    @Jebidiah: AMEN!

Ok, so a good friend wanted to meet there yesterday. I was kind of, "ummmm.." but thought I'd give it another shot. In a world full of change, there is comfort in consistency. Actually, they exceeded the lunacy of my previous experience! I was told (get this) that I "have to fill out the form" to place my order. Really? How about I not play waitress and just tell you what I want and then give you the money that I worked all week to earn? While we're on the subject of money, let's talk eleven bucks for a bagel with some veggies lumped on it and a chai. Oh - and the chai came out of a pre-mixed box, the kind that costs around five bucks for thirtysome servings. The big corporate conglomerate Starbucks charges the same or less and they are actually nice to me. Never had one of their baristas tell me what I HAVE to do.

To Dagel and Beli Management: I hope you spent my money wisely because it's the last penny of mine you'll ever see.

To Dagel and Beli Staff: Get over yourselves. I'm not impressed.

Great service in a neighborhood joint. They have a huge variety of homeade bagels, which can be toasted or steamed. The bagels are fresh and they have a variety of toppings- peanut butter, cream cheese, etc. They are attached to charmers coffee shop which I also highly reccomend.

I AM SICK AND TIRED OF CRAP SERVICE from moron hipster people who think they are the Greatest People In The Universe.  The prices here are too high, and the service is a joke.  Its not Subway, good, I'm glad, that's why I came here in the first place.  But why does it take so goddamn long for you to make me a coffee?  And why in the holy hell does it take 20 mins to make me a sandwhich?? If it was crowded I could see how that could happen, but the 3 times I stopped by (which was 3 time too many, over a 2 year period) it was the same everytime.  I have to move out of Rogers Park, too many moronic hipsters who think their crap doesn't stink.  Give me a break, losers.  Learn some efficency and some damn business sense.

    $5 for orange juice?

I got a bagel egg sandwich here.
and it was delicious but the absurd price of orange juice left a bad taste in my mouth.

I haven't had a Dagel here that I haven't liked.  The menu at times can be confusing to interpret, but I like the ordering method of circling what you want on a piece of paper so you don't have to try pronouncing it.  It's a simple, cutesy place.  It's not fast food so don't expect your sandwich to be ready in 2 min. or less, but for the most part I haven't waited any longer than 10 min.  And the happy hour deal 2 for 1 is great, I just get off at Jarvis after work, grab a couple sandwiches, walk home and have a cheap dinner with my husband.

    Good bagels and good coffee.

I've seen a mixed bag of reviews for the service and food types.  This doesn't strike me as a dash-in-dash-out kind of place...so if you're in a rush, probably not the best option.  However, it is an interesting enough space to spend some time chatting with an old friend, reading, studying, etc.

My sandwich was delicious, and my tea was even better.  I dig fresh tea, and they made it fantastically.

Generally, I'm fully behind all things cutey-patootey.  You want to switch up letters on your menu to make the standard sandwiches sound a bit more zesty?  Do it to it.  Rock out with your socks out.

However... you have to have the goods to back it up.  The Dagel and Beli (errr, Bagel and Deli) falls a little short.

I was there picking up sandwiches for a friend and I.  My bagel was wee and tasted more rye than pumpernickel.  Truly nothing special.  I feel if you are going to put the word "bagel" (or "dagel" as the case may be) in your name, your bagels should be top-notch.

More annoying than my runty bagel was the speed of sandwich-construction.  I got my sandwich first (as it was merely a PB&J), but I had to wait for my friend's turkey sandwich.  They steamed the bagel, added the turkey, horseradish, and red onions.  Then, with the end in sight (add the lettuce! wrap it up! hand it to me!), sandwich-maker-lady starts a conversation with some guy who'd just walked in about a show they both attended the previous evening.  Some bar in Pilsen, you say?  Neat.  And it sucked?  That's too bad.  Oh wait, I don't really care.  I just want my lunch.

All in all, a Louch Tacking.

My parents recently visited and ate here every single morning. They loved it and brought me back a bagel one day I found pretty tasty. I've since been to visit several times with mixed reviews. I enjoy supporting local business as much as the next person but the cost here seems a little high for the finished product, I mean come on, give me a little more sandwich for my hard earned money. I'm 6'3" 220 lbs and one little bagel sandwich won't cut it for me, I need at least 2 to fill the gap in between my ribs. That said, the 2 for 1 bagels later in the day work pretty well for me.
The staff here also leaves a little to be desired. No one working here seems to be enjoying their day except for that one girl who never stops smiling. Thank you whatever your name is, stay on the happy train. Don't start hanging out with miss "mad at my dad" who rolls her eyes every time a customer goes outside to experience the nice day and you have to walk 10 feet to the door to deliver their sandwich,  which happens alot since the interior isn't large(but cozy) and waiting 15 minutes for a bagel seems to pass faster on a beautiful day.
I'll drive the extra 20 minutes to New York Bagel on Toughy even though I live within walking distance if I want a delicious, nice sized bagel with a smile.

Dagel and Beli is getting too big for its britches!  I recently stopped back after taking a break for a few months, and discovered that my favorite bagel sandwich, the Letterbox (lox, cream cheese) was NINE DOLLARS.
Wha?  How can they possibly justify that price?  Without realizing the prices had gone up substantially, I had already promised my wife that I'd bring one home for her. . .I went ahead and ponied up for it, grudgingly, and then requested that they add cucumbers to it.  Got home, opened the sandwich, and no cucumbers. I'd be really interested to find out what is going on that they need to charge nine bucks for the Letterbox.  I definitely won't be ordering that again, if I ever come back.

The bagel sandwiches here are good, they steam them which makes them soft and gooey. However, note that they often run out of certain bagels on the weekend rather quickly so keep that in mind. They have quite a selection of different sandwich options which is nice. However they seem to make a mistake on the orders every now and then, even though you write out exactly what you want on a slip and hand it to the employee. Overall Im just glad that a place like this exists in Rogers Park/Jarvis Stop. The area needs it.

In the interest of full disclosure, I used to live around the corner from Bagel & Deli in Oxford, Ohio for three years, and miss it terribly.  So when I moved into Rogers Park and heard about Dagel and Beli, I knew I had to check it out.  Jonesing for B&D on a sunny Saturday morning, I hit the Red Line in search of the greasy breakfast I miss so much.  Dagel and Beli delivered on the sandwich, though the atmosphere didn't rival the Oxford shop's at all.  Sitting outside with an egg, ham, bacon and cheese sandwich was only made better with a cup of what must be the freshest orange juice I've ever had...I'm almost certain this juice was still oranges when I walked in the door.  I'll definitely be back to build my own sandwich, to give them a shot at replicating my Oxford-favorite Roast Beef, Egg, Bacon,Salt & Pepper on Plain.

Dagel and Beli is a great place to go if you want the simplicity of a certain bagel sandwich but the complexity of pronouncing everything the right way.  Letters are switched around on their sandwiches titles to make everything fun to say.  Last night I enjoyed a turkey, provolone and dill pickle sandwich called the Perky Tickle.  So, if you want something easy to say, order their Self-Esteem sandwich where you can pick any ingredient to put on any kind of bagel you choose.

When it is a little busy, the food might take a little longer to get to you...but when it does, it's delicious.  All of their ingredients always taste fresh and they steam their bagels so everything is just so soft and sloppy.  It's great.

The best time to go to D&B is between the hours of 6pm-8pm.  That is when they have their happy hour and you can get any of their sandwiches 2 for 1.  You can even pick 2 separate sandwiches.  Eat one for dinner, and save the other for breakfast.

Let me start by saying it's been awhile since I've been here. I too was really excited when this place opened up. The neighborhood needs more places where you can pop in and get something good- fast. That being said, this is not quite that place. The food tastes good enough, but the wait time is really too long. Also, like others have said it's really a bit over priced for what you get. The plus side is you can go to Poitin Stil and have a few beers while they make your sandwich.

I don't go here as often as I should.  The food is good and not too expensive.  This place is great in the spring/summer/early fall, because you can sit outside at Charmers, order coffee and a sandwich and watch the local hippies walk their dogs.
The sandwiches are creative and tasty.  The bagels are steamed and can get a little soggy, but I like my food messy, so it's ok!

I am glad this place is in this neighborhood because it's important to Rogers Park to try and improve itself, and Dagel and Beli helps.

I agree with the size and the sogginess of the bagels in terms of sandwiches, but they are still delicious. Good bagels are hard to do and Dagel and Beli gives it a good go.

I like the inside/decor/etc. and the staff is helpful and friendly. The menu hurts my brain but is a clever shtick.

Plus, the serve Metropolis coffee and tea, whoo! I love all things Metropolis and they have different teas than your standard Earl Grey or chamomile.

Service is a bit slow, yes, but I also partake in working at a small, independent business venture, and I am a firm believer in quality over speed.

I would recommend this place, and say yes to take-out.

I adore the atmosphere and "spoonerisms" in the menu. I find the food delicious, but small proportioned (the bagels ARE INDEED a little small to have a sandwich on), and its a little pricey for such a small bagel.  Plus, I've had some service issues in terms of wait time.

When I'm looking to splurge a little I head over there.

Favorites: The Letter Box (Better Lox) on a Salt Bagel.

We were so happy when Dagel and Beli finally opened around the corner from us.  Just a quick jaunt down the street for lunch!  Finally!

The sandwiches are good, the menu is very creative, and the staff is always helpful.  There's just something about a steamed bagel that makes my mouth water.

I also appreciate the water bowl set out for dogs.  :)

Very tasty bagels that can be ordered from Charmers Cafe. Love to sit in the coffee shop with their food and it's a big incentive to go to Charmers, knowing I can get great food at a reasonable price as well (instead of usual coffee shop fare).

I live right around the corner from this shop, so I'm very glad that they're in the area.  The sandwiches are really good, and the toppings that you get on them are numerous, and all fresh and great tasting.

That said, there are a couple things that could really improve this place, and make me a regular customer.
    1.  Sides -  I know they have a cole slaw, but they really don't have a good side dish, like a good pasta salad or potato salad.  Add this, and you've got my business once a week.
    2.  Bigger bagels - I like the sandwiches, but I still feel hungry after I leave after a bagel sandwich and bag of chips.  A bigger bagel would bring me in there more as well.

I was so excited when I came across Dagel and Beli while I was on a bike ride.  It's next door to Charmer's Cafe, which, apparently is owned by the same people.  I haven't been to Charmer's (yet), but I've been to Dagel and Beli on several occasions.

I only have one negative thing to say about Dagel and Beli - their bagels are awesome, but they don't have a special price for bulk bagel purchases, so you end up spending $1 per bagel if you want a 1/2 dozen or a dozen bagels.

Not that it isn't worth it - the bagels are really good, and I'm kind of a picky bagel consumer - none of that grocery store crap :).  You can get all sorts of sandwiches or stick with a traditional shmear.

It's a good local place that I plan to go back to.

I was more excited about this place pre-bagel sandwich than post-bagel sandwich.  Each sandwich is steamed---making them soggy, in my opinion, and ruining the freshness of the ingredients.  The poppy seed bagel is bland-tasting and, in sandwich form, wet on top but dry in the middle.

The deli meat is very good, however, and I would consider buying it on its own.  I would also consider buying the bagels and toasting them at home.

Service is also slow---last time it took over 15 minutes to get my sandwiches to go, whereas, at Beans & Bagels, wait time is between 5 & 10 minutes. Dagel Beli serves food to Charmer's Caf patrons (includes soups and salads), which might account for the wait.

While the spoonerism thing is kind of cool at first, it starts to give you a headache if you stay inside looking at the menu too long.

I came here mid-morning after a a hard night of drinking and as a result suffering from a deep and bone grinding hangover.  I was wandering around Rogers Park aimlessly looking for something that might spark my interest.  Dagel and Beli is located on a cool little corner compared to the rest of the neighborhood.  I went in and searched for some food that might  fill my weary body.

I couldn't make sense of the menu, not realizing the Spooneristic gimmick I blamed my headache and just asked for something with hummus.  I refused  to look at that piece of shit menu a second longer.

The sandwich was great, really great.  I think it was called the Sick Chi or something.  This place would totally get five stars if i didn't have to sit though some nasty, nasty femfolk folk while waiting.

Like the name, everything in here is done as a Spoonerism (which means switching the first letters of two words).  The menu will make your brain hurt, but they do offer a "translated, self-esteem" version in case you have trouble with "Soppy Peed" bagels with "Strapami".  My favorite on the menu was the "Fart Smella" (which I didn't try).

Specialty sandwiches are good (like the Royola Leuben), and they have some interesting side dishes as well.  Not much room to sit; works better for take-out.

It's attached to Charmers Cafe next door, also part of the improvements on Jarvis Square.
