Came here on a Friday night around 7 and we were sat immediately which was nice.
The tables need a bit of an update- a few were a little unstable but that is an easy fix.
I think they do karaoke or live music but that wasn't starting until later. Â They had a great playlist on during dinner- enough for everyone to mention something about it at one point during the meal.
Two of us ordered the mac and cheese- one with lobster. DELISH. Â VERY very rich- I usually eat everything and I brought half home. Â
They had a garlic ranch dressing and it was delicious (for side salad).
The fish and chips were also really good... I noticed that they are also featuring a Caribbean type of cuisine as well on special.
I'll be back- really nice vibe, super friendly servers.
I have been going to Dinos since they opened. I have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Used to be a nice place to go for pricey than normal food that was very good. However, lately the place is just too loud. It doesnt seem to matter what time of day it is. Â There are always tv's blaring and the music extremely loud, even when there was only 3 people in the place. I know, if you dont like how loud it is, dont go there. So I dont anymore. Plus, the service is hit or miss. Seems like they dont have enough wait staff to handle the volume of business.
Since I dont like the volume of the sound in the place, we decided to order a carry out. I placed the order online and we arrived when the confirmation email said our order would be ready. Â Well, when we inquired about our order, the bartender pulled the order off the fax machine and said it will be another 20 min wait because they just saw the fax. I guess the 5 people in the place were taking up the bartenders time. Maybe they need a better online ordering system. Although Anita's uses the same system and they always have the order on time. Or maybe Dinos just started online ordering and havent figured it out yet. Whatever the reason doesnt really matter. There are many more restaurants in Ferndale to visit or get a carry out from.
With all that said, I might return in the far future. Especially if they put back on the menu the half chicken dinner  and the buffalo shrimp appetizer with the best damn blue cheese coleslaw I ever tasted.
I liked my greasy egg quesadilla thing but my girlfriend ordered the sliders and they were disgusting. Stale bread, gross cheese and dry. Both of our potatoes were cold and undercooked. The fruit was warm which is not cool. Â The bloody mary was good but they give you wells vodka and the mimosa was warm and tasted sub dece. PBR was excellent. Â Overall this restaurant kind of sucks. The vibe is cheapy tacky...honestly get some chairs that dont remind me of a retirement home and tables that aren't bigger than my living room. Sorry for being so harsh but this place needs to be knocked down a peg.
Review Source:My husband and I came here the morning after our anniversary for the endless mimosas and bloody mary bar. Hubs was nervous about the bloody mary bar as opposed to premade but he ended up loving it. I went with the mimosas, they were good. The french toast with nuts was so good! The bonus strawberries to finish the plate were a nice touch. Attentive waitstaff too!
Review Source:Came in on a Friday night for a quick dinner. It was LOUD and there was one particular group of ladies that raised the decible meter by about 30 points. Had we not been in a hurry (and they were one of a few restaurants around that actually tables available) we honestly might have walked out. Luckily the ladies wrapped after about 15 minutes and it did get considerably less boisterous in there but it is definitely not a spot for a quiet, intimate dinner. But if you're looking for a lively spot this is your place!
They were setting up karaoke and the fella and I looked at each other in fear that perhaps we'd have to enjoy our meals to the sounds of someone warbling "Sweet Caroline" or something but luckily we finished just before it started around 9pm. Not that I'm anti-karaoke. Far from it. I just have to be there FOR the karaoke. This was my first time at Dino's on a weekend evening so I didn't quite know what to expect. Now I do!
We were lucky enough that the April dinner special was brunch any time. Now, you're takin' my language! I ordered the chicken and waffles and it was fantastic. The chicken legs were hands down the largest legs I've ever seen. They were turkey leg sized and juicy and oh so delicious. I got 3 with my dish and I only ate one and was hella full. This is easily a plate packed with leftovers or to split. The waffles were also good but I will admit mine were a little overdone so they were a little on the crunchier side. But it did make them a little caramelized which I enjoyed. It also came with a side of mac and cheese and this mac and cheese? Boy was it good! Creamy, super cheesy, and ever so delicious. I can't wait for my next visit to order a whole plate of it.
So, over all a great bar scene perfect for a fun night out with a tasty dinner. Karaoke to boot! But for a quiet meal you might want to steer clear, at least on a Friday or Saturday night.
Super frustrated with the service. Â We walked in for brunch on a Sunday, stood at the Woodward entrance for 5 mins without ONE person acknowledging our existence. Typically, if you're busy someone- anyone says "be right with you" or "the hostess will be right back,"- nothing. The staff looked at us... But nothing uttered. I like the food and the Bloody Mary bar, and that's why I wanted to give it another shot after a less than thrilling dinner experience... But, looks like I will be an unsatisfied customer. Sorry for this review. It's just my experience.
Review Source:Ventured out to Ferndale this morning to meet my sister for brunch. Brought my two little ones along. I really wanted to get a drink, so we decided on Dino's. I had heard about the bloody mary / mimosa special... and it is great! TONS of fixins for bloodys - Very impressive. The only thing that could have made that part of my experience better is if I could have had more than one. Oh well, maybe next time.
This was the 2nd time I've been to Dino's. The first time I stopped in after work before a show at Go! Comedy and just had a drink and an appetizer. I think they have a decent menu but the food has only been OK for me so far. I ordered the veggie frittata made with egg whites to try and make a healthier choice. Eh, not so much. Although I am a cheese addict, the cheddar on this thing was overwhelming. I also thought the breakfast potatoes were a bit bland, but in all fairness - if you don't serve hashbrowns...I'm typically a little biased anyways because who doesn't love hashbrowns?!
My kids split the pancakes which were good and fresh off the griddle, they had a little bit of a bacon flavor to them - which I didn't mind when I stole a bite or 4. The fresh fruit that comes on the side is a nice touch.
Food is a 3 star for me, bloody bar a 4 star. I would maybe round down but the service was excellent! The wait staff was friendly and quick, and accommodating for us when I came in with stroller in tow. I am interested in coming back for their famous karaoke nights!
I had been here a couple times in the evening for drinks with friends. I heard brunch was good and finally made this week. Good food, good atmosphere and good service. Â My brother noted that he liked that they actually played music that he likes (and it was not so loud that we could not easily hear one another). The portion sizes seemed to depend on what you order. The Montecristo as described is gigantic, the frittatas are more manageable. Of the four dishes we tried we liked everything. I thought the side fried potatoes were okay if a bit dry. I did like that most of the dishes came with a small side of fresh fruit. Despite being fairly busy we had good service and the food came out within a reasonable time.
I am also a fan of the bottomless mimosas. They do both bottomless mimosas and bloody mary's on Saturdays and Sundays.
I went here on a Saturday night when we were waiting for a spot to open up at the Oakland. Â The chicken tenders were awesome (super crispy!) and the fries were good too.
As a bar, it was so-so. Â Just a mediocre live band and a 50+ age group in the audience. Â Some of the more inebriated old people got up and started dancing in the middle of the restaurant area, so there was some decent entertainment.
Love Dino's! Â
They are really good about promoting on facebook and always suck me in to wanting to stop by! Â YUM!
I liked Dino's so much, I hired them to cater my wedding last year and our guests are STILL talking about the food! (And I am still trying to get a custom order of the appetizers I never got to try) ;-)
Thanks for stellar service and delicious food! Â 5 stars!
I still love DIno's but moving it down to 4 stars after having dinner here - the food was a little disappointing (soup & quesadilla) -- maybe I just need to order something different. I do want to check out brunch.
It is STILL the best spot for Karaoke ever on a Friday night! However Saturday night after midnight there was live music happening but it was very dead... don't know if that was a fluke or if its typically quiet late Saturday night. Maybe its more of an early evening spot?
Service here is still phenomenal - and I will be back - hopefully after my next meal I can up it back to 5 stars!!
This is my favorite spot in Ferndale. Â I've gotten out of the bar hopping scene, so when I do decide to go out, this is pretty much the place. Â I've actually ordered food a only a handful of times, however I've always been quite happy. Â The menu is huge so there is definitely something for everyone from bar food to nicer entrees. Â
I have only been here weekend nights, and it gets pretty busy. Â There's always parties going on so if you want seating you probably have to come somewhat earlier in the night. Â I've never had an issue bellying up wherever and taking a seat at the bar if one opens. Â The karaoke on Fridays is fun, and live music on Saturdays is a good mix. Â Very different types of bands from week to week. Â
There is a great regular crowd there, I think they do a great job of catering to the regulars. Â The bar staff is quite nice, and being only a semi-regular they still all took the time to get to know me, and my beer is pretty much handed to me as soon as I get eye contact with someone working. Â
The owners have to be about the coolest bar owners I've ever met. Â A very sweet couple who I'd probably seen or spoken to a dozen times before I ever even knew they owned the place.
I'd recommend this place to an over 25 crowd who is feeling bored of the trendy hot spots. Â The crowd is extremely diverse with ages ranging from probably 21 to 60, however everyone just gets along well. Â I've never even seen the hint of a dispute between anyone ever, people there just have a good time.
Dino's you're weird.
I mean I like weird but, you're weird.
Props to the serving staff here who have hooked up speedy service a few times to help us get where we needed to be in a relatively short period of time. Not props to the lobster in my mac and cheese that had the consistency of beef jerky. Good thing we ordered some of your phenomenal hummus to help me wash that chewy morsel down -- I let the rest remain out of my stomach.
I love karaoke night here, people get into it, and you almost feel like you are at a silly family reunion where you may just make out with your cousin. Â Wait what? I'm sorry that was their strong drinks talking, strong yet slightly higher priced than other restaurants in the area drinks. Really though the karaoke here is awesome, but it does seem like everyone can sing decently which prevents folks like me (a croaking frog) from eagerly making a fool of myself. I need to get drunk to do karaoke normally so I would have to be carried on and off the stage to perform in this joint.
Atmosphere is 'meh' to me excluding the crowd. Last time we stopped in we wished a fellow patron who was celebrating his birthday a good one and he returned the favor with wishing us a blessed and safe night along with a beaming smile. It is that kind of place, a great mix of peeps.
..Just don't order their lobster jerky.
It's a fun bar, but shouldn't serve food. They promote they have a gluten free menu. When I inquired about it, I was told to remove bread from whatever I ordered so it would be gf. Â Umm, no, that's not how it works.
My friends ordered food and said it was okay. Nothing special.
Nice place to see a band and have a few drinks but I'd eat somewhere else.
Service is horrid if you have a large group (8 or more). It took over 45 minutes after we ordered to get our food. We had separate checks and the waitress kept making mistakes. She even forgot to bring the credit card slip to sign after charging my card. I spoke to the manager and owner and was basically told that it was our fault for having a large group. That to her, it's not unreasonable to spend 2.5 hrs for brunch. They basically made excuses for poor service and then when I complained, they acted like I was crazy and did zero for us. No apology, no money off the bill, nothing!
The food was actually good. But if they expect me to spend 2.5 hrs to eat brunch, almost an hour of which is waiting for food, they are crazy.
The customer is always right, except at Dino's
Update: The owner of Dino's decided to chime in, have a look for yourself at what an unprofessional establishment this place truly is. Attempting to disguise himself as another customer and calling himself "Dean B" Too bad he A) shows his face on his avatar, and B) I spoke to him when I was at the restaurant. He also has 0 reviews on Yelp.
"What a joke! Was it forty five minutes or 21/2 hours? Â Just so you know, it takes 45 minutes fir a crappy pizza to show up. You were in a very busy restaurant with a large group and your complaining? Nor to mention you said the food was good? Dino's has great food and better service. This sounds like a rant from a born complainer. You should count your blessings that you got sat in this place where I see people wait outside for several minutes to wait for a table.
You are what makes Yelp difficult to rely on for accurate depictions."
And a second comment, whether true or not (totally untrue by the way) is just a low blow and shows what kind of a person this Dean B really is
"FYI. The people you where with expressed their embarrassment after you left. "we're never going out with him again... Does this every time"
Good work Dean B, you just earned yourself a report to the BBB for unprofessional behavior. He forgot to mention that he and the waitress were badmouthing our party while we were still there. Decent food or not, for heaven's sake, have some class Dinos!
I've been to Dino's quite a few times on many occasions. For a Saturday night out, on a pub crawl, with my parents for a weekday dinner, happy hour with the girls and most recently Sunday morning brunch.
Dino's just has a friendly relaxed atmosphere that is great for so many occasions. And I love sports, but sometimes you don't want 50 TVs in your face, and they do have some behind the bar, but otherwise you can actually enjoy a conversation. The have PBR and always a fun mixed drink ready to serve up. On Sunday morning brunch, the bottomless mimosa's were perfect.
I've tried quite a few items on the menu and they have all been really good, except for one time the boneless wings were a little undercooked. But no biggie. When we take new people there, they ask what to get and I say "everything I've had here is great" and inevitably when the get their food, they agree.
Thanks Dino's for being awesome! My only complaint is that it's so pack on Saturday night.
I had penne Florentine with shrimp. Â The shrimp still had the little poop vein in it. Â The other ones that didn't where grilled to high Zeus. Â Mr Gabby-I'm so important I need to talk on the phone for 20 minutes- had the tortellini- Â he said it was over cooked. Â Miss Llimpy had a burger, which she loved and said the fries were bland. Â I like Dino's and atmosphere is good. Â But... Poopy shrimp is mega gross.
Review Source:I've been to Dino's many a time for a variety of reasons - and while I don't mind deciding to stop in, it's never really been my planned destination...
That said, things that are noteworthy: Dino's tends to have karaoke on Friday nights and some sort of live entertainment on Saturday nights. Â They have brunch with bottomless mimosas available as well as a make-your-own bloody mary bar on both Saturday and Sunday. Â Since Club Bart closed it's doors, Dino's has also started offering breakfast every day of the week. Â Happy Hour Monday-Friday, all day on Tuesday. Â They have outdoor seating both on Woodward and the pedestrian alley behind.
Dean is pretty activie in the Ferndale community- so he often has events that are community-focused. Â I haven't been for lunch or dinner in a while, but I've had the weekend brunch and have not been disappointed. Â Prices are a bit more than they should be - but I keep returning, so it must not be too unreasonable. Â Service is decent as well. :)
Had brunch thetwain Sunday was unimpressed. They crowd a lot of people into a small area. We waited over 30 minutes for food, the waitress apologized multiple times and when the food came we were disappointed again. My over medium eggs were over cooked and the biscuits were crunchy. My Bf's eggs Benedict were also over cooked, the yolks were cooked solid. On the bright side they gave us 40% off the bill but I don't think we'll be going back.
Review Source:I've eaten here a few times and nothing has ever really jumped out to me as fantastic, so I was hoping to turn that around with brunch today. Â After hearing "you gotta go to Dino's for brunch, it's amazing!!!" I had high hopes.
Those hopes, however, were dashed.
I ordered the meat lovers frittata, which obviously came with all sorts of meat and a slice of swiss melted on top. Â Frittata was a bit over baked for my liking, the eggs were bone dry so thankfully the plethora of meat helped make it salvageable. Â I asked for no potatoes and the waitress offered to double up on the fruit, which was great, but I wonder if she forgot about the extra fruit or the 4 slices of kiwi and one strawberry WAS the double dose.
Also, because over the past few years I've become a big fan, I ordered a side of biscuits and gravy. Â Once again, disappointment struck big time as my gravy looked more like clam chowder as my dining companion observed, and was hugely lacking in flavor. Â I doctored it up as best I could with salt and pepper, and the biscuit wasn't anything to write home about either, but luckily the gravy helped to make the frittata more pleasant.
I opted not to partake in the bottomless bloody mary bar or mimosas because if I'm going to pay $15 for drinks, I'm going to get hammered, and hammered makes me order food even when I'm not hungry, and I wasn't about to drop more money on food that is just mediocre at best.
Sorry Dino's, I just don't have the love right now.
Fantastic happy hour, especially on Tuesdays when it runs all night. $3 wells, $2 beers and a menu of appetizers that are big enough to suffice as a meal - each at $5. I've had the calamari which was scrumptious, the roasted garlic which left me stinky but satisfied, and others have enjoyed the pizza and hummus with tasty pieces of pita. The staff has always been friendly  and the service is quick. There is live music later on Tuesdays but I've never stayed around late enough to enjoy it. The outside patio is a perk as well. Great place to go for a few drinks after work with friends.
I've also heard the brunch/breakfast is amazing but I haven't made it there yet to try. Someday - we all need to have goals.
Went for a birthday dinner and aside from our waitress being extremely slow and delivering our food in shifts... I didn't find much wrong with the place.
There was a live band and May was coined Mexican Month by the restaurant and had a separate menu for the theme.
I ordered the chimichangas and a margarita. I told the waitress I wanted it frozen, but it came on the rocks... Whatever. She was hard to grab hold of because of the volume in the room.
I enjoyed my food. I just wish the music weren't so loud (couldn't hear anyone at the table... Including the person sitting next to me!) and the staff were prepared for large groups.
This is a tale of Jekyll and Hyde.
I have walked past Dino's at least a hundred times, but never gone in. The Ferndale Patch article about majestic waffles with blueberry vodka whipped cream tipped me over the edge to step in with my beau after his show at Go! Comedy finished.
Dino's glows with woodsy warmth in a low-light intimacy. Widely spaced tables allow for privacy rather than eating elbow to elbow, like the WAB sometimes gets. A healthy number of diners tucked up along the expansive bar, taking in the Tigers game on the high-mounted televisions. We took a high table along the windows facing Woodward. No one was playing on the stage, but clearly they are a venue set up for musicians.
You have the choice of two menus -- the standard one, and then a rotating list of specials. April had a focus on Grandma's home cooking or something to that extent, and I nearly went in for the garden quesadilla. But whipped cream captured my heart, and that was that. The beau decided on the decadent macaroni and cheese, which our excellent waitress assured us was utterly magical. We were forewarned, but that's like trying to explain a hurricane to someone from a desert. Oh, little did we know.
The $10 macaroni and cheese is a masterpiece, a heart-clogging concoction of four melted cheeses saturating elbow macaroni. Molten cheddar and other, better sorts give way to a crispy shore. Long strings were spilling between the tines with each jealous bite my beau took. He shared, and I had a near orgasmic experience reserved for blissful sushi and cheesy magic. My waffle was on the brunch menu, therefore available for a $1 upcharge. Most restaurants don't charge for lunch options or portions, so I wasn't too excited, but got it anyways.
The waffle was underwhelming. On technicalities it was a cute four-parter, crisp, and fresh. The berries are spilled along the side. The intensity promised by the Patch reviewer failed to manifest, and soured my trust in his suggestions. Waffles = not so good for the price.
Service was four star, the macaroni five star+ and one of my best Ferndale meals ever, my waffle two star.
We returned for another dinner two weeks later, and Dino's showed its monstrous side. I went for the macaroni while the beau settled for a hamburger after a long search through the menu. Additions to burgers are a per-item cost, averaging $10-14. Surprisingly expensive for how unimpressive it is. He felt the items were way overpriced for what you got, except for the monthly specials.
Loud Rosie's escapees made the atmosphere unpleasant. They shouted and hooted at whatever game was on, making conversation difficult. We ate in silence, mostly. Service was very spotty. Our server made infrequent appearances, and someone please enforce a better server dress code here. She was wearing short-shorts that didn't even cover half her backside. I'm no prude, but if I want to dine where the servers wear belts for skirts/shorts, I'll go to a gentleman's club.
When it's quieter, it's a nice but too pricey spot. When it's loud, get me the hell out of there.
I really like Dino's for brunch. Â Their food is great! Â Last time I was there I split corned beef hash and a lobster frittata with someone and both dishes were great. Â They came with fresh fruit (that was actually fresh) and we both indulged in some bottomless mimosas - can't go wrong.
As a bar I like it although I am not usually a fan of going there when there is live music - due to its size its hard to hear people when there are live music events. Â Karaoke can be entertaining in limited doses. Â The bartenders are great however and make good drinks at reasonable prices.
I adore Dino's. Â Delicious martinis, fresh food...this has become one of my favorite places in Ferndale. Plue one and I normally sit at the bar and order a Rounder. Â Not familiar? Â You need to be. Â These delicious round sandwiches are pizza size and pack an even better punch than anything with sauce. Â I highly recommend the Italian Rounder. Â This was on the post-Marathon list of food places we had to go to (don't get me wrong, I don't have the food will power to be in proper shape to run a marathon, which is why I'm the yelp elite and Plus One is the super fast marathon runner).
The service is always wonderful and prompt. Â And their brunch is also lovely. One lovely Saturday morning, as I sat barely able to ingest food due to a few too many losing rounds of quarters, I still managed to enjoy a breakfast of an egg sandwich with spicy mayo with a side of fresh fruit. Â Red Stripe (vegetarian) also enjoyed her omelet, which was one of the first times she ate eggs in 7 years or something ridiculous.
Dino's = wonderful. Â The clientele is often local regulars, and I enjoy fewer scenesters than in Royal Oak. Â Perhaps the best part is the music. What a great selection. Â I think I hear Radiohead every single time I come here. Instant HEART!
Went there on a recommendation on a Sunday morning. Â The place was fairly busy but not bad. Â We waited for about 10 minutes for a table for 4. Â The food was solid, nothing over the top good but every dish was good. Â The bottomless mimosas and bloody marys seemed like a good deal but we had things to do.
My wife did get the make your own bloody bar and she loved it. Â You can fine tune your bloody mary to exactly what you want.
I'd have no problem going back if people wanted to go there but I'd probably try some place new in search of a fantastic breakfast.
Oh, the service was good. Â Our waitress was pleasant and quick to deliver refills.
We came in during open mic night, and enjoyed a nice little dinner with entertainment. I really enjoyed the variety of performers, and the overall vibe of the place.
I had a cup of chili (a strange request in the summer, I know) -- it was pretty good, but not exactly "garden fresh" as the name "Garden Fresh Chili" would imply. My boyfriend had the chicken caesar salad, and he said the chicken was done really well. I did think that $14 for a salad with chicken was a bit pricey, though.
I am excited to go back and try bottomless mimosas and brunch!
We stopped in for brunch today and just like I told our server, it was only okay. Â Nothing was wrong, but nothing was all that good. Â And for the price, I'd rather visit Fly Trap or Toast just down the street. Â
My blueberry pancakes were very dry and the blueberries were sparse. Â The biscuits that came with the biscuits and gravy were dry and there wasn't enough gravy to make up for the dryness. Â My friend said her breakfast quesadilla was okay but it came out cold. Â
To top it off our service wasn't that great. Â My friend never received a refill on her pop. Â I drank my first cup of coffee before we received our meal, and never received a refill until after we finished eating. Â I really could have used some to wash down those dry pancakes and biscuits.
Dino's is definitely a great spot to stop for lunch or happy hour on a nice day. Â Happy hour specials are pretty good ($5 calamari and other apps, 1/2 off certain bottles of wine). Â Food is solid. Â Try the cheese and roasted garlic starter (yum!) I like that Dino's changes up their entire menu monthly, featuring a new FUN theme. Â It's Greek Month now, and I know I need to make it in.
As far as ambiance, they have a great little front patio and back patio, depending on your mood and the weather. Â Inside is better-than-sports-bar but a little dark. Â (I LIKE LIGHT, even at the bar!) It's a very casual, chill bar. Come in with jeans and a top and you won't feel under or overdressed. Â Very relaxed and unpretentious.
The service is generally average to above average, which works for me! (Hey, I'm not at a 5 star place ordering filet...I'm snacking and getting drinks)! Â
The only thing I have an issue with is the BEER SELECTION. Â I am a craft beer fan, and Dino's could certainly use help with their list. Â Luckily, Emory is right across the street for when I'm jonesing for a good IPA selection. Â
Rock on Dino's!
So on Christmas eve, my fiancée and I were hungry.  Knowing that most places would be closed, we devised a plan:  Drive up and down Woodward until we find a place that looks open.  After passing by a few Asian restaurants that we weren't really feeling, we saw a sign in front of Dino's saying they were open and they had holiday specials.  Before we could think twice, I quickly pulled the e-brake on my car and did a perfect powerslide into a parking space in front of the restaurant.
I had never been to Dino's before, but I had heard a lot about it.  As a matter of fact, my fiancée had been there twice before with her friends.  She said she really enjoyed her previous visits, and that I would probably like it too.
We entered the building from the back entrance (the powerslide was a lie), and walked to the dining area. Â It looked like there was only one girl working the dining area, and one guy working the bar. Â It didn't really matter much, since they were pretty slow because it was Christmas Eve. Â I wouldn't expect them to have more people working than that. Â We were greeted by the girl in the dining room, and seated promptly.
Their menu had quite a few options, including their specials listed on a separate sheet.  I had a hard time deciding what to get, but I ultimately decided on one of their Veggie Portobello Rounders.  A Rounder is basically a giant round stuffed focaccia sandwich.  Dino's claims that their Rounders will serve 4 people, but I ate 3/4 of mine.  It is a lot of food, but I was super hungry.  Also, i'm big.  It was very good and very filling!  I was quite happy with my choice.  My fiancée had the Chicken Marsala, one of the items off of the holiday specials menu.  It was two chicken breasts served over a bed of risotto.  It looked delicious.  She seemed to really enjoy it as well.
I loved the food here. Â The service was on the slow side, but it was Christmas Eve. Â So I don't really fault them for this. Â The atmosphere of the place is pretty nice too. Â I hear they have a great brunch, so I will have to try that out as well.
I'm really glad this place was open on Christmas Eve. Â Overall, a very solid showing. Â I will definitely be back.
Went here to eat and enjoy some live soulfool/jazzy music around 10pm on a Tuesday night. Located in the hipster-urban downtown Ferndale, I must say the dark interior, live jazzy music performances, cozy interior, attractive bar, and friendly clientèle & wait staff all combine for a 4-star look and feel. Great place to hang out, especially if you like after hours spots like Cliff Bell's or Baker's Keyboard Lounge in Detroit.
However, I felt that the food was very skimpy portions for the price. The BBQ Chicken & Ribs meal had small portions of meat, and was only moderately tasty (tasted like Chili's or TGIF could have served it up - very generic). The $5 appetizers were also very basic and small. The calamari had only like 10-12 pieces of squid, the $5 pizza looked and tasted like a $1 microwaveable pizza from the grocery store freezer, the buffalo chicken chunks were literally dry chicken breast chunks with buffalo sauce, etc. You get my drift. The sliders were actually pretty decent, though.
Overall, I'd say this pretty neat place is a 4-star win for look, feel, soul and ambiance - with a kickass bar - but the lackluster culinary efforts are 2-star. Overall average? You guessed it - 3-stars! My advice? Come here for some drinks after dinner elsewhere to enjoy the live music at night and avoid going much further than a couple $5 starters or a dessert, food-wise.
We stopped at Dino's Lounge in Ferndale for brunch the other day. Â We were seated quickly and offered our choice of bottomless Mimosas or Bloody Marys. Â We chose the mimosas and they were pretty tasty, although a little weak--but definitely bottomless, as our waiter refilled our glasses before we ever came close to finishing the previous pour. Â For the Bloody Mary crowd, there's a bar near the door where patrons can add whatever condiments they choose to create their own signature cocktail.
The menu is an eclectic mix of brunch classics and twists on the same.  For example, in addition to Eggs Benedict, there's a Crab Benedict with sautéed crab cakes nestled between poached eggs and English muffin halves, all topped with hollandaise sauce.
The French Toast is fairly straightforward, made with thick cut challah bread and griddled to a tasty golden brown, before being topped with toasted walnuts and whipped cream. Â I paired mine with some Canadian Bacon. Â An interesting variation, for another day, is the French Toasted Breakfast Quesadilla-- an egg washed herb and garlic tortilla is stuffed with scrambled eggs, diced peppers, ground breakfast sausage and three cheeses, and grilled to a golden brown.
Our other choice this brunch was the Montecristo Gigantico--a large French toasted focaccia stuffed with ham, roasted turkey, smoked bacon, hash browns and Swiss, and dusted with powdered sugar. Â Maple syrup is served on the side, but we didn't bother. Â The powdered sugar created enough sweet to balance the savory smokiness of the ham and turkey. The end result was delicious flavor profile.
Brunch at Dino's is quite relaxing. I've also tried dinner here, which is top notch as well.
As my first time here I have to say I was pretty Impressed. We held a benefit for a co-worker at this venue and had a few live bands play. Â The staff and owner were awesome in helping us and gave us a sat night. We packed the place out and it was a great time We were even treated to Dino himself singing a tune with the band.
I got a Maurice sandwich which was very good and everyone that was sampling the fare here had nothing but rave reviews.
If you are looking for a good time in the Ferndale area this place is the spot. I look forward to going back to sample more of the food as well.
Shrugs...I wanted to add more stars, but the more I went the less the stars I could offer. On the first couple of trips the food was decent, not amazing but decent. I would go for brunch on Sundays...bottomless bloody mary's how can you go wrong huh?
Well Dino's found a way.
The service got progressively worse until on my last visit all hell broke loose... My friend ordered the bottomless mimosas...can you say PULP! Not just a little mind you but his glass clogged with pulp, they couldn't strain it before pouring?? The food, overpriced but decent came out luke warm with a shrug from the waiter... And the bottomless bloody mary bar I used to enjoy, it was never restocked during my two hours at the restaurant and you had to beg to have a new glass with vodka.
Sadly Dino's you lost this regular customer.
I'm not sure what to think of Dino's. Â For starters, I have only been there for dinner, so I can't rate/review it as a 'bar'. Â Secondly, I found a website that had $50 gift certificates to Dino's for only $20. Â Despite never being there I felt like it was a steal, and that's what brought me to Dino's..
I was not expecting the food to be so expensive there. Â Seriously, their prices were consistent with like Oxford Inn, as if they are trying to be some type of fine dining establishment. Â Now, if the food really was THAT good I wouldn't complain. Â
First, the service sucked. Â Like, SERIOUSLY sucked. Â There were only like 3 or 4 other tables there eating dinner, and each had their OWN server. Â So there was no excuse for the lack of service. Â After waiting almost 1/2 hr for our server to pick up our bill and run our CC I finally went up to the bar and had them do it. Â
The food was OK. Â The hummus appetizer was awesome, and my boyfriend really liked his prime rib. Â But his side of mashed sweet potatoes were gross, which is sad because there had to be at least 3 cups of it on his plate... I had chicken parmesan, and the pasta sauce was nauseating. Â WAY too much garlic, and this is coming from someone who LOVES garlic. Â It was seriously bitter.. and it was covering everything. Â I did my best to scrape it off, take lots of sips of water, etc, but it was pretty much inedible. Â
Ultimately, we paid $20 for the $50 gift certificate, and ended up owing like $13 on the tab. Â Was it worth $33 plus tip? Â Sure, but it would NOT have been worth $63 had I not taken advantage of that deal. Â We may try them again, just because 1/2 of the food we ate seemed good, but at their prices I would rather go to Oxford Inn and have an awesome meal.
The more you love them, the more they let you down.
Dino's still has pretty good food (most of the time), decent specials, and certain bartenders (John) who provide very good service. Â At the moment, however, I'm completely fed up with their misleading advertising practices.
Dino has recently discovered Facebook, and LOVES to post several times per day regarding daily specials & events. Â It has been very effective, my friends and I have gone in several times specifically in response to what had been advertised on Facebook. Â Unfortunately, not one of those experiences have been successful.
The first time, he posted photos of a gorgeous roast beef sub with portabella mushrooms and provolone, specifically listed as being served on a garlic ciabatta roll. Â I sent my husband right out to get me one! Â When we opened up the takeout box, it was a very good sandwich but just served on plain old bread. Â Oh well, we figured, slight disappointment and not worth making a big stink, particularly since Dino had offered free fries for FB fans - small price to pay, right? Â If that had been the only letdown, it would not have been a big deal.
The second time, the special was Lobster Mac & Cheese and the photo showed huge chunks of lobster mixed with pasta and real cheese. Â When my cousin and I ordered it, we received a bowl of basically Velveeta stew with mushy noodles and kind of a vaguely lobsterish flavor (no chunks of lobster whatsoever). Â She liked hers, but I couldn't eat it and gave it to her husband. Â The waiter noticed and said "Oh, didn't you like it?" Â I said no, and he was just like "Aw, that's a bummer." Â No offer to take it off the bill, bring me something else, nothing.
Today was the crowning achievement. Â For the last few days, Dino has been making posts inviting everyone to celebrate their New Yrs Day hangover at Dino's, complete with "resort-style buffet," bottomless mimosas & bloody marys, and a screening of The Hangover. Â A bunch of our friends planned to meet up there at noon, sounds fun, right? Â When we got there, the bartender told us that the dining room was closed for a private party! Â He'd been advertising for days and never once said that it was private! Â I made a comment on his FB page regarding this FAIL, and he simply commented back that there was room at the bar and we could order off the menu. Â Then he deleted my post. Â Classy.
I'm sure I'll still wind up there because all of my friends still like it, but I'm no longer a fan.
There's just something about Dino's. Â It's comfortable. Â It's friendly. Â The food seems good. Â I've had the Portobella sandwich twice, and both times it was delish. Â You've got to applaud consistency. Â
We were there on a Tuesday night - "open mic night" and the 2 person band wasn't bad. Â They played Hiatt, Stones, and other folksy/rock stuff. Â A young budding comedian took the stage for a few minutes - and while it wasn't really my kind of comedy, I give him a ton of credit for trying..."you go Man!"
Tuesday also brought 1/2 off bottles of wine and $5 apps. Â The sliders were very good! Â As well as the roasted garlic platter. Â You could make an entire meal out of the appetizers alone. Â I *heart* a good happy hour...we'll be going back!
I wonder if a lot of people end up here on Sundays around 9... I also went to eat somewhere else that was just closing and ended up at Dino's. Â Dane K... were you stalking me? only kidding.
One insider tip that ALL should know: bring a sweater or coat.. it is absolutely FREEZING in there!
Even though wine was half off, I decided to go for a beer... a draft of bud light was $4... a little pricey for watered down beer.. I opted for a cheaper PBR bottle option due to the unexpected high prices on the menu.
Never in my entire life have I ever seen a $12 quesadilla on a menu- until then. Uh, hey Dino, that better be a darn good dilla. Needless to say, I did NOT order that since the fear of it being bad was too hard to swallow with the price.
I ordered a salad-- they said they make their own ranch.. not sure if it actually tasted like it-- I am a little skeptical.
I also ordered the chicken vegetable soup. The chicken was marinated in Italian herbs and it was actually quite tasty. Â Our waitress Kristyn was extremely friendly and actually took my soup off the bill because she forgot to bring it. I didn't even care that she forgot it, but hey.. I'll take delicious free soup!
You can also order the lunch portions anytime since menu prices are so steep.
It wasn't at all what I expected, but there were other items on the menu that looked fab I just couldn't fork over the dough at the time..
I'll be back. But I will NEVER pay $12 for a dilla. That's just wrong.
This is the kind of place where literally everyone shook the bartenders hand and introduced themselves, or they already knew each other on a first name basis. Â (Well, everyone but me it seems!)
They had a lot of daily specials it seemed, and there were a few nights where it was 1/2 price bottles of wine. Â I know Sunday for sure all day was 1/2 price bottle wine. Â I think that there were other days they had 1/2 price bottles but maybe not the full day. Â Their wine prices were pretty good to start with... I saw a few people get a bottle to go when they were leaving, apparently the deal on some bottles makes it better than you might find in retail even.
They have a later night kitchen... I kind of ended up here because the two other places I was gonna try were closed at 9pm on a Sunday.
They had a high def plasma at the bar showing NBA on TNT... and a nice sized HD projector on the other side of the room. Â
Even though this place is a bar, the food is attempting to be upscale... Â I had a roasted chicken encrusted or stuff with rosemary. Â It was pretty delicious....I'm not sure if I'd rate the food 5 stars (4 maybe?), but the Ambiance and neighborhoodyness of this place gets it a 5...
