Bacon-mari appetizer was on special for $5.99; bacon wrapped around mochi rice cake and deep fried with hot sauce for dipping.  Turned put to be better than expected.  The super spicy chicken is not a joke; coming or going.  The only way to get rice is to order the doshirak rice box, now $1.99, but still decent.  I'd say the flavored soju isn't watered down, it just has no soju. Drank 2 bottles by myself and barely had a buzz.  Still had a good time.  The cute Korean server was beyond adorable.

This place is awesome, very low key and reasonably priced. The soju mixed with yogurt is delicious; order them separately and combine them yourself to determine your own comfort level. Spicy food and soju is the best combination! I love their spicy pork.

First impression: This place is completely dead at 8:00pm on a weeknight. I imagine it gets bumpin' bumpin' as the evening wears on. All my Korean friends say DSS is the <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fbomb.com&s=bb4f996415a9c2f21137e27cfb68f439a48cec2652b53e9b50dd7e766dbe177e" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://bomb.com</a>...

Second impression: Rice Box for a dollar?? Whaaaaa where was this when I was in college. Rice + Egg + Kimchi. Um hello, complete meal that better for you AND cheaper than drive thru fast food. Sign me up!

We came for the Tapoki...which I still don't exactly know what it is...but I *think* it's stir fried rice cake in a sweet spicy sauce and there are infinite variety of this. There were noodles, onions, hardboiled egg, some bean curd all swimming in a red sauce. Sweet...

I like cheap eats on a weekday. Thanks much!

Cool place to hang out and grab a couple of bites and drinks.  People here are nice, and the decor is somewhat "decorative."  People write all over these walls, and it adds character to this establishment.  We had the following:

    - Apple Soju - so light and delicious, I probably can drink the whole thing alone

    - Doshirak - Old fashion rice - rice, fried egg and kimchee, and SHAKE, SHAKE, SHAKE!  So simple, but so good, and its only a buck!

    - Bossam - Steam pork with veggies - these were also simple, but good!  Wrap your pork and veggies in a lettuce wrap, and you got yourself a winner!

    - Tuckpocky - Stir fried rice cake with veggie and fish cake - so spicy, but so good!  It's a lot.. so make sure you have enough people to finish this!

    I would come here again!

Whenever I want to get some Korean food with a group of people, I come here. When you walk in and a majority of the customers/staff are straight up Korean, you know it's gotta be good.

I usually order the Paddak (boneless fried chicken with green onion), some kind of Tuckpocky (rice cake and other goods in a spicy red paste), and the lunch boxes (only $1 each and come with rice, a fried egg, and kimchi). Those 3 three things are usually my go to for ordering and never fail to disappoint.

Each dish is a little pricey but the portions are HUGE. I would say the Paddak and Tuckpocky alone could feed a table of four nicely. They have a bar so you can also get alcohol and soju to go with your meal.

They're open late, offer great food, and have a unique atmosphere. When you first arrive, it looks like it'd be the shadiest place to walk into, but once you go inside it's a whole different world.

A group of us came here after karaoke. We were wasted and this was perfect drunk food for us! We each got a rice box with an egg and kimchee. IT WAS ONE DOLLAR!!!! we all shared dukbokki, some chicken dish that had rice cakes in it, and kimchee pancake. Dukboki is a must try here!!!! even if you don't like spicy food. This will change your mind. It was so good!!! don't let the sauce go to waste! pour it all over your rice, it's still good! I'm drooling just thinking about it! The chicken and ricecakes we ordered was good and the portion was out of control!!! it was so bigggg. It fed six of us and two of us got to take some home for lunch the next day. This is the best affordable drunk korean food!!! I would definitely come back!!!

One dollar for a metal box with white rice, a fried egg, and kimchee. ONE DOLLAR! That alone should be enough information to make anyone go to DanSungSa to check it out. The dollar rice side is great, but their other food is fantastic. We got a kimchee pancake (feeds about 4-6 as an app), the spicy chicken entree ($22.99 and could feed 6 as an entree), and the dukpocky (around $13, feeds about 4-6 as an app or side). Their menu is pretty small though the portions are giant, and the food comes out fast.

I originally wanted to come here for their chicken daktoritang, because well, most korean places in dallas don't seem to offer it on their menu, and it's my favorite korean dish, so finding even one place in DFW that serves it is a must go for me. It's kind of a spicy chunky soup dish though, so it's not really apt for sharing. Thus, I will be back for you daktoritang! If the rest of the food is any indication, it should be legit.

Can't comment on the alcohol potency. Go for the food and the cool dining room!

Cool Korean snack bar.  I always load up on $1 rice boxes that come with kimchi and a fried egg.  Then I get some yogurt soju to wash it all down.  The atmosphere here is great inside, wooden booths with crazy and cute graffiti I don't understand.  Most of the food portions are huge, maybe for 3 - 4 people.  I like to come here before or after I hit up Family Karaoke.  I love places that make you feel like you're not home anymore: K-pop music playing in the background, unconventional style on the inside.  I like to bring my friends here that have never tried it.  Everyone I've brought here is hesitant about it once we pull up because they think it's seedy on the outside (it's also always at night when I go).  Then when they enter they think it's the coolest thing ever!  Also, they don't believe me that the water is barley water!  So if you are second guessing the water, it is NOT dirty.

Mmmm good. The $1 for rice, kimchi, fried egg in a metal tray is awesome. Soju and chicken here for the win.

I've been here a couple of times, and it's pretty cool. I can imagine this is what a typical hole in the wall bar would look like in Korea. Food is cheapish for such big portions. Going with a group of at least 4 people should be standard unless the two of you don't mind sharing a huge plate of food because ANY dish here is huge. It's as if each entree is portioned for a 300 lb beast.

I love barley water. Their barley water is so refreshing. This is the same stuff Tom Cruise would feed Suri per Scientology orders. I have no idea why I know this, but remember reading that on Dlisted. Anyway. All the yelp reviewers keep on raving about the yogurt soju, but I'm all about the barley. Moving on...we ordered the:

Boodae chigye - the hot pot soup of assorted canned meats and veggies. We added ramen to it. It was just ok. Remember, this is cheap comfort food for drunk Koreans. I do not drink to get drunk and am not Korean, so this stuff is just aight with me. I bet if I was drunk, this stuff woulda been really good.

Tuckpocky - now this stuff is delicious. I love that red sauce Korean food is famous for. Fish cake and rice cake is soooo yummy. Damn.

Fried chicken with special BBQ sauce - this chicken must be genetically modified cause it was like eating XXXL buffalo wings. We should have ordered the plain fried chicken cuz the chicken part was great, but the bbq sauce was weird and could have done without.

It's a pretty good chill spot and they have delicious chicken. I call it yong name but it's only cause I can't pronounce it. Lol, anyways, vibe is very chill and they have nice sweet yogurt soju.  Location is alright but the place is pretty small for my liking. Still, very good place to hang, eat, and drink out :) will come again!

We went here with a group of three, we ordered three meals and some beer, food was good with reasonable price, service was okay, music was too loud, the place was too dark and really old. The worse thing was the men restroom was supper dirty...(I actually lost my appetite after going to the restroom).

Dan Sung Sa deserves 5 stars for 3 reasons.
    1. Great cultural atmosphere. Korean came first and English was a close second. A great blend of getting local tasty food just by asking the bartender.
    2. Great food.  Our bartender recommended the spiciest item per my request (Super spicy chicken). It was a product that lived up to its name. Washed it all down with a cold brew and I was ready to observe our national pastime event, people watching.
    3. Happy vibes. With everyone having their fill of late night grub it was time to dance it off! The DJ was playing various music and continuously play PSY's gangnam style to pump the crowd all night.
4....just for good measure. Did I mention all this occurred after 1am? Fresh food that had enough soul to transform a drunken stupor to an endorphin/dopamine nightcap. I left Dan Sung with a clear head and boastful chest. Seeing a great local place packed to the max and gazing down the street to see Yak in The Box and Macdo a desolate wasteland. Local flair-1, chains-0

Ask yourself: Do I want delicious Korean food and soju at 1 am on a Sunday night, but don't care at all if the service is not good? Then this should be where you come. That's what we did this past Sunday after not being ready to call it a night at 10 pm. Honestly there aren't many places to go eat and drink on a Sunday night so I'm really glad this place exists. Sure it's kind of in a strip mall off the I35, but inside you can barely tell. I always feel like I've stepped into someone's homemade underground bunker when I step in here. The whole place is super dark, TVs blaring Kpop (Gangnam Style even came on woo!), and each booth, constructed out of plywood, is walled off as it's own little treehouse. Service is not so great, (i.e. it takes awhile before they come around) but that's not a huge deal because at least I didn't feel rushed to be out of there. I wonder if it has to do with not speaking Korean? The only words I know of Korean are "delicious", "thank you" "grandma/grandpa" and "hey you over here!". The food is so good. Get the bonchon Korean fried chicken or the bulgolgi 'tuckpocky' (topokki: rice cakes). The portions are huge so don't be turned off by the price (~$15-20). One dish is enough for 3 people. The ramen here at $4.99 was pretty good too. I think they just use store bought ramen packet but somehow make it pretty magical. This night, we got the yogurt soju which had a lot of foam. It should taste just like the probiotic Yakult yogurt drinks. I probably wouldn't get it again because there didn't seem to be much alcohol content in it though. At the end of the night, we asked for the rest of our tuckpocky to be boxed up, but I think a misunderstanding in language led them to throw it away! This is the worst ending to any story.

The thing here, is you don't go for the food.  Its really not that great.  But the reason I keep coming here time and time again.  Its a true dive bar and its asian.  I have not really seen another dive bar around dallas with the authentic dive bar flair you would find in korea.  This place has got it.

A bottle of soju runs you 15 dollars here or 15 dollars for a bottle of korean rice wine (aka sake)

I took a huge group of 50 people here they weren't really equipped to deal with it.  But I doubt any place in Dallas can handle 50 people showing up at once.  Service was friendly as always.  And I had a great time.  Come here for the ambiance to just forget that you're in the US altogether.

Personally I love this place. Little bit divey looking, esp from the outside so if you are looking for upscale this might not be your spot. But if you want some good spicy Korean food and little Chamisul to wash it down, take the Dan Sung Sa plunge.

I am always a little confused when it comes to Korean food and the places I tend to go cater mostly to koreans so their English is never great. So what ends up happening is I order sort of randomly. At  Dan Sung Sa I am never disappointed. The food is always extremely flavorful and spicy. The side items they wheel out on the cart are always fun and those alone would be enough for a meal but don't mack too hard on those as the entrees tend to be pretty large. I try to power down as much as possible as, at least to me, Korean food doesn't taste quite as good the next day.

In reading the reviews I think I'm in the minority in that  I'm not going there late to fill up after a night of drinking. I just go for a meal in the early evening. It's always a little amusing, as I am not a korean, when I walk in they tend to give me that look like I must be lost. Korean food is def a little different than most of the other Asian foods and at least in Dallas, I don't think it has quite caught on with non Koreans yet. Too bad, it's a great meal!

It was cold and rainy the night I fatefully walked into Dan Sung Sa. I had only been in Texas for about 2 weeks after my move from Phoenix, AZ...and was seeking an adventure...and had a mad craving for Korean food. So, I referred to my handy-dandy Yelp friend and looked for a restaurant that was open that late at night. It was probably 11pm by the time I left.

I walked into the restaurant and felt like I had been transformed to Korea. There were K-pop music videos on the screens everywhere and music was blasting from all different angles of the restaurant.

I sat down at the bar and the bartendedr (and I guess one of the owners of the restaurant) quickly came to my service. He then suggested a dish for me. The "tuck-pocky". It was delicious! Although it was a strange dish and something I had never tried before, it was a good experience.

It was also the night I met my first new friend in Texas. (Alex Kang) She's a great waitress there, so make sure you get her if you're ever in!

The soju is overpriced, sure...watered down, yes...
But it is open late until the wee hours and this is the best Korean bar/dive you'll ever spend time in. It's that cool dirty uncle you have. The one that spends too much time drinking and talking about old war stories. The seats and booths are wooden, old, and some privately enclosed. All over there is little personal graffiti everywhere marked and craved into the seats. Kpop is playing in the background and Koreans are talking loudly. :)

I remember last year I came here twice and all my friends were talking about their bad break ups and how we are going to resolve all our problems. I mean...it got deep. See? Ghetto and classy at the same time.

Get the apple soju or makgeolli. :o)

Per the recommendation of Peter "The Skeeter" H. I decided to check them out.  For whatever reason I didn't know there was a large enough population of Korean peeps in these parts that would be able to sustain a Korean bar of the bangin' proportions this place indicated to us.  It was a reminder of what we used to have back in Chicago more than a decade or so ago.  Those times are long gone and replaced with business owners willing to replace K staff with underpaid staff that can't cook for shit.

I came for good bar food and that's what we got.  Tastes that sent my mind thinking of awesome times had at Korean bars back in Chicago so many years ago now. That was when the flavors were authentic and before they sold out to doing things a cheaper way.

We had the spicy thukkbokki with ramen and I really wanted a dish like sam kyub sal kim chi bokkum, instead their waiter suggested another spicy, pork belly type dish.  The flavors were on point, spicy at the right level and we went to town on that meal.  For the sake of old memories I added in a pitcher of yogurt soju.  I'd forgotten the flavor of Soju since it's a liquor I only drink out of sentiment now.  When drinking the pitcher I thought.. wow, this thing is so light.  Meaning, where is the freaking booze?  The thing about Soju is, the buzz catches up to you slowly and much later.  Usually around the time you make it out to a karaoke bar.  My DD came in handy.

The bar was not busy on the night we checked them out.  Mid week night.  Service stunk as it usually does at any  Korean bar with awesome food.  No back and forth with any staff, just cold responses like a bowl of naengmyeon.  Dishes are costly like most K bars tend to be these days.  I didn't mind it so much though, only because the food did it for me.  The food brought back fond memories and I dug the interior of the bar, I am rating them four stars for this.  The decor is quite common in themed bars like this back in Korea.

If I were local, I'd hit this place up weekly.  Maybe carve my name into a booth in Hangul just because I can and serenade some yeppun yujahs and see where the night goes.

Fun little bar with a good selection of cocktails and great food.  Nothing better than bossam to soak up all that alcohol.

If you have yellow fever and wanna check out hot Asian girls, this is the place.  And there's Korean music videos on a big screen.

I wasn't in a good mood and my boyfriend took me here saying they're known for their tteokbokkie. Upon arrival we were seated in a booth area. The place is very casual and laid back. The place has people's writings all over. Much like boiling crab.

We ordered the tteokbokkie and gimmari along with rice and and egg with kimchi. Downside is I couldn't request my egg to be sunny side up, so it was fried pretty well done. The tteokbokkie and gimmari was very good and I was pretty full. We also got the yogurt soju. It was DELICIOUS. I have to admit though, it was pretty watered down... either that or barely any soju. Maybe that's why it was soooo good :P I was more full than buzzed after drinking it. I was pleased though and it was an experience with the bf that I will remember. I'd definitely recommend this place.

One of the better Korean establishments in Dallas for sure. Whenever I stop by, I always order a bottle of fresh and 2 dollar lunch boxes. It's not cos I'm cheap (maybe a little) but the lunch box is delicious and just what I need to chase the soj. The interior is a typical korean style bar - wooden everything, cheap wallpaper graffitied out by everyone and their grandmamas. Overall, I give this place a solid 3.7569 stars.

    Fin.

I've been here 3 times and I like this place because of the semi private booths.  I have not eaten here, but I do like their yogurt soju even if it's watered down :)  But recently, I took a few shots at the bar...specificially the monkey brain.  That one was DELICIOUS!  It really looks like a mini brain! Or maybe I was just slightly tipsy...

It's fun to read what people have written on the walls.  But I do agree with some previous reviewers - go here with a Korean person in the group or someone who can speak Korean.  They do speak English, but having a Korean person in the group just makes things go so much more smoothly.  Looking forward to my next visit.

Knowing that this is a "korean bar" it's not going to be super clean and "quiet".  There's beer spilled all over the floor and food particles stuck everywhere - best make sure they wipe down the tables AND chairs before you sit down and put your elbow/hands on the table.  And when I say "quiet", well DUH of course a "bar" isn't going to be quiet...but the loudness you get from this place is a different kind of loud...you hear people yelling and screaming and slamming the table - not because they're arguing or anything, but that's just the way they talk when they're overly excited or when something's super funny.  It's a bit too much for me - especially when I come out hearing a little ringing in my ear...that's when you know it was TOO loud!

I do like the bar food and the selection of beer and soju - the flavored soju is the best (yogurt soju) and sometimes they have beer bucket specials.  It's a good hangout for a group of friends who wanna drink and have a good time, but beware that their booths are kind of small so having a big group of 8 or more will be kind of difficult to fit everyone.

Good food. I really liked the box they give you with rice, kimchi and fried egg. The kimchi here is the best kimchi I've ever had and I've been to a lot of Korean restaurants. This seems like the place to go to after a night of clubbing or something. Service wasn't great. After you get your food you pretty much never see your waiter/waitress again... plus I thought I lost a few years of my life from all the secondhand smoke.

I wouldn't go here without a Korean person in the group.

How do I write a review about this place? So much of what you will think after eating here will depend on your expectations before going in.

Dan Sung Sa is a bar, not a restaurant per se... but in the same way that an Irish Pub or a Japanese Izakaya is a bar. You can surely get liquor here, but they also have lots of food. If you go here thinking of the place as a bar that happens to have good stuff to eat, you would probably have a higher opinion of it.

For a restaurant the place is dark and cramped. The staff is friendly but the service is not great (particularly when they are busy) and it's a little questionable on the hygiene. Every time I enter the men's bathroom I have to resist the urge to run to an emergency room for a tetanus shot. This alone would be enough to make most people decide to eat somewhere else, but if they did they would be missing out on the food.

I can't pronounce half of what I have eaten at Dan Sung Sa, but it has all been really good. If I some day die of food poising from eating here, know that I went down happy. I am as FAR from an expert on Korean food as you can get -- I've never even been to Korea -- but I am told by those that should know that the food is authentic if that matters to you.

Individual plates might be considered pricey (I think I pay $14 for Bulgolgi?) but the serving sizes are large so I consider it very reasonably priced. There is also the frequently mentioned bento box that costs around $1, so there are cheap options. A NOTE: The bento boxes are NOT the same as you get if you order bento boxes from a Japanese place. Same name; completely different thing. These are small metal boxes with some kimchi, rice, and a fried egg -- still very good.

My favorites are the Bulgolgi and the Spicy Lemon Chicken. As a friendly warning, anything on the menu labeled 'spicy' means SPICY. I think I had chemical burns on my lips the last time I ordered the chicken, but they were smiling chemically burned lips. The Topokki and the fried chicken are good too.

This place looks sketchy and uninviting from the outside, but brave it -- even if you're a group of white kids like we were.  The inside is a cozy, dimly lit maze of private "boxes" that are like little private rooms/booths.  I'd say the ideal group size here is a 4-person group due to the size of most of the booths, but they probably have bigger booths that I didn't see.  Again, it's kind of a maze, with the bar easily located in the center in case your waiter isn't attentive.

Ours was, however, and he even managed not to look surprised when a bunch of white kids ordered yogurt soju.  (IMPORTANT: If you want to mix it yourself and not have it watered down by the bartender, tell the waiter you want "a bottle of soju and a pack of yogurt.")  I know this sounds disgusting, but you MUST try it.  We came here solely for this drink.  They'll give you a bottle of soju (Korean sweet potato liquor that tastes sorta like vodka but goes down easier) and a pack of these little liquid yogurt things.  Get everyone a shot glass, and fill each shot with 2/3 soju and 1/3 yogurt.  It's the tastiest, easiest shot you've ever had.  We could have done these all night.

Unfortunately, we had a room reservation at Family Karaoke (one block south), so we had to scoot.  But this place is totally chill, makes you feel like you're in a different country (Korea, maybe, just a guess), and is a great way to experience an awesome new shot/drink.  They also have a regular bar menu (appletinis, anyone?) if you're not feeling so adventurous.  Prices are pretty reasonable (I think the appletini was $7).

I like this restaurant for a number of reasons, and it's always good after late night at the club or karaoke.Still, I wish they could be more clear of their closing time because sometimes it's as early as 2:30, and somtimes as late as 4AM.Number of recommendations if you are on a low budget, or you just want something filling and good:

#1 BENTO BOX! Cheap and delicous, yumm. I love Korean rice (It's like Japanese rice, smaller and a little more stuck together) and the Bento Box comes with an egg cooked over easy, some kimchi, and rice.
I remember it used to come with takuan and some dried fish, but I'm guessing to cut cost they eliminated those two. After all, it's only one dollar.

#2 Korean Omelets! They are dashi-maki (at least that's the only term I know, and that's in Japanese) and it's so delicous! Dip it in mayo and ketchup with a side of cabbage mixed together, you have flavor explosion in your mouth. Like literally.

#3 Soju~! It's good in portion and price, and it's mixed well so it tastes like juice. I know they serve it elsewhere but convenience is a issue too. Plus, it's good with your food!

But for four star food, it definitely lacks in service. They come by once during your meal, and that's the time when they are serving you your entree. They need to hire more servers or have one that's more attentive. So three and a half for that.

    I'll still be back though!

This review is strictly for the fried gimmari.  I had been craving this since the last time I had it back in October, so when I drove through Dallas a couple weeks ago, I told my friend that no matter what, we had to go here so I can get my gimmari fix.

Others on here have described what it is, so I'm just going to tell you it's worth trying; it's almost good enough to make you forget about all the cigarette smoke in the air.

We were there early and it wasn't very crowded so I'd recommend going a bit later when it's hopping. We called it a Korean version of Italian Inn in Fort Worth - wooden booths that you can write on. Fun.

Definitely authentic fare. We were given recommendation to eat here otherwise wouldn't have ever stopped. But once you find it, it's worth going in. Not sure what the carafe of green tea was that they brought to the table but we didn't like it. I'm sure it's our problem though.

Definitely not expensive, but not really cheap either.

I visited DSS a few times last week and I was surprised with the new changes that they've been going through. The management of the whole strip where DSS is located has been giving the exterior a makeover and  DSS has kinda moved some stuff around inside and they now have a bar where you can actually sit down at instead of at the tables. It's great if you're drinking alone or if you've got a drinking buddy.

They've got some new drinks on the menu that are Makgeolli (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FMakgeolli&s=b13f1f88491e1b2bdd88f47abfbbdb6993e42f7ecee85321f7bef32e4805b770" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://en.wikipedia.org/…</a>) based. I've had makgeolli straight up and it's not the most flavorful beverage, but their Strawberry Makgeolli drink is pretty delicious. They use real strawberries to make the drink since you have to stir up the pitcher every few times when you pour yourself a glass. For an added bit of fun, after you finish your cup of Strawberry Makgeolli you can try to see if the clumped up strawberry seeds at the bottom of the cup represent anything, kinda like reading tea leaves!

I've also tried their lemon and yogurt Soju. The lemon I'm pretty used to, but their yogurt soju is pretty damned good. All of their mixed drinks are really froo froo tasty, but the alky will hit you after several drinks, beware.

Great food - especially the dalk dong chib (grilled chicken gizzard, omg so delicious).

OK drinks - like all of the korean bars around here they water down any kind of mix bigtime, so if you order any kind of yogurt soju mix just be aware that it's going to be watered down. If you go with straight soju bottles and beer you'll be fine.

Service is pretty crappy - I usually go with Korean people so I don't think it's some kind of racial thing, I've just noticed that the bars and restaurants in K-Town often have very forgetful service - you'll order something and they will simply forget about it. I don't really hold this against them because it's not unique to this restaurant.

Atmosphere is great - many of the tables are nestled away in wooden enclosures so you can hang with your friends semi-privately.

Overall it's one of the best korean bars in K-Town.

I braved the winter weather last night to come here with some good friends of mine. Its a great place for small groups to drink and enjoy each other's company. They have private areas for your group and it is encourage to write on the walls and benches.

We ordered spicy chicken soup, some sort of spicy noodles, cheese corn and soju to wash it all down. I don't know the names because my Korean friend ordered it but it was all very good.

This place will certainly be on my list of restaurants/bars that I regularly frequent.

Usually, I go to this place just to drink, snack, and chill with some friends.

this visit...was different.  Andy P. had a super hankering for spicy soup on a snowy day, therefore we had to put all our lives in danger to fill a craving.  Officially my first time eating dinner in this cool lil Korean dive bar.

Two orders of corn cheese, one order of some spicy chicken soup, and an order of a spicy chicken noodle dish is what we shared between 6 people accompanied by 3 bottles of Soju and some Welch's Grape drank.  Holla holla.

Anyways, food was pretty delicious.  4 stars for food.  1 star for service because, to be blunt, it sucked.  And the waitress was not cute enough to raise the stars on this one.  Sorry, no sa rang hey for you wench.

Anyways, 3 stars because of the pressure Andy is putting on me and also because when I come here not to eat, drinks come out fast.

    A-OK.

We went to Dan Sung Sa at about 5pm on a Saturday evening. It really looked like a fun izakaya, although since we arrived early (with our two kids), we were the only patrons there. We are used to Japanese izakaya's small portions where you can order many dishes to accompany your drinks. The portions here, however, were really large! Just keep that in mind when ordering, because your table will fill up fast with large dishes.

The food was tasty, although nothing really fantastic. Seems like it would be a really fun place to hang out with your friends and eat drink and karaoke!

This place is the absolute worst bar/restaurant in Dallas.

I went to Dan Sung Sa with a group of friends on 9/4/2009 and ordered a bottle of Crown Royal at premium bottle price (basically they're making 100%-150% profit from that one bottle). The waitress brought the bottle open with the spout attached and we proceeded to take our first shot and realized something was off. The alcohol seemed to taste watered down, but I'm thinking no way that can be possible, this is an established business. So I decided to test this theory by ordering another bottle, but asked the waitress if we could get it unopened and that we would put the spout on ourselves. She asked me why, so I explained the situation and she assured me that they do not water down their bottles and said she could not give us an unopened bottle.

I asked her why not? and she told me that they preopen all of their bottles of Crown because they sell out every night. She then becomes extremely sarcastic and tells me to go back to my friends and ask them if they want the bottle or not, and of course I said no and asked for the check. At this point I'm extremely perturbed about the situation. While we're getting the funds to pay for this mishap of a Friday night, she returns to our table and asks if we would like to stay longer because she would be willing to go to the liquor store and purchase a bottle of Crown for us. Mind you it was 12:30am and liquor stores close at 9pm in Dallas. -_- z z z

To some this might seem like just a theory with no proof, but after telling this to a friend of mine who happens to know the management there, told me that I was correct. He also told me there was a time a waitress asked him what would be the best way to water down their liquor.

I've no way lied about anything said in my review and everything that happened that night is completely true.

For whoever reads this I strongly advise you to NOT go to Dan Sung Sa unless you want watered down liquor.

Went here last week with my crew... after leaving go-shen across the street within 2 minutes...

The yogurt soju is good... (how can you mess it up?).. good price too..

The food is good... better than average...

However..... didn't care for the corn cheese thingy... and here is a warning to all NON-KOREANS....

Korean restaurants do not know the meaning of... money back in case you didn't like your dish/food....

So... be prepared.... perhaps its a cultural thing..... but good luck getting your money back if you order something that you didn't like...

In case your curious... take a group of people.. that way.. you can order a bunch of stuff and sample...

I still love this place.... I like the abuse I guess....

    Spank me franchesca!

Small but cozy bar in K-Town. Went there for a friends birthday and we were really taken care of. We had lots of food dduk bokki (rice cakes in spicy sauce), dalk ddongjip (chicken gizzards), kimmari (jap chae noodles wrapped in seaweed and fried...so yummy!), the fruit plate we ordered was so good, tons of fruit and a variety.
The bar is just a bunch of private wooden booths for about 6-8 people and some smaller ones for 2-4 people. The seats aren't very comfortable actually since there is a pad thrown over a wooden bench, but I like the high booths anyway. I didn't pay anything, so not sure about the price..sorry!
