This place is a night club and during the day it's a restaurant. - I am reviewing the restaurant.
I work around the corner from this place and it's one of the only nicer sit-down areas in Downtown Elizabeth (which doesn't say too much). The club portion is in the back and the eating area is up front. Â
It's never crowded when I go in there, which is a plus, but the speed of service at times makes you think otherwise. The food is OK nothing out of this world. Â I think there pizza/flatbread things are probably the best.
I have a feeling this place functions better as a night club than it does a place to eat.
Gosh I am struggling. Â I don't know where to begin on what I can only suspect will be a general rant...
It's a nice place. Â It has a little tiki area outdoors for smokers, with a small outdoor bar and heated lamps in bad weather. Â They do their best to keep the crowd as "classy as possible" by strictly enforcing a dress code". Â But it is still on Broad St in E-town and it is ghetto. Â Born and raised here I guess I am one of the few people that wished we had some more neighborhood dives for people that don't want to get fancy just to have a drink. Â E-town is full of places like this. Â Get dressed up to get drunk...
In addition to the strict DC, there is a 20$ cover charge. Â Which automatically makes Dolce last on my list.
Make sure you go to Wednesday night Karaoke, it starts at 10:00pm. Â So much fun and not too crowded or stuffy so people will sing along with you and its not scary. Â I have only eaten there one time, and it was really good, I had an asian wrap. Â It is primarily a lounge and Italian restaurant, but they have quite an extensive menu, and the french fries are very crispy as well. Â The bartenders and waitstaff are super and it is a great spot with easy street parking.
Review Source:Ive been going to this place for a long time and it was always a pretty good time. usually i was drunk and out of my mind, so of course it was fun! BUT last night while having dinner there for the first time, i thought to myself-OMG I HAVE TO YELP THIS! lol ok not THAT serious but kinda. maybe i do take my food seriously lol...anywayyyy...
the roomie and i went to hot97's monthly comedy show and decided to have dinner first. we both ordered sushi-i had the spicy tuna and she the california roll. i put one in my mouth and almost spit it out! maybe im spoiled or something but my moms sushi is never this bad! correct me if im wrong but isnt the rice supposed to be soft? this rice was hard! like it was left out over night. i tried the rice from my roomies sushi and it wasnt AS hard but i still wouldnt eat it. had the waiter take it back and ordered a margherita pizza. hmm not so good :( it was just ok but hardly any taste. i ended up eating it because i was hungry.
Dolce is a nice place. theres 2 lounge areas-the front is usually latin music and the back is usually a mix of everything, depending on the night/dj. i just wouldnt eat there again. oh, the waiters were nice though :)
Time: Saturday
Location: Pretty much a desolate area with no where else to go if its bad or for to go eat. Of course thats the problem going to a club in NJ Â
Price: Cover- $20; Coat check $2 or $3
Food: None on this night but I did come before for a birthday during the day and I remember it being good.
Drinks: Bought a whiskey bottle, what a mistake lol. should have just bought individual drinks.
Music: Some Spanish music but mostly Hip Hop. DJ was good imo
Crowd: A little hood but overall it was a mixed crowd. There were a few really good looking girls but overall average
Interior Design: The design was alright but the vip section was nothing special
Pros: Good looking girls and bartenders/staff
Cons: Location & the dress code wasn't strict at all really
This is a fairly new restaurant and nightclub in Elizabeth. I can't comment on the food as I was only here for the lounge / club. The place is completely remodeled and no expense seems spared. I judge many new places by how much is spent on their bathrooms and the design of such and they did a great job there.
Cover charge on a Sat. night was $15 for men and $10 for women. Kind of steep for a NJ club but we decided to go in anyway and try it. There are 3 different areas - the upstairs was rented out for a private party so unfortunately, I didn't get to see it. I would be interested in checking out what they did with that space. The main area where you walk into is very nice. The bar is long and there were plenty of bartenders working.
The actual club is straight towards the back and it is a very large size for Elizabeth. Again, the bar her is enormous spanning the whole wall about a good 20 - 30 feet. The place is not as big as Ole if you are familiar with that place, but it definitely won't leave you feeling crowded. There is a nice smoking section outside where it looks like they are building something for the Summer. This would be a great place to have an outdoor area once it warms up.
The only negative I could say has nothing to do with the venue. The Russians that were on their X doing their strange kick-dancing made me feel like I was back in grade-school. But, it was entertaining for about 2 min. then it was time to walk around and get a refill.
Dolce is a great option to try out in Elizabeth. The crowd was mixed and the music was a good mixture of house and some free style.
