Dora Dora has reopened to my delight. I have a lot of memories at this place and it was good to see that they still have their same menu. Like old times, got the stir fried pork and kimchi with udon noodles, and their seafood egg soup. They're still one of the very few in the area that stock the beverage Chun Nyun Yak Sok. Â And like many of the best Korean places in the area, they don't have many reviews online.
Review Source:I came to Dora Dora late on a Sunday night (during Memorial Day weekend) with my friend who is Korean and is familiar with this type of establishment, for which she described as sort of like a Korean "pub." Her description was right on the mark; I definitely felt like I was in a pub-type environment...and it was pretty cool being the only non-Korean there (street cred, much?). Anyway, my friend did all of the ordering, and thankfully, since the entire menu was completely in Korean (my friend eventually asked the waiter to bring out an English menu, just in case I wanted to "verify" what she ordered for us :P). Our first dish was a baked chicken and mozzarella cheese (forgot the Korean name) dish that was "amazeballs!" Apparently, it's not even a "traditional" Korean dish, according to my friend. It came out in one of those hot cast iron plates. If you know me, you know that I love cheese...I love grilled chicken...I love cheese and grilled chicken, and this was a perfect combination of both. The chicken was well-seasoned with Korean spices and the mozzarella cheese had the right amount of gooey-ness. We also decided to share the steamed seafood bucket, which was literally enough to feed an army. You can never go wrong with seafood in my opinion. I loved that the dish came with a variety of "sea animals": clams, mussels, octopus, prawns, scrimp (yeah, I said "scrimp") and crab legs. All of this was steamed in water, which could later be used as a broth for an a la cart order of noodles (which we turned down, because we were way too stuffed). In addition to our meals, we obviously enjoyed two carafes of soju (Korean vodka): one was apple-flavored, the other pear-flavored. Our soju drinks were good, but definitely on the watery side, probably because they filled the carafes to the rim with ice (my one complaint). Nevertheless, we partook in the Korean tradition of "cheering" every 5 minutes with our shoju shots, and I definitely had a great buzz going by the end of our evening. Dora Dora is a great, late night spot to come to if you are looking for a no frills, laid back environment. I will say, however, that I could've done without the Korean ballads that served as [loud] background music throughout our evening...#IJS...
Review Source:EDIT: Â recently drove by this place and it's closed due to unsafe structure (?) or something like that. Â also, would like to note that the budae jjigae was just ok the last three time i had it. Â therefore, must subtract one star. Â hopefully if/when it opens up again, it will be back to the original deliciousness that i love...
LOVE the budae jjigae (spam, sausage, bacon, tofu, ramen, kimchi, rice cake casserole/soup) & cheese bool dak (spicy chicken with cheese) here! Â (although the last time we went, the budae jjigae was kind of bad..).
It's a bar... but sometimes, I'll just come here to eat. Â YUM.
Yup.. Korean dive bar which is normally called "Soju Jip" and "Pocha" depending on how it is setup. Â OK.. I went on Tuesday and Wednesday and going again tonight.. LOL! Â I am hooked!
$40 special = 2 bottles of SOJU + 1 soup + 1 dish
$50 special = 5 bottles of BEER + 1 chicken dish + 1 dish under $12.99 + 1 normal dish
They have all different types of Korea drinking food including Boodae Jigae (kimchee, pork, spam, noodles), Garan JJim (steamed egg with mozzarella cheese inside), Pork Bossam (steamed pork with lettuce wrap), Steamed Seafood bucket (clams, mussels, crab) and the list goes on.
Their taste is CLEAN! Not overly seasoned or incredibly spicy. It is perfect for my taste. Â They do use a LOT of garlic and onions on many of their dishes which is great. Â It's normally quieter than other drinking places and the wait staff is very friendly as well.
I actually saw a group of non-Koreans eating and drinking yesterday! Oh Yeah! Â Check it OUT!
If you are in NJ and wanna have good Korean food and drinks, you must come here!! Â
My Korean friend took me there so I have to thank him:) Â Food was great and service was nice:) Â Tukbokki was my favorit dish there. Â The price was not expensive for the quaity and the amount of food we had. Â The place was very laid back and it's a best place to hang out with friends. Â
I wish I can come here more often. Â I haven't been able to find any Korean restaurant in Manhattan as good as this one yet. Â Some bar food reminded me a Japanese Izakaya.
When I used to live in Fort Lee, I had dinner here often with my friends. It's a nice setting to just kick back with your good old buddies, have a couple of soju shots, eat some Korean tapa and bar-style food. If I can remember, their Gyeran-mari (Egg Omelette) was PURE AWESOMENESS as well as other food (which I cannot remember since it's been over 2 years now). Oh yeah, one time I downed 10 bottles of soju with my best friend Chris (who's now back in Korea) and they gave us Egg Tang (Stew) which was definitely awesome!! Now that I'm in Manhattan and since most of my NJ friends are back in Korea I don't frequent this place anymore than I used to. I kind of wish Pocha 32 can upgrade their food items a bit like Dora Dora. Simply Dora Dora's food is just a lot more tastier and genuine to Korean Pojangmacha-style food! Will return some day when I buy or rent a car~! :P
Review Source:I don't go as often as I used to, but always a good default to go to.
The name translated from Korea is Turn-Turn as it's placed on a u-turn corner in Fort Lee. Â A very Korean divebar w/ good food and your typical Korean drinks (beer, soju, etc) as well as your usual anju (barfood): boodaejigae (army stew), ddakdongjip (chicken gizzards), cheese booldak (spicy chicken w/ mozzarella), etc.
fyi, Dora seems to have lost alot of their usual to Jumong in the past couple years, but their service/quality is still good.
3.5-4.0 stars
Decent place to go to with friends if you're in the mood to do something low key and casual. It does have a more divey feel/look to it. The food is good here but it's mostly bar food. I usually order their boo dae jji gae, hwe mool pahjun, and cheese bool dak; all are good, especially their cheese bool dak.
They offer a variety of soju, makoli, hard liquor and beer. Something to please anyone in your group.
