a birthday party and he tells me I need to call in the morning when the event coordinator is in. UMMM.... why didn't the girl tell me that the first time I called? OHHHH YYEEEAA they were "extremely busy"

I call the following morning and tell the girl that I would like to reserve some tables for a birthday party. She takes my number down and tells me that the event coordinator will call me back. The event coordinator calls me back and she's a witch. Her tone of voice sounded like she was annoyed that I was bringing 20 people and wanted to reserve some tables for a friday night. She was not helpful at all. **Note to the event coordinator -- I'm calling you to bring the facility YOU work at some business. Try not to be such a witch**

When we get there... surprise surprise... the tables are not ready. No one knows about the reservation. I talk to 2 workers to try to get some tables together so my group didn't need to stand around waiting. After about 15 minutes something finally gets done and it is only because a friend of a friend was friends with the manager working there. The cherry on the top... our server sucked. We didn't even bother with her and just went to the bar to get our drinks. Where's the bar? On the other side of the building and this place is pretty big.

    NEVER again

1 star - decent drink prices and fast bartenders
1 star - the live band (Arra) for putting an amazing performance but since they have nothing to do with Cubby Bear this star doesn't count

The place is huge, slightly overwhelming, and can get quite loud at peak times.

It' great if you're there to watch a game on a big screen (Go Hawks!)... otherwise I could take it or leave it.

Food isn't anything to write home about. If we're headed up this way to go to the IMAX, we might stop.

We came here for a bite to eat before seeing a movie.  Upon walking in we waited patiently to be seated.  It was rather quiet and there was no wait.  The host walked past us a couple of times talking to a server but never acknowledged us.  When he was finally ready to work again, he came back and seated us.

We ordered food and a drink straight away.  I had the grilled chicken sandwich with fries.  The chicken was moist and flavorful and the fries were crispy and hot.  Overall, the food was good - no complaints.

However, after our food was brought out, we never saw our server again.  We had to go ask for silverware.  Go to the bar ourselves for another beer and finally, chase down someone to get our check.  Really????

Management here needs to step up their game and do some customer service training!

Came here for a work party -- an unusual event in and of itself. Free food, free drinks, what's not to like?

I must say, first and foremost, that our waiter was *awesome*. There were about 20 of us and he was really on top of things, getting drink refills, remembering what folks were having, everyone's food came out at the same time -- he rocked it out.

That said the food I had was just average. I ordered the brisket sandwich with mac & cheese as my side. Awesome waiter dude brought me three different barbecue sauces to choose from, and I went with Carolina, knowing that I liked the mustardy-vinegary based sauce. It had a little kick to it, was a bit thicker than I was used to but quite tasty. The brisket itself was okay. The flavor was good, but it was a bit chewy and had some fatty bits. I'm sorry, Sweet Baby Ray's totally spoiled me. That said I did appreciate the buttered and toasted bun.

The mac & cheese was hot out of the oven, sufficiently cheesy, but really nothing special. Average. Good, but average.

We also shared an appetizer platter, and the cheese stick, quesadilla piece and chicken finger I had were all pretty standard.

The atmosphere is that of a big sports bar, with lots of TVs, and a stage for live music. The bathroom was freezing and reminded me of a high school's.

While I would certainly go back for work functions, this probably isn't a place I would seek out for dinner.

We have frequented the Cubby Bear North for the past ten years.  It's a good place to go for a casual dinner and drinks.  Food is solid, not incredible, but good.  They have a full menu and bar including salads and other pasta dishes in the event you aren't in the mood for a bar burger.  There are TV's everywhere, including one in each booth, and they have free WiFi if you want to use your time working or surfing the internet.

The place *is* loud, and during the times when the college kids are back from school, it can feel like a frat party.  When they're in school, though, there is always plenty of space so that you get a seat quickly, and there are lots of families that go here for a casual meal and a few cocktails.

If you sit in the bar area, service can be dicey as the bartender also waits tables.  If the bar gets busy, he/she has a hard time getting out from behind the bar to serve the tables.  If you're in the dining room, you can expect solid service regardless of how many folks are in the bar areas.

Overall, this is a solid place to go for a casual outing of after work get together.  I'll definitely keep going back.

Went in last night (Wednesday) apparently it is Salsa night with dance lessons-if needed. That worked out great for me because I LOVE dancing salsa. Like the bar and layout, we hung out at the bar on the 2nd floor. We were on the balcony and they have about 3-4 sets of bags/cornhole (whatever you like to call it) set up. I believe you have to ask the bartender for the bags to play.

From what the people I was with said, when they asked the bartender for a 2nd set of bags so we could start a 2nd game he was rude about it. As if we were inconveniencing him...I didn't experience this but hey if you don't want to do your job then don't keep the bags behind the bar.

    Taste: 3
    Value: 3
    Service: 2

I've been here twice - once last summer, once again today. Both times were for socializing after work. This time, we had free pizza, which was very mediocre. I liked the thin crispy crust, but that was about it; the toppings were scarce, and only half of it was eaten by the end of it.

The service is pretty bad. Today, the bartender was gone for at least a third of the time. Last time, the waiter took nearly 20 minutes to get our orders, and another half hour to deliver everything. It was absolutely awful how they organized our tables too.

This is my brother in laws favorite place. Not for the food, but they take "trade" $s and he has plenty from his business and the only reason we come here is when he chooses the family outing location.

We have probably eaten here about 4-5 times and each time the food just gets worse and worse. The only redeeming part of the meal is the "pizza cookie"; which is a small pan size choc chip cookie baked and topped with ice cream.
We have ordered steaks, fish, ribs, salads (not too bad actually), as well as kids meals and they are all mediocre at best. Each time we order something else in the hopes of finding a winner, but no luck.

Yes there are TV screens all over the place and a giant screen over the stage, but the food is just plain bad. I am not sure how this place stays in business, but most likely due to the fact that it is the largest location to host a party, after work event, etc and they make it work on volume.

If you want a few appetizers and beers while you watch a game, this place may work and the reason I gave it 2 stars.
If you want a nice dinner, then I suggest you look elsewhere.

Hmmm.....Not quite heaven, Lincolnshire but close

Nice sports bar!  Lots of tv's.  The saving grace of this place is they actually have tv's at every table!!!  How awesome is that during March Madness?

I had the Arizona wrap with fries.  Portions big, food good.

A couple of problems though.  And that's why they didn't get the full 5.

The bartender there (once again I write this in a review)  does not know how to make a black and tan.  (come on people, you are getting paid to do this)  If I wanted it the way I got it.  I would make it myself

And the second problem their credit card machine was down.  So we had to write all our information on paper -to be processed later.  In this day and age of identity theft that is a huge problem

I've always had a good time at Cubby Bear North, though that may have to do more with the people I'm with.

Nonetheless, if you're looking to catch a game and/or have a fun, and obnoxious time with a big group, then you can't go wrong here.  The bartenders are generally pretty attentive, and if you're good to them, they'll be good to you.

If you're looking for a place to watch sports or see your favorite cover band then the Cubby Bear is a great place to hang out with your friends.

There are some great drink specials throughout the week (such as $1 pints on TH).

The food is great...after you've been drinking; otherwise, I would avoid the food and eat before you come to the Cubby Bear. The bar staff and servers are generally friendly. In my most recent experiences, the door bouncers are humorous and on the ball, but in during-an-event bouncers are usually a bit rude on seemingly roided up looking for an excuse to snap at a patron.

Usually, my friends and I show up to see the likes of 16 Candles, Woogie or Wedding Banned. Cover is usually around $5-10, which isn't anything too out of the ordinary.

On the whole - for music and sports, this place is fun if you don't want to be at home. Just stay clear of choosing the Cubby Bear for a full meal and make sure you don't go pissing off a bouncer. ;)

Went on a Wednesday night, I believe, during the summer.
If you like bars filled with kids back from college, the prep and frat boys, then you'll love it.
If you want anything where you can sit and relax, not for you.
Left rather quickly when it became clear it wasn't for me.

I can't say I'm a fan of this place.  It's loud and the food is terrible.  They never really have anything except 80's covers, which is not really my thing.  On the plus side, the drinks aren't that expensive.

I don't recommend going here, unless you really like live bands playing bad music at volumes that are too loud.

I first discovered Cubby Bear when my company had a outing at the bar.  This place is a great size especially for bit parties.  The staff is attentive and on Thursdays you can get a pint for $2.  Who can beat that!!! I don't know the history of Cubby Bear nor do I care.  I just know that when I go I get good service, hot food and cheap drinks..

    Keep em coming!

    Back to three stars.

I have my feelings about the nightlife; but as a meeting place for happy hour with coworkers or entertaining business it's decent and worth a visit. In this area; there aren't many places that can hold a big group and offer as many conveniences, i.e. darts & games. There is so much space and many tables, that you can have a good time with your party and not feel as though you are crowded by the environment. Depending on what you order from their menu, food is better than typical bar food.

Fun little dive bar and the staff is pretty interesting.  I went here one night for bar food and as expected, the meal was very pub like ... wings, burgers, etc.  But it was cheap and there were enough tv's around to keep the sports fans in my party happy.  One funny note:  our waitress got arrested by the police mid-shift so there was a big service gap.

Went another night and our group had a good time!  Drinks were cheap and again, food was very adequate.  I had a little argument because our waitress kept padding our tab because she thought we were wasted.  And the manager did back the drinks off after a quick discussion.  However, drinks were only $2 and boy, did I feel silly afterwards HAHA!  In any case, I guess I fought for the principle and not the $$$.  Quaint little dance floor with a DJ and while the night life was far from hopping ... we had fun.  This is more reflective of the group than the place though.

When you party in the city with big name DJ's at the hottest clubs with the best atmospheres and fancies cocktails you have to usually endure a cover charge.

This place says no to all of the above!  well... except for that cover charge bit.  Its much easier to just take an average bar grill restaurant and throw a live band no one has ever heard of and charge everyone $6 at the door.

In all fairness the band ("woogie") was actually pretty good and we had a good time.  If they did away with the cover charge I would have given them an extra star.

You'll have an easier time finding a sober guy at a cubs game then finding a waiter/waitress at cubby bears.  Plus they're about as friendly as a drunk cubs fan after they lost the series.  That's the only reason I can figure they are called cubbys.

The only way you'll have any fun at this place is if you go with people as awesome as the people I went with.  well.. and beer helps.

Went here over the weekend to meet some friends. Love the building, it's a giant house with lots of space. The drinks are moderately priced. The booths have individual televisions. The menu was very large, with lots of delicious-looking options. However, our service was bad. Now, we went on Saturday night around 8pm. But the place was hardly crowded. Our server took forever to wait on us, and never came back after my food was delivered.

Seriously, never came back. I sat and talked with my friends for 2 hours, and didn't see her. The rest of our group ended up buying their drinks at the bar. So, in the end, I didn't see my server for TWO HOURS after I received my food (btw, was a cup of soup). So I left without paying. I know that's bad, but so was the service. I doubt our server was really missing my $3. I'd go back, and hopefully get a new server.

My company recently shot a corporate video here, and I was in awe over the space-- 30,000 square feet!

For the avid sports fan, Cubby Bear is pretty close to paradise. Fantastic bar food with an open kitchen (the staff is in at 8 am to prep), 80 screens including 2 high-def jumbo projection screens and drink/food specials aplenty. Also, I toured the biggest keg room I've ever seen!

I tried the Arizona Club wrap for lunch which really hit the spot.  Everyone in my party enjoyed their selections... I must say the burger, chopped salad and the salmon salad looked especially delicious! The service was spot-on and outright cheerful.

The manager, Robert, is a sweetheart. Making customers smile is his life and he's pretty damned good at it.

I was the organizer for a recent company off-site meeting.  Since the same meeting was held at the Cubby Bear last year and I didn't hear any complaints, I decided to have it there again.  This time around, there were a few bumps in the road, but nothing too horrible.

For starters, they did not have a projector or projection screen at the location.  However, I was told that they had a large screen tv that we could use for our Power Point presentation.  After fooling around with the cables, and having 3 different employees try to help us out, we weren't able to get the tv to work with the computer.  Luckily we had our own projector as a back-up, and we just projected on to a white wall.  They ended up giving us a discount for the inconvenience.

The food was pretty good, but chicken breast was VERY dry.  The Italian sausage was great.  Bar tender was really on top of things and very friendly.

At the end of the evening, the manager came around (someone I had not seen all night) and asked me to sign the bill.  While gratuity was included in our package, he tried to convince me to add more to the gratuity.  He kept explaining to me that the gratuity that was included in the package had to be split between 4 people (I think it was $400) and kept pushing for me to add more.  I didn't appreciate it his actions at all.

The event planner, Harlee, is wonderful to deal with - always on top of things and very sweet.  I'd probably go back, and probably have another off-site meeting there as well, but next time I'll be sure to ask that all the equipment is working properly, and probably order different food.

There aren't a lot of big bar options in Lake County so it is nice to have the Cubby Bear North as an option.

Early evening it is a dinner place with a TV on each table (good place to watch a game BTW).  The menu is large but stick to the appetizers, salads and sandwiches.  The quality of the steak, chicken and fish entrees just isn't worth $13 - $18.

The later it gets, the younger it gets and dining tables will be cleared to make room for a dance floor in front of the stage area.  They'll often have bands on Fridays & Saturdays, most of which aren't worth mentioning.  Occassionally they'll do something funny (like live-band karaoke) or bring in a national act (I saw a great show by the Violent Femmes here in 2006).

Upstairs has a good view of the stage, a few crowded pool tables and a narrow outdoor balcony.

They have a large parking lot but it fills up on weekend nights.  At the end of the night, keep an eye out for drunks.  And drunks, keep an eye out for the Lincolnshire police who keep a close eye on people leaving the CBN.
