Vegetarians beware! Worst dining experience ever.  Staff was totally ignorant of the menu. Apparently they had recently taken one of the vegetarian dishes and added pork but failed to change the menu. I ate pork  for the first time in 10 years and was very unhappy about the situation. My husband did not like anything he had either and he will usually eat anything! We literally left without paying and stopped at a gas station to try to wash down the pork.
Review Source:Bad. I have been twice an really thought it growing pains, but the food just isn't very good. Everything steamed was soggy and everything fried was soaked in grease. The waitstaff didn't know what was in any of the dim sum - which is a problem for my vegetarian wife. Â Man I miss the Piggy Bank.
Review Source:Received a coupon in the mail and decided to check it out despite the poor reviews. Â Pulled into the parking lot to find the building in total darkness on a Saturday night. Â It was not a good sign. Â Handwritten sign to say they were closed until MARCH 2013!!!! Â WTF? Â You just sent me a coupon! Â Aargh. Â I would give NO STARS if I could.
Review Source:I am no dim sum expert, but I know what I like to eat and this place was awesome.  The shrimp balls with bacon were so good even my picky eater child  gobbled them up.  I really enjoyed the steamed pork buns as well. Â
But the food was not the only satisfying part of Dim Sum Vault, the staff was surprisingly helpful. Â Maybe they have taken the advice of previous "yelpers" because we were greeted right away despite the restaurant being pretty crowded. Â Our server offered to explain the dim sum menu and throughout the meal a manager checked in to make sure everything had arrived and to see if we had any questions or issues. Â I can;t wait to go back.
Being a Beacon resident, I was excited that finally there was a new restaurant in town. Â What a disaster! Â Sat at a table for 20 minutes. Not one server ever bothered to acknowledge us. Instead the staff congregated in the back by the kitchen or walked by us to set up another table. We got up and left (as did the table next to us, having been ignored as well). Not even going to attempt to give it another chance.
Review Source:I went to this restaurant last night for the first time. I'm Chinese and def would consider myself a Chinese food snob. Ive tried many restaurants across the country and many so called Dim Sum places but they all turned out to be nothing more than take out quality food. Despite all the negative reviews, this is def one of the best Dim Sum/Cantonese places I've been to that wasn't located in a Chinatown. Sounds like they had a rough start and many restaurants do when they first open. I'm going back this week to try the other items on their menu. Super excited I don't have to go to NYC Chinatown anymore for my cravings. Â A+++
Review Source:we have eaten here 2 times for eat in and 1 time for takeout. Â we have always had the dim sum. Â while everything we have eaten has been very good, they are often out of some of the dim sum choices which is very disappointing. Â service has been hot and cold (or should i say FREEZING!). Â had looked at the reviews before we went the 1st time and although they apparently had some huge service issues in the beginning, people said that things had changed for the better, which is what we had found on that 1st visit. Â service that night was good and attentive. Â the 2nd time we ate in things were ridiculously poor. Â Â there were very few people in the restaurant but the wait staff kind of just hung around and we rarely saw our waitress. Â thank God for one of the waiters who kept on checking in on us as well as the other few tables - he pretty much was handling the work load (although i did see a nice woman who seemed to wait on the table next to us effectively. Â the other 3 or 4 people were useless! Â we had been told that one of our choices was unavailable so we changed it to a chicken dumpling. Â we then had the good waiter come out and tell us that they only had 1 serving of the item we originally ordered, not the 2 we supposedly ordered. Â we told him that we had only ordered 1 and crossed it off our order when we were told it was unavailable. Â we said it must be for another table that had ordered the 2. Â he insisted it was ours so we ate it (and this was the "good" waiter). Â the chicken dumplings we had marked off to take the place of the so called unavailable item never came and when we asked about it we were told that we never ordered them - whatever! Â our waitress showed up w/ our dessert item before we were served our last dim sum and when we said something she said "oh that's ok, it will be out soon" Â when we said that we did not want to eat dessert before finishing our meal it took her a minute to realize that that was probably a good idea - oye! Â there were other issues too but too many to tell. Â we will give it another try as we love the dim sum. Â i think it depends on who is on for that meal as we did not see any of the wait staff on the 2nd night that we had seen on the 1st night.
Review Source:I tried to call in an order and was told that what I wanted  "they no longer did". I chose something else quickly while still on the phone and also told "oh we don't do that anymore either". I found this confusing since I was handed a menu 10 days prior by the manager of the restaurant. Stupidly, a few days later I went in to eat. Very unprofessional in every aspect. Sub par food. They seem to make up prices and not go by what is printed on the menu. Can someone please open a decent eatery in Beacon besides the Hop... please? It's not looking good for this place. Avoid!
Review Source:Second chance after a bad first impression. Â Decided to go on an off time Sunday at 3pm. Â Half of the dim sum were crossed off the menu. Â Our server was new, as she explained when we ordered orange chicken. Â Pet peeve of mine. Â The cooking apparatus in the kitchen was less obnoxious but still loud. Â No music but the tv was on food network which the staff seemed to enjoy. Â I don't recommend the crepes...slimey awfulness. Â The steamed buns were nice, but if you don't know your dim sum, don't expect them to help or point out which is which when they deliver it to the table. Â Vault fried rice is okay and the orange chicken was blah. Â After entrees were consumed, the wrong soup arrived...no points there. Â Despite this all, i was prepared to rate Dim Sum a 2 because of one employee who had a smile and tried his best to make up for the rest of the uninterested staff...but then I watched the woman who took our order light up just outside the entrance/exit in conversation with another employee who was smoking as well. Â As we left, there was no goodbye, just a puff of smoke to walk through. Â Someone really needs to manage this place...what a shame.
Review Source:Very frustrating to deal with. We first tried them back when they opened and after lousy service we decided to see how they did after adjusting to some growing paints. Apparently they have not. I called one evening to order dim sum to pick up, and everything I asked for I was informed was no longer on the menu. I said it was on the web site and was told the web site was in need of updating. I gave up and ordered from another restaurant in town instead. Three weeks later we decided to go in on a Sunday afternoon, about 3pm. The in-house menus had many items crossed off. The waitress did not understand what I was trying to order because she was unfamiliar with the menu. We took a guess at what to order, but when it arrived we were not informed as to what we were about to eat and had to guess. The food seemed no better than the fast-food Chinese places that you can eat at much more cheaply. Â Lastly, the staff seemed uninterested and bothered by our being there, save one person who smiled and explained the one dish he delivered. The single star is for him. PLEASE do better. Get a manager who can keep the staff from smoking and texting in front of the entrance. Get coordination and update the menus online for people who call.
Review Source:I would give no stars if i could....
We've been so excited to finally try this new place, and with the mixed reviews we thought we were in for a delicious meal. Â HARDLY!!!!
First of all there is no front entrance, a door, but you have to go through the side of the restaurant; random!  The decor is nice, trendy,  and I feel like that's what the owner of this establishment focused on.  He did not focus on hiring any sort of management, qualified workers, A CLEANING SERVICE, or um maybe making some awesome food.  We sat awkwardly for about 10 min before anyone came over, there were five tables in the whole restaurant and about 4 servers FYI. well someone finally came over we weren't  ready to order, so they asked if we wanted some green tea, (we never got any) and they brought us wine glasses.  Best part of this meal was the wine! (and its BYOB) However as we were enjoying our wine, we started noticing some fruit flies...... some turned into alot and alot  turned into a ridiculous amount. GROSSSSSSS then we saw a fly and thank god this was before we ordered.  As we finally took a look at our surrounding we noticed just how filthy the floors were, then to top it all off we noticed the waiter cleaning one of the tables with windex, and leaving all the new crumbs that just piled up over the old ones.  We should have left and i'm embarrassed to say we didnt .  We ordered very very safe items, one was inedible, and the other two were less than mediocre . Well we left miserable.  This could have been such a great addiction to the many talented restaurants in Beacon, however this is a HUGE FAIL.  Please get some management and clean up YOUR BRAND NEW RESTAURANT!!!!
This establishment is very nice and the food is very good. Last evening we stumbled upon Dim Sum Vault and will return. The waitress was friendly and attentive. The only detraction is the roaring sound from the woks in the kitchen. The food was very good and tasty. We ordered 5 different items and all were good. The stand out was the shark fin dim sum. I gave the price one star, as many of the items are really reasonable. The dinner menu also is priced really well. We only had dim sum, but I noted the dinner portions appeared to be large and attractive. We were in at 930pm and the staff was still working hard to service our needs. Nice decor and real glassware to serve water in. This may seem like a small item, but plastic water glasses used by many establishments seem low class. I would suggest giving this nice place a try. We have so few places in the Hudson valley that try to be just a little bit different. Three stars for working hard. Also, rather than giving a chain unit your hard earned money, give it to guy trying to build America.
Review Source:I really like this place. Â Second time visiting with the family. Â The dim sum is very authentic and so are the cantonese dishes. Â Really reminds me of food from Chinatown or Hong Kong.
We spoke to the waiters and the chefs are apparently from HK, which explains the authenticity! Â The "har gow" is excellent, thin chewy skin with fresh shrimp inside. Â All the dim sum is great - really enjoyed my meal both times!
I do think some things could be improved. Â The waiters could be a bit more knowledgable and not seem to discourage you from ordering the dim sum as it takes a "long time". Â It wasn't a long wait at all in my opinion and everything was hot and fresh, well worth the "wait". Â Also the window sills could use a bit of dusting...I'm sure in a few more weeks they will get everything down!
Otherwise food is excellent- definitely coming back here again!
5 stars for the food, and 4 stars for the service- if I could give this 4.5 starts I would!
As an avid dim-sum eater who's been eating dim-sum her whole life, I thought the dim-sum was rather delicious. I tried this place 2 weeks ago and tried a bunch of the dim-sum including chicken feet and dumplings with chives and shrimp. For a suburban dim-sum place, it is very close to being authentic. *A note here, dim sum is not meant to be an "appetizer" before a meal. it is essentially family-styled small dishes. Don't be surprised when the "main course" is presented along with the dim-sum. Â
I give half a star less because dim sum eaten in urban cities start as early as 7 AM but this place doesn't open til noon. Also another half star less for not having their set lunches/dinners together yet. The wait staff was attentive but that may be because we came early on a Sunday noon. Â
I would definitely come here again when I have a craving for dim-sum.
Dim Sum Vault passed the 2nd time test, and was even better this time. Â We tried a bunch of new stuff, including the steamed chicken dumplings, stuffed eggplant, stuffed peppers, sesame balls, and what they called cruller rice crepes (I think). Â I really liked it all, although the stuffed peppers were better than the stuffed eggplant, if you're trying to choose. Â And for those of you very familiar with Chinese food - it turns out the the cruller rice crepes are actually youtiao wrapped in rice noodles. Â I found this a bit odd, and while it tasted okay, I'll admit that with most of it I just took off the rice noodle and ate the youtiao by itself.
Anyway, I've raised my rating by one star and am VERY happy that good dim sum has come to Beacon...just when I thought it couldn't get any better here!
Made two trips to Dim Sum Vault in a little more than a week. The comments here are generally right on. The food is very good Cantonese--don't go thinking you're get great Sichuanese, even though Kung Pao chicken is on the menu. It's a dim sum place, with some noodles, some Cantonese dishes and quite a bit of seafood. They have had some snafus getting set up in the first week or two, and it got pretty bad. Whole sections of the restaurant being ignored, checks not getting picked up, orders not being put in.
But the food is good. Definitely the best Chinese in Beacon already (though the competition is a couple of fast food places and one pan-Asian place). The dim sum we ordered on two visits is all good or better, and we've ordered a variety (steamed, fried, vegetarian). The pan fried noodles were generous and not swimming in sauce or grease. The salt and pepper squid was nice and also not at all greasy for having been fried. The sizzling short ribs were good too.
The dinner combos are a good value. Eight bucks for a sit-down dinner in a pleasant space is hard to beat. Still, it's a shame that the "dim sum dinner boxes" aren't available (they apparently put too much pressure on the cooks and confused the customers). We haven't tried the really high end stuff yet. As someone else mentioned, it's a big menu. You could go for a bowl of noodle soup, or you could go for a dim sum weekend feast, and it's good to have that variety.
They clearly knew, even on our first visit, that the service staff were overwhelmed, and by our second visit, things were much better. Our main waiter was almost too attentive, in a way that made it pretty clear that the management knew what was going on, so it's an encouraging sign. I have high hopes that this will become a regular place, so maybe the fourth star is more optimism than reality, but even in one week, the trend is positive.
Dim Sum  chicken and vegetable were horrible. The filling was very thick and the filling was not appetizing. The Buddha's delight entree was tasteless with no real veggies, just chestnut and tofu. I will try once more again in fall when they have their act together. The selections are varied, but I think they need to narrow the selection and perfect it before going big bang
Review Source:Service- extremely lacking, staff needs training, a smile would help
-At one point my husband needed a fork but the server never came anywhere near our table for us to request one. Â We managed with our chopsticks but a fork would have been easier for our fried rice.
       - Space is very clean, and great decor improvement from previous Piggy Bank.
Food- tasted OK, but not much better than your average Chinese take out.
-The menu is way too long and overwhelming.
-There are items on the menu that needs English translation.
-Don't order the spare ribs in black beans sauce from the dim sum menu, it is tiny pieces of bone and fat, in a clear broth. Very disappointing. Had there been any meat included it probably would have been a pretty good choice.
- The Szechuan shrimp was not hot or spicy as we had hoped .
- There is shark fin on the menu, see <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.stopsharkfinning.net%2F&s=3fd1aa42610400568241cd3115748d8a6531af9b9c3f528f6c7dde8854be0add" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.stopsharkfinn…</a>.
OKay they are still having growing pains so the review is for taste, flavor and presentation.
Gr8 menu selections and very friendly for the vegan communitiy.
Staf pleasant...but a little chaotic even when the place was not packed. ???growing pains???
We had a sample plate and really only selected a few differnet dim sum specialities.
Not a real dinner...
I'll go back in the fall and see if they gea little more together.
If you have time...they have a lot to offer.
