This is not a good club. You can not have any fun here.. The owner is VERY mean and does not care about customer service or anyone else except himself. Also if you plan on working here the workers are treated poorly and under paid. The food is terrible. You guys do not want to know what goes down in the kitchen with the food...:(
The drinks are not good and watered down by too much ice. If I was you I would think twice about going to this club!
Stopped in on a Friday night to the déjà blue "lounge" around 8pm on a Friday night.  The place was nearly empty, clearly lit, and was serving a limited bar menu with happy hour prices. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly.
As we finished dinner the place began to transform into a laser light show complete with DJ and club music. Â We finished up and left around 9:30/10 while the place was startiing to fill with the club crowd. When we circled back an hour or so later it looked crowded and fun... But an early morning called for responsibility and restraint. Â Next time, deja blue...
$2 oceanfront beers make me a fan.
So many fake reviews. This place needs to go out of business fast. Menu was limited. Waiter said they weren't allowed to serve us dinner yet. Wanted to charge $150 to sit on the couch even though we were the only people there. Waitress was very unknowledgeable and had to "ask" to answer any of our questions. serves bottom shelf liquor HD. I'm surprised it doesn't come out of a red solo cup.
Review Source:So my wife and I brought our kids to the Oceanfront for some fireworks and we were hungry. We decided to give this place a try since the reviews were not bad and it was close to where the fireworks would be. When we walked in the place was dead. One table was leaving and we were the only people (other than staff) in the place. Our waitress was incredibly nice though and very attentive. She wasn't to sure about some menu items when we asked, she tried her best to explain them though. That aside, we tried the fish and chips and chicken wings. The chicken wings were slightly overcooked but the kids really liked them that way. My daughter said it really added to the flavor of the skin. The fish and chips was a little stronger in flavor than I normally eat but with a spritz of lemon, it was very good.
I think this place was about average. I would eat here again if some friends wanted to go because I really want to try the jambalaya. I mean, I really want to try it. The menu is very, very limited but that can be good if you have a hard time deciding. My wife didn't like the limited menu because most of the food is stuff she wouldn't eat.
We were at the Oceanfront for the fireworks one Weds evening with the kids and needed some food, so we hit up Yelp for a good new place for food... the reviews were good and figured what the heck, right? Well, the place was dead, I mean a hostess, a bartender and the owner... all blue lighting, very dark, the "blue jazzy feel" we were thinking this can't be good. The waitress was very very nice... she didn't know the food very well, the menu was very limited and they don't have a children's menu although one is advertised on the bottom of the menu, I guess not many kids come to a jazz club.. So, we ordered the kids the chicken wings appetizer, and my husband and I ordered the fish & chips. Â The kids loved the wings, they were drums not the "special" ones hehehe and the fish was great, Old Bay seasoned, breaded, fried up, not sure what kind it was, but white, flaky and very flavorful. My husband was afraid it would be pungent and he doesn't like fish that tastes like fish, (what's the point ya know?) but it was good for even his tastes...
And although I will admit I did feel a bit out of place as the other patrons came in and we were the only lighter skinned customers, the staff was absolutely amazing, down to earth, and easy going, because I was very judgmental on my first impression... mainly due to having my children with me and not knowing the way the evening would shape up... but it turned out great, the food was reasonably priced, they staff, super nice, and tasted good...
So although I wouldn't make a habit of hanging out there, if you want some Louisiana style eats and don't mind the dark dark blue lighting, it is very nice...
The frozen drinks (one blue, one purple-ish) and sides (except for the french fries, which were really good) were nothing to write home about, but the appetizers (Big Easy Glazed Wings) and main course (Louisiana Bronzed Catfish) were REALLY good.
The portions are good, if you just need something to hold you over. We shared not knowing what to expect, so needless to say we were hungry again about an hour later. If you're looking to get STUFFED, I suggest you order an appetizer, entrée and dessert -- and don't share.
We were there during Happy Hour, so we saw the entertainment (a jazz band) prep for the evening show. Stick around for what's probably a good show. We walked by later and the crowd was jumpin. Seems like quite the party scene for jazz lovers.
Have you ever walked into a place and thought that you should turn and walk away, quickly? Â I must admit that this was my first impression when I stepped into Deja Blu. Â But, for once, I'm glad I didn't act on it. Â
My companion and I were stopping over in Virginia Beach on our three-week adventure up the East Coast. Â We hadn't planned this part of the trip very well and decided to walk down the strip until we found something that piqued our interest. Â The doorman at Deja Blu yelled out and encouraged us to give it a try, so we did.
When we first walked in the dim, all-blue lighting was quite an adjustment from the bright beach. Â
As soon as we got our bearing and our eyes refocused we noticed we were the only patrons in the place. Â Normally that is not a good sign. Â We were seated by a Russian waitress named Anna, who spoke very broken English. Â As soon as she handed us the menu Anna started naming all the items that were "not" available -- another bad sign.
After Anna walked away, we agreed that we would have one quick drink and make a run for safety. Two large men staring at us from behind the bar made us feel like we were in a hideout for the Russian Mafia.
When Anna returned I asked for the mango margarita and my companion had a Singapore Sling. Â All I can say is WOW! Â It was the best margarita I've ever had. Â It had a smooth texture with a sweet mango puree. Lined with sugar the mixture was sweet and salty at the same time. It was so good that I ordered another and my friend got one too. Â By the time I got to my third mango margarita I realized we better order food. Â
Still being cautious at this point, we started with the Old Bay steamed shrimp. Â They were plump, sweet, fresh and just delicious. Â Feeling more comfortable we ordered a few more appetizers and were very pleased with each dish. Â Anna was warming up to us and gave us suggestions on what to try. Â By the end of the night we were taking group pictures with Anna and promising to visit again.
At some point during our visit a live band started to play and a few more patrons came in. Â We stayed and enjoyed the band for several hours and after a few more mango margaritas we stumbled down the moon lit beach and back to our hotel. Â If you ever make it to the boardwalk area of Virginia Beach do yourself a favor and have a mango margarita at Deja Blu.
My co-worker and I picked this place on a whim. Â We didn't know what to expect, to be honest. Â When we got there, it was empty. Â I thought they were about to close up for the evening. Â How wrong I was.
This place is more like a jazz lounge than a restaurant. Â They weren't closing for the night; they were just getting started. Â We were seated at the bar. Â I ordered fried chicken wings for an appetizer and jambalaya for an entree. Â The wings were decent, but I didn't exactly go nuts for them. Â The jambalaya, on the other hand... man, I haven't tasted it that good since my days down in Atlanta. Â Presentation was nice. Â They mounded the rice into a volcano-like structure in the middle of the plate, and covered it and the rest of the plate with the jambalaya. Â It had just the right amount of heat. Â The andouille sausage had just a hint of sweetness to it.
I'll definitely be back.
This Place is Awesome. I love the ambiance and the food was wonderful. The staff was attentive and the BAND WAS AMAZING. I loved the elegance of this place. one block away from the beach front of Virginia Beach, VA. I have eaten here several times and I have never been disappointed. I love the owners how they look after the guest and staff alike making sure that all goes smoothly for the customers.
This NYC man is going back for more...
This is an incredible music themed restaurant and bar with exceptionally hospitable owners and staff.
Within a short walking distance to the Virginia Beach boardwalk, the mood and decor are one of the most unique experiences you will encounter on the Oceanfront. The musicians are superb and the food tops off the experience with an unforgettable finish.
Definitely place Deja Blue at the top of your dining and recommendation list!
For an Oceanfront nightclub, Deja Blue is unique for three reasons: It is one of the only "grown up" night spots at the beach. It is one of the only Black-owned businesses on Atlantic Avenue. It is one of the only places at the beach that plays live jazz, blues and R&B.
For all those reasons and more, I love Deja Blue. It's a dressed up, smooth jazz, grown and sexy night spot for those of us who are too old or just plain sick of the smelly, standing room only bars pounding your eardrums with bass and incomprehensible lyrics. The night I went with my friends they opened with an art auction and then had a lively male R&B quartet and ended the night with a classic jazz band. Perfect! Add in the southern home cooking on the menu and it's magnificent.
